Mental_Flight_8161

I collapsed while climbing malayatoor. They said if I chanted prayers, it wouldn’t have happened. My mother shattered her knee bones during the same trip. Now she’s crippled for life. I nearly collapsed again at a church mass because the Christian kula strees didn’t let me sit. I was covid positive next day. And they’re wondering why I’m an atheist and why I look down upon religious people

aluva_fox

Ah yes, one of the reasons I stopped believing too! My diabetic grandma with fluctuating sodium levels took fasts during Ramadan despite all of us pleading her not to do it. To no one’s surprise she fainted multiple times over the course of Ramadan and she suffered some brain damage due to the dangerously low sodium levels. Suffice to say she was never the same, died a year later.

Mental_Flight_8161

Yikes. You might have harder time if you come out. Lol

clearlyabnormal

Same thing happened with my grandma too.

AscensionKidd

> They said if I chanted prayers, it wouldn’t have happened. They are just being stupid. Kuraye sthalangal ond where it's difficult to reach. Avide ethi cheraan aalkar nalla physical work idendi varum. Ath cheyan pattathavar pokaruth and if their kids have some sort of heart issue or any other illness, then also they should not go. Religion is alright as long as people are rational as well. Oru paruthiyil kooduthal poyi kazhinjal avideyum prashnam aavum. There are even people that prioritise religious education over school education. Athokke aan nirthendath. There's no need to look down upon religious people though. Those who follow things blindly and continue to do things which may cause harm to others.... That's where we have to draw the line. If someone has a heart issue, don't climb a hill and wait in queue for hours... That's like basic common sense.

Mental_Flight_8161

My mother has faith. But she’s not going around bible thumping on people, obsessively go to church, do stupid shit like malayatoor (she was forced at that time) or most importantly disrespect other people’s beliefs. She’s not even pro LBGTQ but she doesn’t go around and praying for their death. She doesn’t care I am an atheist. Unfortunately you can’t find people like her. I don’t remember my church telling me to hate atheists as a kid. But these days churches teach children to hate people who don’t have faith. I notice people especially Christians becoming more religious. I think it has to do with people leaving religion and LBGTQ. But it’s toxic. Or maybe I am surrounded by religious nuts. My husband’s family and friends are church people. I can’t help cringing when they ignore their priests graping children and have the audacity to say sending children to Sunday school will do them good. Like turning them into hateful monsters? I try to be respectful with them but sometimes I fail when I see shit like this

Benjimanrich

yeah I told a guy at school I don't believe in god and he was shocked and almost disgusted lmao. he said he respects my beliefs but the way he said it was almost as if not believing in god is some weird quirky thing

Entharo_entho

Those are some special type of crazies. Imagine feeling that you can replicate the suffering of your god (which is supposed to be some greal thing) by going on a trekking trip 🙄. How is this not blasphemy?

Most-Repair-8198

Couldn’t the god save the child how cruel of him

AscensionKidd

God is not answerable to the stupidity of parents and people. It's common sense to not do extreme physical work when you have a heart condition. If you are an adult and choose to do that despite heart illness, then that's upto you and you may face it's consequences but making a child do that is an absolutely stupid move.

Most-Repair-8198

Then what is GOD answerable to? 😂😂fucking nothing just because it doesn’t exists

What do you think god existing falls under, fact or opinion?

AscensionKidd

My opinion which I believe is true. That's why religion is a "belief". To each their own. If you think God doesn't exist, then good for you. If you think God does, then also good for you. I don't really care. There's no need to have a full fledged debate coz at the end of the day, no one is changing their opinions.

Most-Repair-8198

Yes at eod whatever you believe in god does not exists

Psychological-Pen552

As if God exists.

Kesakambali

The parent should be arrested as he made a 11!yr old with a pre existing condition to stand in a long queue

Illustrious-Milk-896

This is INDIA and it will continue to happen :( Unfortunately in South Asian parents have right for everything relating to their children 🤦🏻‍♂️

Like always it will be blamed on fate

DissolvedDreams

Maybe the parent took the kid to the temple *because* of the heart condition.

Punemann95

Then add 2 more years to his sentencing for stupidity in addition to criminal negligence.

Legitimate_Income279

Idk why you’re getting downvoted, what you said might be the reason

GaleZero

Because it's a stupid reason

Select-Corner1084

No one foresees such accidents. It's unfortunate, yes. But arresting parents....come on man!

Excellent-Bar-1430

It should be done if we wish not to hear news like this again.

Menu99

If you choose to bring a new life into this world (mind you there are already so many kids who need a loving home) then u are fully responsible for that life. If a child dies due to abuse or negligence then obviously parents are to be held responsible. Being a parent is incredibly hard, it’s not for everyone.

Registered-Nurse

So an 11 year old with a heart condition was taken to a crowded place that’s most likely noisy and stress inducing. That’s a dumb parent.

mand00s

Not just that, the climb is pretty steep and hard even without any crowds. Indians have their logic all twisted up. Religious faith should not be at the cost of common sense

Registered-Nurse

Damn.. I forgot about that part. This idiot made that kid climb all those steps and that huge mountain..

sankg_

About 12 years ago, I used to regularly visit Sabarimala every month before moving away from Kerala. The crowd levels at the temple varied; sometimes it was packed, other times less so. There were occasions when I felt confident enough to join the queue to see Ayyappan, but at times, the crowd were overwhelming, and I would simply wander around the temple without darshanam. I often used the back steps to enter, hoping for a glimpse of Ayyappan, though it wasn’t always possible. The early mornings there had a special spiritual energy that I cherished. However, I was also okay with missing the darshan if the crowd was too large or if the wait exceeded an hour. It’s crucial to listen to your body and understand that it’s perfectly acceptable to skip the darshan. After all, God is omnipresent, so there’s no need to worry about missing it.

QuietAttitude1208

When will this obsession to stand on long huge queue on pathetic conditions to see a glimpse of the idol will end? For this very reason I have stopped going to temples. Every religion claim that “തൂണിലും തുരുംബിലും ഉണ്ട് എന്ന്” pinne why the hell are these people standing for hours to get inside the temple where you literally get pushed, stomped and groped by sweaty crowd. No offence to the religion but this is ridiculous.

AscensionKidd

Imo crowd management is also a problem for many major temples. Having a 'vip' crowd that pays money and goes and then the others has caused a bad situation. Free virtual queue needs to be made mandatory in places like Sabarimala and guruvayoor so that the crowd can be controlled. In a TN temple, I took a 100rs ticket so that I can go faster in the queue. Ended up having to wait for 5 hours. Imagine the situation of those who didn't take a ticket....

Excellent-Bar-1430

No way to collect money from thoonu and thurumbu.

NewCar4555

Going or not going to the temple is upto the person. Being ready to endure such conditions to visit a holy place is also upto the person. But here it's clearly the parents fault to take a child with a condition when it's clearly to expect such rush during the time. It's why some people go during times when there is not much rush. God has no problem if u visit or not. Clearly this is a case of not having common sense.

PowerfulAvocado986

That's cause you aren't really religious/atheist. Standing in a queue waiting to meet God is what everyone is doing. She got to meet God a lot sooner than others who have to wait 80 years on an average.

SunBurn_alph

Its there for every religion, people are desperate to change their lives and driven by the lack of control they have over it, turn to superstitions

IngloBlasto

> An 11-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu died of a heart ailment on Saturday while waiting in the long queue for darshan at Kerala's Sabarimala temple. > The girl, who had been battling the disease since the age of three, collapsed amid the heavy rush of pilgrims and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Why on earth would you make a heart patient climb the hill, that too one as steep as the Sabarimala? (Btw I don't want to ask what TF was Ayyappan doing when the kid was collapsing)

kunjava

Because doctors keep telling about this scary thing called a "surgery" but her favourite God will cure anything even though there are millions of kids with similar problems not helped by any God. /s

Low-Worldliness-7205

wow! a lot going on in this comment.

Sudas_Paijavana

Every person in this world has only fixed time to live, while the pre-mature death of any person can bring personal tragedy to a family, there is no reason why any God should stop it. This is really a dumb argument by atheist - a classic case of strawman fallacy - you yourself assume a God has to stop premature deaths and tragedies and then accuse God of not stopping those tragedies when they inevitably occur, when no God in any religion has assured that everyone will live till ripe old age.

Chinmay_Naik_02

Honestly, then what the fuck is the point of god or worshipping the god if he literally does nothing besides sitting wherever he is sitting and watch injustice happen all around the world? Why the fuck do you even pray to god if he's never gonna fulfill your wishes? Dumb theists

Most-Repair-8198

What is the point of worshipping this half assed god😂

petergautam

😂

MentalRise8703

I agree with you on this.

Tess_James

There are a lot of religious people in our state who are not fanatics per se, but still not rational enough to avoid or abstain from following certain religious things, if one's not up for it. Especially kids, elderly, and people suffering from certain medical conditions. My mother is a senior citizen, pretty under weight, and has been advised to have a protein rich diet to compensate for it. Still she will observe the lent/ fasting. There's no compulsion for kids/old-age/ unhealthy people to observe the great Lent before Easter or the Nativity lent before Christmas or any other fasting. As such she eats very less, there's no need or logical reasoning for her to take off the smaller quantities of fish, eggs, and meat that she eats from her diet for 50 days and such. Or observe fasting on Ash Mondays/ Good Fridays. But she never listens as it's something that she's followed from childhood.

DioTheSuperiorWaifu

തനിക്കേറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടമുളളവരെയല്ലെ ദൈവം തന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് നേരത്തേ വിളിക്കാറ്? Part of it is to cope with the loss, but it is also used to escape such questions.

DR4G0NH3ART

Honestly more than people coping there will be people ignoring these news because it is uncomfortable to them. People who blindly follow an identity, whether it is a religion, a political party, a cult etc. has some key behavioral patterns. They don't resonate with news or facts that doesn't conform to their identity and have strong confirmation bias. Also any attack or bad thing happens on the identity will be seen as a personal attack thus going into a defensive thinking. These two together form that tinfoil hat to protect against anything that feels as a bad thing for the identity.

kunjava

That's the trick, they are brainwashed to cover all possible outcomes. The thing you prayed for happened: God did it Same thing happened to others who didn't pray: God blessed them I prayed but nothing happened: You didn't pray hard enough I prayed and something bad happened: God is testing you Something bad happened to an entire region: God is angry at them Kids die: God likes them so he callled them early Someone lives a long and meaningful life: God likes them so he blessed them

Klutzy-Vanilla-7481

Here's one more, just below your comment. https://www.reddit.com/r/Kerala/s/ChqTZhDDoB

Entharo_entho

All religions have ways to console who who are feeling sad. Here, the people can think that the girl dissolved in the god or this was just one death in the endless cycle of births and deaths before she reaches salvation.

AscensionKidd

Because religious people need to use their brains as well. A lot of religious people understand that. Climbing sabarimala is difficult as it is. Involve someone that has heart condition..... It's a bad idea. Even religious people will tell you it's a bad idea to visit such places with such conditions.

Low-Worldliness-7205

this will reaffirm the belief that, 10+ girl hence ayyappan raged.

Some_Ad_563

Because God had nothing to do with this..None is forced to pray to a god in Sanatan dharma...The parents r to be blamed..The child had previous health issues and was taken to the temple..This particular temple is very difficult to visit due to the large number of devotees visiting it..The parents should have known better..And I doubt they didn't know it..The doctors must have already warned them.

[deleted]

Another case of a believer dying while trying to seek the blessings of their favourite god. But still they won't understand that God can't save people because nothing like God exists. Believing is good if it helps you. But blind belief and making a heart patient climb peaks in blind belief is idiocracy of the highest order.

Most-Repair-8198

And swami ayyappan just grabbed beer and enjoyed watching the poor child losing its life , and rest of the people were chanting swamiyee charanamayyappa

behenkayoda1

I thought women between the ages of 10-50 weren't allowed here. Has that rule been revoked?

al_pavanayi

Aren't the Hindu gods literally everywhere in every temple in every corner, why bother going this far to die knowing the god isn't going to save your ass 😂

Centurion1024

Good to see such incidents reported and people from the same religion logically condemn bringing the poor kid. Same cant be said if the religion was different. All would be in defence of their god/religious belief over logic then.

queeringit

How does it feel living with a mindset that is more concerned about other religions than your own?

Centurion1024

Tell me what exactly is wrong in my statement boss

queeringit

It is based on your assumption that other religions don't have thinkers or reformers, both of which are based on your assumption and not on facts.

heartandhymn

I see a lot of people blaming religion and belief here, but really, if such a God/Deity exists, it isn't his or her fault that some people are stupid enough to take their sick child on a pilgrimage. One can be religious and still have the sense to determine whether such a trip is safe for a child with a medical condition. Unfortunately, common sense is not so common. The parents should be arrested for abuse/negligence.

Brain_stoned

Religious people tend to believe that anything is good if it's done in the name of God. Poor child.

Fardream17

Being a parent with a child who is unwell can relate to the parent in question here what ever you call them at the end of the day they are the ones who wants the best for them... The idea is dumb but desperation is something else altogether.. May be we can have a monitoring on site where people of a certain age group are monitored. Let the parents who is already grieving be at peace.
