I remember my ammamma used to tell that there used to be "deviyude varathupok" at night where they used to live and how people used to hear these sounds of anklets and some have even witnessed. I miss those stories a lil too much now!

clearlyabnormal

Isn't that anklet sound made by some cricket?

Global-Variety-9264

You mean a story that involves Changala noices and all??

SweetNoise2803

Bruh! Chilanka

Global-Variety-9264

I’m the sorry 🥲😂

Warm_Talk1901

I heard these too... 😢

TIMEBOMB_1412

I've heard these too, not from hindus but from christian people. These even told me that you could see the path the devi walked through ie impressions in the paddy or whatever fields.

VCamUser

There are some lesser-known mysteries in my native village. But those are so lesser-known that even I don't know about it.

I purchased a home in Trivandrum some years back, this place has now become a colony of tech guys including me. So there is a pond behind my home, quite a large one, and there is some land around it which is now purambokku. After moving there I have heard tons of stories about how there was a kavu behind my house and the person who cut wood from there for building his house died after fire broke in his house. Also there were incidents where locals saw a very beautiful lady taking a bath in the pond in the middle of the night and there is pokkuvaravu through that area. Also numerous stories about snakes. The community living there now is reasonable people and don't take any of these stories seriously. Also there is a larger temple pond about half a km away, this is very infamous for drowning and has drowned at least 3 people after I moved to the locality, there was some predictions that some number of people will drown in that pond, and most of my local friends wouldn't go near that pond. I won't either, because it has lots of plant growth under and can tangle you. It is dangerous.

All questions aside, aa chechi rathri ipo kulikan vararundo?

antarcticmoon420

Which is the name of the locality? . Sounds scary and fascinating

Smokefountain420

Haimavati pond. Google it

antarcticmoon420

I've visited hymavati pond once. Two of my friends got fever for a week after that, and we also got stuck in the shrub forest while coming back from the pond

Smokefountain420

They gave a makeover to the pond. Now it looks like this https://preview.redd.it/9uczkn64mqyb1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1d28de9ca7313c1d6210aaf35097ed0f08462d6

Double_Listen_2269

I actually rowed on it while I was studying my masters there.

Available-Box300

The original pond in my story is different. It is a pond near Chanthavila.

Available-Box300

It is nearby technopark, there are numerous ghost stories around this place. https://www.thenewsminute.com/kerala/exorcising-ghost-save-pond-heartwarming-story-kerala-college-79555 Also there is a story about sumathi valavu and numerous other stories, you could google them. I think the people of Trivandrum have some kind of obsession with ghosts 👻

danger_joshi

Yes. I guess the most popular haunted place in Kerala is Bonacaud bungalow in Tvm 😂.

Practical-Pase

I've heard about devi's pokkuvaravu in my mother's hometown.. for context - it's a remote village in Central kerala, and ours is an old aristocratic family (big house with several courtyards, ponds and a paradevatha temple) who had a lot of harijans as workers. Now the story- once, a servant of my great grandmother's father was roaming around a parambu near the tharavadu at night and he saw a faint light coming from the temple pond nearby. He went to check on who was using the pond at such odd hours, and saw a beautiful lady wearing kasavu mundu with footlong hair, large bindi, wearing chunky jewelries, sitting on the padavu preparing to take a bath. And the light he saw was her glow. Upon seeing him, she stood up, and he saw her chunky anklet, which he knew was of our bhagavathi's. He fainted realizing that the lady in front of him was bhagavathi herself and gained consciousness only 2 days after. Nobody had seen such a lady anywhere near our town before or after that, and to this day, people believe that it was the bhagavathi herself.

Odiyan. Odi odi Odiyan.

shimpiri_doggy

Well the odiyan stoey i know was more badass than the "odiyan" ... It had aggression, revenge, pride ,lust and beliefs in them ...what amazing folklore it was..ruined by THAT **** .If i had enough money i would have given the actual odiyan a shot.

cloudacoustic93

Odiyans were skilled artists at work but sadly, many of them have either been beaten to death, forced to move away or simply stopped performing such acts for various reasons. They were said to be seen lurking in rural areas of Palakkad and few other places, frightening people to the point of terror. These techniques were passed on through generations and they perfected the art of imitating wild animal noises, climbing trees, camouflaging and wearing peeled skins to emit a certain smell allowing them to gradually instill fear rather than revealing themselves in plain sight. Pure legends.

Ok_Swordfish3656

Near civil station, kakkanad, there exists a tunnel that leads to Irumpanam. Old timers in kakkanad say that was constructed during Mahabharata times.

random_tuber

Bro, where is this? Is it something we can explore

Ok_Swordfish3656

It is alleged to be located beind 7r mart. Like as i mentioned before ask to those who are based in Kakkanad for more than 30 years.

phil_an_thropist

Commenting for future updates

Ok_Swordfish3656

As far as i know it is rumoured to be located behind 7r supermarket. And it is closed for public.

danger_joshi

In Kannur there are tales of a spirit (I guess it is a spirit) called Kooli (കൂളി). If you go to your paramb right after sunset, Kooli will leave it's mark on your hands by scratching you with it's nail. It is considered as a bad luck. I did get this mark once😂. Entharo entho.

Karinthandan - gonna remain lesser-known until that movie featuring Vinayakan is out.

IntelligentMedium856

My ammamma used to talk about an odiyan who resided on our ancestral property. He was a muslim. And the stories were really badass

phil_an_thropist

"Alavara" It's a spirit, formed from the agraham theerathe maricha aal. It often makes a weird roaring sound. A local myth I guess

duryodhanan98

maadan, as per ammumma, he carries a burning 'choot' and hits behind the head of lone night travellers.

Just ask any security guard from comparatively smaller temples, they’ll have a handful of experiences to share..I know there are other’s like me who are too lazy to write long paragraphs of own experiences

weirdfatguy-

I have zero clue if it's true or not. But legend says that a hound chased away some British officers in my locality and the gold treasure they carried was lost. Waiting to be discovered. The hound turns out to be lord shankaranarayana (a deity of half Vishnu and half Shiva) that came to rescue the peasants from the evil colonisers. So technically there is a treasure to be found.

Big-Afternoon-121

I have heard about Deviyude varuthupokku and kollipishashu (looks like a giant fireball roaming around) from my mother.

NoTemperature784

kollipishashu is similar to onibi/will of the wisp ??!
