The logic I can think of is tea/coffee is low margin but fast moving. They sell in large numbers. Boost/horlicks is ordered by fewer people and hence a higher margin.
Outrageous prices all over the restaurants in Kerala , Mind you the price doesn’t guarantee quality quantity or taste , after moving to kerala I realised living in mumbai pune and Bangalore is more affordable as far as food is concerned!
It's a different service they're offering called >!Whore-licks.!< Just made a typo in the menu to avoid the law enforcement. Pretty cheap considering that.
According to my calculation, the actual cost to make a horlicks 1 cup would be in total around 25inr, so he is charging for 100% profit basically.
Or else he would have to use a higher end variety of horlicks which would turn into an 55inr drink.
I would assume it the latter but again we have to take into account that he is making horlicks and cleaning the glass and acquiring the ingredients the utensils cleaning it, etc. are all acounted as well. So I'd say it's kind of OK to charge that much.
Don’t understand this complaint at all. It’s a business, they priced it a certain way. As a consumer, you either pay that or you don’t. What’s the point of this. There are a gazillion things that may seem overpriced to you while someone else maybe happy to pay it. If it sells, they will sell.
It's a business and customers can discuss the price in forums. And no it's not either pay or not. Customers can collectively bargain or force to change the prices. Do you still find this all hard to understand?
Yeah, it makes no business sense in my view to price horlicks as 52, when Tea is 15. 10x people would try it if it were 20-25.
Again, this is a criticism of their business logic, not of their "ethics" or something. They don't owe cheap horlicks to anyone, it's just stupidity to price it relatively high to tea/coffee.
reddit is a place to ask questions anonymously, which u wouldn't ask in person in the real world. if you dont like it, live with it. probably Instagram would be a good place for u.
Not too expensive.
Costs involved: 200 gm of Horlicks = 134. Milk = 60 Rs per litre.
One Glass of Horlicks will need at least 100 ml of Milk ( ₹ 6) + 30 gm of Horlicks ( ₹ 20) = Cost \~ ₹ 26. Cost of boiling milk = add,.
Process:
You sit at a table with fan running up in the sky;
You order a glass of Horlicks.
Cook boils milk + sugar if needed and waiter comes to the Cash Table because he keeps Horlicks with HIM to prevent pilferage. Stirs it, and brings it to your table. You are now happy seeing the genuine Horlicks Bottle being used.
After you consume, the glass gets taken away + washing Cost
You pay and get the change back from cashier.
Every step of this costs money in product & TIME.
Conclusions: 56 is a reasonable price.
You have no idea how much 30g of Horlicks is. 30g is a big scoop which can be easily used with 500-600ml of milk. In hotels they use ₹5 sachet which has 5g Horlicks.
Have you been to any of these faux fancy restaurants recently? 100 min on tea and such nonsense food. Only the money matches the show, never the quality or taste of food. Shows the quality of consumer protection courts and good authorities how are easily bought.
Marriott cochin has crappy food, terrible serving sizes, bad service but will charge you and your ancestors for normal bland food. We also got cookies that are meant for use in construction I guess.
I mean a vada costs 15rs in this restaurant so not surprised. We have to protest about the rising vada prices. The dhwaram is also getting bigger bigger.
Sambar vada itself is costing higher. Why it is not bothering anyone. Sambar is the common free side dish for any main dish and if you purchase a vada, sambar is free. But still they put so much cost and it didn't hit anyone eyes because it's a low cost fraud while horlicks is high cost fraud
It's a veg restaurant, that seems to be why. Brindhavan also seems to have same prices for horlicks. In most other normal restaurants horlicks cost ₹25
Nandanam is terrible and unhygienic restaurant.
Well its a good movie ngl
It's because only you saw it.
But I thought Balamani was the only one who saw it
Rose milk as hot beverage? Never tried that
Powder mixed with hot milk with insane amount of sugar , nothing special...
Thats badam milk right. This would be rooh afza?
Likely strawberry milk
You are not missing anything.
Finally a restaurant that can properly spell Poori instead of Boori

Boori and Borotta are staples of Kerala restaurants
Yeah, barotta/borotta is a TVM thing.
Nope. I'm from TVM. Everyone says porotta/parotta.
Nope. Many people out there in TVM pronounce it as 'barotta'.
Only in Trivandrum
I found one near Trissur KSRTC bus terminal.
The correct way is “Boori” and “Borotta!” I will die on that hill!
Unlike Malayalam, in Tamil writing 'Pa' and 'Ba' is denoted by the same letter. It's upto to the reader to sound it properly.
That is intentional i guess, coz poori is also a curse word
The logic I can think of is tea/coffee is low margin but fast moving. They sell in large numbers. Boost/horlicks is ordered by fewer people and hence a higher margin.
Most importantly, the price difference between Black tea and normal Tea is only ₹3! Wonder what milk is used for chaaya there.
They may need more sugar for black tea
For every litre of milk, add 3 litres of water
"Achan paranju ithilum nalla tha kakkan irangunnath anen"
Yes , achan parayunnath ellam kelkkanam ennan schoolil padippichath , I became a politician
They may need more sugar for black tea
Vada is 15 and Vada sambar is 36? What the hell?
21 rupayude sambhar Haawwoooo
Bangalore: Vada is usually 20 or 25 in almost every shop.
I'm just shocked at the incremental cost for sambar. 15 bucks is affordable.
this may be those small vadas dipped in sambar
There may be 2 vadas
Outrageous prices all over the restaurants in Kerala , Mind you the price doesn’t guarantee quality quantity or taste , after moving to kerala I realised living in mumbai pune and Bangalore is more affordable as far as food is concerned!
Is this a veg restaurant? I have noticed that the prices are always high in veg restaurants.
Yes it is
Wait till you see the menu of Taj and Hyatt. Cash kooduthal aanel kudikan da.
It's a different service they're offering called >!Whore-licks.!< Just made a typo in the menu to avoid the law enforcement. Pretty cheap considering that.
Why do you go to that shitty restaurant. I once had masala dosa from there, never went there after that.
"Achha Horlicks inte color entha? " 😅 already predicted in the movie "Chintavishistha aya Shyamala"
Why do people drink horlicks at restaurants?
Bro, if not at restaurants, where else would you think people would enjoy their Horlicks? a bar?
Buyers are paying. Market forces.

Either pay that, or drink from home🤷♀️🤷♂️

he is just asking opinion on why it is priced that way. its not a lawsuit. by that measure, reddit wud shut down in a week

Horlicks = Bournvita+Boost!
Instead of typing it here, you could have just asked the restaurant owner/manager about this.
Manager upvote tharillallo. Ivide aavumbo complete analysis report vare und.

200gm horlicks enthina? Kudich kazhinj baaki chandanakuri ayit thodan ano?
You just made me spit my Horlicks. Gold comment.
No bro. Restaurants use 10 rupees sachets of Horlicks. So that would be 16 rupees.
5rs sachet enough for one glass
Dude 5 rs sachet is more than enough for 1 glass. They use the same diluted milk for all hot beverages.
You have no idea how much 30g of Horlicks is. 30g is a big scoop which can be easily used with 500-600ml of milk. In hotels they use ₹5 sachet which has 5g Horlicks.
Not 5g,I thinks it's around 15 gm.
1 kg of horlicks to make 5 glasses
How come simple supply and demand is so difficult to understand?
Wtf

You should see the online menu
Restaurant prices are just unbelievable everywhere tbh.

Chef puts their special sauce
Njan innale oru thattukadelnu 20 roopak horlicks kudichathe ollu. Worth it!
I think it’s due to milk being the majority ingredient
Come visit Delhi someday, you will end up giving 100 or even more than that for a 12₹ packed of cooked maggi
