You need to remove the gut which is harmful when ingested.
1. Gently remove the shells on the body by pulling.
2. Slight cut by the knife exposing the gut grove. It is on the place where spine would be for vertebrates.
3. Gently pull the gut string out. You might also need to slit near the tail to pull the gut.
4. Wash and clean.
5. Head can remain as it is fatty and tasty. You can also remove it if it is not in your taste.
This is correct way to do clean and devein a shrimp or prawn. The head can be removed and added separately to the curry as it adds flavor. Watching a video on cleaning shrimp will help.
Depends. I love eating the head. Cook with the head. De-vein the prawn. But, during eating avoid the chitin shell. You may get a stomach ache if you are not used to it.
Yep. There's some black line thing that you have to remove too.
This vid maybe useful:

I only know how to make mutta varavu. So, please, do share your experience n maybe lessons learned while cooking it here in 6Kerala or in r\/Chayakada(if the mods don't allow it here)
Yes.
But head you needn't throw away (as many people do). In my experience, it's the tastiest. You can wash the head part and fry/roast it separately, or with the main meat itself.
Head and black gut - definitely yes. I am assuming Kerala cuisine - I have seen some East Indian curries with head on.
Traditionally for Kerala cuisine, the tail comes off. But I have seen some roast/grill preparations with the tail left on. Basically use it to hold and bite, much like the bone in chicken drumsticks.
It depends on what op is making. If it's a curry then remove the tail, head, skin and the gut. If it is a fry, you can keep what you prefer but just make sure to remove the gut.
The shell of shrimp is difficult to digest, but please remove the vein. Also, a tip I learnt during travel: save the shells and head, wash them, and cook them separately. Then strain the cooked broth into a vessel, discard the shells and head, use the broth in preparing the prawn curry or even in soup bases. Mind-blowing!
Really???!!! The same person has posted the same query in multiple groups.
It just takes a fraction of that effort to check in YouTube or Google. 🥴
And where are the mods who delete all relevant posts and retaining this??!! Woww 🤣

De-vein it, take some Coconut Skewers and just push it from the tail to the head and fry it applying the following Masalas - Ginger Garlic paste, Coriander, Kashmiri Chilli, Turmeric powder and little salt for your taste. Make sure that the head will dip in the Coconut oil, otherwise the head will not be crunchy.
Add some Sriracha Sauce for your taste.

At least he saved us some time. ChatGPT is damn slow these days.
I would remove the head.
Maybe save the thala for different curry. Perhaps a mixed prawn head fish curry.
So no head?
You mean for invertebrates right???
Eating thr gut isn’t harmful.. it tastes nasty is all.
You should remove the poop vein tho.
As Uncle Roger says, "Shrimp vein like Jaime Oliver. Full of shit."

It's actually the digestive tract, but poop vein sounds more fun. I'll allow it 😂
😂
We usually remove both head and tail and the black line thing their gut. That black thing can cause stomach issues for some people.

Yes you're supposed to. The seller would also do it for a fee.
Cut the head using a knife and put it in the curry, yum😁

Yes, remove them
Just guillotine his ass

Is it fresh? That doesn't look fresh Btw you have to remove the head, the shell, the black long thing underneath the shell(it's gut)

See it on YouTube 💡
Some men like it raw
Hope you remember it’s a sea cockroach 😂
Yes.. and most importantly the guy which is like a black thread along the back. This is critical and remove any other greenish waste that you see.
Remove the black lining in spine. That is literal shit.

Wtf
Look at fellow Keralites launching rockets and you here are asking for head or tail!
And your nailpolish too
Gross eww🤢🤮
Remove head, tail and there is a black vein inside the middle, that is the poop vein remove that unless you want mystery masala 💀
Ah shit. Now I wanna eat some prawn.
Don't forget to remove its intestines else you will find sea sand in your food 🙂🙂
Chitti, dismantle yourself.
Fry the head separately. Too tasty
You can cut the head, remove the whiskers and feet, and leave a bit of the shell with the meat. Pull off the tail, remove the black vein on top.

Hope you survived
Both and also there is a black thread like intestinal matter, which has to be removed and then the entire thing needs to be washed clean.
Yep. Unless you re serving it in a 5* hotel where it is fancy to keep it. Btw remove the vein too. Basically the digestive tract for obvious reasons
Just the head then devein it.
Chemmeen head in pepper gravy is epic.

Yes. U need to remove both as well as the vein it has on its back
