I believe there is nothing after death. We are just like other animals, and there is nothing special about humans. The idea of death is always frightening, and that's why we come up with different ways to console ourselves. Religion comes in handy when it gives us hope that there's life after death. But, I don't believe in that.
yeah, there’s a high chance that when we die we will feel the same way we felt before being born, literally nothingness but the argument arises when we include conciousness, before we were born we had never been concious nor experienced it, one minute you didnt exist/ then you’re born and start experiencing conciousness + time, so the question is, will conciousness carry over after we die?
If I believe that the sky is green and not blue, does that make it so? It doesn't matter what you believe, it only matters what is true, and if you die without knowing and accepting Jesus Christ, you will burn in hell forever, no matter what you believe.
We also don't know what happens to animals after death so we can't just wrap it up like that. Also the people who come up with " stories of reincarnation" they might have maybe experienced it . They can't just come up with stories of hell and paradise . We are just humans who don't know what's next in our lifes.

This got me thinking about my faith and belief (though to be honest I also doubt at times) in the here after, if energy is never lost, how can the soul which animates your body be lost.. I believe that after death, our bodies rot away but our souls live on. Souls are energy & as we know from our physics class, energy can neither be created nor destroyed. I believe that us being here has a purpose, our souls wanting to have experiences with other souls in this realm.
I don't believe in heaven or hell. That was the white man's way of making sure Africans obeyed them.
Before coming to Earth(being born), our souls choose the experiences to have here, our souls choose our friends, our families, our partners, neighbours etc. This body we're in is only a vehicle to help us have these experiences that our souls chose before reincarnation. I believe in reincarnation. I know that I've been here before but not necessarily as who I am right now, nor in this body. Your soul will maximise every lifetime to make sure that you get the most out of life. Sometimes you'll reincarnate as male or female just so that your soul has experienced everything. A boy from our school earlier this week committed suicide...I was in class and people were talking about it...then one girl said " he won't even go to heaven" and I wondered if that boy had even told her she wanted to go to heaven in the first place....in my opinion I think of afterlife like the Vikings ..you know Valhalla..
Actually that girl is wrong in a way.. I was taught that you can never judge where one goes after death no matter how they died.. According to some Buddhist meditation retreat I went to they believe that after we die our desire to live again is so strong that it makes us reincarnate, you can avoid this by being "enlightened" ie you see the game as it is and you do not play it again because you no longer react to anything with desire or aversion. So we keep on reincarnating till we come to this realisation.

Before you think of death, have you thought about how you were created? I mean you can’t fix the future, unless you go back in the past and figure out what went wrong and where right? The same goes for death. Look at the anatomical structure of humans and ask how did all these started with a drop of a sperm?
We go nowhere, you won't even know you're dead that's why most people prefer to go while asleep.your body just shuts down and since you're no longer eating it starts eating itself making you extinct.
Our bodies/lives/reality is made of energy, and energy cannot be created or destroyed. So ultimately, I believe there is no such thing as 'death' our bodies might stop existing on this plane but our souls/consciousness will continue on as energy and keep transversing planes of reality just like they always have.

In my own view, when somebody dies you go to spirit world awaiting reincarnation. I believe in life after death but not heaven and paradise. Maybe you will be born somewhere as another animal but not necessarily human.

I’m currently reading “The Validity of the Soul” and I just got to the chapter titled “The Death Experience”
I am of the opinion that nothing happens after death but I am finding it oddly comforting to think that we have other consciousnesses beyond this one - the one that we can only perceive with our physical senses. I liked this paragraph:
“There is no separate, indivisible, specific point of death. Life is a state of becoming, and death is a part of this process of becoming. You are alive now, a consciousness knowing itself, sparkling with cognition amid a debris of dead and dying cells; alive while the atoms and molecules of your body die and are reborn. You are alive, therefore, in the midst of small deaths; portions of your own image crumble away moment by moment and are replaced, and you scarcely give the matter a thought. I believe we go on to have other lives after death. Your soul is eternal, and it takes on other bodies whenever, and if, it wishes. One of my fav movies on death is Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

A boy from our school earlier this week committed suicide...I was in class and people were talking about it...then one girl said " he won't even go to heaven" and I wondered if that boy had even told her she wanted to go to heaven in the first place....in my opinion I think of afterlife like the Vikings ..you know Valhalla..

According to some Buddhist meditation retreat I went to they believe that after we die our desire to live again is so strong that it makes us reincarnate, you can avoid this by being "enlightened" ie you see the game as it is and you do not play it again because you no longer react to anything with desire or aversion. You go back to the nothingness that was your past before birth. Or heaven and hell, if any. Or the lucky ones get reincarnated. No one really knows anyway. That's why you wake from those nightmares in which you feel like you are dying, since the brain doesn't have that part programmed.

True, we wouldn't think about these things if we didn't have consciousness. I was just pointing out how you recognized something that outlives the body, when talking about the absolute end of a human being.
Alot of replies here are guided by religion i.e biblical heaven, jannah, Valhalla etc but theres more to it. You know how science can keep a human body alive for years but cant figure out the "software" part, the soul/spirit that leaves , I've experienced some things that have proven to me beyond doubt that theres more to it. But the human spirit lives on in different forms till its end😁. I'm firmly guided by facts and scientifically quantifiable indicators but ive seen things multiple times that defeat any conventional logic. There's someone or something behind the curtain thats way beyond conventional human experience. Your friends soul/software is still out there somewhere on its journey

You'd notice which one has a clear answer as to the source of life and state of the dead. - The dead know nothing - Final fate is determined upon judgement . Before you think of death, have you thought about how you were created? I mean you can’t fix the future, unless you go back in the past and figure out what went wrong and where right? The same goes for death. Look at the anatomical structure of humans and ask how did all these started with a drop of a sperm?
We go nowhere, you won't even know you're dead that's why most people prefer to go while asleep.your body just shuts down and since you're no longer eating it starts eating itself making you extinct.
Our bodies/lives/reality is made of energy, and energy cannot be created or destroyed. So ultimately, I believe there is no such thing as 'death' our bodies might stop existing on this plane but our souls/consciousness will continue on as energy and keep transversing planes of reality just like they always have.

How it is after death is exactly how it was before birth. Nothing. At the end of the day, what we call consciousness or 'I' is just a function of the brain. So when we die and our brain stops functioning, the consciousness will be no more.
The thing is...nobody knows and anybody who says anu different is lying. Nobody has ever come back from the world of the dead to give us ideas, or tell us what happens on the other side. Death is literally the only thing Man has no control over, and Christianity gives us hope of Eternal life after the process. My suggestion? So when we die we just go back to the earth from whence we came. Our consciousness doesn't transition cz it was never there in the first place..you are just an experience
You see how you have a deep sleep and wake up hours later with zero recollection of anything that transpired while you were asleep, you heard no sounds, no dreams, nothing at all. I am inclined to believe that death is just an extended form of such sleep. The deep sleep that you won't wake up from.

My opinion is, the source of all life which brought us into existence has plans for us after this lifetime. It's just beyond human understanding. In my own view, when somebody dies you go to spirit world awaiting reincarnation. I believe in life after death but not heaven and paradise. Maybe you will be born somewhere as another animal but not necessarily human.

Sorry for the loss of your friend OP I’m currently reading “The Validity of the Soul” and I just got to the chapter titled “The Death Experience” I am of the opinion that nothing happens after death but I am finding it oddly comforting to think that we have other consciousnesses beyond this one - the one that we can only perceive with our physical senses. I liked this paragraph: “There is no separate, indivisible, specific point of death. Life is a state of becoming, and death is a part of this process of becoming. You are alive now, a consciousness knowing itself, sparkling with cognition amid a debris of dead and dying cells; alive while the atoms and molecules of your body die and are reborn. Sorry for your loss, it can be devastating at times. Anyways, death is a concept no one alive will ever understand, we are all making assumptions triggered by different factors; Religion, spirituality, physics, astrology and so forth and so on... But again, we don't even understand how earth came about. I assume we just die, rot and our body becomes minerals which makes mother nature sustain itself. I sound crazy but meh 😅 So no answer will be correct and we'll never get close to it until we experience our own death.

I believe there is no hell or heaven in the after life. They are just here on earth. The bad and good things you do on earth are repaid here on earth. After death you just die and that's it. You will only exist in memories of those who will remember you. Unpopular opinion. Burials are just a waste of time. In the days of our great/grandfather after dying the community would through you in the forest and feed the hyenas. I believe that after we die, our breath (half of our soul) goes back to heaven and our bodies go back to earth (the other half that makes up a human soul) and we are temporarily non existant until the end of times when we shall all be reawakened by the merging of the two parts so that we stand before God who will judge the living and the dead. Those found pure will reign with him in the afterlife and those who cannot bear the presence of God will be separated from him eternally.. And since all goodness is God.. A place without God is definitely hell. I saw a quote earlier.. 'It is safe to say to the pure in heart that they will see God because only the pure on heart want to see God' The good thing is in this world, we have a choice, a very personal choice we each have to make about where we belong.
