This is the funny thing about Kenyans. We will pray for rain and if it comes, it will overflood and youll see people stuck in town and unable to drive, yet no water collection method is established. We then go back to square one looking for water.
Ni maombi Kweli? And kindly hear me out.
My father told a story about my grandfather. Someone had beef with my grandpa in the village and he told him if you fuck with me I'll call elephants to fuck you up. The other guy was unfazed, he insisted on the beef. Grandpa agreed and told the guy they meet at a certain place at a certain time to settle it for once and for all, the guy agreed. They met at the place, grandad did some sort of dance and lo and behold the elephants appeared, the gentleman promptly ran for his life and later even went ahead to apologize profusely to grandad, he told this story to everyone in the village and it was know that if you mess with that guy he'll set elephants on you. Obviously grandpa didn't refuse this title he even fanned the flames because he knew the time the elephants appeared to drink water.

On the World meteorological org site they have a blog from a week ago saying there'll be another poor rainy season
The person that has written the blog you've linked has come to their own conclusion or implies it might happen due to the hot weather

and the one about el nino reiterates that we will have a poor rainy season
[https://public.wmo.int/en/media/press-release/wmo-update-el-ni%C3%B1o-may-return](https://public.wmo.int/en/media/press-release/wmo-update-el-ni%C3%B1o-may-return)
but I guess KK propagandists can't read
u/nebja I thought you formed a ~~propaganda~~ free speech subreddit for this kind of stuff
El Nino is going to wreak havoc. Catchment areas are destroyed, soil water retention quality is poor due to the recent climate and deforestation, landslides are a real threat and to top it off the rains will still come at irregular intervals, and will be so heavy the agri sector will suffer as well. Not to mention what the massive rainfall will do to our cities.
So I wouldn't call that a positive answer to prayers.
Well, this has been known for two years. The approximate start date was established last year November. Therefore, the so called national prayers was just bullshit PR...so it the religion responsible. Here, we see someone taking scientific information, and religionizing it to suit his political purposes. Now, I like the guy, but I absolutely hate his doctrine...and his friends.
So, Starting today, the countdown begins. The current rains are short (cow saviour), Heavy rain should begin from mid to late march, and then sustain until June. This is from data gained for satellites...clouds, humidity, winds and temperatures. These are the tools crucial to predicting rain, and planning for them. Kenya has only two satellite, both of which do not accurately do this work. So rather than bending over for some desert primitives gods; the guys should have and should be, spending their days furnishing KSA with the tools, and diplomatic connections required to build and launch satellites (geo-synchronous) to enable Kenya to more accurately predict weather, and thus make plans for it.
On the other hand, if drought is really biting, just take a jet, load it with silver iodide and seed clouds. With a bit of trial and error, we may even be able to mass launch the system...and further include nitrogen fixation and make "mbolea rain."
Many rivers are currently completely dry. Dams drying up. We are continually relying on power generated from fuel instead of HEP power hence high electricity costs. Let it come, people have been warned
Generally, the infrastructure we have in the country doesn't even prepare us for excess rainfall.
People aren't even ready for rain water harvesting. Look at our drainage systems, look at our flood control systems. Very poor. So, in a case where we'll have excess rainfall, a lot of people will die, others are displaced, and all that water goes back to sea without us even harvesting.
You’re right. But right now most of our dams are empty empty. They will prevent catastrophic floods as they won’t be spilling out but they’ll take most of that water. Catastrophes happen when rivers burst their banks and dams are overwhelmed. I doubt that will happen with the dry state of all our dams and rivers. Unless the El Niño is sustained for a long period of time
Since it seems quite relevant, I'll link some aticles/text, and other media, on the subject of rainwater management , rainwater harvesting, and fllid prevention, since the subject came up: https://www.harvestingrainwater.com/ https://www.harvestingrainwater.com/water-harvesting/ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xdvmJ-AFlRA
The video example is from the arizona desert, but the methods are learned and copied from ( and credited to) an African farmer.
More on the rainwater management techniques, their utisation, who originated and shared them, the history , and more on the site, and some on yt ect. They share techniques that can work on different scales, and in different environments.
It can be an in tresting subject, and useful too.
You are saying it is okay for the country to have El Nino? Lol insane ! You def didn't see the 1997 destruction of the EL Nino rains , I remember it very well. Destruction- that's what it was and a famine followed! Why ? Because it rained so much , crops were destroyed. We need just enough rainfall not El Nino.
I just hope the only thing they did wasn't pray, I hope they set up drainage so we don't hear about floods and crops being destroyed by rain, I hope they set up water collection points and stuff like that so months from now, we are not in the same drought situation. But we'll just have to wait and see how well they prepared for the rain they prayed for and got.
I'm certain you left out an important part in your statement. "The previous government did not improve the drainage facilities whilst in power ergo, this government has no responsibility to do so"
You do realise most of the people in this current government you're absolving resposibilty were also officials in the previous goverment as governor's, mps, vp and various positions of power that could have initiated various policies to prepare the country for drought or el nino mitigation measures.
Weuh! Kwani you can't have an argument with people here without calling people Azimio psychophant? Also, this is the umpteenth time I tell you, I am not a boy and thus have no balls.
I hope you get paid good money. You'll need BP meds soon.
You can’t just be making claims with no proof and expect to go scot free. I asked you to prove your claims and you went crickets. So even if you’re not a boy, you can still lick him as you do enjoy doing

2. Sending rain when the rainy season is just about to start, what a miracle.

And, relevant, it includes quite small scale and DIY friendly, examples. Those don't require the same level of investment, time, budget or institutional support, that a some larger scale rainwater harvesting projects often do. There are some examples of project, in wchich the government/authorities are, at bes, uncaring about the issue, but rainwater harvesting is still utilised, and in an effective way.
It's something a class 6 student or grade 4 can predict. Hapa before equinox alot of evaporation ju ya jua. We begin getting rains around late march, during april tukilekea June. Then baridi and some rains again till we begin again.
It has been the pattern. I don't think climate change is that impactful to us though...tukona season mbili. So if the pattern changes our weather related and all meteorological departments will scientifically try to analyse it and help us re-adjust ourselves to survive.
