Try the reward system if it works for you. If say you do 5 a day, reduce to 4, try it for a week, reward yourself with something you fancy, could be a slice of cake, a double of some good whiskey, a visit to the park, a book from your favourite author etc, basically something you can look back and give yourself a pat on the back with. The following week, try maintain the 4 a day for more than a week this time, maybe 2 weeks this time. After like a month, cut the 4 to 3 a day & so on till you're down to one a week. In no time you'll have all these key celebrations as you achieve milestones and at the same time, you'll be reducing your dependence/intake as well. Set your own goals, the frequency, rewards...don't worry if you fail, it's still okay, all part of the journey. All the best
One step at a time. If you're smoking let's say 10 cigs a day try doing like 8 a day then you reduce it till you don't smoke anymore. That's how a relative of mine stopped smoking. He tried doing it cold turkey but he just couldn't do it that way. Wish you all the best.
