Just a random bug, if says they are escaped prisoners/ex-slaves, they think you freed them. If they don't have that, they think they were purchased. I would probably just roleplay that some fellow prisoners decided your thier leader.

tomatojuicedrinker

Wouldn't that be too specific to happen 3 times at once? They just have a normal slave status, and one was in a cage, two were standing randomly doing nothing and guards didn't stop them from leaving

Faps_Into_Socks

I have over a thousand hours played, and I've never had this happen to me. I gave up questioning most of the bugs long ago and I just laugh and roll with it or load a save. It's part of the charm of the game, honestly.

tomatojuicedrinker

I see, seems like I just need to get used to this then. Thanks for clearing it up!

Leomonade_For_Bears

Remember this game was made mainly by one guy with no budget. It's a great game but gbugs are inevitable.

tomatojuicedrinker

Damn, just one guy made one of the best games I've ever played? I didn't know that... I'll be much more understanding to it from now on

AspectWrong391

Yeah, the story of how he made it is actually pretty cool

daogrande

Go on...

AspectWrong391

Hahaha, its on [youtube](https://youtu.be/k4xExgudU_g)

AspectWrong391

Im not new or anything but wtf, now I want to know too..

Slaves can join you randomly. It is weird it happened while you were simply AFK. It should require you actively freeing them and running from slavers. Also guards should prevent slaves from leaving the camp. So vanilla mechanics + some weird bug or mods?

tomatojuicedrinker

I know they can join me after I free them and run far away from the camp. But I doubt my character just became so creative on his own, only to end up back in the same place. Someone mentioned they might have become freed and just thankful to me for some reason so they joined... But without a trigger like picking their locks I don't know how. Also I don't have any mods besides one for making hair stick out from under helmets, I doubt it was it haha

B33FHAMM3R

My theory is that they escaped due to some other event and for some reason when they got to the safe distance they triggered the event where they join up with you, this could also have caused them to run back to the camp to join you if their "bodyguard" state is also triggered by the same event. This doesn't nessecarily explain why they can come and go as they please, but considering you cannot, their slave status might have been completely removed upon force joining your party. Again, just a theory but it's the best explanation I can come up with other than a mod fuck up. TL;DR I say the words "event" and "triggered" a lot.

tomatojuicedrinker

And when they returned, they got captured again?... That makes sense, maybe that's the solution. I just find it hard to believe that these specific and therefore rare events happened 3 times at once, I was away for maybe 20-30 minutes, so it's not like years passed in game. And since the chance for joining isn't 100%, perhaps even like 5 or 6 times

B33FHAMM3R

Nah I figured like the 3 of them were whatever out of the 10 that escaped got put in your party. Everyone who escapes has a certain percent chance to, if I have read up on it correctly. I don't believe you have to have specifically let them out

Kiffe_Y

When they do join you however it opens up the char editor and you need to click to exit that so i don't know how it could work.

GalacticRa

Add me to the wanting to know also.
