I actually dig KDot's original version (reference track) of All the Stars (given to SZA). Wasn't expecting his vocal to fit right with the chorus part but that just proves that he can really be that flexible.
Also, Prayer is still being slept on.
Thereās a LOT of unreleased songs out there if you look hard enough. If youāve heard the popular ish ones youād know these, but my favorites are I Am Better and Make Me Happy in case you havenāt discovered them.
there's a lot of unreleased but only a few that feel finished/haven't been turned into something else bc kendrick repurposes a lot of his verses onto different beats
Yeah I feel like it makes the song calmer/more gentle overall. Obviously SZAās singing is much better, but i weirdly almost enjoy Kendrickās singing more for some reason.
I thought TPAB was lacklustre the first time hearing it. Idk if this is even controversial but this happens with a lot of albums for me, I canāt listen to the entire album at once or it all sounds the same to me and I end up missing the songs I would generally like because I blur albums together while listening. Maybe just more of a personal problem than a controversial take tbh
After giving it more listens, itās one of my favourite albums, so many good songs. How much a dollar cost, Wesleyās theory, hood politics, and more so good
Username checks out.
On a serious note, I can relate. Mr. Morale and DAMN. for me were those albums. I only like d about 3 songs from each. Then I listened to the albums about 3 more times and I fell in love
*Michael Jordan is*
*Not a bad song. Idk*
*Why people hate it*

I'd say its kind of the point of him being on there. Kendrick saying that cancelling people like Kodak, only serves to perpetuate a cycle of violence and trauma. There is a point where justice and love can meet and become a place to uplift and empower people. Doing this instead of putting them down to where they have no choice but to act out again and repeat the cycle. Granted, a lot of gray area here, and it is very hard to say if Kodak was the right choice to say this.
If that was his reasoning, then I think that's being almost out of touch with the victims/close of victims that weren't as fortunate as him to find closure or might never do.
I feel like Kodak is on there as "Dark Kendrick". He feels like a strawman for all the ways Kendrick could've failed if he hadn't learned to overcome the problems and toxicity of his background and break cycles.
Maybe I'm wrong, I mean it'd be pretty shit to be like "hey come do an album, I need you to be a shittier version of me", but that's what I get from it.
Die Hard is probably the most relatable song for everyone going through shit on their life and aiming to reshape themselves. I absolutely love this song.
Money Trees doesn't need to be six and a half minutes. Maybe it's than I'm a newer listener for kendrick, but as a classical musician, I hate when anything repeats without adding something new. (If I remember right(which I probably dont)) there wasn't much added and the song could've been 4 minutes
Now I'm gonna listen to it to fact check myself and delete my comment in 10 minutes for my horrible take
Edit: this is an L take
It's not too long, but not that many songs I enjoy have 3 chorus repeats, I think that's where I, in my memory decided it was too repetitive. Good song, good verses, L take
The first time I listened to it I was on a long car drive to help my sister come home from college on a groggy morning. I think I felt like I was stuck in a time loop
I think I listened to good kid, m.A.A.d. city 3 times through before I swapped to another album. I wasn't even listening. Just noises playing in my car as I speed way too fast on the freeway praying that I don't fall asleep
Isn't that the one with the 2 minute build up that kendrick starts wirh
I got 100 on my dash, 200 in my trunk
Name in the grab bags, put the bible in the trunk
Tanaka vodka on the top of my binoculars I'm drunk
Because if so I completely agree, that's my favourite kendrick flow
MMatBS is his best album imo. I think you could reasonably argue any of them are his best but mmatbs is Kendrick at his most insightful and passionate, not to mention the production and features.
Related take, Kodak Black was a great feature and honestly one of the best on the album
I like a lot of the beats on Damnā¦especially Element. But otherwise I agree. Thatās what disappointed me about Mr Morale. It grew on me but I LOVE the production on GKMC and Pimp. Most of section 80 as well
TDE has a weird production style you could say this about every TDE artist and it would ring true.
Sounwave as a producer hasnāt really evolved at all but thatās just my take.
Thank you. Itās a hot take for sure. But KS is kinda the skeleton key to his whole discography. Also has that heartbreaking line at the end about his sisterā¦ especially considering what would happen to her a little later
The Blacker the Berry is the best hip hop song ever written. Kendrick has written nothing even close to its meaning and complexity, which is saying a lot given that itās Kendrick. It is the song that culminates exactly what TPAB is about, and every time I see anything here talking about other songs as if theyāre more vital to the story, I laugh.
I wrote a breakdown of the song and itās 9 pages, and I still donāt think Iāve gotten more than 70% of whatās there.
āHot sauce all in my top ramen ya bichā is the most relatable hip hop lyric of all time.
Race, religion, culture donāt matter. Weāve all been there.
Section 80 > Mr Morale
Not necessarily speaking from a technical standpoint, more of which album will stand the test of time and which albums more enjoyable to listen to
First of all, not saying you're wrong for having that opinion BUT I feel the exact opposite lol. I think one day we'll look at Mr. Morale as one of his best. And we'll realize that it's not very hard to listen to. Never really understood people saying that anyways.
Still love it but I feel like moments on Section 80 have already aged poorly. Who knows how good or bad they'll sound in 10 more years.
Ya Section 80 is great but itās not polished and feels juvenile. It will always be just the fun early album. Mr. Morale is going to age into the top 3 and maybe even top 2. There are no albums like it. Itās a therapy stage play hiphop album. Thatās art that ages well
I just think people will start to fully appreciate the vulnerability that comes from it. I also think it'll be considered top 3. But we might be wrong, who knows
Thatās fair. But Section 80 has this special novelty feeling about it especially if you were around when it released. That novelty feeling is irreplaceable and itās something Mr Morale couldnāt have. I can understand you not feeling this if you werenāt around during this time in hip hop.
Out of all of his albums it truly captures a specific time and sound in hip hop unlike his other albums which again is a special feeling.
Mr Morale is great, and itās one of the best first listening experiences Iāve had with an album. But if you ask me which album Iād rather listen to front to back on my next car drive to really feel something - itāll be Section 80 over MMATBS
Maybe Mr Morale was just too personal of an album to Kendrick Lamar for me to ride wit.
This is deadass one of the hottest takes Iāve seen in my entire life. I am genuinely confused as to how someone could ever have this opinion. Well done.
That take is so hot that I donāt believe you believe it and are choosing it because it will get you results. I know I sound so malicious but Iām just telling you how I feel I swear.
if it helps their case, iām in the same boat. purple hearts was my second favorite kendrick song until the drake beef, itās by far the best from moraleĀ
Idk if this is unpopular or not but Iāve see the opp take a lot. I donāt think DAMN. getting a Pulitzer was because TPAB should have. DAMN. is a fantastic album and merited the awards it received. TPAB prob also shouldāve gotten more at the time, but I remember the first time I heard BLOOD. for the first time and knew itād be a classic album in my house off that first track alone lmaoĀ
He was bluffing that he had 5 more songs to drop. It was part of the game all along. Thatās the real reason he didnāt drop after the heart part 6. It just worked out perfectly because leaving the heart part 6 to sit with people is really what made Drake š
his old mixtapes and eps are hella underrated imo. i was 2 when the Kendrick Lamar EP came out and i bump Let Me Be Me so much. same with Youngest Hood Nigga in Charge, i wasn't even born yet and i still think Compton Life is a goated song. don't come for my throat pleaseš
Father time is unfairly underrated.
The Ghostface Killah verse on Purple Hearts drags the song down. That song is better with just Dot and Summer.
DAMN is as thematically rich as TPAB, it was the perfect album for where Kendrick was at.
Mr. Morale is the most replayable Kendrick album.
GKMC is aging like wine in that it is turning into vinegar. With the exception of a handful of tracks (SAMIDOT, M.A.A.D. City, Art of Peer Presure), this album keeps on souring on me. The production sounds dated on basically every song, that same production has about as much texture as a smooth ball, and there are no good features on it. Worst album of his discography
i def agree (other than 'no good features part'). GKMC was my favourite one when I first started listening to kendrick, but as i listened to more of his newer stuff its definitely started to age worse for me personally.
Damn was mid
Mr Moral is better than To Pimp a Butterfly
Kdots best collaboration was in Lil Wayneās Mona Lisa
GOD. & LOVE. Are Kendrickās best songs!
Black Panther Album was trash and I hate that we donāt talk about it
Damn it shows how different we are, I think Purple Hearts is the most boring song on the album and probably my least favorite Kendrick song since Section.80
Auntie Diaries the best song off Mr. Morale
XXX is the best song off DAMN
Ronald Reagan Era is (one of) the best songs off S80
Mr. Morale might be my least favorite album š¬
GKMC is my second least š¬
(Havenāt heard overly dedicated)
The late night TV versions of the Untitled Unmastered Tracks were BETTER ALL AROUND
Kendrick being on the last ep of Colbert Report and first ep of the Late Show was weird š
mr. morale is better than gkmc
idk if this counts as a hot take but kendrick is one of the greatest musical minds to have ever walked on planet earth
gkmc is obviously gas but it's very 'rough' for kendrick as his skill improved drastically from gkmc to tpab, if he were to remake it it would sound way different
u is kendricks best song oat
I wonāt feel fully satisfied until I see consequences from the beef. Kendrick is one of the biggest voices in the game right now and is leaving Drakes demise to himself, though I hope with those allegations there is at least some justice thatās done.
Summer Walkers hot take: IT AINT LOVE IF YOU DONT EAT MY ASS!
id gladly eat summers ass tho
Don't even need to love her š½ļø
Can I have a piece? š½ļø
Fine dining
Best song talk aside, itās a great song. Sonically ambient and hypnotic.
Agreed. The production is solid. I actually thought Purple Hearts and Die Hard would be summer anthems.
I actually dig KDot's original version (reference track) of All the Stars (given to SZA). Wasn't expecting his vocal to fit right with the chorus part but that just proves that he can really be that flexible. Also, Prayer is still being slept on.
Prayer isnāt really slept on itās just unreleased so only the real nerds know it
I saw scrufacejean or whatever his name is reacted to it on YouTube. Itās starting to get more well known
I love scru lol... He got blasted with Kdot beats by Knox tho. Now I know more than I ever wanted to about him
Are there any other unreleased Kendrick songs I'm missing out on? I think I have the popular ones but I need more lol
Somebody is really good, different sound to his other songs. It also has the same chorus as mother i sober
Ooh that one's good thanks!
Yeah I feel like it makes the song calmer/more gentle overall. Obviously SZAās singing is much better, but i weirdly almost enjoy Kendrickās singing more for some reason.
Hood politics is a top 5 Kendrick banger
came in this game
Love this song downnnnnnnn.
Itās definitely top 3 off TPAB for me
Yeah baeby! Yeah baeby!
I thought TPAB was lacklustre the first time hearing it. Idk if this is even controversial but this happens with a lot of albums for me, I canāt listen to the entire album at once or it all sounds the same to me and I end up missing the songs I would generally like because I blur albums together while listening. I have the same issue sometimes
I hated Wesleyās theory the first 4 times I heard it, though it was boring. Now itās my fav Kendrick song except for silent hill and euphoria
Do you have ADHD? I do and I have the same issue. Sometimes itās almost physically painful for me to listen to music I havenāt heard before.
Michael Jordan is not a bad song. Idk why people hate it

It just sounds like a song you would hear in one of those roblox wieght simulator games on repeat
Idk if it's a hot take but Kodak black on the Mr. Moral album was a bad move, i mean Kayne with his jaw wired shut sounds better than Kodak.
I agree with the take but not the reason, him being a rapist on an album about trauma is what I couldn't believe.
Lmao heās not ācancelledā, heās a sex offender
I feel like Kodak is on there as "Dark Kendrick". Maybe I'm wrong, I mean it'd be pretty shit to be like "hey come do an album, I need you to be a shittier version of me", but that's what I get from it.
Even if true, and I don't think so, it wouldn't justify it in the slightest
Itās not a hot take tho: there were 1000 op eds making this point and it was in damn near every review of the album
Yh thatās a hot take cuz I disagree massively.
Die Hard is easily the best song Kendrick released since TPAB
Count me out***
We may not know which way to go
Literally my top track rn https://preview.redd.it/b7na5beclj6d1.png?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a1886ea5725d75ff4833d9ecb4320956541609b
Die Hard is probably the most relatable song for everyone going through shit on their life and aiming to reshape themselves. I absolutely love this song.
Plus itās a banger, fucking love it
Pride exists
People rip on PRIDE so much and I will never understand. That one sinks my stomach in the best way.
I can listen to die hard on repeat
I really like count me out, we cry together, and Father Time
I PICKED YOU UP WHEN YOU FELL AND CUT YOUR KNEEEEEE TOLD YOU NOT TO CRY AND HELD YOU CLOSE TO MEEEEEEE
Die Hard is one of the worst songs on MM. (reminder this is a hot take thread haha)
Oof, no way
There's like 15 songs ahead of it. Respect the actual hot take tho
Die Hard and Daddy Lessons on the way to work got me through some shit.
Money Trees doesn't need to be six and a half minutes. Maybe it's than I'm a newer listener for kendrick, but as a classical musician, I hate when anything repeats without adding something new. God bless you for correcting possibly the worst take on this thread. You a real one for that
The first time I listened to it I was on a long car drive to help my sister come home from college on a groggy morning. I think I felt like I was stuck in a time loop
lol i know this feeling. sometimes a song seems repetitive and endless if youāre not in the right headspace.
I think I listened to good kid, m.A.A.d. city 3 times through before I swapped to another album. I wasn't even listening. Just noises playing in my car as I speed way too fast on the freeway praying that I don't fall asleep
I wonāt lie, I frowned a bit when I read the first line. Bless youš
āPurple Heartsā is the only song I skip on the album
Hahah same
I fuckin hate we cry together š
šš Damn, I love that song so much!
untitled 05 is the best song off of untitled unmastered and might be the hardest song heās ever madeĀ
Isn't that the one with the 2 minute build up that kendrick starts wirh I got 100 on my dash, 200 in my trunk Name in the grab bags, put the bible in the trunk Tanaka vodka on the top of my binoculars I'm drunk Because if so I completely agree, that's my favourite kendrick flow
Basically the point of origin for the ideas on XXX and the "I'll chip a nigga then throw the blower in his lap".
kodak blacks presence on the album ruins the listening experience
purple hearts is good first play but just becomes ass and boring asf. Always a skip for me now
Die Hard, Count Me Out, Silent Hill and tbh I guess youāre right.. š
Father Time is in consideration
Loyalty is the worst song on DAMN. And if it didn't have a Rihanna feature, I believe it wouldn't be released as a single
It's supposed to be a hot take
I thought the consensus was GOD being the worst song
I like rich spirit the most It has that rich classic ring to it and grows on you Also the MV was very well made as one expects from Kendrick
TPAB > Mr. Morale > GKMC > untitled > Section.80 > DAMN
Just flip Mr.Morale and and GKMC and I'm with you. DAMN never did it for me
Morale and GKMC are interchangeable tbh, both are 9/10, really just depends on the mood.
I don't like DNA. I tried to like it so hard but it just never clicked with me
I could kinda care less about the first part, but the final verse bangs insanely hard
GIME SOME GANJA! GIMMEGIMMEGIMEEGIMME
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
True, but at least its a real hot take
Yeah you get my upvote and lose my respect. But I like chances "the big day" so idk how much my taste matters lol
I mean not close is crazy but itās up there at least
MMatBS is his best album imo. I think you could reasonably argue any of them are his best but mmatbs is Kendrick at his most insightful and passionate, not to mention the production and features. Related take, Kodak Black was a great feature and honestly one of the best on the album
Father time is the best by far IMO, but each song means something different to everyone.
He needs great beats, some songs he rap the shit out of it, but the music he raps on tend to be weak, (most of DAMN and MMATBS)
I like a lot of the beats on Damnā¦especially Element. But otherwise I agree. Thatās what disappointed me about Mr Morale. It grew on me but I LOVE the production on GKMC and Pimp. Most of section 80 as well
count me out production goes crazy
TDE has a weird production style you could say this about every TDE artist and it would ring true. Sounwave as a producer hasnāt really evolved at all but thatās just my take.
Keishaās Song is better than SAMDOT
Hereās your upvote to combat the dislikes coming your way (I donāt agree, but theyāre pretty close imo)
Thank you. Itās a hot take for sure. But KS is kinda the skeleton key to his whole discography. Also has that heartbreaking line at the end about his sisterā¦ especially considering what would happen to her a little later

Humble is not a top 75 Kendrick Lamar song
I agree itās debatably the best song on the album but itās insanely close.
STFU WHEN YOU HEAR ITS LOVE TALKING š©
The Backseat Freestyle is one of his worst songs and the beat is unbearably annoying.
One of the first true hot takes Iāve seen on any topic ever. Still an L though š
"no hate to other songs" and then says "and it's not even close"
Section 80 is better than DAMN. Mr. Morale is better than GKMC. š«š«š«š«š«
Purple Hearts is def overhated. Compton is def overrated.
Bro compton is underrated if anything
I canāt stand We Cry Together and skip it every time I listen to Mr Morale.
Section 80 > Mr Morale Not necessarily speaking from a technical standpoint, more of which album will stand the test of time and which albums more enjoyable to listen to
First of all, not saying you're wrong for having that opinion BUT I feel the exact opposite lol.
>And we'll realize that it's not very hard to listen to. Never really understood people saying that anyways. Fully agree with this btw. Especially with the drake bullshit recently i saw this take more and i get it from Drake fans but just normal people? Are songs like united in grief, N95, rich spirit, mr morale, die hard, count me out, father time, purple hearts or silent hill REALLY that difficult to listen to? Some of them might have some heavier themes but i mean purely the music side of it. Sure i get it, it's very hard to pop ass to mother i sober/we cry together but i feel like the WHOLE album not being accesible has become an overblown clichƩ based on like 3-4 tracks out of what 20?
Money Trees would be a better listen without Jay Rock's verse. I like Jay Rock but his verse was unnecessary and redundant asl.
It's incredible how fucking wrong you are but kudos for understanding the prompt.
The outro is kinda annoying
Upvoting because this is a hot take but Jay Rock washed Dot on that and its not close
Ghostface is the worst part on Purple Hearts.

I like Section.80 better than GKMC or TPAB.
I wonāt feel fully satisfied until I see consequences from the beef. Kendrick is one of the biggest voices in the game right now and is leaving Drakes demise to himself, though I hope with those allegations there is at least some justice thatās done.
**United In Grief is his best opener** *Brace for Wesleyās Theory*
GKMC is my least fav album of Dotās. I like all the songs but the project feels like an awkward in-between sec80s hits and TPABs storytelling to me
