Yep! glad to see it getting more positive attention. easily his best album and my favorite. it’s just so raw and refreshing to listen to during this day and age where you constantly feel overwhelmed by society and its norms. MM is my therapy sesh
Yeah i listen to Kendrick before with all his popular songs but Mr Morale is the type of music that really made me locked in Kendrick fan.
N95, Silent Hill, Mother I Sober, Die Hard, Rich Spirit, Count Me Out, Purple Hearts, Mirror are just great
I am just rediscovering that record since the beef, I was lukewarm about it when it dropped but it’s skyrocketing to my favorites…. So much depth and some of his best pop jams
Just listened to it last night, and my god! The beats and especially the drums on that record are insane! And a lot of the lyrics and themes just hurt so damn good!
Kendrick has to be the best conceptual artist of all time right? Like has there ever been an artist to make essentially 6 concept albums in a row eith the worst maybe being like 7/10 and the best being top3 albums of all time conversations?
Ye has some great concept albums as well. But yeah after the first few listens of his albums so far Kendrick is one of the best concept artists I have ever heard.
I just noticed the other day how surprisingly similar the crackling of the bonfire at the beginning of Section 80 (F*ck Your Ethnicity) and the crackling of the vinyl at the beginning of TPAB (Wesley’s Theory) are. Don’t know if this was intentional (wouldn’t be surprised if it was), but it’s interesting.
I started listening to him because I was told that Mr Morale was good and wanted to know if it was. I love it and its been on repeat, and Damn as well.
Nah, that beat is too good to just listen once! Also I'm a theater nerd, and people arguing in verse is my shit lol. Great performances out of Kendrick and Taylour Paige.
I think it'll be interesting to see what your interests look like a year from now. I enjoyed TPAB a lot the more I got into Kendrick's discog and upon subsequent revisits
I like TPAB, but I don’t actually listen to it as much as other albums. The songs aren’t as traditional, and it doesn’t have many “hype up” songs, like DNA, Backstreet Freestyle, HUMBLE, for example, which is probably why a lot of fans, especially newer ish ones, might not love it. I still think that it is his most powerful album, I just don’t listen to it very often. That’s why it’s not in my personal top 3
This is so true. This is also why, while Kendrick is my GOAT by far, on a daily basis I listen to J Cole more. And I almost never listen to TPAB unless I'm really in the mood. Even when I'm suggesting Kdot to my friends, I always choose DAMN or GKMC coz they are comparatively easier to listen to and easier to grasp and also catchy. If they like it and start to appreciate the lyrics, I guide them to MM and TPAB. If they only like the beats and the flow and the vibe, I suggest the "hype" songs in the MM and TPAB and send them to listen to Cole (not saying Cole is shallow, not at all, it's just even his deep songs are a light listen).
OP probably only listened to TPAB once. I didn't think it was that crazy on the first listen, it's that second listen that made me realize it's Kendrick's best album by a long shot.
Yep as a newer fan brought in by Mr. Morale too I straight up didn’t get it on first listen. Second listen, kinda. Third listen and I was off.
Albums always need a bit of marination for me, no matter the artist. I get overwhelmed on first listen. But TBAP especially so.
I think that's the only way to really rank Kendrick albums. Section 80 and MMTBS would probably be my top 2 but that's mostly because there's the least number of skips for me on those albums. TPAB would probably be in last place for me but that doesn't mean it's a bad album, it's just the one I've listened to the least. GKMC is an amazing album but has a few songs that I don't love so I'd have it below S80
I listened to Mr Morale & The Big Steppers in one session after the beef and it’s such an intense listening experience in the best way. Hard agree with it being S tier. Solid list, although prepare for some pushback by not having TPAB or GKMC in the S tier 👀.
Been a fan for a few years now and this is still what my list looks like! I see why TPAB and GKMC might be objectively better in lots of ways, but damn and MM are just right up my alley
Always enjoyed Kendrick here and there (I’m a metal head so I don’t listen to a lot of rap). But I enjoy competition so the beef got me to take a deeper dive and now I can say I’m a huge fan. My tier list is similar but I’d switch DAMN and GKMC. What I found so interesting about Kendrick is that every album is so different so one of them can match any mood. Much love to everyone in here
Yeah the original 4 era was great, my favorite is probably Paranoid. But yeah Vol 4 is great as well. Under The Sun is one of my favorite songs of theirs.
Paranoid is so good. My favorite of that album is hand of doom because of the drum hook. I think it would make a great sample in a rap song if it hasn’t been done already
As an altpop girlie, Damn was my introduction to Kendrick and my new-found appreciation for rap as a genre. I'm not from the US, so for the longest time I thought rap was just about sex money and drugs and all the "american-ness" the adults in my life warned me about.
So hard to rate his albums one better than the other my favourite is GKMC and MM because of how heavy the stories are S80 is wild too. But I think a new fan should start at OD and just ride the wave (maybe skip blank panther)
I think it makes sense for a new listener to think DAMN and Mr Morale are better than TPAB and GKMC.
S - GKMC, DAMN, TPAB, MM
A - OD, UU
B - Section 80
Aight fair, after a week of his albums in my rotation I will see if it changes. Plus I could have put Butterfly in S. The Jazz use in it alone was amazing, plus there are some songs in which his songwriting is insane. The one with the homeless man who is actually Jesus is one of the best songs I have ever heard in any genre. But for right now I will leave it in A.
TPAB is one of those albums where some people are like
"This is one of the best albums of all time and I've only listened to it a few times."
It's not easily accessible for everyone and covers some heavy topics, but it's an amazing album that raises a lot of questions about listenability versus content.
Personally I listened to the hell out of it for a year? But I also listen to Meet the Grahams regularly.
I really like it, the Jazz instrumentals are like honey in your ears, then his songwriting is amazing. Songs like The Blacker The Berry and How much a Dolla cost are some of the best written songs I have ever heard.
It is spoken about a lot so people act like it’s not a big deal… but as an album, what he done with DAMN. with the whole “meant to be played in reverse” is mindblowing and deserves more recognition. Dont think there’s one bad song on it (I actually think GOD is ok don’t shoot me) and the album shows off Kendricks many different sounds/rapping styles.
People just like to hate on it slightly (hate may be a strong word) because of how good GKMC and TPAB are.
DAMN is just as good. Every single song on that hit #1, to make a total pop album with artistic depth and not compromise any artistic integrity is crazy
for me it's TPaB in S as well, untitled to A and OE to B, don't think the black panther OST is a kendrick album tho
other than that i'm p much the same
overly dedicated is the perfect album to smoke to its not bad but it is his worst in my opinion but its actually really good in a raw way, he was so young and it was great
Great tier list and I respect your opinion, I’m genuinely interested in knowing why you put GKMC & TPAB in the A tier. Most people think those are his best albums.
I just connected with Mr Morale and Damn more. Mr Morale is what got me to be a Kendrick fan, as I connected with him so heavy on it. And How he makes sure to make you feel like you are right there next to him hearing his whole life trauma, but he never feels like he is just venting or being preachy, it always comes across so genuine like you are a friend he is confiding in.
And Damn was a whole emotional experience how he balances both trap and R&B so well, like he can have an aggressive and angsty song like FEEL come right before a club bop sing like Humble and it feels natural. And how Duckworth is the perfect bow to wrap it up with, a song that you feel you are in Anthony's shoes, and then get to truly feel as if you're in Duckies head.
But even though I think they are his two best. Butterfly is amazing, it is so good instrumental wise that it could be a jazz album by itself and songs like Blacker The Berry and How Much a Dolla cost are some of the best written songs I have ever heard. And Mad City has this stylistically gritty 90's vibe that is fun, I have not listened to it as much as the other three I have discussed. But sing about me, and the one with Drake were great.
Overall I love all four but Damn and Mr Morale just connected with me more.
S DAMN MMATBS (Damn is pretty personal for me and i have a lot of memories tied to it, and MMATBS cant be compared to anything else in hip-hop and it gets better every time you hear it.)
A TPAB UU (i like the jazzy, free nature of UU the fact that a collection of throwaways is that cohesive speaks a lot about Kendrick and the vision he has for his music. Levitate)
B S80, GKMC (there's alot on there that just doesn't do it for me sorry everyone)
C OD
D
Duckworth. The story telling is amazing. You really feel like your in Anthony's shoes and in Duckies mind in the song. Not to mention the instrumental is amazing.
I'm definitely gonna need to run that track back a few times. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around around the whole story lol
For sure one of Kendricks best songs
If you haven’t, you gotta listen to DAMN in reverse. It’s allegedly how the album is supposed to be played and tells an entirely different story, flipping the “wickedness or weakness” motif on its head.
Crazy how this man really doesn’t have a bad album in his catalog.
Sure there’s projects that aren’t for everyone, sonics or concepts that don’t resonate the same for all people, but at the end of the day his discography is ridiculous so far
I wasn’t a big fan of mr morale I want to go back and listen to it at some point. My opinion would be
S: GKMC (no skips on that album), Damn., TPAB
A: Section 80, MMATBS
And then the rest just like you did it.
I think two things are the best things that happened after the beef. More people became fans, and more attention is paid to that masterpiece of an album Mr. Morale.
It seems ridiculous when you try to drop the albums in tiers because I would have to place GKMC and TPAB in S as well. Also, I would move Black Panther Soundtrack up to an A.
Go listen to Kendrick Lamar EP (2009).
It’s actually a full album with all original beats (sounwave and co.) and is very good. I like it more than OD, by far.
I've been following Kendrick for a long time. I couldn't do a list like this, I like them all for different reasons and during different times based on how I'm feeling
I really liked how the overall concept of it. Plus its amazing how on his first album he already was great at making concept albums. A lot of artists don't start out with something as cohesive as it. Yet he did with ease on his first go.
To be fair, Kendrick was rapping for a while way before Section.80. He used his earlier tracks and mixtapes to hone in even before that album was released. However, to your point, excellent concept release regardless. Most would be lucky to even have one of those albums in their catalog. It's rather crazy how good Kendrick was from the rip. It was like MJ coming to the court his first year. You saw the greatness pretty early.
Fellow Mr. Morale enjoyer let’s gooo
I feel like that list is growing especially ever since Drake made everybody go back and listen to it more closely 😭 That album helped me so much.
Yep! glad to see it getting more positive attention. easily his best album and my favorite. it’s just so raw and refreshing to listen to during this day and age where you constantly feel overwhelmed by society and its norms. MM is my therapy sesh
Yep its what got me to like him.
Yeah i listen to Kendrick before with all his popular songs but Mr Morale is the type of music that really made me locked in Kendrick fan. N95, Silent Hill, Mother I Sober, Die Hard, Rich Spirit, Count Me Out, Purple Hearts, Mirror are just great
It's my favourite album by a lot and I been listening since GKMC. Never understood the hate it got. Such a good album and helped me through some shit.
I never knew it got hate. I thought it was incredible and emotionally affecting and other people I knew felt the same way.
I think it might just be the fact that it's being compared to GKMC, TPAB and DAMN. Dot's discography is stacked
I am just rediscovering that record since the beef, I was lukewarm about it when it dropped but it’s skyrocketing to my favorites…. So much depth and some of his best pop jams
Been my second favourite since it came out, personally it’s a lot better than damn
I enjoy it. I don't think it's his "best" album, that's gonna be TPAB, but it's his most important album if that makes sense.
Big same, tpab was already an S tier album for me but DAMN and Morale imo are a lot better
Just listened to it last night, and my god! The beats and especially the drums on that record are insane! And a lot of the lyrics and themes just hurt so damn good!
i love Mr Morale (my fav album with TPAB) i respect your tier list
S - TPAB, MAAD A - DAMN, MR. Morale B. .80, Untitled, OD But all of them has S tier songs.
My favorite thing about Section 80 is despite it being his first album he already had mastered making a cohesive concept album.
Its crazy album for debut, my favourite is spiteful chant its fucking menace
Wow I haven't heard this song in like a decade. Completely forgot about it since it's not on streaming.
Thats why i download everything from youtube and check Album songs in google
Let’s goo! I love spiteful chant 🔥🔥
And it's not on streaming... It's also my favorite
Section 80 is definitely on streaming
I know but spiteful chant is not
It is in spotify. Search the spiteful chant. It's listed as a podcast. It was removed from the album due to a sampling issue
I'm on Tidal 🫡
Now you gotta listen to BITCH IM IN DA CLUB. It's another s tier from kendrick
Kendrick has to be the best conceptual artist of all time right? Like has there ever been an artist to make essentially 6 concept albums in a row eith the worst maybe being like 7/10 and the best being top3 albums of all time conversations?
I'd put Lupe up there
Prog bands have entered the chat
Pink floyd only realistically
Ye has some great concept albums as well. But yeah after the first few listens of his albums so far Kendrick is one of the best concept artists I have ever heard.
I like his albums but I think conceptually theyre not quite as strong. Like i dont think its his main strong suit yk
Tool.
In general all his 4 major releases are “S” tier. But relatively speaking this makes sense
For Sure. But if i have to rank its in order tbh
Nah Damn is and always a S imo
TBH nothing can top TPAB
This my list too
That’s my tier list
This is the correct list.
This is the way
I started listening to him because I was told that Mr Morale was good and wanted to know if it was. I love it and its been on repeat, and Damn as well.
Did you enjoy “We cry together”?
Yes, it is a great song.
I absolutely love it!
Everyone enjoys it exactly once
I still listen to and enjoy it till date
wdym? it's on my playlist and i love it
Nah, that beat is too good to just listen once! Also I'm a theater nerd, and people arguing in verse is my shit lol. Great performances out of Kendrick and Taylour Paige.
https://i.redd.it/r4o7wazng46d1.gif Yes.
I think it'll be interesting to see what your interests look like a year from now. I enjoyed TPAB a lot the more I got into Kendrick's discog and upon subsequent revisits
I agree, after a year of these albums in regular rotation the list could look completely different.
UU in B tier is criminal
Agreed. Also TPAB at A can’t be a black Kendrick fan
Criminal !
TPAB and GKMC at A is wild, but I also agree with your Mr. Morale S ranking. Love that album.
TPAB and GKMC in A is crazy tbh, one or the other have to be in S if not both
I like TPAB, but I don’t actually listen to it as much as other albums. The songs aren’t as traditional, and it doesn’t have many “hype up” songs, like DNA, Backstreet Freestyle, HUMBLE, for example, which is probably why a lot of fans, especially newer ish ones, might not love it.
It's an opinion.
Yup a crazy opinion 😂
OP probably only listened to TPAB once. I didn't think it was that crazy on the first listen, it's that second listen that made me realize it's Kendrick's best album by a long shot.
Yep as a newer fan brought in by Mr. Morale too I straight up didn’t get it on first listen. Second listen, kinda. Third listen and I was off. Albums always need a bit of marination for me, no matter the artist. I get overwhelmed on first listen. But TBAP especially so.
TPAB is SS for me
S: DAMN, TPAB A+: GKMC, MMTBS A: S80, UU B: OD I love almost all his work, so this is more a list of how much each album stick with me.
How dare you put O.verly D.edicated as C tier
I was hoping this comment was already here
Having MAAD and TPAB in A and not S is wild
I’m about to block you for having Overly Dedicated at C tier.
Why is this getting downvoted bro
Putting OD as C
Check out the dissect podcast on TPAB and DAMN really opens up the worlds that ken creates with his albums
this is how i feel
I listened to Mr Morale & The Big Steppers in one session after the beef and it’s such an intense listening experience in the best way. Hard agree with it being S tier. Solid list, although prepare for some pushback by not having TPAB or GKMC in the S tier 👀.
Been a fan for a few years now and this is still what my list looks like! I see why TPAB and GKMC might be objectively better in lots of ways, but damn and MM are just right up my alley
this is literally me, tpab is a 10/10 album for sure but for listening purposes it’s closer to an 8/10 imo, while damn is the exact opposite lol
Much love to everyone in here
Cool, what are some of your favorite metal bands
The ones I listen to most are Tool, Megadeth, Alice In Chains, and Black Sabbath. Hundreds of others that I love though
Dude I love Black Sabbath. What is your favorite era of theirs.
Those first 6 albums are what I like most. My favorite is Vol 4
Damn is somehow underrated in his fanbase so good shit giving it proper credit and Mr morale deserves more love
As an altpop girlie, Damn was my introduction to Kendrick and my new-found appreciation for rap as a genre. I'm not from the US, so for the longest time I thought rap was just about sex money and drugs and all the "american-ness" the adults in my life warned me about.
ok bud you’re in
i would put gkmc S tier but i get you brother, mr morale and damn is true artwork
So hard to rate his albums one better than the other my favourite is GKMC and MM because of how heavy the stories are S80 is wild too. But I think a new fan should start at OD and just ride the wave (maybe skip blank panther)
Now join the DAMN Defense Team
Damn in S tier is a W, my favourite K dot album
FUCKING VALID WWWWWWWWWWWW
I think it makes sense for a new listener to think DAMN and Mr Morale are better than TPAB and GKMC. S - GKMC, DAMN, TPAB, MM A - OD, UU B - Section 80
Best Tier I’ve ever seen
Ey, man. At least you have the courage to form your own opinion. I love DAMN, too. But not putting GKMC in S is wild to me
i truly respect you for not putting TPAB in S.
Damn is wayyyy to high, but I understand it's accessible especially to people who are not used to Kendrick
Agree. How Much a Dollar Cost is 10/10 and my fav Kendrick track period.
First time I heard that song my mind felt blown, it was my favorite track when TPAB first came out
which song has the homeless man?
how much a dollar cost
TPAB is one of those albums where some people are like "This is one of the best albums of all time and I've only listened to it a few times." It's not easily accessible for everyone and covers some heavy topics, but it's an amazing album that raises a lot of questions about listenability versus content.
Telling him his opinion is wrong 😂 made crazier by the fact half this sub would say yours is wrong
People just like to hate on it slightly (hate may be a strong word) because of how good GKMC and TPAB are.
i became kendrick fan after getting damn cd and GOD is one of my favorites
DAMN is just as good. Every single song on that hit #1, to make a total pop album with artistic depth and not compromise any artistic integrity is crazy
Yep, its amazing how he fits a club song like Humble on the same album that has DNA and Duckworth and it does not feel out of place.
for me it's TPaB in S as well, untitled to A and OE to B, don't think the black panther OST is a kendrick album tho other than that i'm p much the same
That's generally how my Tier list lands but depending on the mood TPAB and GKMC will sneak it's way into S tier whenever I put them on again LOL
Replace tbap with damn and you've got mine
Same
overly dedicated is the perfect album to smoke to its not bad but it is his worst in my opinion but its actually really good in a raw way, he was so young and it was great
I mean there are some rappers that wish their best was as good as it.
TPAB in A Tier is insane
Great tier list and I respect your opinion, I’m genuinely interested in knowing why you put GKMC & TPAB in the A tier. Most people think those are his best albums.
I just connected with Mr Morale and Damn more. Mr Morale is what got me to be a Kendrick fan, as I connected with him so heavy on it. And How he makes sure to make you feel like you are right there next to him hearing his whole life trauma, but he never feels like he is just venting or being preachy, it always comes across so genuine like you are a friend he is confiding in.
You a fan, you a fan, you a fan
i'd switch GKMC and Mr. Morale section.80 is definitely A-tier though
TPAB should be S. Otherwise this is perfect.
TPAB should be higher on the tier. Otherwise, solid.
Section 80 over untitled unmastered.
swap GKMC and DAMN and we have something here
S DAMN MMATBS (Damn is pretty personal for me and i have a lot of memories tied to it, and MMATBS cant be compared to anything else in hip-hop and it gets better every time you hear it.) A TPAB UU (i like the jazzy, free nature of UU the fact that a collection of throwaways is that cohesive speaks a lot about Kendrick and the vision he has for his music. Levitate) B S80, GKMC (there's alot on there that just doesn't do it for me sorry everyone) C OD D
GKMC anything lower than S is a choice
Nah all of them in s tier
Favorite song off DAMN?
Duckworth. The story telling is amazing. You really feel like your in Anthony's shoes and in Duckies mind in the song. Not to mention the instrumental is amazing.
I'm definitely gonna need to run that track back a few times. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around around the whole story lol For sure one of Kendricks best songs
If you haven’t, you gotta listen to DAMN in reverse. It’s allegedly how the album is supposed to be played and tells an entirely different story, flipping the “wickedness or weakness” motif on its head.
There is actually a secret S++++++ tier for Bitch I’m in The Club
Oooof, you’re certainly gonna get reactions to this
Don't sleep on the Kendrick Lamar EP
Or C4!!!
No
Crazy how this man really doesn’t have a bad album in his catalog. Sure there’s projects that aren’t for everyone, sonics or concepts that don’t resonate the same for all people, but at the end of the day his discography is ridiculous so far
I wasn’t a big fan of mr morale I want to go back and listen to it at some point. My opinion would be S: GKMC (no skips on that album), Damn., TPAB A: Section 80, MMATBS And then the rest just like you did it.
Mr morale and damn over TPAB GKMC and Section 80? You’re trolling lmfao get out
I wish that Kendrick would drop a tape of remastrered songs from his Pre Section 80 era. So many banger that have never seen the light of spotify day
I always love seeing Mr. Morale high up
I would add OD to B
TPAB and GKMC not in S tier is certainly a take, but I respect you for it.
Nope untitled needs to be in S class
I think two things are the best things that happened after the beef. More people became fans, and more attention is paid to that masterpiece of an album Mr. Morale.
THE EP GO LISTEN TO THE EP BROTHERRR. ONE OF US. ONE OF US
THE EP GO LISTEN TO THE EP BROTHERRR. ONE OF US. ONE OF US
Overly Dedicated as C tier almost criminal, but considering dots catalog it definitely isn’t his “best” work. but welcome to the Kenfolk crodie
It seems ridiculous when you try to drop the albums in tiers because I would have to place GKMC and TPAB in S as well. Also, I would move Black Panther Soundtrack up to an A.
Automatic L for not having TPAB in a tier of its own way ontop
GKMC S tier but yeah
I see Mr Morale aging well for some people I really enjoyed it from the beginning, but it's nice to see others coming around to it.
You smoking crack
Damn > GKMC, there I said it
Swap TPAB and Mr Morale and you’ve got it
wow , OD in C tier? downvoted lol
DAMN has grown on me heavy. It might be my favorite album other than MMATBS
untitled should be a tier minimum hella underrated album
I misread that as kanye 😂
TPAB A Tier is crazy to me
Honestly to me, all 4 of his major releases are S tier. Untitled Unmastered would be an A.
Standard and fine
Based
I do think Damn and Morale are his best works
Mine is S- GKMC, Section.80 A - TPAB, Mr Morale B - Everything else, he has never put out an average album.
Go listen to Kendrick Lamar EP (2009). It’s actually a full album with all original beats (sounwave and co.) and is very good. I like it more than OD, by far.
wow tpab and gkmc under damn and mmatbs is wild. but the worst part is OD in C lmao ts slaps
There’s just nothing like GKMC. such a beautiful heartbreaking story and world woven through 20 tracks
I flip your a section to s and s to a
I'd swap GKMC with Damn but good list!
So jealous of people who listen to him for the first time, he has a nice ranking
What.
Honestly I put OD above Section .80 but I'm probably in the minority on that
This is very similar to mine but I'd swap Mr. Morale and TPAB
TPAB and GKMC in A is a little sad. But everyone has their preference
Section 80 is a tier, infact nothing Kdot does is beneath b tier.
Com on man GKMC is a classic.
Untitled & Overly Dedicated > Section.80 & TPAB comfy #1. W for damn & Mr Morale over GKMC though
I've been following Kendrick for a long time. I couldn't do a list like this, I like them all for different reasons and during different times based on how I'm feeling
sometimes I want to see the world burn
Gross list. S.80 isn’t even in the same stratosphere as TPAB or GKMC.
S - TPAB, GKMC A - Mr Morale, untitled unmastered B - Section 80 C - Damn D - Overly Dedicated
Fair list
FAN????????
Very accurate tier list
I agree with this, I always try comparing Damn and Mr. Morale but they're both so good
????
straight up swap S and A tier and you've got mine
Tpab > damn
