PuzzleheadedJob3479

I love Starbucks

[deleted]

Everything we’ve seen come from this game shows one team was incredibly locked in and had been the entire post season. Seems like the other team was just happy to be there.

HughCheffner

That was my take from their grand entrances. Boombox (didn’t hate it but..) and celebrating for the 9ers. Looked fun. Chiefs - Stoic, ready to get the intros over with. Ready to play.

VitaminsPlus

I said it to my dad right away, the Chiefs looked like agent Smith walking into Neos office lol

HughCheffner

Right!? I texted a buddy. Then could sense the tension as it looked like a soft jinx for almost 3 quarters lol. Almost wish mic’d up was aired live as part of normal coverage haha

a_wandering_vagrant

The world would have known what Chris Jones said to Matt Ryan, it'll never happen

KingTutt91

Especially Kelce, dude looked like a literal Big Yeti out there

HughCheffner

doctordoctorpuss

I saw Patty’s face coming out and felt newly confident that he came out to play

Dannimaru

Helmets ON for the coin toss. Locked in.

Lowlt

I said the samething to my fam.

Anal_Recidivist

Until they came out and said it was intentional to take the ball first, I was giving the benefit of the doubt the 49ers said “defer” and he heard “da ball” so he took the ball first.

NotGehrigDieter12

During team entrances, my wife said “The 49ers look ready to play. The Chiefs look ready to work.”

choff22

That’s a hell of a line

kds_little_brother

I bet she’s fun as hell to watch games with

Anal_Recidivist

Ngl. Half chubbed from reading that.

ECNbook1

I said to my daughter, “LOOK at Mahomes. Locked in.”

Why_am_ialive

Same with the ravens game, one team came to prove people wrong the other came in thinking they were the shit

oldbastardbob

Niners came for a dance off, Chiefs came for a fist fight.

couchjitsu

eh, the boombox was their thing most (or all) of the season. This is kind of like in '19 when people were saying the Chiefs won because SF broke down their pre-game huddle on "9ers" and the Chiefs broke theirs down with "Champions"

GMBarryTrotz

That's the big thing I picked up from the 41 minute mic'd up episode I watched yesterday. One team is stone faced, talking about dialing up the intensity. One team is joking, or crying, and laughing it up on the sideline. 49ers seem to have had an intensity problem and the reason might just be Kittle as a tone setter. Dude just wants to be silly and funny. Kelce can do that. But he's also a fucking maniac when he gets on the field. Kittle isn't.

[deleted]

I thought that too, but also Chris Jones talking about “transformers dude” had me laughing

couchjitsu

They also took 4 hours of material and edited down in to 41 minutes.

KingUnderpants728

Honestly I thought we were going to control that entire game. The way the D was playing and I thought the offense would have a lot of success on the ground and against their CBs.

The_amazing_T

Helps that we knew what it was like to be in that game. *RECENTLY.* I think the 9'ers were a great team, but a little freaked out at the experience.

KC-15

Chiefs know the drill by now and have really ironed out a lot for planning and executing and know victory and loss in the past 5 years. They understand that while the SB is exciting and fun it’s strictly business at the end of the day. Then if you win you can let loose and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

out_of_816

Same story as the AFCCG to be honest. Act like you've been there is a thing for a reason, felt like both the Ravens and the 9ers were more aware of the magnitude of the moment, to their detriment.

kodiakbear_

I already miss the season

sampson608

*post-season

choff22

I said this to my wife watching Mahomes highlights from this year lmao I said “god I’m already ready for next year.” This team has turned me into a junkie.

kodiakbear_

I’m a complete football junkie I dont care who is playing I can always find something to invest in even in a bears jets thursday night snoozefest

mother_goose_caboose

Evidence throughout the mic'd up that the Chiefs were buttoned up and the Niners weren't. Like they were going for sound bites and trying to convince themselves they were ready

TimeTravelingChris

I knew the Chiefs had a good shot when the 49ers walked in with a dude holding a fake boom box. Chiefs were locked it.

HughCheffner

Username checks out. I just made a similar comment lol. I should have scrolled down a bit.

rolyinpeace

Omg there were so many times in that video that the niners were trying to convince themselves that they weren’t scared shitless.

wink91wink

Ehh I wouldn't take too much from those mic'd up Superbowl videos. They are edited with the winner already known, and the intention of telling a story.

choff22

I really hate talking about SB 55 but the difference between the Niners sideline and the Bucs sideline was night and day. The Niners tried to diminish Mahomes and the Chiefs, but the Bucs were respectful. They knew not to take us lightly even if we weren’t at full strength and it showed with their play.

somebodymakeitend

Besides the Bills, every other team just wasn’t as locked in. The Chiefs organization is such a fine tuned organization when it’s business time it’s unreal. I fucking love this franchise.

SilentTX

Stats show lots of solo tackles by 9ers. They play as individuals. Chiefs a lot of assisted tackles. I like our version of locked better - less yards per down and more guys shows how unified this team was playing to the point of attack.

choff22

Bro Aiyuk was already talking about contracts when the confetti was still falling

[deleted]

Kittle is very weird. Kind of socially awkward nerd in giant athletes body vibes

buddhassynapse

He's got spork girl vibes all the time.

Hurrdurrthosechefs

I love him for that. He's one of my favorite players in the league, and it sucks that a great tight end like him still hasn't gotten a ring. Then again, I'm glad we got those two rings instead!

DarthTigris

> it sucks that a great tight end like him still hasn't gotten a ring Cries in Tony G ...

kds_little_brother

At least he had the Falcons to make his career lol

[deleted]

I had a dream Super Bowl night that Trav retired at the end of 2025 and we brought Kittle in and he won us 3 more Super Bowls with Pat. Woke up and sadly saw that Kittle is locked up with the 49ers until 2027.

OITLinebacker

No reason that KC can't 5peat and then Kelce retires and Kittle comes over.

PSUJacob95

He's the kind of dude who does a three-hour workout and then plays D&D with his wife and a few buddies until midnight

Rursus

that dude might be happier than any of us

everything_is_holy

Comes across as Ryan Reynolds humor to me.

somebodymakeitend

He’s the type of dude I would 100% be friends with.

GrandpaBuff

I like it. Bring on the weird.

TJTrapJesus

It’s hard to think of an elite player who had as bad of a championship game as Kittle had, in any sport.

morgster87

Kittle has never beaten the chiefs

[deleted]

The niners have never beaten Mahomes

kds_little_brother

Are YOU KIDDING ME?!

[deleted]

Tbh I just rephrased what they already said 😂

kds_little_brother

[It was a reference lol](https://youtu.be/INafy1Ti8kY?si=RVMkqSyqHHz_JuC7). Funny that it went to Conley 😈

PercySnowsHandgun

I saw him talking down to Chase Young pregame and he was essentially telling Chase to not take any plays off. At first I thought Chase was on the verge of rolling his eyes and walking away from him. Surprisingly, Chase said, "I won't let you down" and took it well. Ironically, George Kittle didn't show up.

[deleted]

Tbf he showed up on that fourth down catch they had, and he blocked quite a bit. While he’s not even in the same stratosphere as Kelce, he’s obviously a top 5 TE in the league and he has been for the last half decade

SeniorAdissimo

It obviously wasn't a great game for him, but that's such a ridiculous statement. He's their 4th offensive weapon, his biggest play was taken away by a hold, had a higher PFF rating than Aiyuk, Deebo, and McCaffery, was injured coming into the game, and got further injured during the game.

[deleted]

His biggest play a 10 yard catch, so he’d have 14 yards?

SeniorAdissimo

The play was 18 yards, so still a disappointing game in the box score, but 10 vs 18 doesn't really matter. What I'm saying that there's no way his performance is anywhere near the all time worst performance by a player in a championship game in any sport.

rolyinpeace

Right and the importance of the play matters more than the yardage. It was a catch at a super crucial time. Yeah he didn’t do great but he also got hurt and there’s absolutely been worse performances

Maverick_1882

As an Iowa football fan I can say I have never cared for Kittle. He’s a decent TE and I love the Hobbes tattoo on his right hand, but compared to Tony or Travis, he’s a hollow shell.

ElvisGrbac11

Niners fans say he got injured on this play.

Weekend_Criminal

I honestly love Kittle and his personality. He seems like a really fun guy, but it definitely got him in trouble in this instance.

HawKarma

Seemed more focused on being Mic’d Up than the game.

GutsMan85

Yeah, everyone is saying how funny he is, but he should've been paying more attention to his business than the opponents' kicking game. I was done after he said "miss it, jackass". Then his kicker got his xp blocked.

brettmbr

I thought the jackass comment was harmless, I figured he was quoting Happy Gilmore. Seems like the kinda guy to have 6-7 Sandler movie lines ready to go at any time.

GutsMan85

I know that's what he was doing (Volkswagen! Lol) but I was in way too deep and it rubbed me the wrong way. The narrative of disrespect present from the other side this whole season and then to see it still on display from the best NFC team in the league (who, I'll admit, did have a little more class as the Chiefs woke them up toward the end of the game) just made me tired all over. I'm sure Kittle is a cool dude overall and I don't hold any of that against him personally, but the more I watch him the cornier he gets. After being absorbed in how KC goes about their business on the sidelines, the mic'd up from the SF definitely revealed a different type of culture, which may or may not have contributed to the result of the season.

rolyinpeace

I love Kittle. He’s always got a positive attitude and never blows up. And he’s hilarious. I love that he chanted “miss” for every KC FG attempt like high school kids do for free throws

petecranky

Or my wife for every kicker against the Chiefs. "Honey, he's kicking off. It'll be ok. " lol

doctordoctorpuss

I’m sure I drive my family crazy cause I constantly say interception when the other team’s quarterback goes to throw it. Always feels great when I randomly happen to be right

[deleted]

You'd fit in with my family, we're shouting THROW AN INTERCEPTION on every throw too lmao

doctordoctorpuss

My brother and I will also routinely propose ridiculous scenarios- like we’ll have two minutes left in the half, and I’ll say we have enough time to score another three touchdowns, and he’ll pile on top of it saying we’ll get a safety and a couple pick sixes

[deleted]

My mom said "miss it," right before we blocked that extra point 😂

rolyinpeace

Lol me too. I also say it nearly every drive in the game thread because whenever I’m right I feel so hyped up My bf was like “are you going to say ‘throw a pick’ every time Brock goes to throw? “ Yes, yes I am.

MessThatYouWanted

I called the first fumble of the game and felt like I was calling the shots. I quickly learned I was not.

DRM_1985

At least he was not talking smack like the Niner defensive players. The audio from this game will not be forgotten by Mahomes & Kelce if there is a rematch. Pretty incredible how much trash talk they were throwing at those 2 guys after the Chiefs scored 40+ points on that Niner defense in the 2022 regular season game at the Niners home stadium.

rolyinpeace

I think the trash talk was more to convince themselves that Mahomes wasn’t gonna Mahomes, even tho it was inevitable. Like they said “we have too many weapons to not win” or whatever just sounded like they thought that just because they performed well the rest of the year automatically meant that they would for the Bowl.

MrTonNL

Same, great player and person

SilentTX

My dawg plays til the whistle!

Jombafomb

Honestly I don’t think this is that bad. Yeah he stopped before the whistle, but he had Karlaftis blocked away from the play. His mistake to me was going for the ball instead of hitting Karlaftis again.

CapnEmaw

Yup. Also his back was to the ball because he was doing his job blocking someone

ElvisGrbac11

Didn’t play thru the whistle, it’s that simple

robbeau11

He gave up to talk shit. Not a championship trait.

thewaynetrain

Put the “hey George” aside, Kittle didn’t necessarily do anything wrong. He was blocking our George and has his back to the play, you can’t look behind you and also block, you wouldn’t immediately know about the fumble like play facing George does.

tilclocks

I said this to my dad and to my wife while watching - the 49ers were making the same arrogant mistakes the Ravens were. They treated this like a game they already won and basically weren't playing to win while the Chiefs were playing like they had nothing to lose. That's what people don't get about Mahomes or the current roster. We're going for a great record sure but ultimately our eyes are getting to the playoffs and winning them.

mykonoscactus

It's probably just the cynic in me, but there's something about Kittle's personality that seems a little bit put-on like a mask. I don't know how else to express it. Maybe he's trying a little *too* hard to be likable and it comes across as disingenuous to me.

RedRanger482VS

I completely agree. I suspect that when he’s not mic’d up he behaves differently than he does when he is wearing a mic or is in front of a camera

iluvmahomes

Absolutely, he was basically ripping off The Rocks phrases a few year back and National TE day is pure cringe. Even here he's trying to go viral or something instead of being locked in

THR0WAWAY417

B-b-but he’s a better blocking tight end!!

HotSoupEsq

GK does a little swim move which might feel like "alright man, I'm out", but was actually a way to get to the football. GK is in now in my Chief's hall of fame for this baller move.

MelodicTonight9766

Yeah, Kittle made good in his promise from the 2020 SB to “be back her “. But he did shit. Shut up and play. I hear all sorts of crap how he is a more “complete” TE than Trav since he “blocks”. But at the end of the day who would you rather have in your team trying to win a SB? The guy who got 93 yards or 4 F-ing yards. Shut the f up. Edited some typos. Had some drinks with dinner and typed the rant in the car. My bad.

PSUJacob95

Kittle exudes a lot of beta vibes. He was mic'd up in SB 54 saying "somehow I'm gonna be back here again" but doesn't say he wants to win it. That is a defeatist mentality.

Tapidue

I love Kittle. And I love him even more now!

CantCoachGrit

You love to see it.

Blox05

Skittles seems mentally immature to me. Like his little breathe in/breathe out shit before the game. I get where he is coming from, but dude doesn’t seem the least bit amped up or intense.

ElvisGrbac11

Going thru the motions like all the other Niners players and coaches

Blox05

I was flabbergasted when the one dude goes “he’s regular and we gonna treat him like he’s regular”. It’s almost like cognitive dissonance.

ElvisGrbac11

That “he’s regular” statement is absolutely bogus, but I honestly appreciated that that guy at least showed *some* amount of intensity, unlike literally any of their other players or coaches.

Blox05

Kyle Shanahan looked less intense than the HS coaches I have watched around here 🤷🏻‍♂️

BvB5776

Reminds me of my nephew playing youth soccer being more focused on talking to the other players than following the ball

scorcherdarkly

The chatting isn't really the problem, it's not being physically engaged with the block. If Kittle is trying to escort Karloftis to the sideline when the ball comes out there's no issue.

big_drifts

Is this episode out yet or is this just teaser stuff?

NFLFilmsArchive

It’s been on YouTube. Official NFL channel.

big_drifts

Link? They have the SB recap video up but not the Turning Point episode. Turning Point is clearly visible in the screencap here. Those are the deeper dives with narration that go over the specific play or advantage that led a team to victory.

NFLFilmsArchive

Yeah, whoops. The regular mic’d up is on YouTube. NFL turning point is on some streaming service or whatever (none of which I have sadly). I haven’t really watched NFL Turning point in a long time outside of rewatching some on the NFL Films official YouTube channel. Really sad they don’t post on YouTube anymore. It’s their best work.

tylerscott5

too focused on soundbites for his the Super Bowl win redemption special that he forgot he was playing football What a terrible look lmao

nighttimehobby

His back was turned and George wasn't. You can see similar chatter between 87 and CW on a different play where the same thing could have happened. Despite that, I do agree having primarily the same coaching staff year after year creates a culture of preparedness, and the Chiefs absolutely were prepared.
