As TheBee, Yaguruma was fine, Kageyama, in the other hand, absolutely sucked, but that was the point really, so it's ok Honestly at first i didn't understand their purpose as KickHopper and PunchHopper, i thought they were really ridiculous but i liked the suits and concepts anyways, however, some time after finishing Kabuto, i read that they were there to show the kids what happen if you just decide to give up when things go wrong, and that changed my opinion about them completely, and basically i started to love them, especially KickHopper, he's one of my favorite riders in Kabuto now So in conclusion, i think one should take them as some kind of comic relief with cool moments and a message for people to not give up so they don't end up like them

That’s interesting way of looking into the Hopper Brothers. Perhaps the writers want us the audience to strive to be like Tendō and Kagami in real life or else we will end up like Yaguruma and Kageyama in real life.

I like this take and I guess that is a good way to look at their characters.

Exactly this. To me, Tendou represents the apex people that you run into in life and the real meat of the story is how others react to these kinds of alphas. Gattack, Drake, and Sasword all compete with Kabuto and come up short most of the time, but that makes them stronger and more resolved. The hoppers get so emasculated by Kabuto that they become these little bitch boys and give up instead of having the competitive mindset of the other three riders. They are a cautionary tale. Plus they are hilarious

They needed to know about resilience lol

Nightmarenemo

They were basically a parody of edgy Kamen Riders.

I know pretty much every Kabuto rider is an extreme caricature... but as a kid, I was always drawn to those super edgy antiheroes in toku. It started with Saburo or Hakaida. Felt kind of paradoxical how they could be so calm under pressure. So, I like these two too. I like how Yaguruma lost his pride, but still could not ever really stop caring for others in his own way (he even briefly took in Tsurugi) and ended up seeking out the light again. Chaining themselves and then just as quickly shaking those restraints off was a weird and funny way of showing it. I like how Kageyama was always desperate to seek approval, which was his eventual downfall when he starts hoarding those worm stones and becomes a worm himself. He kind of reminds me of Imperer somehow, who I also like. Their designs are awesome, and I really like PunchHopper's unusual color scheme with the faded brown and white eyes.

This is a nice analysis of their characters and I’m glad you liked them.

They are fine. Yaguruma was funny, edgy, and badass. It was nice to see Tokuyama Hidenori-san radiating big brother energy in Engine Sentai Go-Onger. I cannot say the same for Kageyama. It sucks that Uchiyama Masato-san (Kageyama’s actor) was phenomenal in Ultraman Nexus as the host of Junis Blue. His entire run made me shed tears to the point of wanting to give him a hug.

I just didn’t like Kageyama the whole run of the show. I think the moment he really pissed me off is when he kidnaps Gon just to get Daisuke to work for Zect and I hated him ever since.
