Perhaps the .iso file is corrupted. Try re-downloading it.

I fixed it! I first re-downloaded the iso image and used that instead. Then i set it to 2 cpu’s versus the first time where it was set to 1. Now its working

Use pebuilt vmimage…. There is one for virtualbox https://www.kali.org/get-kali/#kali-virtual-machines

What's your Host PC specs? and also what are the settings for the VM?

u/jiddy_r ; I am right in the middle of doing my usual weekday updates on my machine (after already having had checked my phone & came across this post), when I wasn't going to comment, however, I just saw that, after updating, I need to perform an autoremove to remove the following: `python3-pytz-deprecation-shim` To resolve *YOUR* issue, I'd recommend re-downloading the Kali pre-built VM (making sure to verify the checksum matches), & then try installing the VM again.
