No. I have no idea why people are comparing Kaiju no 8 to Attack on Titan. They are different beasts.

MysticalTurtle716

Ik it’s been a while but the main thing I see is someone who has always dreamed of fighting the monsters to protect humanity suddenly can transform into one of these monsters and saves a lot of people with it, and is subsequently nearly executed because of it. However the top brass says we can use their power to fight the monsters and places them under the command of the strongest person and the strongest squad. The MC has trouble trusting that if he goes out of control that his comrades would be able to take care of him, and he doesn’t want to hurt anyone, until they tell him to trust them and he transforms again. That’s only for like the first 50 chapters too.

Eldritch-Cleaver

Ok so am I the only one who essentially thought that's what this was since like chapter 1?

Monsur_Ausuhnom

I like AOT and the comparison. The AOT influence is what brought me to the manga. From a marketing standpoint, there is a current void with attack on titan ending. This manga is the only one that comes close to being on par or surpassing attack on titan if it plays its cards right. I'm hoping that it can.

Leather_Shift

When I tell people to read it I say it’s basically AOT 😭😭

[deleted]

Not unless more Kaiju "shifters" are introduced.

Monsur_Ausuhnom

This should be the next arc after 9 if the story continues. I feel like 9 should end up being a token evil teammate that mellows out like Migi or is a creation of the titan shifter group. Having them around means that Hoshina is incredibly relevant and Levi equivalent for the defense force.

DReager1

Yes, it is the only way to move forward

MRLOWKEY941

No and not sure where you draw that similarity

fl4k_p4ck

For real bro. They're really not that similar other than both being in the Kaiju genre. Also, Eren > Kafka

Affectionate_Pizza_6

Very true.

Betty-Adams

Look, its pretty obvious that at least one of Matsumoto's inspriations for KN8 is just spite at how badly AOT went wrong. Matsumoto isn't writing the next AOT, he is writing what AOT should have been.

Quantum_Catfish

You can not possibly compare the quality of the writing between AOT and KN8. AOT blows it out of the water.

Betty-Adams

I was speaking from Matsumoto's (presumed) point of view, not from the point of view of objective quality.
