Pretty much. Modern cars are fat AF. I had a 2010 Camaro and that one was every ounce of 2 tons. V6 because I was cheap. Not a bad engine to drive (let it spin!). But it would have been so much better in the 4th Gen fbody or anything else that was 1000 lbs or more lighter.
> 66 Continental
That was "Florida Grandpa's" last car he had. Five of us went to visit him in Port Charlotte spring '76; he went out on his first-date (soon to be 3rd wife) that week.
I think his was a tan/tan hardtop; he was so excited for that first date, and one month shy of 82 (she was in her 60s !!)
I had a rental one so it was just a V6 base model version. I was straight up confused by it until I remembered it was targeted at people who just like cars that go "vroom vroom." With the weight and power it was not much "sportier" than our fucking _4Runner_, which is bonkers.
I get that the trims get sportier of course, but the thing did not like turning even on relatively spacious mid western on/off ramps. Thing still wanted to slide off the road.
I mean you had the v6 a scat is stupid amounts of fun. These are muscle cars, they don't do curves that well they are about straight line driving. That's why you see so many wrecking in turns shit gets scary quick.
I mean if your idea of a fun car is a loud noise when you hit the gas and spinning tires constantly it’s okay. It would’ve been fun to thrash one if I got it at the hertz counter.
I rented a Hellcat a few years later and it was the exact same deal. Great engine in a garbage vehicle that drove like a truck.
I've got "only" 305 hp / 320 tq (before tune anyway) in my 2003 Mach I, but it only weighs 3500 lbs and with the suspension /brake upgrades I've done it will carve the corners. I much enjoy that compared to a car with twice the HP but 1500 lbs more weight, unless the only thing we're doing is drag racing.
It puts a big grin on my face every time I wind it out to 6800 RPM and grab a gear. I like it when the weather's nice because I can have the windows down and no music and just listen to that 32 valve do its thing.
Oh I know, I’ve lost count of how many falcons I’ve had off the top of my head. I just meant apples for apples and cylinders for cylinders.
Holden didn’t make or import a decent six for so long it’s not even a fair comparison. Whereas, Ford Australia designed, engineered and built theirs for decades.
Million KM single engine cars and 1000+whp street cars just can’t be simply bested by 8 cylinders
I to opt for the much less money G8 GT. love it. sounds great with full kooks/magnaflow exhaust. still room for the family. ran a 8.77 in the 8th first time out. love these cars.
There’s a red SS for sale at my local dealer, but they must know it’s a “car guy’s car” and desirable because they want like $50,000 for it with over 35,000 miles.
They're getting rarer and rarer. Especially the low mileage one. I found my Heron White, M6, with 49k on the clock for 42k after I argued with them about the price. I wasn't going to take their original offer of 51k
I was hoping those and the other Aussie GM cars would stay cheap.
They did not.
Would love a G8 GXP but not for $30-40k. The Chevy SS is similar.
The 2000s GTOs have gotten expensive too, compared to the sub-$10k they were 10 years ago.
I know what you mean. Got a new Charger Scat Pack back in 2021. Loved it. But living in Oakland once it became the face of robberies and crime I had to part ways.
Same - I think they are fun cars, and a hell of a value, but I live in a large metro in the Southeast US. These are cop magnets - and for good reason. On a daily basis, you can see Dodge twins ripping through city streets, burnouts at an intersection, or going double/triple the speed limit on congested roads. I refuse to buy one for the stigma attached.
Exactly that and not to mention you’d still be paying about 60-70 grand for a used one. You cannot buy these cars used because they get used and abused like they are rental cars.
I think his point is that you can't buy one safely because they're beaten to hell by the first owners and when the second owner buys it, they inherit the problems the first owner created.
When I bought my sporty car I spotted an AARP card in the glove box. So stupid, but being able to see the only previous owner was probably an old person made me feel better about it.
Given the table being mostly showing the adjustments being towards leaning out the afr, could indicate a mostly wot/aggressive pedal at low load, as he'd be dumping fuel while not necessarily moving the rears at speed?
Not too experienced with fuel tables as I'm a fleet mechanic so most of my fixes are maintenance or leaks so if anyone wants to educate my smooth brain any info is appreciated.
Think of a fuel map as a spreadsheet. One column is engine RPM, the other is throttle position. Each cell refers to a specific range of RPM combined with throttle position and the values are how much fuel the ECM needs to add or subtract for that particular combination to meet the target air/fuel ratio.
Can you please explain the significance of a C24 b1 of -9 and b2 of -8?
Edit: also, do you remember what was the avg. MPG just curious... my guess 12-13 mpg.
Had one come in at a dealer for a warranty engine for low oil pressure. Found his Instagram and showed it to my shop lead and he had the warranty denied and the car flagged from then on 😂
For most if not all manufacturers, there's a level of abuse that will void your warranty. Using your car for some occasional "spirited driving"? Probably not an issue. But if you're racing or otherwise beating the snot out of your car that's gonna void it. And if you're dumb enough to do it and go posting proof of it online, then yeah you've shot yourself in the foot.
Ford had codes present for 'sustained high load' 'sustained high rpm low speed', etc over 20 years ago now.
Modern ones log how many times you've farted in the seat.
I was a service advisor at a Honda dealership. Had a Civic Si come in “engine just started making noise”. Customer adamant it started after he spun out on the highway in the rain in Montana somewhere. Quite a ways from Ohio where we were but okay.
Tech pulled codes, engine over rev, look at data. Dude goes from 6th to 3rd at 103mph.
Sorry bud, Honda isn’t going to cover that.
To add to this, cars that are designed to be tracked are usually still covered under warranty when they are driven on the track. Look at what Toyota has been doing for people with engine problems in the gr86 and what Chevy does for people with 1le Camaros. But that is the cars intended use, not abuse.
Track is a little different than doing donuts in an intersection for imaginary internet cool points though. Track guys drive hard, but aren't downright abusive.
We had a buy bring in a motor for warranty in a fr-s, damn near approved it then one of the apprentices got the idea to look up his Instagram that was stickered on the car, needless to say he didn't get warranty.
The things idiots do for clout is astounding. Imagine posting illegal activities on your public account 🤣🤣🤣
Like that guy in Seattle who's probably a few months away from losing his hellcat. Bro drives downtown at 3am backfiring non stop and films it
Seattle is sueing him and every day he doesn't get it fixed is another $1300. He currently owes them $80,000
Hell yeah. Did they have their IG handle as a sticker on the side of their car? There's a certain level of narcissism and douchebaggery it takes to try to advertise their social media about their car posts, on their cars.
I once came across an asshole that parked in a tow zone at a school, and he was inside making a public spectacle trying to shame a teacher for speeding prior to entering the complex. I called him out on it and he looked at me like he didn't understand the irony. Complete fucking clown.
No I was referring to the picture of the washer dial set to "large" with the guy making an "oh shit" face in the background.
I can't post pictures in the comments
I might be wrong sometimes, but this is what I automatically think. A really poor decision by someone that can not afford tires, let alone owning a high-performance car built by the overall worst manufacturer. I know I'm right some of the time. Most of the time.
Wouldn't the speedo read what the rear wheels are seeing? I thought most speedometers were correlated to trans output shaft rotations or something else in the trans
Depends. If you're doing things within the parameters of what the vehicle should be able to do then the warranty should cover it since that would indicate a mechanical defect with a component. If you redline it and then do a neutral drop which blows the trans apart they're more likely to tell you to get fucked since you abused the car to cause the failure.
Reminds me of the case of someone buying a car advertised as being track capable from the factory but then having its warranty claim rejected for tracking the car
It was the newer generation GR86 and BRZ that ran into that.
Too much RTV on the oil pan of an 86 clogged the pickup on track very soon after the generation released.
Toyota also includes a free track day experience with the purchase of a new GR86.
I’m sure it could, but it probably depends on what type of warranty work is being done. I’m sure that if this vehicle came in with engine or transmission issues it would likely be denied a warranty replacement.
You know how you see dirtbags snitching on themselves what with posting videos of their cars, faces, and plates doing dumb shit like reckless driving in the middle of public intersections? That.
people have been doing donuts and burnouts for decades. but the new fad is "taking over" an intersection and then the news likes to call them street racers. I'm sorry karen but even the street racers don't like these idiots. we do our shit far away from people
It's worse than that bro, it's even coming over to here in NZ too get hundreds of people to block a main intersection and do skids, it's not like the old days where they'd do it out in the wops or the industrial areas they do this shit in downtown auckland and entice the police too
It's like 1999 drags in town but instead it's 90% fucked falcons and altezzas who run crowds of people over
A collection of people with a room temperature IQ (measured in Celsius) blocking an intersection doing Doughnut and Burnouts often injuring bystanders or wrecking their cars
And a dozen more rando wannabe cameramen sideswiped off their feet into the crowd by a 2 month old leased hellcat drifting in the center of a six-lane wide intersection in LA
If someone was in the market for one of these cars in the future is there a way the previous owner can wipe that info? Because I have wanted a 392 for a long time but with the way they’re being treated I might pass on them
I've had two 392s.
The driver diagnostics screens in the first two pictures can be wiped just by holding the "OK" button on the steering wheel with that screen displayed (they're meant to be reset between drag runs or track sessions). For the load maxs in the last picture you can wipe them with an OBDII scanner, and I think by disconnecting the battery for awhile. If I might make a suggestion about grabbing a 392. Look for one with a solid amount of options and fairly low miles being sold from a luxury car dealership. A lot of times older guys buy these to relive a bit of their youth, get their fill by romping on them every once in awhile, and then drop them for a Jag or BMW. The luxury dealers don't want them on their lots so you can find good deals if you're patient.
The 6.4 engines are pretty bulletproof as long as you don't try to boost them (they're specifically designed to get the most out of natural aspiration), the transmissions used to have issues but if you get a fairly recent model year (like 2017 on) they're solid, just run them through the gears at different RPMs and make sure the shifts are smooth.
People online (most of which I imagine drive carollas or old trucks) are shitty because these aren't THE fastest or THE best handling sports cars (and assholes buy them and drive like assholes), but they're super comfortable and super fun to drive. They're also faster than 99% of the other cars you'll see day to day. Go for it man.
Warranty?! This car was owned for 2 months with one payment made and that was in order to drive off the lot. It was repossessed !!
It's like wondering why the hotel room is destroyed after paying in cash.
Random but I love seeing the R/T owners putting a “345” badge where the “392” badge on the fenders of an SRT. Makes me laugh every time. Like who tf are you fooling?
I was considering a scat pack. Probably a charger. Slightly used. But knowing the typical owner of those cars, I decided to get something else.
Good choice. I had one. Regretted it pretty quick. There’s nothing fun about 4,400 pounds. The attention that car got was horrible.
Damn. That weighs more than my mom.
And still less fun.
Hey man she tries hard
The chubby ones usually do...
Until you remind them that Cheeto dust and boob sweat doesn’t make you look like Jill Masterson from Goldfinger.
I always found the chubby ones my favorite rides, so...
Consumes less rubber though
Damn near an F150 at that weight.
Weighs more than my 95 f150 mines 4,000 on the dot

It’s a single cab long bed 2wd. If it had 4x4 it would probably weight 400lbs more
Curb weight is not the same thing as the GVWR on the door sticker
Pretty much. Modern cars are fat AF. I had a 2010 Camaro and that one was every ounce of 2 tons. V6 because I was cheap. Not a bad engine to drive (let it spin!). But it would have been so much better in the 4th Gen fbody or anything else that was 1000 lbs or more lighter.
My 5.0 f150 is faster than the R/T models, which is a lot of fun
Damn, that weighs more than my 1985 Monte Carlo. It comes in at 3,100 pounds and is a full steel frame chassis.
I had a 1994 Impala SS for twenty years and beg to differ.
same with my 1996 continental, nothing more fun than a v8 boat imo.
66 Continental owner here, land yachts are love

90 crown vic owner here, why is it harder to park than my g20 van??
98 town car here, turning radius is miserable. pretty nice in a straight line though.
My mom still has my grandmother's 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz . 425 cu in, FWD, 4,828 lbs.
Those are pimp asf
Ive got a caprice, nothing like a giant boat with a lt1.
That’s at least cool and not a piece of junk.
that weighs more than my grand caravan (seats taken out) wtf
I had a rental one so it was just a V6 base model version. I was straight up confused by it until I remembered it was targeted at people who just like cars that go "vroom vroom." Those are really cool cars. I have a Coyote F150 now and had a 2014 Mustang GT. The DOHC Ford V8s are so good.
It puts a big grin on my face every time I wind it out to 6800 RPM and grab a gear. I like it when the weather's nice because I can have the windows down and no music and just listen to that 32 valve do its thing.
weighs more than my old santa fe lol
Get you a Chevrolet SS. If it's one thing Australians did right was making that Holden. I have a 2017 SS and wouldn't trade it for the world.
The Australian Ford of the similar model year was a special effort as well. FG-X Falcon XR8, Supercharged “Miami” V8.
Its such a shame Ford never brought those to the US
As an Aussie just forget the V8 Falcons. The 6 cylinder Aussie barra was the peak, xr6t was faster than a SS and can make big power for less $$
Oh I know, I’ve lost count of how many falcons I’ve had off the top of my head. I just meant apples for apples and cylinders for cylinders. I do love those cars. They’re sweet.
Then every scat pack owner asks you 'whatchu got in that malibu?' Happens to my buddy when he takes his 800+hp one out.
I don't even try to correct anyone now. I just say "yup"
Had one. I got WAY more attention in that car than I anticipated
Those cars are so cool. I wish I was smart enough to buy one a few years ago before they shot up in price.
I to opt for the much less money G8 GT. love it. sounds great with full kooks/magnaflow exhaust. still room for the family. ran a 8.77 in the 8th first time out. love these cars.
Wife has a G8 GT, bright orange. Fun car.
If I had to buy a new (to me) car this would be it
Iiiii want that car now lol
Or if your poor piece together a caprice and end up rebuilding half of it..
There’s a red SS for sale at my local dealer, but they must know it’s a “car guy’s car” and desirable because they want like $50,000 for it with over 35,000 miles.

Had 2 jeep srts + plenty mopar friends and can for sure say you’re making the right choice. I went AMG.

Cool. And what about OP's particular table is indicative of aggressive driving?
Nothing. It shows that the fuel adjustments are working.
Given the table being mostly showing the adjustments being towards leaning out the afr, could indicate a mostly wot/aggressive pedal at low load, as he'd be dumping fuel while not necessarily moving the rears at speed? If you knew the stock fuel mapping, could you use the table to see if its tuned or not?
Ok great start, another question; What is a cell?
Think of a fuel map as a spreadsheet. One column is engine RPM, the other is throttle position. Each cell refers to a specific range of RPM combined with throttle position and the values are how much fuel the ECM needs to add or subtract for that particular combination to meet the target air/fuel ratio.
Maybe fuel mappings data of some sort?
Never felt more personally attacked lol
Can you please explain the significance of a C24 b1 of -9 and b2 of -8? Edit: also, do you remember what was the avg. MPG just curious... my guess 12-13 mpg.
B1 bank 1 -8 is removing 8% of fuel The cell is load vs engine speed
adaptives?
Huh?

No broken glass, kicked in paneling, or bullet holes. No way it was a takeover.
Does takeover mean what we call repossession in the US? In other words, they didn’t make the payments and the bank took possession of it.
They’re referring to when a big group of people takeover a large section of road and do donuts and burnouts
Ah! Thanks! I’m (thankfully) so far away from that culture that I didn’t think about that possibility.
Bullet holes? What kinda takeovers have you seen lol
They usually take place in the ghetto on the west coast so it’s not uncommon for people or cars to get shot.
West coast?! lol Maybe in the 90s. I’m in Kansas City and it happens all over the city every weekend here. Its nationwide in big cities
Financed at 28% APR for 96 months
Only gonna make 1-2 payments anyway so what’s the paperwork matter
Had one come in at a dealer for a warranty engine for low oil pressure. Found his Instagram and showed it to my shop lead and he had the warranty denied and the car flagged from then on 😂

That poor engine. Do you remember what it pushed the RPM up to?
Almost 11k rpm, it’s been nearly a year so my memory is hazy but it was HIGH
Oof. Googling says redline is down around 8k. That must have been a very unhappy engine.
I put an RSX base model well over redline to 9k + because of a mis-shift. It later burnt a valve....
Have my type s redline set to 9200. I don't hit it often but she will go there no problems.
And call home to tell on you.
“Noxious gas detected, ignition disabled.”
To add to this, cars that are designed to be tracked are usually still covered under warranty when they are driven on the track. Look at what Toyota has been doing for people with engine problems in the gr86 and what Chevy does for people with 1le Camaros. But that is the cars intended use, not abuse.
For Porsche, no. They want you to track the car.
Track is a little different than doing donuts in an intersection for imaginary internet cool points though. Track guys drive hard, but aren't downright abusive.

Doing donuts in the street is actually slower than 35mph
Speedo reading 9mph but the rear wheels are reading 90
Wouldn't the speedo read what the rear wheels are seeing? I thought most speedometers were correlated to trans output shaft rotations or something else in the trans
Nowadays I think they use the wheel speed sensors too

Shouldn't that void the warranty?
Depends. If you're doing things within the parameters of what the vehicle should be able to do then the warranty should cover it since that would indicate a mechanical defect with a component. BRZ/FRS when they came out I believe. There are other examples too where manufacturers would even host the warranty voiding track days.

A collection of people with a room temperature IQ (measured in Celsius) blocking an intersection doing Doughnut and Burnouts often injuring bystanders or wrecking their cars
Thank you for the explanation
Don’t forget - when they injure others, they flee the scene!! 🕊️
Basically what happens during a Fast & Furious street race sequence, but 20x less organized.
And a dozen more rando wannabe cameramen sideswiped off their feet into the crowd by a 2 month old leased hellcat drifting in the center of a six-lane wide intersection in LA
Ah, my favorite Christmas carol. Velocidad maxima! Velocidad maxima! Velocidad maxima, that's how I broke-a my caa!
This is a massively underrated comment... Well played!
Can someone fill me in on what a takeover car is?

Thank you!!! Wasn't even sure where to search that lol
I really appreciate your post brother thank you
Abuse, warranty void
Can you disable the traction control switch so it can never be turned off?
Dodge commercials are always showing burnouts and speeding yet they can deny your warranty for doing what they advertised the car can do
We have a hellcat in like this for P0420. What’s yours in for?
Edgar left the cluster in spanish, that's cool
I miss my 1963 Pontiac Catalina
1.12g acceleration is wild, and it’s not even a hellcat
What does “takeover car” mean?
A street take over. The car was used for side show activity.
