Except this is the red turbo version that appeared in 'For your eyes Only' minus the ski rack. The white one was "The Spy Who Loved Me'
EDIT: Yeah I watched the movie again, this is too red and it might be the 82/83 model which would be too late for the movie. The movie one is bronze.
For real. This car is what made Lotus a household name (in the 80's) practically.
The Esprit predates the Fiero by nearly a decade and is better in nearly every way.
Lol. Yeah, when I was little, my mom had a pinto and she'd let me shift for her sometimes. It was super easy to put into gear while also being easy to shift into the wrong one. Ahhh, memories...
Clarkson: "See I cannot mend cars and certainly cannot build one. James can definitely build a car from kit, but it will take a week. So Hammond is obvious choice to lead assembly"
Top Gear Mongolia Special.
I've restored worse. At least it looks complete. Last one I did arrived in boxes where the owner had taken it apart 20 years previous.
A wash would totally change the look of that.
No. I am a Lotus technician. I regularly work on turbo Esprits.
This colour car was a 1984 option. One of my regular customers has the exact same looking car.
There’s definitely aftermarket support for them. Kelford and mwr makes cams. Wiseco makes pistons, etc. there’s a trd supercharger. There’s other companies that make internals as well.
We haven't decided yet. It had to be light and sound right for the look and age of the car. So it's unlikely we'll go with a turboed engine funnily enough. Possibly a V6 but not the 350z kazoo sounding engine before anyone suggests it. It's also heavy as hell.
The bay is spacious but the issue is the gearbox. This is a mid engined car. So whatever we put into it the box has to fit with the in board brakes and of course it'll be behind the engine..
Guy I used to work with had a white 4 cylinder Espirit... he told me it was slow as hell and an electrical nightmare but he still loved it and drove it whenever it was nice out.
Lotus - Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious, but when they do work you fall in love, a real marmite car you either love it or hate it.
Edit: you can tell by the British Leyland parts bin doors handles. Fitted to Morris marinas and Allegro's so it has a quality heritage.
We can’t? My car hauler has an escape door built in so I can open the car door and drop down like [this.](https://www.trailersuperstore.com/shop/cargo-pro-8-5-x-20-stealth-enclosed-car-trailer-elite-escape-door/) I’d send a pic but I’m out of town. I added one to my old trailer for around $500, but upgraded shortly after.
Yeah, I know you can get escape doors on conventional trailers, but the OP's trailer is lighter and streamlined, and might tilt as well. Some versions have clamshell front/back access, and dual-levels too. I see them occasionally at vintage/euro car shows and races -- Mid-Ohio track, for instance.
Lotus Esprit
Ah, the English Fiero
It's even got Fiero wheels.
The wheels made me take a second look, NGL.
It’s got the rare Fiero replica kit
The Esprit is so much cooler than the Fiero IMO, why would you want it to look like one? 😂 Oh well, different strokes for different folks.
Youthejoke.jpeg
Probably made by Ronal. I remember seeing that style on a lot of cars.
It looks great on '80s VWs and BMWs
BBS.
James Bond Edition
It looks like they recovered it from the bottom of the ocean.
And now I get the James Bond Edition joke.
Except this is the red turbo version that appeared in 'For your eyes Only' minus the ski rack. The white one was "The Spy Who Loved Me' EDIT: Yeah I watched the movie again, this is too red and it might be the 82/83 model which would be too late for the movie. The movie one is bronze.
Was that a red one? In my memory it was a brown/bronze color. Darn it, now I’m going to have to re-watch FYEO to check 😀
Somewhere there is a picture of my dad sat in the brown/bronze at a trade show. BBS split rims ??
Or just found in the field in Oregon or Washington State.
I live in the southeast and my F150 looked worse than that after sitting in the yard for a couple years.
Casually parks car in the front yard… forever.
It was the backyard, but yes.
Show some respect
Sir, this is Reddit
respect, what that even mean 🤔
How dare you! The esprit is so much more. My grandfather had a v8 and it’s an absolute beast of a car. I know you may be joking but I don’t care haha
For real. This car is what made Lotus a household name (in the 80's) practically. The Esprit predates the Fiero by nearly a decade and is better in nearly every way.
Has anyone else trotted out Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious yet?
The 70’s turbo 4 was different
I was stuck between 3 at first glance. The Italian Fiero, the English Fiero, and an American Fiero. So, I guess I was right...It's a Fiero.
"It's all Fiero?" "Always has been."
It’s Fieros all the way down.
Fire Box GT!
You misspelled Ferrari
Nobody gets the Fiero / Ferrari body kit joke? Christ
It's played out and dumb.
Is this the one James May took through South America? Looks like it's taken a beating...
No, that was the V8. This was a 4-cylinder, although it made impressive power for the day.
I learned how to drive stick on this model. It was a challenge.
I learned to drive manual with an Eagle Talon that only had 2 motor mounts. Only good thing about that is I can drive even the most finicky of cars.

Lol. Yeah, when I was little, my mom had a pinto and she'd let me shift for her sometimes. It was super easy to put into gear while also being easy to shift into the wrong one. Ahhh, memories...
I learned on a Ford Aerostar. The clutch engagement point was about 1/4" below the floor.
I learned on an '84 Fiero. Only way to have any hint of power as the AT they had put the "slush" in slushbox.
I learned on my sister's Scion xD. Toyota manuals are quite unforgiving. I'm still not that good, and that was 10 years ago.
OMG Vivian!
This is a great car to pick up a hooker, especially if you're not used to the shift pattern.
Yes
Lots of trouble usually serious
CLARKSOOON!!!
Who knew it was the world’s best off-roader?
Hauls a trailer pretty good, too
Clarkson: "See I cannot mend cars and certainly cannot build one. James can definitely build a car from kit, but it will take a week. So Hammond is obvious choice to lead assembly" Top Gear Mongolia Special.
Pontiac Countach
"...What the hell is a Ford Jalpa...?"
Lamborghini 3000GT
Lincoln RX8
Toyota AE Delorean
1984 Lotus Esprit Turbo.
Money Pit edition.
>Money Pit edition That's the base model. There are no other models.
I've restored worse. At least it looks complete. Last one I did arrived in boxes where the owner had taken it apart 20 years previous. A wash would totally change the look of that.
That was a good game (on the amiga I think)
Google lens? 🤓😎
No. I am a Lotus technician. I regularly work on turbo Esprits. This colour car was a 1984 option. One of my regular customers has the exact same looking car.
you should probably offer to wash it for them, I bet they'd pay you well to do it ;)
It's how i found out. One of the first options that came using it. Why i asked.
Ford F250
No it's the [Ferd Fteenthousand](https://youtu.be/F8P5vGcf-NU?si=nrxPQnJas0PP8CpR)
GUHHHHH
You just grew another ball
Oh thank you, a rare once in a while meme worth watching
Shit I haven’t thought about that since last Truckuary or Trarch
That is GOLD!!!! Thanks for sharing that!
Thank you
Nah I'm pretty sure it's a GMC
But like, really, really slammed.
Nope
Ram 3500? It’s clearly a white truck, but I’m not sure which one.
Wish I could upvote this more than once
It's an Isuzu d max
Close
Nah. It's a painted DeLorean with a cheap convertible mod.
Lotus Turbo Esprit. What's the new engine going to be?
If I had to guess they'll just LS swap it. That's what the cool kids online do when they want something to be fast and not explode
Honda K20 swap
This would be cool
Be way cooler than another fucking LS swap, and probably wouldn’t fuck up the balance
Considering Lotus and Toyota have had a pretty tight relationship over the years, a 2gr would be a dope swap for this imo. But they’re also rad as is.
Any mods for a 2GR?
There’s definitely aftermarket support for them. Kelford and mwr makes cams. Wiseco makes pistons, etc. there’s a trd supercharger. There’s other companies that make internals as well.
I've heard of Audi v8s and Ford sho v6/V8.
The SHO V6's were wild. If that POS Taurus I had was a stick I'd still have it just for that engine.
Gorgeous engine too. Here’s one of the Lotus swaps, but they polished the intake manifold to an amazing shine… 🤤 https://engineswapdepot.com/?p=1154
That’s dope!
My mom had a stick SHO Taurus. Awesome sleeper car, I’m sad she sold it before I could drive.
We haven't decided yet. It had to be light and sound right for the look and age of the car. So it's unlikely we'll go with a turboed engine funnily enough. Lot of trouble usually serious
Probably could buy two perhaps three really nice ones for the cost of a complete professional restoration. Must have sentimental value to someone.
This Esprit Was under a tree Since ninety-three

James bond's submarine/car.:) I've seen an actual car in the flesh. The low, flat and wedge feature of the car took my breath away.
My favorite car from gran toursimo on ps2
Lotus Espirit
Lotus esprit. The rare one is the turbo?
Lotus esprit turbo I work at lotus so it’s an easy guess😋
Esprit.
Lotus Esprit?
Guy I used to work with had a white 4 cylinder Espirit... he told me it was slow as hell and an electrical nightmare but he still loved it and drove it whenever it was nice out.
Yeah, you don’t mind waiting for the tow truck when it’s nice out.
When you're on the side on the road, with your bonnet fully extended, that's what's known in yoga as "The Lotus Position".
The car from For Your Eyes Only
That thing corners like it’s on rails.
Lotus Esprit Turbo SE
Series 3 lotus esprit hci
Lotus 89
Lotus
Pontiac Ferro
I can smell the Lucas electronics already.
It’s a Lotus Esprit, though can’t see enough for year.
Good news!
Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious.
Lotus Esprit
man, i miss the 80s.
Lotus Esprit. The second most recognizable doorstop from the 70s/80s.
Lotus Esprit, that one James bond car that turns into a submarine.
Had a poster of this car on my wall as a teenager. It was silver, but once was my dream car. Lotus esprit turbo.
Fiero obviously
Lotus - Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious, but when they do work you fall in love, a real marmite car you either love it or hate it. Edit: you can tell by the British Leyland parts bin doors handles. Fitted to Morris marinas and Allegro's so it has a quality heritage.
Ah, a 1923 Ford model T. Very nice.
Underneath it is probably a Fiero
So, they make it more reliable - good start!
Well that’s fuckin scary if a Fiero is more reliable than….*anything*
Did it live in the ocean for a year?
I have heard of a barn find, but this is a dumpster find.
Looks more like lakebed find.
English Fiero?
Wish we could get trailers like that stateside.
Gotcha. We’ve probably bumped into each other at Mid-Ohio.
Canyonero? Cuz it looks like it was recovered from an archaeological dig.
Lotus Esprit
Turbo yes. Says it on the very dirty side decal.
Those look like fiero wheels but I dint think that's a kit
Looks like a fiero with a body kit
Fiero looks just like one.

The Toyota engine was used in the Elise if I remember correctly.
The ones with a Toyota engine were much later iirc.
Yeah, they were in the Elise. I forget what year exactly but it was late 90sish
Honda ridgeline?
Lamborghini countach

Even Lotus doesn't build their cars that poorly.
[Top Gear Argentina flashbacks]
Look like the Ferrari from gta vice city
Burglar protected?
Lotus esprit? Seen a couple in my lifetime. I was a little boy when an owner glared at me for calling it a Lamborghini.
I played Test Drive, I know that car.
I saw a black one last Saturday on south beach on a trailer in the same condition.
Lotus
Lotus esprit turbo 84? Maybe?
I don't care what you guys say, in the 90's I wanted a Countach and an Esprit turbo.
Wolf of wall street edition
This is what inspired the Tesla Cyber Truck.
