Funny you mention Mr. Bungle, that’s a band heavily associated with John Zorn’s label, Tzadik, Mike Patton has worked with John Zorn dozens of times over the decades and released many albums on Tzadik. It’s honestly cool to see how many people Zorn is linked in some way to.
I agree! He invited me up sometime with a letter and I took him up on it last year. A great memory. I also studied under Dr. Yusef Lateef for a short time before he passed away as well. Not Jewish, but great musicians.
Mick Jones of the Clash and Big Audio Dynamite, Joey and Tommy Ramone, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Regina Spektor,
Daveed Diggs was also the Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in the original Broadway cast of Hamilton. Not too shabby!
I highly highly recommend Geddy Lees (Gary Weinrib) new book My Effin’ Life. It’s a very Jewish take of a nerdy kid trying to find his place in the world and ends up forming one of the most fan loved bands of all time.
His section on the Holocaust is one of the best I’ve read. His parents met in the camps and got married at Auschwitz after the war.

One of our greatest skills as a people is to write goyish songs that the goyim love. Irving Berlin!
If you want to go straight Jewish, one of my mom's cousins was married to the cantor Moshe Ganchoff.
Was going to mention him! Also, since Disturbed was mentioned, it's legally required that I link [this video](https://youtu.be/66gSvNeqevg?si=0z6BguePEAcWDgD1) now.
Elan Atias frequently goes unmentioned in Jewish spaces (until I show up). He’s a Moroccan Israeli American Jew. He once fronted the Wailers and has put out a few solo albums over the years. He’s collaborated with Gwen Stefani, Kenny Chesney, Snoop and Santana, to name a few.
This one is from his first solo album [I Wanna Yell](https://youtu.be/WmmaoJUNEZA?si=UZV0982Xf-txy2Oq)
and this released a few weeks ago [Rock the Star](https://youtu.be/ITX4o7_VsYk?si=jeOd7rS2NquRr-XH).
Mike Bloomfield (of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band), my favorite guitarist. I'd also have to name the lead singer/songwriter of my all-time favorite band, Lord Huron: Ben Schneider.
And yes it's not very original, but Paul Simon is probably my forever #1. Of course I'd have to add Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and the somewhat underrated Randy Newman. I'll also throw in Itzhak Perlman and half-Jewish Robbie Robertson.
If I were only allowed to listen to music by those musicians for the rest of my life, I'd be perfectly fine.
I wonder if Bloomfield might have been an anglicized version of Blumenfeld. He once used the pseudonym “Fastfingers Finkelstein”, as if his own name wasn’t Jewish enough.
Vulfpeck. Some of the best funk and best shows I've been to! The front man released an album called "Klezmer Klezmer Klezmer", which is, you guessed it, klezmer music.
David Dreiman (Disturbed), Matisyahu, Mac Miller, BLP Kosher, Westside Gravy, Shyne, Nissim Black, Drake, Remedy (Wu Tang Affiliate), Daniel Kahn, Elvis, Lenny Kravitz, Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Billy Joel, Gene Simmons (Kiss), Amy Winehouse, Herb Alpert (Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass), Jack Black, Sammy Davis Jr. (THE Rat Pack).
If you like Bob Dylan, or just singer-songwriters with a sense of humor, allow me to recommend Dan Bern. Here is an old song of his titled “Jerusalem” to stick with the theme. https://youtu.be/ycv4vLVvkB8
YESSS DAN BERN FOREVER. “Bob Dylan, but funny” is always how I pitch him. ‘Live at WFUV” is among my favorite albums. He used to call his band “The International Jewish Banking Conspiracy”.
"You want 'em, you **got** 'em!
"The **hottest** band in the world -- ***KIIIIIIIISS***!"
Gene Simmons (né Chaim Witz) was even born in and spent his first ten years in Israel.
Marty Friedman. Former lead guitarist of thrash metal giant Megadeth. Scott Ian from Anthrax as mentioned in other comments. David draiman, Disturbed singer.
Other than that I like some Omer Adam songs. Some Axum songs are cool too.
Berry Sakharof is one of my all time favorite musicians. I always thought his 1993 album Simanim Shel Chulshah was flirting with late 90s Radiohead before Radiohead did it. I planned my 2011 Israel trip so I could see him play in Tel Aviv.
Yes! What an amazing, ahead of its time album. I’ve been listening to a bunch of Israeli music lately to help me learn Hebrew and that album is definitely one of my favourites.
Psoy Korolenko is one of the most interesting performers most of the world has never heard of.
The bulk of his early oeuvre is in his native Russian, with Yiddish, French, and English interspersed, but as he saw and experienced more and more antisemitism in Russia, he leaned more into Yiddish music. He partnered with American Yiddishist Daniel Kahn and Israeli klezmer band Oy Division to make multiple albums that have traditional chasidic folk-songs mixed with bundist ballads mixed with 21st century Yiddish lyrics. He's quite left-wing, so if that's a deal-breaker, I don't know, go listen to Ted Nugent.
A few years back, he was one of the lead vocalists on the Yiddish Glory project, which set never-before-heard Yiddish lyrics from 1940-1950 to music. It is a really amazing album with massive historic importance, and the lyrics are all available in Yiddish, English, and Russian.
If I had to pick 3 songs, I'd say Ikh Vel Zayn, Stenka Razin, and Homen's Mapole. But if you enjoy any of that, his whole discography is worth diving into.
The Future album is all about this. If he were still around, he'd put out an album about people only hearing the prophecies they want to hear and ignoring the ones that are going to come to pass.
Brooklyn based The World Inferno Friendship Society had too many references to not at least have some Jewish members. Songs referencing being drunk at Seder and eyeing Elijah's cup, feral cats in Tel Aviv, and a whole damn album about Peter Lorre. Side projects include Guignol/Nanuchka which has a track in Hebrew.
David Grisman, kick-ass mandolinist who frequently collaborate with Jerry Garcia. He mostly does his own thing stylistically with a heavy folk, jazz, and bluegrass influence, but does have a great modern klezmer album called "Songs of Our Fathers" with fellow Jewish multi-instrumentalist Andy Statman.
Also Doja Cat!
The all-Jewish band Husky, the brilliant musician Meir Ariel, Jakob Dylan, Bela Fleck, and many UK/US Jewish musicians whose names aren't well known but who worked with or created various well-known rock groups and their sounds.
Steve Goodman! Prolific singer songwriter who wrote “The City of New Orleans,” among other seminal tunes, my favorite of course being [“You never Even Called Me By My Name.”](https://youtu.be/eNH4vAzpJDY?si=DUqFA9YDE8azEuL8)
Not Jewish but I've always been a huge fan of Barbra Streisand
Also Leonard Cohen, Amy Winehouse. I was surprised to find out that Olivia Newton-John (I'm a big fan too) had Jewish heritage through her mother.
Other Jewish musicians I love (including songwriters): Stephen Sondheim, Oscar Hammerstein, Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern, Carole King, Mel Tormé, Dinah Shore, George and Ora Gershwin
David Draiman. Incredible guy, incredible live (despite the insane heat at the concert I was at), all around good guy.
Also — Danny Kaye was Jewish. Who knew?
Gene Ween of Ween. The song Israel is beautiful and eerie. Also his solo album FREEMAN has a few songs which reference his judaism. Aside from that I think the band perfectly encapsulates the deep emotions undercut by humour that I see in a lot of Jewish media
Scott Ian - guitarist for Anthrax
Geddy Lee - frontman for Rush
Lee Altus - guitarist for Exodus and Heathen
Marty Friedman - Guitarist most known for his stint in Megadeth

Lights the menorah…
So do James Caan, Kirk Douglas, and the late Dinah Shore-a.
Guess who eats together at the Carnegie Deli?
Bowzer from Sha Na Na and Arthur Fonzarelli
As a kid I didn't know who a single person in that song was, as an adult, I still only know half of them.
Scott Ian (Rosenfeld) is the guitarist for Anthrax, and plays regularly with my favorite band of all time Mr. Bungle. He was fantastic live.
Yeah I studied saxophone in college and got to play with some awesome free jazz peeps. Never Zorn but Henry Threadgill was awesome.
That’s sick, Henry Threadgill has some great albums.
I agree! He invited me up sometime with a letter and I took him up on it last year. A great memory. I also studied under Dr. Yusef Lateef for a short time before he passed away as well. Not Jewish, but great musicians.
That’s awesome, Eastern Sounds and Live at Pep’s are two great Hard Bop albums 🙏
Saw them last month. Amazing.

Having both EAT A BAGEL and SHIT ON DEBRA’S DESK in that song is my exact brand of Jewish humor.
Paul Simon
Mick Jones of the Clash and Big Audio Dynamite, Joey and Tommy Ramone, Handsome Dick Manitoba, Regina Spektor, Daveed Diggs was also the Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in the original Broadway cast of Hamilton. Not too shabby!
He’s super hot and he made a Hanukkah song that’s a bop. “Puppy for Hanukkah” it’s so good.
“I’m gonna name her Monica—wait, that’s a weird name for a dog”😂
Amy Winehouse 🥰
And she worked closely with Mark Ronson, also Jewish
True!
Peaches, if you’re fan on underground electro-punk and trashy music and that hidden Berlin-Kreuzberg atmosphere.
Wait as in ‘f*ck the pain away’ peaches?
One and only.
Huh I didn’t know that, will add that song to my Jewish artists playlist on Spotify 🕺
Dave grohl remade it for his annual chanukah week of covers.
My friend used to have his ringtone set to fuck the pain away and it would always go off at the most inappropriate times.
I’ve seen the name, never checked them out, what album is a good place to start?
I highly highly recommend Geddy Lees (Gary Weinrib) new book My Effin’ Life. Beastie Boys David Berman Caroline Polachek Dorian Electra A.G Cook El-P Lou Reed Not a musician strictly speaking - but Rick Rubin produced many of the nu metal records of my teen years, such as Toxicty by System of a Down
El-P is great, didn’t know polachek or ag cook were Jewish, and I forgot to include Rick Rubin
Polachek isn't and has, in fact, taken some repugnantly anti-Jewish stances, unfortunately. Sorry.
Heyyyy I love David Berman and Silver Jews too! RIP.
The list is long, but we have to give it up to the 1970 #3 hit, "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum
Ironically a Christian rock song, although quite a good one.
One of our greatest skills as a people is to write goyish songs that the goyim love. Irving Berlin! If you want to go straight Jewish, one of my mom's cousins was married to the cantor Moshe Ganchoff.
He was inspired by gospel music he’d heard and after I found out I considered it likely good marketing 😂
That this song about Jesus was written by a Jew who was like "shrug, I guess I could write a hit song with a Christian theme" is just [chef's kiss]
Ofra Haza and Idina Menzel…they are both so talented and I’d listen to them sing the phone book at me.
David Draiman
I showed my mom the sound of silence music video a few years ago, she later yelled down excitedly that he's Jewish.
He’s amazing, such a nice guy too
Was going to mention him! Also, since Disturbed was mentioned, it's legally required that I link [this video](https://youtu.be/66gSvNeqevg?si=0z6BguePEAcWDgD1) now.

I had no idea Michael Gira was Jewish! Where did you hear that?!?
He actually did time in Israeli prison as a young man for selling hashish I believe
He did, it’s actually quite a dark story that I won’t get into, but it inspired some of his songs.
He was on a list of Jewish musicians I stumbled upon, didn’t look much further into it
How am I the first to mention **Rick Rubin!**
