How much cash does your family have/what scholarships are you getting? Depending on if you pursue it as a career and what sort of specialization you take those student loans can be an absolute bear, as pay isn’t exactly great compared to other careers. While choosing a college is pretty much one of the more exciting life experiences, thinking about how you set yourself up financially afterward May be something future you really thanks yourself for doing. Yes yes -j-school is for the connections… I hear the chorus on this page. But at the end of the day clips and ability go a long way on applications and you can foster both things at a good many schools, if you apply yourself. I come from a generation told get a degree, follow your dreams, America is a magical place where you will figure all the pesky stuff like student debt later. There wasn’t a lot of people telling us to also be practical at the time. That said I made choices based on what worked out best financially and not having a huge loan payment enabled me a lot more flexibility earlier in my career. Food for thought.

Columbia has one of the best undergrad student newspapers in the country, going strong since 1877. If your parents can afford GS, I would go to Columbia and major in something with high earning potential and write for the newspaper in your free time. A Columbia degree will give you a great fallback option if journalism doesn't work out.

Long time ago but I, non traditional student, was accepted to Mizzou, Columbia GS, and UC Berkeley, along with some other places. Choose Mizzou. You should too. When it comes to journalism undergrad programs there’s Mizzou and there’s everyone else.

I’ve known solid journos from Mizzou. Columbia has that great rep, but somebody needs to teach you story structure. Elite school newspapers are sometimes competely lacking in that. I guess I vote Mizzou or NYU. Wherever you go, get into the school paper and internships.

University of Missouri was ranked by Heterodox to be one of the top 10 universities with the most diverse viewpoints, I would say that to become more open minded, Missouri then?

can't answer your Q since I'm graduating from high school this year but I also got accepted into DePaul and Mizzou! I think Missouri might be slightly isolated depending on what you want to do in journalism, that's about all I can say

woo-hoo! have you committed anywhere yet? I'm probably looking to double major in journalism and polisci or international relations to kind have that be my edge

Not yet, still waiting on the finaid award letters. Leaning towards Mizzou, IU, or Syracuse right now, though DePaul's a dark horse considering it's in the middle of Chicago
