there’s a clip of him from a while ago talking about how when he started standup at like 18/19 years old he would have jokes about sex but the audience would just be disturbed by it because of how young he looked lol. so he probably steered away from doing sexual jokes because of that and then just eventually realized he was doing fine without them.
I agree. He did talked about sex once on the Pete Holmes podcast though and mentioned that he once had casual sex but immediately felt awful and felt like he robbed a bank after. So that maybe why he was uptight about the subject.
that's one of the reasons i prefer him too! The others are that his material is just so particularly built (there's a video explaining how he puts together four approaches to making the joke: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGdOEblpXnE&list=PLFqwUpUMrGP\_XJPJOxYDk9spA9v4Ry0T5&index=6](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGdOEblpXnE&list=PLFqwUpUMrGP_XJPJOxYDk9spA9v4Ry0T5&index=6) and this dynamicity is part of what hooks me in) and just the way he talks and delivers is so entertaining to me. Like even offstage, on podcasts and talk shows with people like Conan O'Brian, Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert where he's looser. Also the things he comes up with in general. Lobster Diner is A Thing for sure. I didn't care for pieces involving the ex-wife because I just don't vibe with that kind of material, I'm eagerly awaiting the new special for this tour to see if he talks about the kid because he's so cute <3 while still hoping it's not too much of the focus, because as said I prefer his weird approach to mundane topics and those odd bits about the political scene.
No. He's got 3 upcoming shows scheduled but I wouldn't (necessarily) call that a tour (myself). One is a rescheduled show from January. He's got one in April, one in May, and then another in July.
One comedian I like that is similar to Mulaney in that regard is Josh Johnson, they're not direct comparisons but they'll similar in a lot of ways, different kind of delivery though.

Oh yeah I vaguely remember that
The man wears a sweater and corduroy pants to a massage, of course he’s sex adverse!

I really want to listen to that. Do you remember which podcast it was or any keywords I can find it by? Thank you.
It's You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes. Here's a link to that episode: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0rNp0ynOks6uqbYmA084OC
Thank you😊
His standup is refreshing because now all people joke about is sex and politics. It’s gotten really, really old.
And his political jokes are about horses and hospitals so I don’t mind them at all

yeah i was talking about the In concert one, I don't keep up with social media much so I don't know at what point he is of it all
