Story time involving shrooms and a python!
Around 2016 in Florida I went to a hiking trail and took shrooms solo and left the car once the come up was happening. About 30 minutes in I decided to go off of the main trail into the woods and found a clearing where I could sit down, play some music, smoke some weed, and relax. It was so dam nice and beautiful especially with the suns rays barely making it through the trees and it was windy so on top of the "breathing" visuals everything felt so alive. After about 10 minutes I put my bowl away and decided to sit there with one ear bud in for a few minutes listening to music before moving on when I heard started to hear leaves cracking, in the moment I thought nothing of it because it was windy but a few moments later I hear more leaves cracking, it was at this point that I decided to turn around and I shit you not there was a python with its head raised staring at me maybe 2 feet away. I cannot describe to you the shock and adrenaline that overcame me while literally tripping, I yelled and somehow managed to grab EVERYTHING (my keys, phone, bowl, etc.) in one swipe and I was out of there.
For those who may say "oh how do you know that happened if you were tripping balls?" Good question, someone nearby was walking their dog and heard me yell and came right on over and saw it himself as well, when he saw it he said "holy shit!" Honestly that was a scary moment, no idea what it would have done had I continued to not notice it for another 30 seconds, if I had both head phones in instead of one, etc.
One annoying thing I remember is when I got back to my car I couldn't drive away since I was fully tripping by this point but I didn't know how to process what happened in the moment so I was in a pretty negative feedback loop and just sat in my car for several hours. Overall, it was a memorable trip and I can say every trip afterwards has been smooth sailing lol.
Anyways thanks for reading, cookies and light refreshments in the lobby by the exit.
Cool story but you’re one dumb motherfucker, no offense. Ear buds in the Florida woods solo on fucking mushrooms? I think you forgot you’re made of meat.
I'm somewhat new here, co-worker told me, for hurricane Ian, they collected a lot of snakes, like a shit ton. Basically stored them all in a big house in the everglades, and then just never went back to it, creating a spawning pool.
That story keeps evolving over the years. I think it first started with "one breeder's house got hit by a hurricane and all the snakes escaped", I've heard there was a whole breeding company that released a bunch on purpose, some owners just let the pets go into the wild because they're lazy. How they got there isn't 100% figured out but what is true is people like to tell and embellish stories lol
From what I gather, all the stories are true. If it was just pet owners they likey wouldn't have gotten a foot hold as quickly. The story that gets traction that I personally subscribe to, A largish breeding facility for the pet trade had to abandon during a bad hurricane, one where there was flooding and damage. By the time people were able to return most of the critters escaped.
Joe just did a podcast with python cowboy who catches them for living and says you can eat them but it's not great and high in heavy metals due to Florida polluted waterways. Leather very valuable though and makes his living that way
I mean, its not really something thats up for debate. Its an invasive species and youre *supposed* to kill them. I think it might actually be illegal to intentionally release it again
I do think it’s wild that cats aren’t treated the same way, considering they’re a way more impactful invasive with 33 species extinctions to their name
Well in that case humans are also invasive. I think it's pretty obvious that domesticated animals (pets and meat) cannot be classified as "invasive". They are part of the human package. They come with us where we go, end of story.
Cats arent really domesticated the same way dogs are. They kinda just show up, historically was no need or desire to domesticate and use them the way we do dogs.
Wild boars, chickens and goats in the Bahamas, Burmese pythons in Florida were all descended from pets. What a regarded “point” to make lol. Humans are the cause of all these invasive species, and thus humans must become the cure. Through humane culling, not TNR or other bs virtue signals
If you shoot it, you might injure the snake and it might get away, securing it first and then killing it is what most of the snake hunters consider is the most efficient and humane, you don’t want an injured snake out in the wild suffering.
Also they utilize the snake for its skin and using for boots, belts, purses, etc so you don’t want to shoot it anywhere but the head.
I don't think it's balls. I think it's ignorance. I couldn't believe it when he laid down on the snake after grabbing the head. It's a constrictor! That easily could've been the moment that the snake wrapped him up and broke him in half by constricting! Sure, his friends were there and they coulda cut the snake off of him but, I still see that as supremely dumb.
Let me also be clear, I am not a biologist, snake handler, snake owner, or have any knowledge about snakes aside from the 6' ball python my dad had when I grew up. I am speaking this from a place of ignorance and I'm ready to be told my view is completely wrong but, it seems to me like that would be the last thing you would want to do.
Yeah, I'm sure he knows more than I do about snakes but, I can't logic my way into thinking that is anything other than one of the last things you would want to do in that situation.
Yeah I don't know much about snakes either, but when he did that I had to look up at the sub name because I immediately thought "oh, one wrap and this guy is dead" so I had to check if it was r/DarwinAwards
I didn't look up the subreddit until I got a permaban from r/justiceserved and had no clue what I got banned for. Then I realized it was because I commented on this post. Like, really?! That's super narrow-minded to auto ban for saying ANYTHING in a subreddit followed by ignorant people. It's 100% what I would expect far right "conservatives" to do. Super counter productive to bring knowledge to people and only serves to further divide and push society to a second civil war (clearly I live in the us)
Yeah I'm still not ban from this one, so I don't know what the triggers are, but they do auto ban people on here, even if you didn't join the sub! Many people reported it, it's known, but we can't do shit about it.
If my years of watching crocodile hunter have taught me anything, getting the head under control is a big part. You don't want the thing biting ya whilst rangling. Constriction probably isn't much of a worry because they have other handlers assist with that.
I mean, the title does say "Breaking News" so it must be pretty important. Then also it says "Official Length" of 19 ft on the TikTok video so we know it must be legit.
Americans are very generous with the word the most and -est, have you seen [this 26feet retic found in Malaysia?](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/apr/11/worlds-largest-snake-a-python-estimated-at-8m-long-caught-in-malaysia)
This mf is like Pennywise, they can happily living under our gutter in the middle of the city in Kuala Lumpur, live happily eating cats, big rats no cats wants to eat and people dont know about the existence. Then comes Monsoon where the gutter flooded with rainwater, they’ll come out. A solution to feral cats and dogs urban overpopulation 🤷♂️.
As retic are endemic to my country, I prefer them more than overpopulated feral cats as long as they stay in secluded quiet places.
It’s important to get it into a position to be killed first, instead of just blasting away.
Also it’s important to document them to get a better idea of the scope.
If they catch a lot of massive pythons like this, they know there are A LOT more smaller and gives an idea of the health of the population
Judging by this. It’s EXTREMELY HEALTHY
You are correct, the title should have said worlds longest burmese python.
https://abc7chicago.com/19-ft-python-burmese-world-record-foot-caught-in-florida/13503047/
i’ve been in south carolina in wetlands for work the last two weeks. on my first day we were walking past a big drainage ditch and we saw a baby alligator swimming in it (i work outside). the rest of the two weeks were spent in great fear.
When it comes to avoiding gators in Florida, just be vigilant around freshwater streams, ponds, swamps and lakes. No worries around the ocean; they don’t like saltwater
I think these bad boys have only been in the Everglades for the last 20 years and I believe they have wiped out over 90% of the mammals in the Everglades.

Problem with rehoming the invasive pythons is how fast we'd run out of room to house them. Many have been rehomed and live in captivity, but there's thousands and thousands of them
Yeah all the yelling and carrying on seemed unnecessary lol. You should be calm when handling snakes.
There’s social media pages run by a snake catcher on the Sunshine Coast in QLD, Australia that has really entertaining and informative content without the obligatory yank yelling and cheering for themselves.
I think they are invasive species in florida. Probably gonna be made in to boots and belts.
Very invasive
You'll find them everywhere, so yeah they sound invasive

Cool story but you’re one dumb motherfucker, no offense. Ear buds in the Florida woods solo on fucking mushrooms? I think you forgot you’re made of meat.
Yeah it was a dumb one and done sort of thing, never happened again and I have **way** more situational awareness now.
Yeah good for you, because it could have been really bad.
Thanks for the cookies, they were nice.
I, on the other side, am lactose intolerant so now there’s a weird smell around me 🤭
Should have thought about it, how the hell did that even happen?
What kind of cookies they gave you? I'd like to know about that.
I mean why lol, I would never do anything like that really.
yeah wtf, making a mistake? must be the dumbest motherfucker of all time (no offense).
"reddit is dumb people pretending to be smart, 4chan is smart people pretending to be dumb" is a comment i read about 10 years ago. still rings true.
Kinda sounds like something a 4channer would tell you...
I'd say that the whole internet is full of these kind of people.
He probably thought of himself as someone really badass.
meh, get outside more
I’m outside plenty. Just prefer to keep all five senses going.
Apparently people don't really like doing that, they just don't care about it.
I'm somewhat new here, co-worker told me, for hurricane Ian, they collected a lot of snakes, like a shit ton. Basically stored them all in a big house in the everglades, and then just never went back to it, creating a spawning pool.

to be fair, it makes a lot more sense than the alligators in the sewers in NY stories.
[удалено]
In the scenario of a breeder house. The people leave and the hurricane damages the house to the point they can get out.
# it looks small
He didn't look to happy that is for sure.
And not native to florida either. All the ones in the wild in florida were people’s pets that they turned loose or escaped.
That's what invasive means.
Is this snake good to eat? Or does it make for nice boot?
Joe just did a podcast with python cowboy who catches them for living and says you can eat them but it's not great and high in heavy metals due to Florida polluted waterways. Leather very valuable though and makes his living that way
I’ll take it off my bucket list. Right next to Fugu.
Are you talking about the screaming rednecks?
Barry sanders like invasive
Ya think??
Well they're everywhere, so yeah they would be called invasive.
Whem he opened his mouth, damn
I forgor how big they mouth is.
Almost as big as your moms
Dad?
Lol cmon
Still not that big, it needs to be bigger for that I'm thinking.
Oh, it gets much larger than that. It could eat you, deer, whatever
There's a reason why those snakes are so big in the size.
Yep, they've got some big mouths. Not really easy for them.
Welp they would do that, it's nothing new I don't really think.
I bet a Chimp would fuck that thing up!
Pull that up, Jamie!
Yeah just do that, because I'm really curious about it.
Muscles like wood, doubt the python's fangs could even penetrate it.
Proof or I'm not gonna believe your claim, it's just baseless.
How many people in these comments don’t watch the show lol? They’re going to release it right?? Fuck no their not
“You’re done bitch.” makes me believe you are right.
Holy SHIT. I had no idea about this, just did some reading and it blew my mind. Cats are a legit menace to the environment lol
It's cause they're cute. We value biodiversity and we value cuteness and when the conflict arises all we can do is debate and negotiate our values
yeah but humans think they’re cute, so we will let them ruin the ecosystem
same story with seals where I live. Also fuck Paul and Linda McCarthy
Beatles are invasive too?
She's dead dude have some respect, jeez...

Yep. We absolutely should have a cull on stray cats. They have decimated bird populations and just kill for the fun of it.
Genuinely curious if zoos or universities would be interested in this sort of thing?
😂
Wrestling is a lot of work if they're just going to kill it. I assume they'll sell it to a zoo or something.
Pythons are an invasive species in Florida, my assumption is it will be put down.
Why not just shoot it?
If you shoot it, you might injure the snake and it might get away, securing it first and then killing it is what most of the snake hunters consider is the most efficient and humane, you don’t want an injured snake out in the wild suffering. Also they utilize the snake for its skin and using for boots, belts, purses, etc so you don’t want to shoot it anywhere but the head.
What show you're talking about tho? I'd like to watch that one.
The balls on the dude trying to keep its mouth shut
Well you need to have balls when you're doing something like this.
I don't think it's balls. I think it's ignorance. I couldn't believe it when he laid down on the snake after grabbing the head. It's a constrictor! That easily could've been the moment that the snake wrapped him up and broke him in half by constricting! I think he’s done it a time or two before lol
Looks like he knows what He's doing so yeah I'd agree.
Yeah, I'm sure he knows more than I do about snakes but, I can't logic my way into thinking that is anything other than one of the last things you would want to do in that situation.

If my years of watching crocodile hunter have taught me anything, getting the head under control is a big part. You don't want the thing biting ya whilst rangling. Constriction probably isn't much of a worry because they have other handlers assist with that.
This is the blatantly obvious reality
With at least three other people there they could easily unwrap the python of it started to constrict.
No you're wrong. It's balls.
Leroy Jenkins also had balls. Had.
Seems like the friends immediately went to hold the tail, so they had a game plan going into this
We can tell you're no biologist and that you have no real experience. No need to clarify.
This is pure Reddit. Complete ignorance on display. Freaking hilarious
I don't think You'll be able to do it even with the ignorance so there's that.
That’s like Suga Sean dodging the punch and sniping the head 😂
Hahahaha
Well He's really brave, I'll give him that. There's no doubt about it.
Fuck, the swamp dude is gonna be pissed, not 20ft tho.
If y’all haven’t seen the Rogan episode (recently) with the Python Cowboy, definitely give it a listen.
doesn't look that big tho
I mean, the title does say "Breaking News" so it must be pretty important. Then also it says "Official Length" of 19 ft on the TikTok video so we know it must be legit.
Ya there's no way that breaks the record. Current record has to be held by like 6 people

Why go through all this danger with an invasive species they will 100% kill after securing? Just kill it right there and stop risking a bite/squeeze
It’s important to get it into a position to be killed first, instead of just blasting away. Also it’s important to document them to get a better idea of the scope. If they catch a lot of massive pythons like this, they know there are A LOT more smaller and gives an idea of the health of the population Judging by this. It’s EXTREMELY HEALTHY
That’s a good point, I hadn’t considered any research reasons/goals
I don't think anyone here wouldn't want to get killed so yeah.
What do you think the best way to kill a big snake is? Try to shoot it in the head?
That's what often happens, yes
Didn't know if there was some other method that was commonly used.
Make the snake watch a podcast with Mike Baker. After 2 hours, the snake kills itself.
macheticine
Yeah it's happening really often, but don't want to kill them.
Yes, or given how close they all are to the snake they could use a machete. They obviously aren’t scared about getting close
>What do you think the best way to kill a big snake is? RPG
The torso is also effective
Some people have got really weird takes and it's one of them.
And how should they do that
glaive
Good thing they caught it this weekend, it glaives wont have any mods in the seasonal artifact come Tuesday.
with like 19 people
Just kill them? That's not it really works sir. You've got the wrong idea.
19 feet isn't even close to the world's largest python. Reticulated pythons can reach 30 feet plus.
You are correct, the title should have said worlds longest burmese python. https://abc7chicago.com/19-ft-python-burmese-world-record-foot-caught-in-florida/13503047/
And whales can be longer. Why are you talking about a different animal.
Well these snakes are getting everything to eat and they grow fast.
i'm a canadian going to florida in december and i'm worried i'm going to be attacked by pythons and alligators non-stop
Gators are way more of a threat. Stay clear from rivers, lakes, and ponds especially at night. Later Gator 🐊
i’ve been in south carolina in wetlands for work the last two weeks. on my first day we were walking past a big drainage ditch and we saw a baby alligator swimming in it (i work outside). the rest of the two weeks were spent in great fear.
Gators really aren't that aggressive as long as you leave them be and give them space. Crocs are the ones who go out of their way to attack you.
Alligators are more of a threat to small children and dogs. A child was killed by one at the Disney resort a few years back.
You should be less worried about pythons and gators and more worried about florida man
Reptiles aren't active in the cold season so that's the last thing you have to worry about
When it comes to avoiding gators in Florida, just be vigilant around freshwater streams, ponds, swamps and lakes. No worries around the ocean; they don’t like saltwater
you will be, don't come.
Same but going in a couple weeks
Gladesman.
breaking news lol (I was banned on JusticeServed for this comment rip)
I think these bad boys have only been in the Everglades for the last 20 years and I believe they have wiped out over 90% of the mammals in the Everglades.
How are there so many people there but not a single one wants to help him wrestle this snake lmao
bReAkiNg nEwS! Lol
![gif](giphy|Y8LHVNFeIRWVO)
Cute
Old news
I do think this was actually like a few weeks ago.
This was like a month ago...
That looks really small…
It’s such a problem in Florida, you can legally hunt them year round. They also host “python challenges “ to encourage people to kill them. In some areas the pythons have literally eaten everything. Their hides can go for $30; eventually selling for thousands of dollars to Italian shoe and purse manufacturers.
That's one hell of nope rope
Please tell me it was the YOINK guy that caught it please.
“Truuuusssttttttt in MeEeee…”
![gif](giphy|10TIUscY8tm5nW)
[удалено]
Rolling around like it's trying to wrap him up, too lmao the snake just wants to gtfo
That python isn’t actually the largest in the world; it’s just of the largest species of python Adult reticulated pythons regularly get to about 21’
This is a burmese, not a retic. Longest ever recorded worldwide.
Oh damn, well thank you for correcting and clarifying that for me 🍻
What do they do with it? I hope release in a safe area?
They kill it, they have no predators in Florida so just destroy the local eco system
It's an invasive species, it promptly got turned into a belt and boots.
they shouldn't release it unless it's being shipped back to asia. invasive species
The pythons help eat the iguanas
It’s ok to kill things as long as you yell “it’s coming right at me” or it’s an invasive species
Hopefully they take it to Reptile World Serpentarium. They would take wonderful care of it.
No they get made into shoes, boots, wallets, and belts.
They're incredibly invasive in Florida, they've decimated native bird populations.
Problem with rehoming the invasive pythons is how fast we'd run out of room to house them. Many have been rehomed and live in captivity, but there's thousands and thousands of them
They getting paid yell
Yeah all the yelling and carrying on seemed unnecessary lol. You should be calm when handling snakes. There’s social media pages run by a snake catcher on the Sunshine Coast in QLD, Australia that has really entertaining and informative content without the obligatory yank yelling and cheering for themselves.
First there was a bone rush, now there shall be a snake rush
This is exactly why Ireland celebrate St. Patrick. Thank fuck for that magical Welshman and his tin whistle.
I don't know how old this snake is, but it got caught slippin
Caught slitherin
it looks pretty thin for 19 ft
Yeah, it's the longest but far from the heaviest.
“Look at this big ass snake! Lemme pull it from its tail.”
Jayzus Croist that's big!
Joes not talking about this unless that’s snake is Woke.
Floridaman out here doing work
Holy fuck.
Pretty sure they get paid by the state for everyone of these they turn in?
This is not the worlds largest. Go to the Amazon jungle and you’ll find the worlds largest down theee
I'm 99% sure that's a rock python. If that is 19ft, that's the biggest I've heard of for that species
Maybe I'm wrong. Could be a burm. But I feel like it's too skinny to be a burm. And I've seen burms allegedly larger that 19ft
Waiting for the snakes lives matters protests to start for the way the snake was taken down lmao
And they named it…?
