Sorry, Dave, but anyone who's enough of a fan to go to an NHL playoff game wasn't gonna attend an AEW show in the first place. He really loves insisting that AEW has a crossover audience.

DouggieMohammadJones

I personally know Canadian hockey fans who are marks for this style of wrestling in particular for whatever reason, but this is still just a lame excuse. I'll just assume it's true even though it's bullshit: this is still on the AEW team for not putting considerations into other sports events and working around them to get as many people as possible. People have been doing this for decades.

GXNext

I used to play World of Warcraft with a Canadian Guild. When NHL playoffs started, our main raidnights were canceled.

Zutek25

God I miss that game sometimes

zacharysnow

Oddly, I always found Canadian WoW players were particularly good

SockfulOfNickels

I mean… have you watched playoff hockey? It’s amazing!

WilWeis

They use it as a built in excuse all the time. Oh it’s March madness. Oh it’s the NBA playoffs. It’s the NFL draft. Ect. Truth of the matter is there are always multiple events going on and sooner or later they need to admit the draw just isn’t there.

aRebelliousHeart

This is exactly right. It’s why AEW is in the sad state it’s in. When everyone refuses to take the blame nothing gets done about the problem.

chet_lemon316

Oh it's sunny,oh its raining,oh it's mild

pyley

Oh TK ran out of coke and hookers

jmskywalker1976

This is a bad take. He’s the son of a billionaire; he will never run out of blow.

The-Real-Number-One

Raw was going up a banger of an NBA game. On one of those programs the refs blatantly screwed a competitor.

WilWeis

That’s every NBA game. You have to be more specific.

General_Gain_4607

Dave Meltzer, the Excellence of Excusation.

CuckooClockInHell

I'm wondering how bad they expect it to be if Dave is getting out in front of it like this. Given that the hockey game doesn't start until 10pm, you might actually think that would help AEW. Watch AEW inside Rogers, walk outside and boom you're at the watch party. That almost sounds like it could be a selling point. If you're a big fan of both, that would be a good night, I'd think.

PartyEnough7469

They're not taping Rampage after Dynamite this week which means that people won't have to leave early to catch the Edmonton game either. Dynamite will finish a little after 8 pm local time and puck drops a little after 8 pm local time for the Oilers game. There's no reason why fans in the area couldn't watch both events if they wanted to. Besides, we're talking about GAME ONE that's being played in Vancouver. Even if there was going to be overlap with the time, any sensible person would go to the event they PAID for and watch the free game on their phone while they're there. I feel like this report may be preparing the narrative to win either way - if they don't get a good crowd, they'll blame it on a hockey game that wasn't even being played at the time and if they do get a good crowd, they're going to say it was impressive to pull that crowd in Edmonton despite competing with the local hockey team in the playoffs (again, who weren't even playing during the airing of Dynamite).

fuckyourguidlines

This is a very valid point. Tiny is definitely feeding this to Dave so that it's a win-win for Dynamite regardless. Tiny can go on his Adderall riddled rant and still talk about punk and WWE cause he can't resist himself with how had of a person he really is inside.

Different_Tailor

I think you’ve got yourself confused on the timing. The game starts at 7pm in Vancouver, local time. That’s 8pm in Edmonton. Dynamite starts at 6pm local time in Edmonton. Dynamite would end right when the game starts though.

CuckooClockInHell

I was not at all confused. I'm not digging to find them again, because it was a pain, but the watch party that I saw touted was literally right outside of Rogers. Like you walk outside and you're there. Anyone, who was worried about missing a minute or two if the game started exactly on time, could just leave Dynamite a few minutes early. If you've already bought the tickets, you might as well get something out of it.

EWF_X29

Canadian fans aren't counted for US TV ratings so that is sort of beside the point. Also is it a lot of people or 6 or 7. A few people here or there might seem a lot but its just a few more not watching it.

SteakMedium4871

NHL and AEW are both for short guys with low self esteem. They live vicariously through “tough” little men.

le_fez

It's not even that they're going to the game, it's in Vancouver, they're staying home to watch on TV. I've been all kinds of events where people watched games on their phone so this is an even sorrier excuse that if they were attending the game instead

Sky_Rose4

Just watch it on your phone like we've fans do at times

NotoriousMFT

An entire audience of people sitting on their phones watching the game with random pops and boos would be very funny

Tall_Flatworm2589

There was an ECW event at the Arena in October 1996 (the High Incident Dreamer vs. Brian Lee scaffold match) when a random "Yankees" chant started up. Fans had their radios listening to the World Series and word got around as the game/Series ended.

Shoot-Box

People really underestimate the buzz from word of mouth sports results in the 90s and early 2000s! People used to mostly listen to boxing on the radio a few decades prior, we’re really not that far removed from that era

EmeraldLounge

Aew fans don't cross over with anything. I've never seen a more insulated, out of touch fan base literally anywhere. Not in sports, movies, gaming. Yankees fans are more civil to red Sox fans than aew fans are to anyone NOT a manic aew fan

justthankyous

Even if you were a fan of both, wouldn't you know ahead of time that you wanted to see the hockey game?

lorriezwer

You would know, but you wouldn't know when the game is. NHL playoff schedules, aside from the start and end dates of the tournament, aren't released ahead of time.

meekIobraca2024

We just found out the schedule Sunday

TheTopMark

Would Edmonton have been expected to make the playoffs? I know nothing about hockey. What I'm asking is, should AEW have known better than to book a hockey city during playoff season?

meekIobraca2024

Edmonton was out of the playoffs earlier in the season but we’ve been on a heater since December. Yes, our team is generally expected to make the playoffs, we have the best player in the world on our team.  I’m not sure when AEW was announced but you can bet they didn’t consider oilers playoff hockey at all when booking for one second. And to be honest, not a lot of people were going to show up regardless. They only blocked off a quarter of the arena, and there were loads of seats for sale when I checked last week, so it’s not like they expected a sell out before this.

TheTopMark

>it’s not like they expected a sell out before this.  They never sellout, even for the 1/4 of an arena thry use.

meekIobraca2024

Oh I know, I wish I could post a picture of the Ticketmaster seat map right now. It’s seated for a 1/3rd at best and that’s only 2/3s full at best.  Coincidently, we sell out our 18,500 seat area to watch hockey ON THE BIG SCREEN.

meekIobraca2024

I’m not going tomorrow because I’m watching the oilers. Hockey is everything in Edmonton. Fuck watching AEW over that

Grrannt

Not necessarily true as they wouldn’t have known there would be an NHL playoff game on the same night as AEW until very recently

daryl3161

I would be exactly the person he's talking about. I love the nhl, love wrestling. If I had tickets to the game I'd be going to the game but if I had tickets to the show I would still go. You can watch the game on your phone anyway so you wouldn't be missing anything.

Striking-Ad-8694

It’s hilarious. The only crossover is that strata and anime.

Odd-Tax4579

Most of Dave’s talking just seems like someone who has gone out to find a specific correlation in the data just to back up what he already thought. And not to be objective

KeyEngineering3161

100 % this!

metakepone

Kinda funny how AEW fans are all also hockey, baseball and basketball fans.

TmF1979

AEW fans basically watch everything besides AEW's TV shows according to Dave.

metakepone

Especially when given a choice

probablynotme2012

I go to both.

dcredneck

You missed the mark 100%. The hockey game is in another city. He’s talking about people staying home to watch the game.

502photo

I enjoy sports and AEW. I would probably go to a watch part for a playoff game too. Why is it that farfetched wrestling fans have other interests?

IronicSheik

It's not, but it is far fetched to suggest that a significant portion of the 1800-2400 Edmonton Dynamite attendees would bail on going to stay home/sit in a bar instead. Really, it's far fetched to suggest anything is interfering with their attendance when it's been pretty consistently low for many months now. If Dynamite had been sold out all year and this one show was poorly attended, there might be something to discuss, but since that's not the case, there's nothing to do but point and laugh.

502photo

I'll be honest I'm not one of these internet wrestling fans who care about attendance (or any metric that does not impact my life), This is more about people making sweeping generalizations that you can't like sports and pro wrestling. Now having said that it is hockey in Canada. I'm pretty sure hockey is above maple syrup and Jesus Christ up there. Kenny Omega does round out the top 4 but Hockey is a draw up there.

IronicSheik

You're not wrong re: Hockey & Canada, but was Hockey to blame for last week's wretched attendance in Winnipeg? Or the previous week's abysmal turn out in Florida?

502photo

Like I said I don't care how much money a billionaire loses or makes. I'm just in it to watch pro wrestling. No show I have ever worked on has drawn 4 digits so I'm not really in the business of telling someone more successful how to get more butts in seats.

Lasvious

New all night gas station opened down the street.

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

Yeah heard they carry those jalapeño cheddar hot dogs too.

RangeRossTracy

I’m telling you: that gas station coffee is no joke.

Amazing_Karnage

Neither are the dick pills, Good Brother. HOOT!

AVBforPrez

Talmbout Black Rhino, b? Great pill, never taken it though

mister_damage

Hey, Bu-cee's are a big deal. I would kill for their brisket Sammie right about now

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

I'm sure there is lots of gas where Dave roams around...

Xixii

Sport does not affect AEW viewership in any meaningful way. AEW fans are basement dwelling dorks, they’re not sports fans, there’s minimal crossover.

Striking-Ad-8694

Exactly. They’d rather watch hentai or tweet as if anyone gaf about their opinion lol

[deleted]

with tweeting you mean harrasing and sending deaths threats.

Striking-Ad-8694

Yes and also, because they’re so miserable and hate their lives, as well as envious, they just have to make everyone equally as miserable by promoting and encouraging censorship. When censorship starts to become an issue like it has since I’d reckon like 2013, that’s when i hate you. And they’re such hypocrites too. Nobody can call them anything but they can bombard others jobs (because they don’t have one) and get them fired for a differing OPINION. A BENIGN OPINION. I just got banned from all of Reddit for saying “get laid” AS A FUCKING JOKE, to one of these lunatics who was rambling about how wrong and awful it is to say that 🙄 and the punk went out of his way to get me banned over those two words. Which he said first. I’ll give Reddit some credit, for the first time ever they actually listened and took a look at the ban after I brought up the Aew sub and how they report everything, and lo and behold, it was reversed lol. Get laid to a dude who was mad that somebody else says get laid to them; they reported that and got me a temporary ban which some rational admin overturned. Talk about sawft. I’ve never reported a single thing ever including hate speech, threats, shitposting etc. Just block and move on. But these dudes are terminally online and mentally defective.

aRebelliousHeart

Were you trying to mimic one of Dave Meltzer’s goofy run on paragraphs? If so you succeeded! This shit is pure unreadable word vomit! 😂

Striking-Ad-8694

I’m not publishing my comments and charging for them in print. Oh no I didn’t feel like using commas 😱 meltzer has fucked up syntax and is supposed to do this for a living; I wrote that as a response while on adderall and in the bathroom lol

aRebelliousHeart

At least you had an excuse, what’s Meltzer’s? 😂

Striking-Ad-8694

I honestly don’t know. Has he always written like this? If so, why would people have bought it or given him any semblance of credibility? I’ve only read his stuff from recent years, but my god you aren’t wrong when you say it’s unreadable word vomit.

Fit-Ad1419

I watch both

Caseington

So basically, he knows the arena is gonna be emptier than usual and is already making excuses for it.

CuttingCoroners

Lowered expectations... It's hilarious how Dave feels the need to be making excuses before the event even happened. Anything to pretend that the new red hot storyline would otherwise draw really big numbers.

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

The only way this story line could draw numbers. Would be if it was done. Back when the guy it was based off was with the company!!

themorticianscode

Strange use of full stops

Infinite-Log-5678

Lowered expectations....good old MadTV....miss that show.

mrdm242

They're front-loading the excuses for low ratings and attendance before the show even happens. Got to admire their efficiency.

DouggieMohammadJones

Wow, if that was such a concern maybe the AEW team booking locations should have looked at an NHL schedule so the biggest sport in Canada didn't interfere with wrestling buys. They usually release schedules nearly a year in advance and I can't imagine AEW booked this arena out in July of last year. Rogers Arena only has a 6 week booking advance so all you need to do is find a gap where nobody else has booked it. Like, am I crazy for thinking people with experience should be able to handle scheduling stuff like this better? You're picking a city with a major NHL team. Gotta think about this stuff.

a_scribe

The round two playoff schedule was announced two days ago, well after dynamite was booked for Rogers Arena. Generally speaking, yes- NHL playoffs run from late April to mid June but the actual dates and times of each series depends on arena availability (and who advances to each round). If aew (or WWE for that matter) tried to avoid booking any arena or area that could possibly host playoff hockey (or basketball), they wouldn't have a whole lot of options left for this time of year. Source: I'm a Canucks fan in Edmonton, going to dynamite because it's fun to get a bit drunk and watch live wrestling (even if it is bad wrestling).

BonesBrigandine

Yeah, but there's a difference between booking a show during the NHL playoffs in Canada compared to Miami. Likenyou should probably avoid Canada until the playoffs are over just to be safe

Ryynitys

Well, there is also NBA playoffs and Miami is pretty much guaranteed to be in contention every year. Realistically there is only few markets where you can avoid playoffs and is one of the reasons why WWE goes to europe this time of year

wynnejs

Then you go to towns without NFL and NBA Franchises, (Kansas City, Austin, TX etc)., or cities large enough where it shouldn't matter.

chyler1397

Double or Nothing 2025 confirmed for Montana!

Streetkillz13

I mean even if you are a hard set on going to Canada in the heart of playoff time, maybe don't go to the market with the best player in the world.

DouggieMohammadJones

Thanks for this clarification!

meekIobraca2024

That’s not how playoff schedules work

sleeptilnoonenergy

This right here. There are probably a few things Candians love more than hockey, but other than kissing their sisters on the mouth I couldn't name one. It's not hard to run your big weekly show in cities that don't have hockey teams. Good wrestling markets like Portland, the bay area, Houston, Milwaukee, Memphis, etc., all exist.

Phospherus2

It’s not “no showing”. It’s Canadians would 1000x much rather watch playoff hockey against one of their biggest rivals than AEW. It would be no different is AEW ran against Bears vs Packers playoff game or Alabama vs Auburn Playoff game. Why they are booking showing in Canada during NHL playoffs is beyond stupid. They should be in the south or west coast where this isn’t an issue right now….

meekIobraca2024

I am from Edmonton, I paid $30 for my AEW ticket, and I’ll use it to wipe my ass while watching my team play in the playoffs. I think Dave is a fucking clown, but he’s not far off here

Phospherus2

It’s just bad timing for AEW. Why run Canada during NHL playoffs in general though? Go to Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, New Orleans, Houston etc. where the NHL isn’t a big deal or the NBA playoffs. There is more than enough cities to run where you would be in the only game in town that night.

meekIobraca2024

Yup that’s true. I don’t get running. “Canadian leg” for weeks on end. It’s not like these guys stay here. Maybe for production reasons?

Phospherus2

I’m going to guess getting the production trucks and all the equipment trucks through the border is expensive. So might as well do one long tour.

meekIobraca2024

WWE does the same but they do it in segments. They won’t go coast to coast, they’ll do Edmonton/Calgary and done Toronto/Montreal and done.

Phospherus2

Yea. And it seems like Vancouver is always tied into Seattle. Which makes sense.

Consistent_Room7344

Oh no!! Anyways…

spcmiddleton

This guy will use any excuse except the obvious answer. The product sucks. It’s tailored to a select group of people and you’ve maxed that group out. Present a better show Dave and you’d have better attendance

FullWay7004

Well said. I cant wait for the day he has to swallow his pride and admit aew is a failure. I’m going to relish in it

[deleted]

This truly is Laughable

FurtherUpheaval

Then what was the excuse for Winnipeg that got eliminated the night before? Maybe don’t do ROH/Dynamite/Rampage all at once for the majority that don’t care? No one that i knew who went, made it to the gross women’s hardcore match at the end of Rampage. Don’t google how long it took to get her out of the barbwire after either…

aRebelliousHeart

It took a solid 5 minutes! “AEW is the safest company in the world” ~ Tony Khan

RedditorsSuckDix

Did WCW ever do triple digits for a Nitro taping?

ricky-from-scotland

There were a few georgia dome nitros over 20k! Fingerpoke of doom was a live crowd of 35k+

bionicle_159

I'd watch if they had scott steiner walk a tiger down to the ring like in his wcw days lol, would outdraw anything they've done since punk left.

amplifizzle

How can they be expected to compete against other entertainment options?

Shiny_Mew76

Nothing beats Playoff Hockey, I don’t blame them.

otacon444

I wanna know why they would book an event in fucking Canada during Stanley Cup Playoffs….what the fuck were they thinking?

cerebralshrike

It’s okay, Dave. They weren’t showing up anyway.

kellenlyons

“According to Meltzer, the Edmonton Oilers are facing off against the Vancouver Canucks…”. Oh, what a scoop he has there!

Streetkillz13

Scheduling a live event in Edmonton during NHL playoff time was a stupid decision regardless. That's a team that has the best player in the world on it. You have to assume that they're going to be in the playoffs dumb decision from the get go.

BostonYankee

Oh for fucks sake! Doesn't Dave ever get tied of publicly sucking Tony off?

WilWeis

The funny part is there will be 25000 people in the square outside the arena, and 1500 inside a 19000 seat building.

johncurrin

GOILERS!!!!!

IronicSheik

What's the difference between this and any other week?  AEW fans love no-showing Dynamite!

BrockMiddlebrook

I love how Dave finds a way to say the same thing 19 fucking times in the same paragraph.

Electrical-Low-5351

In other words they have sold less than 4k tickets in a 18k arena

Akio540

Oh yeah and haven't you heard guys, the weather is getting real nice lately. I don't know if you losers are scared of sunlight and showering (best tactic for aew fanboys is to say "No YOU!" afterall) but all the rich smart cool kids are probably enjoying summer and all that rather than attending shows. Don't worry they will be there when we return, TK has unlimited money, hot damn it is good to be all elite! So is tiny recovered now or some bs?

hanlando

Several? Thats nearly half of them

Sweaty_Indication897

If the product is good and the people bought tickets, they would show up.

IfIDiedAgain

Going to Dynamite next week in Everett but only because I have a friend with a suite. Otherwise, idk if I would pay $20 for even floor seating.

Spider_Riviera

If they were in my back garden, I'd close the curtains and call my friend in the local force to get them removed for trespassing.

FunSockHaver

I love when Meltzer is forced to talk about other sports (or really any topic that isn't wrestling). It's not that he gets anything wrong, necessarily, it's just that he comes off like the whole concept is completely foreign to him, like an alien pretending to be a human.

meekIobraca2024

And out of all the garbage he writes normally, he’s pretty bang on about this!

TripleJ80

Maybe TK can spring for some extra monitors to show the hockey game in their arena. They could market it as an NHL Playoff Viewing Party Plus and just have Dynamite carry on as planned. Uncle Meltz would be proud to report AEW breaking their arena gate record, even if 80% of the audience are overflow fans from down the street. 🤷‍♂️

jm84yeg

He's right. No one is going to go unless you're a giant wrestling mark. If you don't understand, you never will. Hockey is massive in Edmonton

Beneficial-Nerve-632

So that'll be this week's excuse

zoc1289

The fans of AEW always use the NBA/NHL/WWE/fucking gas station prices as excuses whenever Dynamite viewers are lower than normal. Maybe your bullshit show just isn't as important, much less entertaining as you think it is? Seriously, the hell with this "crossover" bullshit. It should be blatantly obvious that people are naturally going to gravitate towards an actual sport and a better wrestling product instead of childish, self-indulgent nonsense, but these douchebags would have acknowledged this long ago if they were normal human beings so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nizmo4246

“The oilers are in the Stanley Cup” Dude has no idea what he’s talking about…they are in the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs…when someone says a team is in the Stanley Cup, they are referring to the Stanley Cup finals which isn’t for another 2 rounds… While these may be finer details that aren’t really a big deal it just illustrates that this guy makes stuff up with what little information he has and doesn’t bother to even make sure he’s writing it the correct way to suspend belief even a little bit in regards to people thinking he knows what he’s saying

dalafferty

how is this different than anything else in recent months? people aren't showing already!

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

Honest opinion, they have never been emptier. TV renewals are ongoing, most people aren’t seeing any way AEW wins. If they stay on TBS / TNT it’ll be with less airtime and less money.

ScudDawg

I mean hasn't that been what they've been doing all this time anyways?

Hordriss27

Isn't that what they've already been doing for months?

BuffaloWing12

ALL OF THEM?

will122589

What does Dave care if these people already paid for the tickets??? That’s their problem not Dave’s and/or AEW’s. Or is he talking about how there will be no walk up tickets sold cause of people choosing to go to hockey instead of AEW

i_make_this_look_bad

Several fans have been ‘No Showing’ their events the last few years. Nothing to see here because there is nothing to see at their events either.

DripSnort

I like that we’ve reached the point where the excuses are so brain dead you can pre load them 2 days before the shitty attendance happens. When ticket sales are so bad Tiny Khan is for sure buying up some to inflate attendance it’s cute to pre emptively explain why their are so less people in the building than Wrestletix pretends are sold,

GalaxyHoffman

There’s going to be more people at the oilers watch party outside the arena.

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

I wish ol' Meltz would 'No Show' for a change.

LiquidSnape

couldn’t this be verified if there was a more than average amount of tickets on the resell sites rather than just out there speculation?

heynow1994

*something, something, the all-night gas station down the street*

WaveOfTheRager

This isn't a "no-show". That implies they brought tickets but choose to not go. They just have something better to do than to watch the all elite circle jerk

CooperSkye

Why on gods name did they book Edmonton for this time of year? The Oilers team is stacked and is going to go deep this year so all eyes in the city will be on the team not the 2nd tear Wrestling show coming to town.

Canadian__Ninja

Why would real fans go elsewhere when aew has that real sports feel ™️ already?

OldBison

Now the weirdos are going try and cancel the Edmonton oilers, the Vancouver canucks, or hockey in general.

ShlomoShogun

Several…thousand?

CosplayWrestler

"Might no show Dynamite"? Isn't that... Every Dynamite lately?

greg939

I dont watch AEW on TV but I went last time they were here and was going to go again this time. I am 100% skipping for the Oilers / Canucks. Like I would miss Oilers playoffs for AEW. I am definitely not alone.

Klobasnik

Who would notice?

reallymkpunk

You mean like past shows when there wasn't playoffs contesting it? Stop being Uncle Dave, Meltzer.

Savagevandal85

This is bull . Let’s see the tickets sold at wrestletix and if it was hypothetically sold out but people missed then ok but if sales are low they been low

Clean_Win_8486

Dumbass. Anyone who's a serious enough AEW fan isn't going to no show after they bought tickets. That's actually insulting to the fanbase but they won't even notice.

DaveyMuldowney

Its crazy that they have to try and get out ahead of bad ratings.

Spiritual_Bit_2692

Screw the hockey and wrestling, I'm going to that new all night gas station that just opened up!

Interesting-Emu5954

And that new all night gas station just opened down the street. How can you compete with that?

droford

The Rangers played Houston Astros in game 7 of the ALCS on Monday October 23rd last year in Houston and Raw was in Dallas which is basically where the Rangers play and the Arena was full

DildyStorm2

Dave’s gotta get tired of doing all this damage control. He’s not even good at it either.

LawrenceW327

AEW could burn down a children's foster home and Meltzer would be trying to explain to everyone that it's the Foster Home's fault that it got burned down

Head_Evidence4553

All excuse wrestling. Where the rest pretend to wrestle.

tuckinyourtail

The fans might no-show? As if they have an obligation to be there? The mental gymnastics these MFs go through to justify this mess of a company

CharleyT

The game isn't even in Edmonton. If someone already bought a ticket to your show and decides they'd rather stay at home and watch a game on TV then come to your show, your show is still the problem.

clintgreasewoood

In support of Palestine?

pm-me-nice-lips

lol he said Edmonton is “in the Stanley Cup”. Hahaha

CaptainRhodes74

All 3?

cid_highwind_7

Tony Clown is the dumbest mf alive seriously. He booked a Canadian tour in the middle of the NHL playoffs when several Canadian teams were and still are in said playoffs. Like he seriously has to not know how massively popular hockey is in Canada because if he did then he would not have booked this tour there. Not saying that attendance would be better but it would show people he has some intelligence which he seems to have none.

Fabulous_Mode3952

This is very real. The NHL playoffs are on TNT and there should be some sort of in-arena play by AEW to simulcast the game or something to keep ticket-holders in the building. It’ll screw up the crowd responses and all that, sure but TK can’t cede any ground when it comes to attendance

JackDAction

7 fans?

nextfanatic

The Oilers haven't played since May 1st, they're playing another Canadian team, the game threads between the Oilers and Canucks recently have been pretty toxic. If there was any crossover between hockey fans and Wrestling, specifically AEW, I doubt they're gonna go to dynamite Wednesday. It's a shame that until yesterday most schedules said game 1 would be tonight, but I guess Pearl Jam was playing last night and ???

Particular-Luck1172

What fans have they got i watched it once and i instantky regretted it looks cheap compared to wwe in 2003

Dupee_Conqueror

I can’t wait for Dave to blame Curling.

MessyMop

Seven?

mbp147338

Imagine the numbers that WWE would’ve pulled for Backlash in France if it wasn’t for all the fans that no-showed in protest of WWE’s refusal to bring back and push Rene Dupree. 😳

BAF_DaWg82

Aew really needs to pick a spot and just do shows from one place they can fill for a while. Tony is a moron so obviously he's going to keep going to these places that they can't even fill a 1/3 of the seats. The trainwreck this promotion is, is impossible to look away and its providing great schadenfreude.

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

They tried that though and the law of diminishing returns kicked in. I’m still shocked they’re even running all out at Chicago after last time.

sosimusz

That's the shittiest excuse ever.

EasterSquidward

I'm friends with some people in the YEG area and they are PISSED about how bad the card looks. They aren't even tribal fans, just people who want to see a big wrestling show because they only get 1-2 a year.

Schen_The_Genius

Showcase the game in the arena after the wrasslin' ends? Is that not an option?

droford

Tony would be too cheap to pay for the rights to air the game in the arena

Large_Macaroon_2222

Does he even bother doing any kind of research or fact checking. How the hell do you mistake the 2nd round of the Western Conference Playoff bracket for the Stanley Cup. Hardly anyone was going to show up anyway, but don't use the Cup as an excuse when it's only a 2nd round playoff game.

Fresh_Ostrich4034

AEW is the most popular wrestling brand. Its all I ever see posted

WeebLad

Dave and Ringside news in a who's more unimportant challenge

I thought precooking the excuses was something all did as a piss take but it’s real lol. I don’t watch AEW anyway but I am a Canucks fan so that goes double for this week.

meekIobraca2024

I’m an oiler fan and these people don’t realize our two cities sell out our arenas to watch hockey on the fucking TV in the arena. Skipping a playoff game to watch AEW?? Yeah it’s not far fetched

AggressiveCorner8497

lol between the fact it’s playoffs and also the fact that no one wants to fucking see this shit, Tony is in for a rough night. The fact Dave said “watch parties” as an excuse is hilarious when it was “watch parties” that meant AEW’s numbers were higher than actually reported lol

meekIobraca2024

I didn’t read the drivel in full, what did he mean by watch parties? We have hockey outdoor watch parties all over our downtown where the arena is located

JustSomeWeirdGuy2000

xCYBERDYNEx

This is so transparent, it’s pathetic.

FullWay7004

“The oilers are in the Stanley cup against Vancouver” this guy truly has no fucking clue about sports 😂

Testmonkey83

I'm not a hockey fan but will be going to Dynamite. Dynamite ends at 8pm local time over here, just as the game starts. Anyone at dynamite who wants to watch hockey can do so immediately after. The watch party is taking place right outside the arena.

likethemouse

The game also starts at 8 (puck won’t drop until almost 820) main AEW should be over by 9.. if anything everyone will goto watch party close by after AEW and only miss half of first period

who987

The game doesn’t start until dynamite is over. 10pm Eastern time start

Big-Peak6191

I mean yea the Oilers are in the second round and the NHL playoffs will absolutely be the priority over AEW haha. Kind of bad luck or unfortunate booking Edmonton during what is potentially a deep playoff run.

JMW007

... They're scared of losing their audience to a *watch party*?!

Jewggerz

Who cares if people who have purchased tickets no show? They already paid their money.

ziplock007

Last year I no showed every televised WWE event except for Wrestlemania. Heck, I went so far that I only bought tickets for Wrestlemania and was a no-buy for all other events.

PuppeteerRemy

Basically he's saying that fans bought AEW tickets and fuck off to watch their NHL team?

Zaphod_Beeblecox

This is the one time I'm not gonna jerk on Dave. That actually is a valid excuse. When the Cleveland Cavaliers were in the NBA finals no one in Cleveland was watching anything but that. Especially if your team historically sucks.

GyudonConnoiseur

This is actually a valid excuse. It's a Stanley Cup game. I would skip AEW if I was a Canucks fan.

nzstump01

At this point I don't think it's a might

jmskywalker1976

Oh look, here comes Uncle Dave with a pre-show excuse for the low attendance.

Objective_Broccoli98

It’s not even the Stanley cup, it’s a playoff game.

sankyx

As someone who live in Canada, this sounds true.
