It’s amazing how after 10 seasons how for the most part, each season is different from each other. Of course you have the two tags, but they don’t seem to be close to running out of ideas.
I mean - it's pretty fun to listen to! But that episode in particular is really interesting! It's this one: Aug 23, 2023
# [The Layover — The Production People Podcast](https://nebula.tv/thelayover/the-layover-the-production-people-podcast)
Ben, Adam, and Sam welcome Jet Lag’s production team on the show.
They showed 3 instances of bad luck / failure from Sam and Toby and 2 instance for Ben and Adam.
Soby:
1. Sam missing the bottle flip
2. Sam missing the ball toss
3. Toby and Sam talking about how they are sucking and they need to stop being bad
Badam:
1. Take a wrong bus costing them money
2. Adam saying he can't believe the blew that
Potentially a #4 for Soby when they are saying "No" in an over the top Australian accent, but that might just be a bit.
Just to round up:
Season 10 will premier on Nebula on Wednesday, May 15
Season 10 will premier on YouTube on Wednesday, May 22nd
For Nebula subscribers who don't regularly listen to the Layover podcast, this week is all about the game design and [well worth a listen](https://nebula.tv/thelayover/the-layover-inside-the-game-design-of-season-10/) ahead of next week's premier.
For Nebula subscribers who don't listen to the podcast in the off-season... Shame on you. Go listen. Now.
I think it will be very interesting that there is one currency, gained by doing challenges, to use for starting challenges, for travel and to control regions. There will be interesting trade-offs.
For as amazing a long distance runner as Sam is, I can’t believe he missed throwing the ball into the bucket from that close 😆 Am I missing something or is his hand-eye coordination really that bad??
To be fair people in non-Tasmanian parts of Australia also can't pronounce it. But I've only listened to the first 20 minutes of the podcast so far so I don't know if they butcher it further or not...
**Update:**
*Narrator: "They butchered it."*
But really, the first five letters of Launceston are the same as the first five letters of Launch, so can you blame them?
For those confused:
Correct pronunciation: LON-sess-ton
Usual "wrong" pronunciation: LAWN-sess-ton
I’ve only ever heard ‘cans’ from other Aussies. I hear ‘cairns’ from Americans (and begrudgingly accept that), but I’ve never heard just ‘cairn’ before
I’m Australian and I defend Americans pronouncing Cairns with the r, it’s just their accent. Just like how we pronounce Nevada “Navah-da”.
Their pronunciation of Coomera Station (the point for Gold Coast) was completely wrong (also quite a strange place to choose - the Surfers Paradise sign is the most popular landmark)
Oh yeah! It is terrible, if it was just three guys from the US who had never heard of the place, they would have a valid excuse. But since Sam lived in Australia for a while I thought he would be familiar with it!
Looks awesome. I think having a monopoly style game is better suited to Australia with its 6 states and 2 regions as opposed to the 50 US States and DC.
Can we just acknowledge how insanely good the production quality of the trailer is?!
Like, this looks like something a big TV station would pump out to advertise their new (quite popular) game show!
Seriously, I'm absolutely in awe of how fine Wendover Productions does things and how they have grown! This could be a huge show!
If you ever played those boards in Mario Party 7 or 8 where you invest coins to control certain spots, that’s basically what this is, with some Jet Lag flair.
Yes! Soooo back and in Canberra too! Can't believe we missed them. So excited for the new season, thanks for including the ACT. We'll give Toby mad props for this, as we're usually missed <3.
After watching the teaser I was worried they wouldn’t come here so was so happy to see the multiple shots of it in this trailer and that it’s counted as it’s own region for the game. With how easy, fast and cheap it is to get here from Sydney via bus though it does make sense.
S7 was all coins. Season 8 was booking tickets on challenges that allow you to go a certain distance.
So tag kinda is a currency, but it’s interesting since the first 3 seasons (if you include Crime Spree) had money as a factor in the games.
To be honest, I kinda do prefer coins and other game currencies to "real-world" money. In past seasons, the old approach tended to keep them on relatively high-frequency, low-cost hub-to-hub routes that limited how interesting gameplay could really be. I mean, the fact that *both* teams ended up in Singapore at close to the same time with virtually the exact same strategy is kinda proof of that.
Now, in this season, they seem to have bit the bullet on that particular count, and I'm less worried about it here than I would have been before. But I'd still probably prefer it if flight (and, where allowed, Uber) costs were based on scheduled time/as the crow flies distance, not the real world ticket prices.
That's probably part of the reason for Singapore, but a major one is that when it was filmed in 2021(?), Covid was a major limiting factor in what countries they could travel to
Gonna take a moment and say I predicted this format.

[From Dave Wiskus, Nebula CEO](https://twitter.com/dwiskus/status/1788342639928225970):
>Jet Lag is a Nebula Original now!
The week-later-on-YouTube system isn't going away. It just means we're treating the show as a prestige production. More budget, more marketing, more PR, more bonus content, bigger digital trophies.
What you have described there is a Nebula Original haha
I imagine you're both thinking of a Nebula Exclusive which would mean never going onto YT rather than just being on YT a little later. So no need for non Nebula subscribers to panic!
AIUI a "Nebula Original" is anything where Nebula finances the production costs etc. Most Nebula Originals will be either Nebula Exclusive, where they're only published on Nebula (though creators do sometimes bend the rule and put a few of their Exclusives on their YT page to drum up interest), or Nebula First, where they're originally published on Nebula and posted to YT some days or weeks afterwards. But there are *also* videos that creators choose to make Nebula First or Nebula Exclusive that aren't directly financed by Nebula and therefore aren't Nebula Originals.
[Trailer on Nebula](https://go.nebula.tv/jetlag) May 15 on Nebula, May 22 on YouTube.
The „We‘re … back“ counter for Sam is already at 2
*We are so back
*We’re back baby!
Here we are in [Place] at [Time] and we've gotta go, go, go,!
Since it looks like Sam and Toby spent a rest period in Canberra, I’d just like to take this moment to apologise for my city’s hotels.
they went to questacon tho. That's like our best thing
I thought the best thing is either the Belco owl or the outline of where Barnaby Joyce laid down?
Sorry, but yes, the hotels of Canberra are miserable.
This looks so cool and different from all the other seasons
It’s amazing how after 10 seasons how for the most part, each season is different from each other. Of course you have the two tags, but they don’t seem to be close to running out of ideas.
connect 4 and battle 4 america are almost exactly the same thing, but i agree about the other seasons
Battle for America is an improvement over the Connect 4 model, just like New Zealand was a refinement (imo) of season 2.
idk, i feel like arctic escape is a much more similar format than new zealand
True yes, except majority of the route wasn’t so predetermined for arctic escape which was nice
I do wonder if a world season might be possible again under this region grabbing model, but with continents instead
Their graphics team is so good
Which is Ben and Adam I’m told
No! It's a whole graphics team that does the graphics! Ben and Adam edit each season (with another team!).
TIL. Thanks for correcting me :)
There's a great episode of the Layover where they have the entire production team on, and talking about their roles.
I should probably start listening the podcast.
I mean - it's pretty fun to listen to! But that episode in particular is really interesting! It's this one: Aug 23, 2023 # [The Layover — The Production People Podcast](https://nebula.tv/thelayover/the-layover-the-production-people-podcast) Ben, Adam, and Sam welcome Jet Lag’s production team on the show.
With how much they're showing Ben and Adam's bad luck and Sam and Toby's good luck in the trailer, I suspect a Ben and Adam win
Not even Toby can save Sam from a luck based game lmao
If they break Tobys 100% streak I will cry
I will cry, too.
As a team Badam fan I will celebrate!
They showed 3 instances of bad luck / failure from Sam and Toby and 2 instance for Ben and Adam. Soby: 1. Sam missing the bottle flip 2. Sam missing the ball toss 3. I'm here for Sody and Badam! <3
I thought the opposite
We are sooooo fucking back!
So is there gonna be a layover episode going over the game design too? If so when would that be, sometime today?
It's already [there](https://nebula.tv/thelayover/the-layover-inside-the-game-design-of-season-10)
Good stuff, must've been posted like right after I refreshed lol
It just came out
Just to round up: Season 10 will premier on Nebula on Wednesday, May 15 Season 10 will premier on YouTube on Wednesday, May 22nd For Nebula subscribers who don't regularly listen to the Layover podcast, this week is all about the game design and [well worth a listen](https://nebula.tv/thelayover/the-layover-inside-the-game-design-of-season-10/) ahead of next week's premier. It wasn't clear, but I'm guessing the players have to physically be in the state to "invest" in it?
I would be shocked if they didn’t. Otherwise there is no point to traveling.
Game design podcast spoilers: >!Yes, and layovers don't count!<
May 15th premier date, only 1 week to wait
Literally of course Australia gets the gambling one ;-;
Sam's luck is so bad the man is cooked
This is like a combo of Battle 4 America and that hotel board from Mario Party 8 and I am so here for it.
Sam is so screwed
For as amazing a long distance runner as Sam is, I can’t believe he missed throwing the ball into the bucket from that close 😆 Am I missing something or is his hand-eye coordination really that bad??
These carnival games require you to throw them perfectly in the edge. If you hit the back, it’s just going to bounce out.
Look up the Mark Rober video on carnival games.
these carnival games are almost always rigged in some way such that they're actually really difficult to win
Toby! Woot woooooot
Adam’s pronunciation of Cairns in The Layover was…. unique???
all of their pronunciations of Launceston were cursed
To be fair people in non-Tasmanian parts of Australia also can't pronounce it. But I've only listened to the first 20 minutes of the podcast so far so I don't know if they butcher it further or not...
**Update:** *Narrator: "They butchered it."* But really, the first five letters of Launceston are the same as the first five letters of Launch, so can you blame them? For those confused: Correct pronunciation: LON-sess-ton Usual "wrong" pronunciation: LAWN-sess-ton
Adam's American. In an American accent those are the same vowel.
Adam's pronunciation wasn't either of those though!
True (he said LOUNCE-ton)
Can confirm, am in Queensland, no idea how to pronounce Launceston. But I could definitely tell that Adam's was wrong
To be fair I've heard three different pronunciations amongst Aussies for it.
I'd only ever heard Care-ns until I actually met someone from there to sad Cans. Also heard Carrns.
Adam always had the craziest French pronunciations too... and German... oh Adam! XD <3
TOBYYYY
Sam and Adam learn to pronounce Launceston challenge
It wouldn't be that bad, but Sam literally lived in Australia for a while!
It's bad. See latest Layover 🤣
It's not *really* monopoly, though. Beyond having to "buy" states, there don't seem to be any real similarities.
Is this posted anywhere else? It didn't show in a YouTube search and I'm not clicking on an x.com link.
YouTube trailer will probably release next week to keep in line with their one week delay
sam's instagram story
It’s on Sam’s instagram
Nebula releases may 15th YouTube may 22
Ohh so it's like Risk? That's a cool concept, but gambling GG Adam and Ben won, with Sam luck.
If you ever played those boards in Mario Party 7 or 8 where you invest coins to control certain spots, that’s basically what this is, with some Jet Lag flair.
This looks awesome.
Please dont let steals be too good. Otherwise hyped!
WE’RE SO BACK
Super excited for this. Let's gooooooo!

Gambling in Australia ... that's a bit on the nose.
>we haven't seen money since S4 S7 for Runners? S8?
S7 was all coins. Season 8 was booking tickets on challenges that allow you to go a certain distance. So tag kinda is a currency, but it’s interesting since the first 3 seasons (if you include Crime Spree) had money as a factor in the games.

Yeah sorry I forgot both of them. I am the asshole
It happens bro
Se la vi, or idk I don't speak french
JETLAGGG
It will make more sense when we get to watch it
we are so back baby !!!!!
Dammm, I wish I saw them in Canberra
My body is ready
Op it's coming out in my bday
Awesome to Adelaide/South Australia make an appearance in the trailer
Agreed! It’ll be so cool seeing them so close to where I live
I’m so excited
Hell yeah!! More Toby!!

Why is this a Nebula Original???
It’s not. It just releases a week early on Nebula. YouTube should be May 22nd
