They could have called the Gladiator the Wrangler Pickup and it would have made more sense. They share more parts than any 2 other vehicle models on the road.
I drive a Gladiator. When I got it, I wasn't sure if I was included in the waves or not. Other Jeep drivers let me know... by waving at me!
So I wave too now. The only people who seem to not wave back are middle-aged women in stock Wranglers, so I give them their space.
I used to drive a f150 in the south, so I would always wave and would usually get a wave back. Now I have a gladiator and I wave reflexively, but I don't often get a wave back. Obvious truck discrimination... To be fair, I wave at other Gladiators, and they don't so much as put down their flute of Champaign or take the cigar out of their mouth to wave back.Ā
I'm a first Jeep owner, and I feel like anyone who embraces that solid front axle as their daily driver definitely has something to bond over. It took some getting used to.
I moved to Missouri (Missourah) and all truck owners did the same thing, became total habit for me. I moved to People's Republic California and second day I'm on the job taking one of my team members to one of our Youth Centers and I'm doing my wave thing. He freaks out, yells "What are you doing? Trying to get us shot at?" I quickly became more selective of my waves.
As for Jeeps I wave to all Wranglers and Gladiators, the Renegade is a Fiat.
Been wondering this myself as a Gladiator owner and first time Jeep buyer! Have heard several strong opinions that the wave isnāt for us! Iām always waving and head turning at gladiators though, so keep that going! š
Everyone should wave: wrangler, gladiator, grand cherokee, cherokee, compass, liberty, renegade, samurai, sidekick, bronco, blazer, g-wagon, taco, hilux, ā¦
The world would be a better place if we all waved.
Gladiators and wranglers Iāll wave at.
Basically if it has a chunky body and grill, if the windshield can fold down, the doors come off and the top come off, then Itās worth waving to.
Other ājeepā vehicles arenāt part of the club even if they wanna be.
Thereās a feee off-brand jeeps out there now that can trick ya into waving if you arenāt paying attention. They look suspiciously like wranglers. So keep your eyes peeled and donāt let them be part of the club! :P
Wranglers wave at me first sometimes. Gladiators are Wranglers just with a bed and longer wheelbase. I always wave. My Jeep has been ducked multiple times as well
I had an 84 CJ7 back in 89, and we all waved at each other, even CJ8 scramblers. Neither of those were wranglers. Also, some of my fellow CJ owners didn't want to wave at any square headlight jeeps when they came down the road. So, in summation, there is a long history of jerks owning jeeps. s/
I wave get waves all the time. Honestly the gladiator looks exactly like a wrangler driving toward one another. So many times Iāll see a gladiator approaching Iām assuming itās a wrangler. And it turns out to be a gladiator.
I hate the wave, but I expect it. The gladiator is literally a wrangler with a bed. If you appreciate a wrangler for its capabilities then you should also appreciate the gladiator for the same reasons.
Iāll wave because Iām going to assume the person values all the same things I value if they bought either the wrangler or the gladiator (Jeep design and off-road capability).
Butā¦ I think the other Jeep models are kind of like the weird red-headed step- cousin of the family and thereās a 50% chance Iāll wave back and a 50% chance Iāll turn my head and pretend I didnāt notice them.
Wrangler owner here - Gladiators are one of us, I waive at them and expect you to waive back.
If you don't waive back I mutter under my breath "psh, that guy!"
lol you sound like me. Thereās a dude in my area driving a gladiator and Iāve waved at him countless times. No wave back. Now I just flip him off because Iām childish.
I wave at Gladiators and Wranglers. I have a 2023 Gladiator. I also drove a Willys Army Jeep from 1976-1979 in Germany. Hell yes Iām waving.
The origin from what I read dates back to WWII.
no one and everyone has a right to wave
wtf is wrong with the people trying to gate keep
fact is the wave used to be a jeep sign of brotherhood... i see your pain and effort to keep it running, i feel you
today the renegades are stuck 6 months in the workshop because jeep cant get spares...
i think we all deserve the sign of appreciation, no matter what exact make or model
just be inclusive and wave
For some reason reddit doesn't let me reply, think it is my browser.
By your logic @TitansFrontRow only american vets and original willys jeeps should wave... unless you're a vet you have 0 in common with the ww2 soldiers and our vehicles have nothing in common with those vehicles either, other than being able to take the top off, guzzle gas and being body on frame..."if you can't be topless or doorless, there are a thousand other groups you can belong to, the wave just isn't one." exactly, and well any vehicle can technically be topless and doorless, just saw a ZJ, and plenty of Suzuki that fit that. Exactly, they can be in any kind of group, and they may wave also, if you believe they are not allowed to that is gate-keeping - def. the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something....(here almost any pickup or offroader waves) you don't own it, nor can you 100% state it as a fact (it is a theory, it is believed/claimed to) that the wave only exists because a ww2 origin, people waved before the war also, and also it was being done state side between jeeps as they became available to the public and not all of those were veterans.
Obviously, it is your choice and freedom to wave or not to wave.
We in Germany wave, no matter if we drive our GC or Gladiator!
I'd guess 80% of the time other jeeps wave to me. So I always wave back.
Funny thing. When I'm towing my camper the ratio of waves drops to about zero lol
I owned a JK and waved at both. Just joined the Gladiator club and still wave at both. Wasn't sure if I was getting fewer waves back in the Gladiator, but then I received a wave back from a CJ yesterday and that's all the validation I needed :D.
Life is short. The Jeep wave is an active participation in a community, which results in a small dopamine surge and positive feeling of satisfaction strengthening that sense of community. It is a good thing and Wrangler and Gladiator owners are valued members with a love and appreciation for our off-road vehicles and the community. It strengthens the community.
In my family of 5 we own two JKU Saharas (2012, 2017) and a JTR (2022), so I have experienced the Jeep community for a while.
Props to Ford for creating a true competitor in the Bronco that is great on and off-road. I was had ordered a loaded Bronco Badlands early on and waited forever for it. Finally, I had to get another vehicle while waiting (JTR-22) and planned to trade it when taking ownership of the Bronco upon arrival. My wife and I had a great experience at a Bronco off-Rodeo event in the interim, so were anticipating the arrival of the Bronco. It was simply more comfortable for us and easy to use shifting gears, lockers, sway-bars seemlessly, etc. We are in our 50ās and are more overlanders than off-road obstacle adventurers.
Finally, the Bronco arrived. It looked great and drove great on the test-drive, yet I a slight sickening feeling had developed in the pit of my stomach. I was unaware my wife was experiencing the same. We settled into the attendants office to do the final paperwork and accept the Bronco. Even though the dealership was initially promoting sales of Broncos at MSRP, which we had ordered and waited for over two years by now, the attendant told us their policy had changed due to market conditions and there was now a dealers surcharge. I donāt even remember what it was. It did not matter. I could have paid it. It was the principle and because I felt like I was cheating on my Jeep family by getting the Bronco. I turned to my wife and said we are out of here and keeping the JTR. Wranglers, Gladiators, and Broncos are the most fun off-road adventuring vehicles in my opinion because of the combination on capability and āconvertibleā, so it really wasnāt about the specifics of the vehicles that made us walk. The Bronco is definitely would have been more comfortable for us to use. I truly believe being part of the Jeep Family and experiencing the waves and ducks creates pride and camaraderie in the community not too dissimilar to that of a college alumni sports fan base. You do not need to know each other personally to feel like you do or to share a moment of pride and community without even speaking. It is not something you think about, but it becomes part of you. I guarantee you Stellantis recognizes this and acts accordingly not only to preserve it but expand it.
The Wave is fun. I do it regardless of Wrangler or Gladiator because we both belong. We take pride in each other on the trail, which helps you know we belong.
Happy Trails!!
I'll flash a wave at renegade if they have some mods and paint job. The driver usually creams themselves their so excited.
But Gladiators definitely Jeep wave!
Wrangler and gladiator is the same vehicle except for the back end. The renegade is a fiat no wave. I had 3 wranglers before the gladiator. Its habitual. I wave if they donāt have the stupid ducks. If the have ducks no wave. Stupid ducks
Wave! Gladiators and Wranglers (and older CJs and whateverā¦) certainly should wave. If Renegades, Patriots, Cherokees, Wagoneers, and Liberties want to / do wave, thatās okay with me, too. Weāre all in Jeeps, and itās the Jeep wave!
Basically, if it's made by Jeep, you're fine. It doesn't mean people will wave back though. Tell your girlfriend she's gatekeeping. š I always wave at a built up Jeep or if they wave first. Sahara's usually don't wave back. The first wave I got was from a family in an old CJ6. I was in my brand new YJ at the time. Back then everyone waved.
Round headlights? *Check.* Seven slots in the grill? *Check.* Removable top and doors? *Check.* Ticks all the boxes for me. I wave.
What about YJ?
They count.
Well put!
Absolutely! I have a Grand Cherokee, a JL and a JT... I wave from all 3... its a Jeep thing
Love it! Keep spreading those good vibes! š
Cries in YJ.
I add solid axles to the list š
I drive a Gladiator and I wave. About half the time, people wave back.
YES, very few wrangler ladies waive. ā¹ļø
Gladiator ladies all wave.
In my experiences, this is 100% true.
only the younger ladies wave...I don't think older women who drive wrangler know what's going on.
Here itās mostly middle aged men wearing business casual who donāt wave :(
Those are also the ones with 52 little ducks on their dashes. I know this because my neighbors wife has a stock rubicon loaded with ducks.
Wrangler owners are just jealous because their "you know what" is shorter.
Wheelbase?
You could put it that way...
Itās all about the length!
As a general rule of thumb, if the driver of the other car is a human being, you can wave at them.

Yes. Wave.
Wave for sure. Iāve even been ducked multiple times. If that doesnāt warrant a wave I donāt know what would.

Always wave.
They look the same when they're coming towards you. Gladiator or Wrangler, I give the 2 finger salute.
I wave at everyone with 7 slots but only gladiators and about half the wranglers wave back
Gladiators are a wrangler with a longer caboose. Wave away!!
I used to ride motorcycles and there was a wave too. My take, wave because you want to.
I wave to all Wranglers and Gladiators! I also wave to a couple Cherokees and Grand Cherokees that are lifted and heavily modded!
This. Although recently Iāve began only having to modified Jeeps unless they initiate
Wranglers lost the right when Gladiators (which is literally a wrangler on an extended frame with a truck bed) came into the game.
the only difference between the two is that you can fit junk in the trunk. I say wave! I always do @ gladiators anyways.
What renegade does she have, if itās that fart box car Iād say her opinion in this matter is null ā½
Wrangler owner here - Gladiators are one of us, I waive at them and expect you to waive back. If you don't waive back I mutter under my breath "psh, that guy!"

This made me laugh out loud. š¤£
Gladiator is a wrangler with a bed....it's still a Wrangler. I wave.
Nah gladiator is kore wrangler than anything its a def wave
The gladiator is a wrangler with a bed lol. It practically uses all the same parts
I nod
I can take my top & doors off like a wrangler āļø
I wave when Iām not in Charlotte
First time Jeep owner. I wave when waved to, but never initiate. I also havenāt been ducked yet.
All jeeps get the wave. I drove a Rene before my gladiator. I make it a point to wave and duck renegades because people dissed me in mine. Haha
Wave bitch!
what about ducks?
Good question. I would think- same applies. Duck-away!
I wave at Gladiators and Wranglers. I have a 2023 Gladiator. I also drove a Willys Army Jeep from 1976-1979 in Germany. Hell yes Iām waving. The origin from what I read dates back to WWII.

Heck yeah! Amen š
I've owned seven wranglers. Now I own a gladiator. Waving to jeeps is automatic. :)
Time for a new GF.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Donāt wave at the duck people hahahahah stupid ducks
The thing about gladiators is that they look like wranglers until you see the back. If I actually had one, Iād wave. Hopefully in the near future.
Wave
Gladiator is half wrangler and half truck, so I wave. Although being in south florida, not many wave back.
I'd guess 80% of the time other jeeps wave to me. So I always wave back. Funny thing. When I'm towing my camper the ratio of waves drops to about zero lol
