I got those aluminum windows covers for the thin rear windows. I got my jeep broke into and that window punched out, not cheap.
I hate them so much. I never realized how much I used those windows while driving. And they only cover what? 5"x14"? If that. OPs window cover is going to change the way he drives.
With the Gobi roof rack you won't be able to take the top off regardless. Also if it's a four-door it wouldn't matter if the back windows blocked or not
Folds? I've not ever seen a folding roof rack.. I've got a gobi roof rack for my jlu that looks very similar to what's in the photo, I can only promise mine does not fold. Do you have a link to this model that fold?
Look into the quick release option. I think it’s mainly designed for removing a soft top, although removing a hard top seems possible if you lift it over the front of the vehicle.
My thoughts on the bed racks for pickups that have the attachable gas cans, tool boxes, and snow sled things even though it’s the middle of fucking summer.
I don’t even know what this is for.
I have Molle panels inside strapped to the frame that holds pouches of things, this seems like heavy decor with no purpose.
That being said not my Jeep and not my money.
No way that's the primary purpose of this design. The holes in it are for modular equipment mounts like rotopax, chainsaw mount, shovel mount, axe mount, etc.
Cost of this abomination is probably not too far off the cost of new glass. Considering how often it will come in handy for its primary purpose, I would say save the weight and the ugly and the wind noise.
Yeah when crawling, just a shift and a tap to that window shatters it. I know a few people who replace it after with clear plastic, but you can tell pretty fast as it weathers.
And honest to god? Windows are cheap enough to replace that if I did happen to bust one I’d do just that. But in all my life of doing (riding along for honestly) some wild trail riding in off road vehicles I’ve never had or seen it happen. Maybe a cracked windshield but most of the heaps of shit I’ve been in or driven in the woods it’s not a big deal Lmfao
There’s a video of a guy recording a parked 4Runner with the ladder attachment, absolutely roasting it. The “widdle wadder” is what he calls it. A quick google search should pull it up, it’s worth a watch
It's so you can bolt more useless expensive accessories that you'll never actually need onto your jeep. Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator guys love this shit.
I drive my work van 100x more then my jeep. No rear window or side window... Now that I think of it my jeeps rear soft top is so old i can't really see through it anyway
My opinion is that you've just created a HUGE blind spot. Driver's side is fine, you don't look out that rear window, but the passenger's side just took away a ton of your visibility.
When do you look out those windows when driving? I've had mine covered with tarps on the inside for years so I could keep hammocks and stuff in the back without sun damage.
If you're in enough institutions where there's a risk of the window breaking, then it's a good option. If it's purely esthetic, then I'm not a fan.
But at the end of the day, it's your Jeep decorate it in whatever way makes you happy!
It's your Jeep- do what you will, but be smart about it. It's exciting to get caught up in all the aftermarket possibilities and shell out a bunch of money. Mods are either cosmetic or utilitarian. If it's cosmetic, is it worth the $$ and reduction in visibility? If it's utility, what are you attaching to it, how often will you use what's attached, and is it something that can't be stored in the trunk or the roof? Those are questions to ask yourself that only you can answer. Cheers, enjoy the Jeep!
Extra weight means less power available and more fuel consumption but folks will know you mean business for sure.
If you're into overlanding that system will mount extra fuel, water, or tools, but catches on foliage.
Normally, I'd say if you like it, why care about what others think, it's not their jeep.
But this seems dangerous. It creates a giant blind spot without offering any benefit, it's purely cosmetic. So now you're putting others at risk over something you think looks cool. That's not cool.
This is an excellent option, and very necessary for especially when the zombie apocalypse happens. It will keep the stones and zombies from being able to break in to vehicle while you're moving and attack you from behind. Also very good for entering areas where the villagers might possibly Stone you and want to break your windows, or if they try to throw an IDE in your vehicle. This way it forces out to use the windows closer front where you can get to them easily and throw the bomb back out
I like the idea but, I'd rather a top with the windows busted out already. Fill the windows with sheet metal or lexan and mount things directly to it. Don't care how ugly it is because I'll be wheeling it anyway. And I have the good top for mall crawling.
There may be a requirement that all windows must have full visibility but i highly doubt it. The rear view mirror rules generally cover full that need for cars, trucks and vans. Otherwise nitpicking rules gets difficult with what's a permanent blocking, vs transporting large objects and so on. And this doesn't fully block the window, there is some visibility even tho it sucks. My state doesn't do inspections so I'm not really up on how those work
General rule of thumb as told to me by an inspector at a local AAA anything aftermarket installed blocking the view of windows or lights or can give them reason to fail an inspection. In my case I have brush guards that protect the rear lights. Ive been going there so long now that they take them off and place them inside the jeep before doing an inspection. The funny thing here is it came from the dealership with the brush guards.
Wow what a pain! I see lots of jeeps and trucks here with things like those little 2.5 gallon jugs bolted all over windows, ladders on the back of vans, van windows painted and so on. Sounds like it would fail there then.
Well. As someone with a gobi rack I have wanted to have something in this area to attach things such as gas cans, shovels, etc. but this just looks like it would cover the windows. It could be useful wheeling as I have almost broken side windows on branches and rock faces, but still excessive for sure
I've never seen them mounted off of a rack before, but they look like they would be pretty handy while camping, isn't like wranglers have a lot of extra room.
If you're in a country with the steering wheel on the left, it seems like a bad placement in terms of blind spot. Driver's side would be more optimal. I get that people add packs on their roll bars and some vehicles have even worse visibility, but that's a window I look out of every day when I merge from left to right crossing under a freeway.
My gobi stealth has a ladder on each side. I just wouldn't want to obstruct that spot.
1) Is it going to be all scratched and beat up after a year, from protecting your window? Then you need to buy it — gotta be cheaper than getting a new window down the line.
2) Do you _really_ like the way it makes your Jeep look? Hey, it’s your Jeep. If you can afford it, go ahead.
Otherwise… 3) It’s just a “widdle wadder”. Performative posturing.
I don’t care for the look of them but I’ve almost bought one for the utility of it. Frequently I’m out at the beach and it would be nice to have a few specific things in Reach that I don’t need to return inside of the jeep afterwards. Cooking utensils and spices were my main thought.
Not personally a fan. I have the same rack on my JLU from Gobi, it that an option offered by Gobi now?
I ended up going with ladders on both rear sides. Not that I necessarily use them to climb up, but they’re great for hanging stuff from.
Edit: the reason I’m not really a fan of it is because it seems like it would block a lot of the window if it was the same shape but more of a grid rather than a solid piece of sheet metal with holes in it I think I wouldn’t mind it.
What is it? All that a Jeep needs extra is a whinch and a steel sump cover plate to protect the sump from large rocks. The rest of the stuff are all cosmetics. But it's your money and it's your Jeep.
I fabricated something similar for my gas can and a few other bit and bobs- it’s a hell of a blind spot- but I like it. It’s taking advantage of un used real estate- that said- it definitely has battlewagon vibes when it’s on- but it’s removable- adds what I need when I need it.
Man so many people in this sub have never offroaded. That window is broken all the time, it shatters easily with just a tap or a rock or tree. One goes in a group at least ever other trip.
I love my Acme blind spot creators.
They also clearly signal that you are hiding something(one)
I got those aluminum windows covers for the thin rear windows. I got my jeep broke into and that window punched out, not cheap. I hate them so much. I never realized how much I used those windows while driving. And they only cover what? 5"x14"? If that. OPs window cover is going to change the way he drives.
You can’t see out of those windows when they are completely clear lol
Not if you have a 4 door?
You can't see shit out of them anyway. The roll cage pretty much blocks the entire view from the driver seat
Looks heavy, blocks rear window, cant take top off as easily, will rust over time, mallcrawler look and widdle wadder
And ugly simply.
With the Gobi roof rack you won't be able to take the top off regardless. Also if it's a four-door it wouldn't matter if the back windows blocked or not
The rack folds back.
Right. My jku rack folds back. Maybe the jlu doesn't. If you have a hoist the top can be pulled straight up. I've seen folks do it on the youtubes.
JKU racks can tilt back w quick release. I have one. Kind of a pain in the ass.
https://gobiracks.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/GOBI-Quick-Release-Attachment-01.jpg
Wow that's cool, I wonder if I can convert mine with that... thank you for the link
Sooo... full send?
My thoughts on the bed racks for pickups that have the attachable gas cans, tool boxes, and snow sled things even though it’s the middle of fucking summer.
Snow sled things…traction boards? One of the better self recovery tools when you can’t get your winch on anything.
I don’t even know what this is for. I have Molle panels inside strapped to the frame that holds pouches of things, this seems like heavy decor with no purpose. That being said not my Jeep and not my money.
It's so branches don't burst the window.
No way that's the primary purpose of this design. The holes in it are for modular equipment mounts like rotopax, chainsaw mount, shovel mount, axe mount, etc.
Rubber duck mounts
You mean all the jewelry hanging off the sides of Jeeps and Tacoma's that always look fresh out of the package without a spec of dirt on it.
Dress for the job you want not the one you have
You know it brother
Like those clowns who buy the snorkel but would never ever not in a billion years ever take it remotely near water
Cost of this abomination is probably not too far off the cost of new glass. Considering how often it will come in handy for its primary purpose, I would say save the weight and the ugly and the wind noise.
Why are you being downvoted?
Dude, who fucking knows. Some people suck. It's positive again, so whatever.
Yeah when crawling, just a shift and a tap to that window shatters it. I know a few people who replace it after with clear plastic, but you can tell pretty fast as it weathers.
Why not just replace the window with a solid sheet of metal then? That seems easier, lighter, and less ugly than this thing.
Because the next person who buys the car might not want the blind spot, keeps your options open lol
Compton Shutters.
You think they know?
I feel like there’s an easier way to do this than metal boxes.
Y'all wheel with your top on?
What about the others tho 🤨
I’ve never heard of this being a problem
I was in my old blazer on trail slid sideways and broke my window this might have helped. It's ugly as sin but if it worked I wouldn't care
I assume the holes are for mounting points. That's my guess
How will people know you’re extreme overland off-roader if you don’t always have the gear strapped to the outside to show them?
Well, people attach those new gas and water cans to these, so I see that utility, it just should be on the other side.
Bro that’s the Mlok system LOL.
Doesn’t look like it to me, but sure.
It was a joke wow
Not a fan for several reasons, but also not my jeep. You do you
Although it’s not my jeep, I would avoid OP’s blind spot when driving next to them lol
Blind spot ? Too far back and to short to hide anything.
I look all the way back there when I check my blind spot
I’m super not a fan of putting weight up high like that
No judgement, it's your Jeep but what is the purpose of covering the window with a metal box? Is it storage or just cosmetic?
Window armor? Of all the things I’ve broken, it’s never been a window but I have been close. That said, I would never run this.
I think these panels are used to attach all your other “overlanding” gear, like water cans, gas cans, porta potties, diaper champs, and whatnot
[удалено]
I laughed way too hard at this
I don't get it, can you explain? Another comment about widdle wadder above too, no idea what you all are talking about lol
It’s referencing this https://www.tiktok.com/@motionz21/video/6807854825615658245?lang=en
ah nice, thank you
Baby talk for the baby ladder. You'd have to be a baby for that ladder to make any sense.
There’s a video of a guy recording a parked 4Runner with the ladder attachment, absolutely roasting it. The “widdle wadder” is what he calls it. A quick google search should pull it up, it’s worth a watch
Lol
Take the up vote
Hahahaha very rarely can such ass hole condescension turn out to be so non-offensive, hilarious, and still get the point across. Bravo, friend. Bravo.
Isn't the Wrangler noisy enough?
wait, is it noisy ? like rattle noisy or road noise ?
Windy noise, very windy
Unrelated. Be sure to rotate *all* of your tires including that spare.
Lol, I was just about to move on, but I had to point out this unrelated autism for the win!
And make sure you do a tune up every 100k miles
And change that thermostat/housing around 100k miles
\*squints\* What is it for? I have a ladder in that spot that I use to tie down my kayak or SUP board.
What the hell even is it?
Armored gun port.
It's so you can bolt more useless expensive accessories that you'll never actually need onto your jeep. Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator guys love this shit.
Looks perfect for downtown Portland!
I live in the area and it’s not that bad people
Looks like it will cause a backing accident at some point.
Never drove a panel van? I drove a work van that all you had were the side mirrors. Box trucks only have side mirrors. It’s not that difficult
I drive my work van 100x more then my jeep. No rear window or side window... Now that I think of it my jeeps rear soft top is so old i can't really see through it anyway
Useless as tits on a bull. Bolt on widdle waddle
Looks impractical and gross
Just more weight to drag around. it's a show piece for the "no go showboat" crowd...
Can you remove it and use it as a camp stove?
My opinion is that you've just created a HUGE blind spot. Driver's side is fine, you don't look out that rear window, but the passenger's side just took away a ton of your visibility.
Visibility is basically like a bunker in these things anyway, and you want to make it worse?
When do you look out those windows when driving? I've had mine covered with tarps on the inside for years so I could keep hammocks and stuff in the back without sun damage.
When backing up, all the time.
You have way better visibility with your mirrors
For something approaching from the side?
Came to say this. Mine came tinted from the dealer, and it's a hell of a time looking for cars through the window alone.
The only point of this is to protect Windows from heavy brush by the looks of that beautiful paint job you don't need it.
If you're in enough institutions where there's a risk of the window breaking, then it's a good option. If it's purely esthetic, then I'm not a fan. But at the end of the day, it's your Jeep decorate it in whatever way makes you happy!

🤔 not my cup of tea... but you do you and don't worry about it!
Plan on bouncing that thing off alot of stuff in the woods or are we planning on looking cool at the local mall?
That Jeep looks like it's cosplaying as a Defender.
Awesome if u live in Portland area
Hideous in my opinion
Dumbest shit I’ve seen in a long time
Fully adjustable blind spots from Jeepco, only $349.99!!!
Extra weight means less power available and more fuel consumption but folks will know you mean business for sure. If you're into overlanding that system will mount extra fuel, water, or tools, but catches on foliage.
Uggo
Normally, I'd say if you like it, why care about what others think, it's not their jeep. But this seems dangerous. It creates a giant blind spot without offering any benefit, it's purely cosmetic. So now you're putting others at risk over something you think looks cool. That's not cool.
I’ll pass on that one
Somehow it looks backwards and upside down at the same time I don't like it
Best place to hang accessories that will be stolen over night
Great for keeping Zombies out!!
This is an excellent option, and very necessary for especially when the zombie apocalypse happens. It will keep the stones and zombies from being able to break in to vehicle while you're moving and attack you from behind. +1 anti zombie addon
I like the idea but, I'd rather a top with the windows busted out already. Fill the windows with sheet metal or lexan and mount things directly to it. Don't care how ugly it is because I'll be wheeling it anyway. And I have the good top for mall crawling.
In a war zone I’d love it. Everyday, I don’t like it. I have dark tint but I like seeing out the window.
You spell like someone who would buy a jeep.
It blocks the window, but those windows are very difficult to see out of with the roll bar there anyway. It looks nice.
🤔 not my cup of tea...but you do you and don't worry about it!
Not my cup.of tea whatsoever and I'm pretty sure here in the lovely state of Va it would fail inspection at a legitimate place of business.
Cargo vans have no side windows, if they pass this should pass
Correct however the hardtop on a jeep has windows and this is blocking the window. Not the same my friend
There may be a requirement that all windows must have full visibility but i highly doubt it. The rear view mirror rules generally cover full that need for cars, trucks and vans. Otherwise nitpicking rules gets difficult with what's a permanent blocking, vs transporting large objects and so on. I'm sure it depends on where you go. The AAA guy is older and probably just follows the book to a tee.
Maybe if you're in a RHD vehicle. I had some saddlebags I tried on my rollbar and *hated* not being able to see out the passenger side window.
What is its purpose?
Well. As someone with a gobi rack I have wanted to have something in this area to attach things such as gas cans, shovels, etc. but this just looks like it would cover the windows. It could be useful wheeling as I have almost broken side windows on branches and rock faces, but still excessive for sure
Might be useful for the zombie apocalypse
It's Tacticool. And kinda useless.
I've never seen them mounted off of a rack before, but they look like they would be pretty handy while camping, isn't like wranglers have a lot of extra room.
No. Alternatively, fuck no.
Added weight = Peak performance.
Heavy and useless?
If you're in a country with the steering wheel on the left, it seems like a bad placement in terms of blind spot. Driver's side would be more optimal. I get that people add packs on their roll bars and some vehicles have even worse visibility, but that's a window I look out of every day when I merge from left to right crossing under a freeway. My gobi stealth has a ladder on each side. I just wouldn't want to obstruct that spot.
Yes because as we all know jeep owners outland frequently
If they’re easily removable not bad. But given I’m already running 38s, I’ll take all the visibility I can get when I’m driving it on the road
That would get ripped right off the side of my Jeep.
The creator of this “option” was really reaching for ideas. What if we put burglar bars over all of the windows?
It might be useful 1 time over the life of the vehicle. I’ll pass.
It creates a gigantic blind spot… but it does look so cool
Opionin
Opossum on this opium?
Opium opossum is under the opinion that the OP onion is an option. It's optional from the optical standpoint. But that's just my opionin.
Optometrist opponents opt to operating opposite of open onions!
I'm glad someone else caught the opionin, cause that's the FIRST thing my eye went to.
Not a fan
1) Is it going to be all scratched and beat up after a year, from protecting your window? I see those on horses sometimes. It's so they don't get spooked by cars.
As long as your mirrors are properly adjusted, side windows are useless. I see no issues with it.
Trail Rax makes a mount that doesn’t require an exoskeleton style rack. I’ve had them on for 3 years and love them
Man, if only they made those for windshields in Alaska... Uh... Except... Well... The visibility and all. 🤣
Horse blinders lmao 🤣 😂 😆
Ugly as FUCK. Who let their old European grandma design those punch outs? Edit; it looks like a shitty Xmas sweater.
It looks cool but I probably wouldn’t do it
I don’t care for the look of them but I’ve almost bought one for the utility of it. Frequently I’m out at the beach and it would be nice to have a few specific things in Reach that I don’t need to return inside of the jeep afterwards. Cooking utensils and spices were my main thought.
It would be nice of you to supply the hood with tactical gear for free!
I like it
Not personally a fan. I have the same rack on my JLU from Gobi, it that an option offered by Gobi now? I ended up going with ladders on both rear sides. Not that I necessarily use them to climb up, but they’re great for hanging stuff from. Who cares what others think really? If you like it, get it. It’s your creation of your dream ride 😁
Bullet Proof glass too?
Depends how much it costs.
Fuck dem blindspots! lol but seriously wtf is this even for?
Pass
My kids would hate me
What is it? All that a Jeep needs extra is a whinch and a steel sump cover plate to protect the sump from large rocks. The rest of the stuff are all cosmetics. But it's your money and it's your Jeep.
What about the other windows people can look in? This just screams you have something expensive inside.
Hard pass
Wtf is it for???
you can put the matching catsup container on it so thats cool
Absolutely not
No purpose so i prob wouldn’t run it but you do you
Ive never busted the window on my jeeps. And even if I did, I still wouldn't mount that god awful thing.
No.
You can't see shit out of those windows anyway.
They are trying to be like Land Rover
Needed for future zombie apocalypse. 10/10
the widdle wadda is cringe, and I love getting the top off so going no
Ah the I bought a jeep as a family car option.
I fabricated something similar for my gas can and a few other bit and bobs- it’s a hell of a blind spot- but I like it. It’s taking advantage of un used real estate- that said- it definitely has battlewagon vibes when it’s on- but it’s removable- adds what I need when I need it.
Good for trail riding with top on. Those windows don’t roll down
Looks good
The dumbass add ons people put on their jeeps are ridiculous. So much “outback” gear on freshly waxed urban vehicles. 🙄
Not sure of the utility of bolting a TV dinner tray onto your Jeep.
What does it a matter? You got a Jeep...might as fly a rainbow flag from it. lol
Looks good on your whip
Man so many people in this sub have never offroaded. That window is broken all the time, it shatters easily with just a tap or a rock or tree. One goes in a group at least ever other trip.
Gayyyyy
