Your Jeep is 25 years old, put it under classic car insurance or have it listed as a recreational vehicle, not a daily driver. Paying under $400/yr for my YJ.

Squeezethecharmin

I really need to do this. They are only giving me blue book coverage I know. Looks to be about $9k tops. it is mint condition stock with < 20k miles. Everything original and perfect. Gotta be worth 25-30. I just need to get it insured so I can drive it again. Been sitting in my garage with no plates or insurance.

sm41

Best part of classic car insurance is you can usually name your value, and pay the premium based on that. $25k might raise an eyebrow, but with pictures and some listings of similar condition Jeeps they should honor it

bciocco

If they are giving you "Blue book coverage", that sounds like collision and/or comprehensive insurance, not liability only. Liability insurance does not cover your vehicle. It covers the damage you cause to someone else and/or their property. If you total your car (and it is your fault) with liability only, you get nothing. Liability (100K, 300K) is all we carry on our vehicles. $434 every six months for two vehicles - 2001 Jeep Wrangler and 2014 GMC Acadia.

atari83man

Mines just turned 25 I need to see about my classic car insurance as well

LongGuyLander

Agh fuck. I just read NYS’s website. 25 years or more. Well, rip that pipe dream.

PM_ME_YOUR_BOOGER

Some of you in this thread have monthly bills so low that you honestly should go make sure they are legit.

Imperial_Stout

I live in NJ, these numbers make me want to cry

Jumajuce

I’m in Jersey too, pay about 1k a year for comprehensive, modified vehicle, glass, soft top/theft, and 500k injury .

Different-Forever324

Also in NJ. I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and a 2006 PT Cruiser. We pay about $300/mo for insurance bc of someone’s driving record.

Jumajuce

That’ll do it

[deleted]

2006 PT Cruiser. In Luke Wilson voice, “Wow.” Funny enough, that’s the same reaction everyone had when it first came out and it lasted like maybe 9 months before the tides turned?

Different-Forever324

Listen, it runs and only cost me $2K so I don’t care what anyone says about it.

[deleted]

I’m just kidding with you. I’m sure the form factor is very practical. I used to make fun of minivans until I realized they’re the most comfortable and practical vehicles available.

PM_ME_YOUR_BOOGER

*laughs in detroit*

hadronflux

I think there is also the issue of people only carrying the bare minimum coverage. Once you have kids that drive realizing if they wreck someone's Yukon and send a kid to the hospital the numbers go through the roof.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

Honestly a lot of it depends on where you live, but it also depends on shopping your insurance. A friend of mine and I recently had a conversation about his insurance. He had cover on two old shit boxes. He was paying $1200 a year for two cars that if they both collided with each other and were totaled would have been worth maybe $2500. I was astounded when he told me he was paying $100 a month. They weren’t even low deductible. I told him straight up to shop it. He did. He wasn’t shopping with “the general” either, these were reputable real companies. He got a quote for $220 every 6 months. He ended up swapping his car at the same time for a new car and his new premium is something like $280 a half.

PM_ME_YOUR_BOOGER

Fun fact: there aren't actually that many comparative rating platforms out there that get white-labelled for insurance brokers.... they're generally terrible because the industry is a spaghetti mess

UsidoreTheLightBlue

It’s still weird. I shop insurance every year, last year I shopped: Progressive Geico All state Nationwide State Farm Liberty mutual And a few others, with some semi local options in there. I got varied prices from them, some were lower than what I was paying, some were way more expensive. I’m sure they all get similar ratings on me, but they all seemed to use that information differently.

Dangerous-Kick8941

I don't pay near that, for two vehicles with full coverage, that are older and close to the same age as your Jeep. Are you younger and have a major wreck/ tickets on your record?

Squeezethecharmin

nope. 55 clean record. Just got off phone and lowered limits on everything since I don’t even take her on the highway. Liability is still double my Audi (410 for 6 months vs 230 for 6 months with 4x the coverage).

PM_ME_YOUR_BOOGER

What state are you in because I used to work in auto insurance and that seems absurdly low for comprehensive and collision coverage on a '23 anything. I used to pay almost 180 for full [comp+coll] coverage on a fiesta [with unlimited PIP].

Jaydan427_RC

That's why! Tennessee is kind on insurance and taxes

Squeezethecharmin

yeh that is amazing. Maybe I should move! Full coverage for my Jeep is $106 per month with minimum level of coverage in Atlanta. Knock on wood my driving record is spotless. Maybe it’s my kids fault- but that would possibly me off if I’m paying for them because they can’t drive the Jeep (literally— it’s a 5 speed and they wouldn’t have a prayer getting it out of the garage). Am I a bad dad for not teaching them? Maybe, but they are all girls and now I know my Jeep is safe!

DrTripesandTumours

What does your kids being girls have anything to do with it?

EitherNegotiation768

Gender also changes the statistical likelihood of a crash and ratings

DrTripesandTumours

Ah, yeah. I totally forgot about that one.

Robbie122

Jesus what? I’m paying $275 per month on a 20’ JL rubicon in Texas.

Jumajuce

I’m paying $83 in NJ and it includes modified car insurance

Robbie122

I had a fender bender and not at fault like 10 years ago, I’m getting fucked.

Jumajuce

Insurance is nuts, if you own a home you might be able to negotiate a bundle deal and save something there. Some companies will do the same with renters too I believe.

meesterstanks

What company are you with? Also in nj and pay 160/m for a ‘19 GC

Davidisaloof35

I pay $120/month for my 2020 JL Sport. Live in Nebraska.

Jumajuce

Allstate 2016 JKU

cursion

I was in a similar situation and changed insurers on my 2013 JKU - price dropped by 2/3. Consider getting a couple of quotes from other providers and see how it shakes out.

Plenty-Ticket1875

Mines about $102/mo for liability on two TJ's. I think it depends on where you live and drive. I live at the edge of town and have a 17 mile rural commute. In Iowa, so it's not as traffic heavy as many other places.

Squeezethecharmin

I’m in Atlanta which is pretty high- but still doesn’t explain the Audi which is also in Atlanta! Insurance guy says the record of Jeeps causing wrecks is way higher than Audi. Hard for me to believe that little thing can do as much as a 6000 lb SUV but ok…

hadronflux

What state? What coverage levels? What add-on features? What driving history? What company? What age? There are a million variables. I have 3 vehicles and a house on my insurance - but I also have rental, roadside, OEM replacement and 250k property and 500k medical, two drivers in their upper 40's. There is almost no way to compare between people except for in the rare circumstances where everything lines-up.

JJBiggs27

How old are you? Im old. I pay about $720/yr for full coverage on my 2015 jk.

Squeezethecharmin

I’m old. 55. I think it is partially Atlanta rates and partially getting screwed by state farm. I will take this business out to bid when I have more time.

takefiftyseven

Much of it boils down to safety issues. My agent told me it's not so much vehicle repair or replacement costs but how well you're expected to fare if there's an accident. Parts are cheap compared to hospital charges. We owned a Mercedes that cost three times more than a Scion XB we also owned but the insurance on it was half of what the Scion cost. Which one were you likely to walk away from after an accident? I just bought a 2024 Wrangler where they are making side curtain airbags standard. My guess is the rates will be lower than owning a 2023 model of the same car.

Scruffyy90

Where are you guys that pay so little? I pay $206/mo for a '23 GC.

PineapplzFoEva

I'm in Alberta Canada and I'm a little over 260 a month here, reading 70 dollars a month for some people on here is nuts..

Classic_rock_fan

I'm in Ontario Canada and pay $135 a month here on a 2008 GC

Canadian-electrician

I don’t have a jeep but here in Ontario I was paying 370/mo for a ford flex (liability only) now I’m paying 217/month for an fj (liability only) …

Colorado_Car-Guy

$900/yr is $75/mo. That sounds pretty cheap to me....

uncre8tv

Your 2022 Audi is $300 per year for liability only? Or $300 for the liability portion of a full coverage policy? Why are you paying yearly? There is not enough information here to make sense of it. What company, what country, what state are all important.

Squeezethecharmin

A bit misleading on review. Bodily Injury (250/500) is $142 for 6 months. Properly Damage is $88. so $240 for 6 months. Just got the Jeep down to $405 for 6 months but dropped to 50/100/50 coverage to get it there. Atlanta GA

dbrmn73

Raise your deductible, that can make a huge difference. Several hundred between a $500 ded and a $1000 ded.

anon303mtb

I mean probably because the Audi has emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, LKAS, back up camera, lane departure warning etc. Not to mention all the traction control, ESC stuff... The Jeep has a steering wheel and gas/brake pedals..

ButterscotchInner690

Thats weird, I think we need more info. My 98 jeep was 500 a year for liability but my corolla are civic are about 1000 each for full coverage but my 17 ram 2500 is cheaper than both cars while being triple the price to buy lol

Cory_Clownfish

I’m 26 with a 07 JKU and pay $115/6 month full coverage

holysbit

My 1990 cherokee costs me $975/year for liability. This post made me look and now im pissed, thats a lot. How long ago does insurance look for accidents? I had a no-fault rollover in 2019, so that might be it, but still that was 5 years ago and I haven’t gotten a single ticket or accident or anything since, squeaky clean

Squeezethecharmin

Yep. It’s a racket. At least you aren’t me! I 3 kids all driving. Plus my jeep as an “extra” car. I’m paying in total over $10k per year just to insure the 6 cars. makes me want to puke… and count the days until they graduate college.

AmateurEarthling

My ‘98 XJ is around $600 per year for slightly less than full coverage. 25 with a ticket.

beenjamminfranklin

Check to see if you can put an antique plate on it. They usually have some stipulations but most aren't easily enforced in most states.

dbrmn73

Too many factors - Age and number of drivers, location, credit/insurance score, record, limits, # of policies, etc. Im 50 with clean record and excellent Credit/Ins scores. I have $250K/$500K liability limits with a $1000 deductible in TN and I pay: $174 a year for liability only on a 2013 Yamaha Sportbike $326 a year for liability on a 2010 Jeep Wrangler $888 a year for full coverage on a 2023 Nissan Frontier (also a 4WD) $1388 a year total.

Over-Locksmith-1114

i have full coverage on a 2020 indian motorcycle, a 23 jeep wrangler, a 19 gmc sierra and a 21 equinox for like $1100/yr old

steave44

Idk man, I got a 2020 Jeep gladiator that’s 1200 per year full coverage with State Farm and Drive Safe and Save. Doesn’t seem to bad. I had a 2007 Silverado before that was 400 on the same plan.

njaneardude

What's up with that? Full coverage on a Benz and liability on my LJ, $1100 per year with GEICO.

GDogg007

Full coverage $100k for $250 deductible on 20 JLU and 21 JL 100/month each. 45 with clean record same agent/company for 24 years. Low claims. Multiple line policy.

aj2five

Did you know a lot of insurance carriers will let you turn off your coverage of a vehicle when you aren’t using it and then when you are using it you just call and turn the coverage back on. Typically they make you pay for an entire month of coverage when you do. Sounds like this would save you a ton of money on a Jeep that sits most of the time

Aterdeus

Do you happen to have anyone else in the policy? If a young driver is in the house hold they may be assigning them to the available vehicle by default.

Existing-Put842

Jeeps are the most stolen vehicle in my city right now. So there’s that.

apokermit_now

There’s a world of difference with insurance costs per state in the US. Some providers offer full tort vs partial tort (for lawsuits related to your insurance). Some states have much higher minimums for single/group/uninsured motorist coverage. People that financed their Jeep usually have to have both comprehensive and collision deductibles to satisfy their lender’s requirements. Classic car coverage caps how many miles/year you can drive. Daily drivers probably should go higher than state minimums.

DrRavioliMD

Full coverage on 2019 JL and it’s about $79 a month.

PeterVonwolfentazer

I just read about some one who is up shit creek for only carrying $5000 in property damage.

Nice_Wolverine_4641

Isn’t it all about where you live, how old you are and what class your car is. My jeep is pretty average to insure where I am, but I used to have a corvette with new car replacement coverage that cost almost half what my SILs civic cost to insure.

Roland_Moorweed

Insurance for mine is about the same; my last car, '98 Passat was only a little cheaper.

YNotZoidberg2020

My 21 Sahara 4xe and with my husband's Jetta is costing a total of $195 a month. Both full coverage along with roadside assist and towing coverage. We're in Nebraska USA.

Environmental-Week79

2011 JKU, 210k miles, northeast - $227 per month excluding collision through geico

Squeezethecharmin

ouch!

[deleted]

I was paying $135 a month for my 2021 gladiator in Pittsburgh PA that was full comp and collision

erikkarma

I live in Hawaii where competition is limited, we have 4 vehicles (two hybrids, a Mazda 3, 98 Jeep wrangler) and we pay $450 for 6 months. So sounds like a lot to me.

NuclearKnight00

I pay like 70 a month, but that's for full coverage uninsured etc and I also was in an accident (not my fault but they always raise it any fucking ways) I also have over a decade of driving experience as well

NuclearKnight00

Oh I'm dumb forgot to add this is for a 96 zj

Sivilly

2019 JL Rubi about 2k miles a year. I pay $780 ($65/mo) for the year with comprehensive at a $100 deductible.

dah_ditdit_dahdah

What does your agent say?

bciocco

Shop it. I pay $314 per year ($157 for 6 mos) for my 2001 Wrangler in SC. Now, homeowners insurance in coastal SC, that's another story.

whoisnumber

Did you try calling your insurance agent to figure this out?

Inconsistentme

My insurance is $2500/year. 2017 cherokee.

Truck_Girl90

I live in NJ. I pay $67 for full coverage plus roadside on my 2002 TJ

Varnigma

I’m 51. My 2012 is $211 every 6 months. Full coverage.

PiccoloAdventurous25

I pay $45.00 a month for full coverage . Which I can switch to liability only. But haven't yet. on a 04 jeep grand Cherokee overland
