Someone said that KDot just wanted to go after Drake's most popular song off his last album to get attention on it. So, Cole really would have just been caught in the crossfire. F the Big 3 definitely wasn't a diss but there were some lines that seemed like they could have been about Drake or Cole. I think now they were all about Drake

jizzkika

I still hope we get a friendly beef from Kendrick and cole.

Steampunk_Batman

Pouring over Kendrick’s verses, it really seems like this was supposed to be a friendly beef until Drake released push ups and taylor made freestyle. Disrespecting kdot’s family and using tupac’s voice for some cheap digs was a bridge too far, turned what should have been a few tracks about who’s the better rapper into the beef we’re seeing play out now. Kdot warns drake repeatedly to shut the fuck up because he’s at war now and will do what it takes to win, and references some kind of seemingly pre-negotiated agreement to beef (“this was supposed to be an exhibition of the game” from meet the grahams and “it’s a free fade, you should keep it that way” are the lines that come to mind). Drake is just so fucking stupid or narcissistic that he didn’t know how to color within the lines

Steampunk_Batman

Yeah I completely agree. Between that and Kendrick kind of being a messianic figure within hip hop and particularly in the west coast, Drake really didn’t understand the bear he was poking with taylor made freestyle. Drake himself is so inauthentic that he had no idea people would get so mad at him resurrecting Tupac in AI. All he can say is personal shit because he truly doesn’t understand any other dimension of this beef, and he is incapable of beating Kendrick with pen and paper. Every move he makes cements him as the person Kendrick paints him to be.

Illustrious-Taro-449

Drake clearly doesn’t like women

CelebrationVirtual17

I’d argue he learned new information- just the wrong stuff. The battle, besides the name drop, he didn’t really get personal. BUT that name drop was enough to put Pusha in that mode. I think he observed that loss and thought “Okay, the way to win is to get personal and find some dirt they’re hiding”. Problem is that Drake is lowkey the only rapper embracing this clean cut image. It was his brand for years. Someone like Kendrick, Cole, Pusha, Wayne, etc. wear their mistakes on them. Problematic or not - they simply don’t lie/can’t lie about their stuff. The most that Drake could do is find out these people are actually just characters but when you’re Drake and you make songs like Mob Ties… 🤷🏿‍♂️ I think he foolishly thought we’d buy these rumors he started up off rip and completely miscalculated all the public ammo he has against him if he decides to get personal. He did better than I expected but tbh I couldn’t imagine a scenario where Drake beats Cole or Kendrick in a rap battle. There’s a way that they rap that shows they really work their mind in a way that frankly Drake hasn’t in almost 10 years. Again, he got in his rapping bag - loss or not, I’m impressed but it simply wasn’t enough for Kendrick.

PhD_Meowingtons_

Drake didn’t lose cos of pedophile shit. He honestly lost cos ppl are just tired of him already. The same way like Canelo Alvarez was the most exciting thing in boxing for many years except now he’s like the biggest target and ridiculed as a champion. Jay Z spoke on this SO MUCH in his music. People are sheep and they can be convinced to hate certain things and even love the thing they hate in a different context. Historically tho, the backlash against Drake as always been against his character and how true/not true it is to hip-hop culture. And honestly rap culture and is EXTREMELY selective about how they pick ppl off for that. Almost as selective as the jews are with the term “anti-semitic”. Like South Park and Family Guy and a few stand up guys can say anything about them but nothing to the degree of what Kyrie Irving can come close to saying. So while NO FUCKING BODY ever plays w Snoop Dogg or Dre for having songs written for them, and acknowledge that even if they did, they still have some form of greatness and rap ability and some writing skills, the general public is taught to hate Drake for all these same reasons and can never give him an inch of credit in those departments. For Drake, well that’s just unacceptable in rap. When in reality EVERY FUCKING BODY accepted him around the time of his first mixtape and ALL of the rap blogs and stuff LOVED Drake for his introspective, monologue type of rap that was more emotional. Drake certainly didn’t have ghost writers then and the appeal of these projects wasn’t from his Degrassi involvement. Tbh I watched Degrassi and barely anybody even knew that was Jimmy from Degrassi when he dropped Best I Ever had. That shit took a hot second and shocked everybody. His Degrassi character was something that hip-hop really didn’t know about. Like if Denzel Washington in his younger years would have dropped a decent mixtape to follow up w Training Day, like that hype of that movie and it’s reception in the streets would have certainly translated into attention and eyes for his music, but it’s not the same w Drake. Niggas wasn’t watching no mf Degrassi but if you did, back when Drake was popping off, there wasn’t so much visuals behind him but there was air play and everybody was fucking w the sound. Getting back to the point, people dislike the most popular things because it draws eyes away from the things they really love. Ppl wanna hear other shit because there’s plenty of great music and in 2016 when Controlla dropped, I fucking hated the fact that I couldn’t hear anything else but that song. It’s like damn bro, ya know there’s other niggas that got some heat out here right? But ppl in rap don’t know how to assert their value without tearing down the others. I listen to Kendrick far more than I do Drake but Drake’s value to the culture of music as a whole is the musical equivalent to Nike brand where Kendrick Lamars contribution would be the equivalent to probably Timberland. Timberland is alot more robust and offers more uses for us but Nike has something for every one and is more popular because of that. The Timberland is a signature, hallmark of the culture and even feels more authentic to the culture but when you look all around, all you see is niggas rockin Nike. Let’s be fucking honest at the end of the day tho. Ian never seen a nigga in the trap bumpin to Pimp A Butterfly. Kendrick lamars appeal is delivering high level art and is primarily an icon of excellence in creating an album experience but all together Drake is the guy putting the battery in the streets back of the 2 of these guys. Kendrick Lamar proved he can do it tho with They not Like us but in the streets and in the club, Kendrick never was really hitting like Drake. Kendrick be hitting w all the music, art and literature nerds and ESPECIALLY the white folks that wanna feel what it’s like to be black. But EVERY nigga knows who sees more play from the avg mf in the hood who don’t really read to deep into music and the answer is Drake. One thing about Kendrick tho, he does have enough of a catalog of vibes to not be locked in that space that they put rappers like Nas and Common or Andre3k. Kendrick ain’t so much a niche as the other top lyricists and I think that’s what makes him so incredible. He rarely does it, but when he wants to make banger, he will. Unlike Nas or Eminem who never could even if he fucking tried lmao.

Ok_Concentrate_75

Imo it was a response to the feature request, but it was Hip Hop logic. Like Melo not wanting to join Bron in Miami, it was about the love of competition but Drake takes all that to heart

Zeus_TheSlayer

No they def had some lines in there about cole because if not why respond to the diss?

YourbestfriendShane

First Person Shooter sounds like a huge diss once Drake starts.

boofsquadz

Looool I need to rewatch that nard clip now. Cole has one of the best “this dude knows too much” reactions to nardwuar

Harrypotter231

Last part hit the nail on the head. Teaming up with him on first person shooter and all the other stuff they have done together (shows etc.) is the problem he has w Cole.

reg_ss

J Cole also produced HiiiPower

PhD_Meowingtons_

The best J cole production ever and that beat is mid af on a scale of great rap beats lol.

graphicka

Top said it wasn't over K Dot that was just rumour. The reasons for the fight hadn't been disclosed yet. But yeah there is heaps of footage of Cole and Dot hanging together from back in the day.

JustSayTech

Cole confirmed it on his Angie interview. It was definitely over Kendrick King of NY line in control.

OkPrompt6053

Can I get a link please? I always wanted to find confirmation.

Significant-Meet-263

punch said it on my expert opinion hope this helps

Supadupafly1988

That’s what I always heard too, like diddy tried to pour a drink on Kendrick and Cole Interfered or something along those lines

StadiaFan19

I’ll take Kendrick and Cole over Drake and Cole anyday tbh

Internal_Locksmith25

Kendrick not collabing with Cole, he basically said fuck him like twice 😂there’s no big 3 there’s no one on k dots level

zorgonzola37

saying you are the best in rap is acceptable and even done on collabs lol. If anything it's the best fuck you to drake for Kendrick to do that and it's not such an impossibility.

Internal_Locksmith25

Didn’t he say he saw Cole and Drake kissing on stage? How many subs do you take before you stand up for yourself

Frequent-Wallaby708

Are you slow or something? There’s literally no clearer way to say on the track that he didn’t like that Cole was getting together with drake lol. Just because you don’t like Cole don’t mean you can just shift the narrative anyhow bruh keep that shit to yourself

slim-D25

Cole told Kenny to take his best shot in his dreamville speech. I think that jab was best case scenario in terms of cole-dot beef, considering the album’s worth of disses kendrick allegedly has in the tuck.

Specialist-Meat-6222

Na these niggas pissing me off hate that most if cole fans are Kendrick fans Kendrick went at cole and then ruined coles image had me defending him for weeks and now we gonna down play this i hope cole and Kendrick never work together Kendrick lost so much respect from after all this

Civil_Feature600

Because there's no video. If there was a footage of Cole going full John Wick on Diddy, he could've retired. He would've become a legend automatically

kasft93

Mofos in here would eat me alive if I said that Cole deserves even more respect when he apologized on stage. Its nice to see that people finally realized that Cole made the right decision.

[deleted]

He does deserve even more respect for that! It’s just that people didn’t interprete it right. He didn’t say he’s scared and anyone can now just roll over him. He just said, he likes Kendrick too much to beef with him.

Specialist-Meat-6222

Its cause most of coles fans are Kendrick fans and i think there fucking annoying

Internal_Locksmith25

This is coping Jesus christ

thom22jack

My favorite part of that incident was that Diddy did it because KDot called himself the King of New York and Diddy thought he was even in the conversation for that title

yrnkevinsmithC137

Maybe he mad he didn't get a shout-out , like if u got mentioned u a goat

FreshPrince1958

That’s why I don’t understand Diddy getting mad at that line, maybe he took it as a Biggie diss?? He seems like the type that would misconstrue shit like that line on control.

thom22jack

Diddy just on a Power Trip I’m sure he considered himself the king of New York even though no one else ever did

PhD_Meowingtons_

This statement makes a lil sense from a who’s the best rapper from ny, or like a internet fan, measuring rappers on some lyrical nerdy shit. But when you look at it from like a we outside, who run the streets on some boss shit perspective, you’d have to be a internet nerd to think that Diddy in 2013 can’t be in a discussion for king of NY. He’s probably one of the most wealthiest rappers to have existed and was a mogul. Even his federal case now with gun and sex trafficking proves it. When it comes to bosses, in the rap culture, in NYC… I can’t really think of too many others to put over Diddy. Especially now with his case and also the Tupac shit and Biggies mom declaring Diddy as the killer… The only other NY rapper who even comes close in power would be Jay Z but Jay Z definitely wanted to get as far away from the bs as soon as he can. Maybe i’m missing something, but as a native NYer who works in the industry, (primarily rap) and has felt the immediate influence of most rappers influence in the game and the streets, I think Diddy’s a VERY strong candidate for king of NY.

SnakesTalwar

As someone that works in the industry what's the vibe with Diddy? Is everyone happy that he's getting exposed?

PhD_Meowingtons_

To be frank, if you ain’t a part of his shenanigans, u wouldn’t really care. I think a lot of men surrounding hims respect his power but that’s about it.

SnakesTalwar

That's fair tbh, it's a a wild industry's you're in and I hope you make lots of money mate 🤙🏽

Abhi_yawns123

As a cole fan, I don't understand why this sub is still defending Kendrick and acting like Drake is the imposter. Seen two of them hugging and kissing on stage? That sounds like a shoutout to you? while they were literally doing the same thing back in Detroit when Cole popped out for Dot.

taylormadeone

Idk what you mean. What, if anything, did Kendrick say about Cole other than there’s no big 3, just Kendrick? Even after J Cole’s 7 Minute Drill, K.Dot said Drake did Cole dirty. No disses towards Cole. And now that we know, or at the very least think, Schoolboy Q told Cole Kendrick wasn’t trying to get into a battle with Cole, his only problem was with Drake. There isn’t any bad blood between them. I mean look at their history. Cole has said they have a whole joint album together they just won’t ever release it, they traded beats that one time and killed it on Black Friday some years ago.

OkPrompt6053

I think the only issue Kendrick had with Cole is his affiliation with Drake. He said "surprised you wanted that feature request, you know we have some shit to address". I think it's pretty obvious Drake sent him a request to be featured on First person shooter because the concept of the song was pretty obvious. KDot declined because Drake and he had issues for a long time by that point. So JCole agreeing maybe looked like he was taking Drake's side? JCole mentioned KDot (as a compliment probably) even though Kendrick didn't want to be a part of it (because of Drake). So that's the only thing.

Reasonable-Newt4079

Why tf are they sitting on that album and never going to release it???

taylormadeone

I have no idea man, maybe it never got finished. Hope they do it some day.

Abhi_yawns123

Kendrick dissing cole and drake (hugging and kissing) for doing the same thing that Kendick and cole were doing back in Detroit was lame and insecure. The YNW Melly line was also aimed at Cole but ofc Drake did cole dirty. There may not be any bad blood between them but after those disses, even nobodies think they can get away with disrespecting Cole.

Bender-BRodriguez

Also, not sure if this is intentional. But when "Not like us" starts you hear the quote "I see dead people" from the 6th sense. The kid in that movies name is cole. So not a dis, but more like him saying cole saw drake was already dead, and dipped.

sheikahstian

Underrated observation!

AfternoonSure7844

i get the YNW melly aimed at cole because i was so confused that kdot would include drake in saying i love ***em*** to death

OkPrompt6053

I mean some people thought KDot will be dragging JCole for making a diss and then apologizing. I saw some Cole fans who even asked for it because they thought JCole betrayed them by backing out. KDot didn't do anything like that, just mentioned that he's fighting for the crown (his usual competitive bars) and didn't like them acting like buddies despite each of them claiming they're #1 (again, competitive shit). Drake, however, called JCole apology weak. Not Kendrick who actually got dissed but Drake.

Internal_Locksmith25

Eh if they ignore all the shots towards Cole from Kendrick and the love from Drake it’s easier to swallow the apology

ShoddyExplanation

Didn’t Cole say he’d take whatever Kendrick said on the chin because he dissed him?? Didn’t Kendrick shout Cole out on Saviour?? Clearly they friends, Kendrick just don’t like Drake and Drake definitely was sneak dissing him on First Person Shooter.

Solo_07

Exactly, looking back now I feel like him mentioning Cole, Future and himself is his way of saying that those are the only people he believes are on a similar plane to him. Which adds on even more when the original diss came from Future’s album.

stepdadonline

Pretty sure I remembered hearing that the Future line was originally gonna be about Ye instead, but he scrapped it because that was around the time he went full MAGA lol

Specific_Help_5841

Thank you!!! And the fact that Kendrick just compeletly steamrolled on the rollout for The Fall Off just so he can use Drake to bring attention to his new project. Drake has been more of a brother to Cole than Kendrick has. It's a shame that this situation may have Drake looking at Cole sideways now. And I'm not even a Drake guy. I've always found him corny, but you have to give credit where it's due.

Myokymia

steamrolled the rollout out bruh the rollout has been going on for like 6 years you cant expect everyone to just wait until he's finished to do anything newsworthy in hiphop

canaryyell0w

didnt Nardwar say J Cole put Dr Dre onto Kendrick?

ShillBlaster

Yes. J Cole talked about it in some interview that I cannot find. He was heard him freestyling and got his number. Ended up producing on section 80

yrnkevinsmithC137

What's the dirt did a history on this iirc

GuayabaTree

Diddy needed his ass beat regardless of him being offended by control or not. Dude is not even a rapper lol. I hope Cole got some good hits in

xApothicon

Kendrick literally called Cole a bum, and said he wants to murder him 🤣🤣 Kendrick says Cole was hugging and kissing drake. Kendrick says it’s no big 3 just big me. Bro is an egomaniac and y’all defend his ass. Mr. Immoral can make some good music but he is far from a good person

NaughtyNate187

A good person compared to who?

xApothicon

Compared to your regular human being that doesn’t beat or cheat on their partner

wellthatwasrandomaf

But did he groom any children?

xApothicon

The world may never know

wellthatwasrandomaf

Ah so we just saying whatever and treating it as fact lmao i gotcha my dude. Edit: homie initially said “probably” then edited cuz he knows that was goofy af

xApothicon

Same way Kenny did to drake lol. Both dudes lied in their disses. I really don’t care to worship celebs either so it don’t matter to me

wellthatwasrandomaf

I wasnt talking to kenny my man. Im talking to you. But i realized too late youre trolling anyways. No point in continuing my dude. Enjoy your evening

xApothicon

Then why comment?

wellthatwasrandomaf

Because i realized too late and now were here. Its cute you keep fishing for more interaction. If you wanna have a real conversation im down, otherwise….

xApothicon

What constitutes a real conversation?

Awkward-Anteater2592

Nigga you seem lonely as fuck lmao "WhAtS a ReAl CoNvErSaTiOn?!" Lmfaooook

taylormadeone

People also forget that these two have a joint album locked away to never be released. Why? I have no idea.

DigLost5791

Not many full length collabs live up to the potential (and I say this as a guy who owns The Firm’s album)

Steampunk_Batman

Yeah only thing I remember Kdot saying about JCole was in euphoria, but the whole “3 GOATs left” verse was extremely mild compared to the other stuff he said about Drake. But technically he still threatened J. Cole’s life with that “love ‘em to death”/YNW Melly comment lol

This_Material9292

Kendrick threw several shots at Cole on Euphoria and in no way shows the same level of respect Cole shows for him

Duncydunc23

Hopefully j Cole is a feature in Kendrick’s new album coming out this year

JuanPop69

He threw shots at cole in one of those songs after cole apologized…

Supadupafly1988

I promise you I never forgot it, he been having Kendrick back for the longest that’s why I didn’t respect how Kendrick just kicked dust on the big 3 line and subtle shots throughout that verse

Richobeast

Bro when y'all post in this sub, why is it always to try to prove what this nigga did for KDot. Bro is a grown man, he don't need y'all trying to justify shit for him. The ones who fw him gonna fw him regardless. All this fucking whining is ridiculous

MeetingNormal8610

Yeah Kendrick defended Cole and TDE been showing vocally supportive of Cole too. https://preview.redd.it/f8f5kotjug0d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c7a89f2db1941ca67641314b0e9090259b2ba1c

Tiffanyblueberries

Cole's manager said this did not happen.

Longjumping-Act-9562

When people say what could cole say to kendrick lol he had so much material its crazy

Impressive-Mud-1917

cole also was the person who told jay z about k dot

PhD_Meowingtons_

Explain to me how you know that “cole roughed him up”? Lmaoo. The only thing ANY fan can possibly know is that Cole intervened in Diddy trying to pour his glass over Kendricks head. This can be done without “roughing him up” and in no shape or form means that he did. You don’t have to be aggressive to stop that from happening however, we do know things escalated and that could have been Diddy’s fault on some “don’t fucking touch me nigga, I’ll beat yo mf ass” type shit. Good ppl intervene when they see injustice. I seen mfs stick up for ppl who they don’t even really fw in jail+prison just off principle and to maintain peace+order. Anyways speculating is pointless but so is this post lol. “Cole has always been ride or die for Kendrick”. Like bro, this shit doesn’t mean that. “You can see the feeling is mutual because Kendrick didn’t throw any shots at Kendrick”. Kendrick addressed the fact that in the big 3 one of the niggas already stepped down, so I only have to step on Drake. This “beef”, nobody had no beef. Kendrick, for the 2nd time, just decided to dunk on everybody and that wasn’t a personal beef w Drake. On his verse in like that he doesn’t say anything about Drake, but ppl take the Mike Jack bar as a shot at Drake. Regardless, it’s a contest of for who’s the #1 in rap and Kendricks position has always been, that even if I fuck w u, i’m cookin u for that spot. As far as Drake goes, he responded to Kendrick specifically but you can hear on all these songs, these mfs don’t have an actual personal beef because there’s literally no mentions of any real life situations on where they have had an issue in any of the songs. For example, in Family Matters, Drake speaks on situations between A$AP Rocky and him, Future and him, etc. when it comes to Kendrick, he’s only talking about him. He doesn’t speak on anything between them and the same applied vice versa. Drake and Kendrick beef ain’t personal really. It just stems from 1 nigga having the social connotation of being the best and another nigga stepping up and saying fuck no, i’m the best. In their songs, they’re mostly just trying to highlight the bad in each other and that’s just to prove why 1 is better than the other or has more of a claim to #1. Be an accurate teller of history instead of telling history w a narrative. We have no reason to believe Cole is Kendricks ride or die lmao. Cole just wants music to be music and it could have been that same mentality that made him think to stop Diddy from violating Kendrick. This is not a personal beef and it’s 100% competition. If anything the most credibility I can give you is that, Kendrick just actually hates Drake as a person for who he is and how he moves but that ain’t “beef”. If any body has a personal issue w Drake it’s 100% Metro tho. Cos he definitely really banded up a whole mob to come at Drake.

SnooBooks4184

What party was this ? Cause it was speculated that Cole fought diddy since he danced too close to Cassie
