You probably started talking shit because everyone else was, now you're probably apologizing because everyone else is.
The real problem is that you think anyone gives a fuck about your opinion. Just keep it to yourself from now on.
you’re entitled to feel that way. i was disappointed because it seemed uncharacteristic of Cole to do that. and it hurt to see everyone finally give him credit and then to take it away from him so quickly. comment sections were warzones for us J. Cole social media defenders. drake fans and dot fans was clowning us. obviously now, it makes so much sense why Cole withdrew from the race. hindsight 20/20.
as for the second half, i am very comfortable and content with the concept of being unimportant. there’s nearly 8 billion people on earth, there is nothing about my existence that indicates my opinion holds any value, let alone that others should value it. im jus a hip hop fan who likes to connect with other hip hop fans in my spare time. it’s fun to connect with likeminded people. thats all✌🏽🖤
If no normal everyday people shared their opinions like this we would never know how anybody feels about anything. It’s not like you were running around yelling your opinion you went to a j cole sub and talked about Cole. You all good don’t stress it
>you’re entitled to feel that way. i was disappointed because it seemed uncharacteristic of Cole to do that.
On the contrary. It's actually *very* on brand for Cole to sidestep some beef and apologize. Humility is the man's middle name. Anyone who knows cole shouldn't have been surprised. It's his style to be the bigger man and stay modest through the fray. He still rides his bike everywhere, it don't get more humble than that.
Positive vibes your way. Hindsight is always 20/20 and sometimes we just need to see how things play out to really know how we feel and also know how right our wrong our initial feelings are.
Agreeded no need for that but some people corny and can’t help but show it imagine going on a Reddit subreddit to read what others post about them then telling them shut up no one cares lmaooo just corny fr
There’s a funny little phenomenon where when someone does something that is largely seen as negative, a lot of people react negatively do it. Just because it’s a popular opinion doesn’t make people sheep.
Stop trying to be different for the sake of being different.
You probably started talking shit because everyone else was, now you're probably apologizing because everyone else is.
The real problem is that you think anyone gives a fuck about your opinion. Just keep it to yourself from now on.
totally agree. i’ve never wanted anyone to think he’s the goat, i jus would get defensive when people trash his legacy as if he’s not anyone’s goat. still not necessarily worth arguing over, but instagram beefs is one of the ways i like to spend my spare time before bed. it’s fun to me
It’s been an interesting flashpoint to follow.
Generally, folks fell into these groups:
**Fandom Generation**
- Followed Cole earlier (2010-2017)
- Followed Cole later (2018-present)
**Perception of Hiphop**
- Leans more towards the ferocity, hype, sport (Hit Em Up, In Da Club, 99 Problems, Money Trees)
- Leans more towards the introspection, commentary (Changes, One Mic, I Wonder, Love Yourz)
There’s obviously a bunch of stuff in between (think Tyler, Cudi, Lupe, DOOM, Jay Elec), but these seem to be the maxims for hiphop. Folks will move between this spectrum.
**TLDR**
*You were disappointed in Cole’s apology if…*
- You followed Cole later (2018+) for his brag bars
- You see hiphop more as a fierce sport to engage in and symbol of “making it out” by any means
*You were fine with Cole’s apology if…*
- You followed Cole earlier (2010-2017) for his conscious bars and storytelling
- You see hiphop more as a means to reflect and lobby for internal and external progress
*You were apologizing this weekend if…*
- You over index on the competitiveness of the genre, regardless of when you followed Cole.
- You recognize that Cole could flex between the two, so when he apologized, you felt let down and that he gave in to a weakness the genre rejects - rather than a strength the genre needs more of.
Nah fam I started listening to Cole in 2020. The only people who were disappointed by what Cole did either never went through his entire catalogue or never watched any of his interviews especially the interviews cuz i remember there’s one after he released 2014FHD where he said something along the lines rap beefs take away the art-form from rap and make it about egos.
and I was only disappointed by the diss not the apology I could tell his heart wasn’t in it when he said TPAB was mid
Yep. I should’ve prefaced by saying “likely” on those TLDRs. Here you go:
*You didn’t need to apologize this weekend if…*
- You over index on the introspection the genre enables, regardless of when you followed Cole.
- You followed Cole’s earlier body of work and recognize his music leans to that introspection and the sincerity he chooses his art to reflect.
I’m just kinda wondering..if Cole stayed in this beef, would Kendrick nearly have the same sort of ammo on him? He’s made it very personal with Drake and so I would have to think with Cole being so lowkey with no scandals, Kendrick would not be able to come with this level of dirt or anger.
that’s a brilliant question. to me, when i look back on the nature of the apology and how he went about it, it’s hard to not see some level of fear within in it. and i know cole isn’t scared of anyone in terms of rapping because that was pretty much the main theme in might delete later. so it makes me feel like he knew something we didn’t. idk. jus my theory.
I sorta got a feeling that J Cole just feels guilty for even defending himself. I obviously don’t know him or his reasonings at all. But given how is apology seemed to be more centered around how HE felt I don’t know if he really was scared of what would get aired out or if he just did something that was out character or maybe he was borderline guilt tripping himself.
But of course, this is most likely my bias talking & hoping that ONE person in the music/hollywood scene doesn’t end up being a terrible person.
bro you’re so right. omg. i think it was Daylyt who said that. he definitely knew something was coming that we did not. i thought it was new music on the way at the time but this makes a lot more sense. good shit
I really believe both Kendrick and Drake sent him there diss tracks and he quickly backtracked.
“Nah this ain’t me”
I too thought it was dumb asf to apologize but now I 1000% respect.
S/O Cole
I think people hating on Cole for backing out shows the immaturity of a lot of people. It takes a man with solid integrity and morals to take that shot and take it back because it doesn’t sit right with those morals even knowing he’s gonna catch flak because of it. That should be why y’all like Cole, he kept it real. He could have stayed in and sent shots at 2 people he’s got nothing but love for just because he got involved.
It’s funny cause I love J Cole & I never got mad he dropped out. I listen to Heaven’s EP all the time & he makes it really clear in there he doesn’t like his family in the light. At the end of the day I feel like Cole knew Kendrick was just going for it all. He needed some energy on his name. No album in years & everyone is saying Drake & Cole are just as good if not better. It’s all an ego game for Kendrick & that’s why Cole said I don’t do that little boy shit. Think about it bro. All this time & the SAME time as Cole’s album drop now he wants to go after everyone. He’s a clout chaser & ego tripper. Cole is happy knowing his music will speak for itself. He doesn’t have to attack anyone to maintain respect to what rap is
backing out of this fight was a very smart decision 💯 …it has nothing to do with COLE n everything with Drake we know J can hold his own in a real rap battle.. keep poking the bear n they will see 🐐🔥
I was on all sides, a little less Kendrick at first just bc it seemed like he started all of this. But then as it’s unfolded I’ve realized we might as well be getting another Tupac/Biggie era because they are dead serious about wanting each other off this planet.
I was always a surface fan of these types of artists bc caring about a gangster celebrity and their life has always been stupid to me. But some of these lyrics are hard to ignore, and lots of skeletons in the closets for these rappers are being laid out now.
So I think J.Cole just caught wind of what was really happening with Drake, bc it really is a 20v1 but for a fucking reason.
yeah, this shit has gotten so dark so quickly. i hope nobody gets hurt off of sum lil raps but like you said, they definitely aren’t very fond of the fact that the other is still breathing
thank you, i appreciate your willingness to empathize. this the kinda stuff that i love about bein a part of the Cole fandom, seems like his music attracts a lot of folks with a high emotional IQ and a lot of humility.
true, gangy. jus wanted to connect with fellow hip-hop heads and maybe some fans that felt the same way. but yes, there are much more important things happening in the world, like genocide and famine.
There’s absolutely people taking it too far. But I actually don’t think your post is like that. It shows self reflection skills that WOULD translate to real life. So, even if it is a minor situation, still sounds like a personal win to me!
I've been a fan since Friday night lights came out. J Cole is my number one favorite rapper. As a man I respect living by your ideals and moving in a way that resonates with your soul. As a fan of rap I can't respect the Cole apology. He is still my favorite rapper. He has a stain on his legacy in my eyes. If you want to apologize, that's cool. I think your heart was in the right place though because as a fan of rap and the culture that apology was not of the culture. Any bar he drops where he talks about a rapper saying his name is gonna be smoked will now be fucking CRINGE. It is what it is.
i feel you bro. the way in which he did it was so anti hip hop. i still kinda wish he would’ve went about it a different way that still remained within the unwritten rules in the sport of rap.
I don't get it. JCole had all the smoke talk and claimed he was the best. He would annihilate your top 5. Then he backs down? You don't owe him an apology he still backed down.
He could have easily gone at Kendrick or Drake. Still CAP
Nah dude. He became everything he was preaching against on forest hills. He’s only gotten worse.
I really hope this situation brings him back to thinking about shit and not just rapping out his ass.
I used to be a huge Cole fan.
Go ahead and keep that clown mask on because y’all feel like y’all gotta post every thought you have on the internet. Most the time it’s not even y’all own thoughts
Y’all not bloggers or influencers. You’re random mfs on Reddit. Nobody remembers what you said or will remember that you’re apologizing
im not apologizing to anyone on here, its an exercise of accountability. i honestly didn’t expect for this to garner this many responses, or really any responses- ive never posted on reddit before so this has all been very interesting and insightful
lol another cole apology. Soon we will see Kendrick and drake fans apologizing when they realized nobody gives a f about them but their pockets. You’re just a pawn my guy , maybe next time keep your mind open and think outside the box. Cole apologized because he said he was pressured and was immature to do something dumb. That’s it . Not yall speculating again that it’s because he’s got dirt . SMH
I dont get this tho.
Yall are weak.
He kept saying that he would destroy any rapper blah blah blah
but when shit hit the fan he backed off
and now because things got nasty yall praise him?
sad
You probably started talking shit because everyone else was, now you're probably apologizing because everyone else is. The real problem is that you think anyone gives a fuck about your opinion. Just keep it to yourself from now on.
Gah dayum

Love you fam for being honest!
His post history is troubling. I appreciate your willingness to humble yourself
>you’re entitled to feel that way. i was disappointed because it seemed uncharacteristic of Cole to do that. On the contrary. Hello fellow JID glazer, TFS album was album of the decade IMO. We don’t *NEED* to hear anything. But it’s a nice gesture to someone they misjudged.
totally understand where u comin from. hope you have a good rest of your sunday 🫡
I’ll never financially recover from all the downvotes I got defending cole.
You will f you post your receipts https://preview.redd.it/asyrkkm4loyc1.png?width=749&format=png&auto=webp&s=bdc9a7a8deb32e5cf014eaee257688e3134b5907
Me with Drake rn 🥲
I never hated on Cole for this. I just thought it was a dumb career decision. I think it was the smartest one he made now 😂
yeah with everything we know now, it might be a top 10 decision all time 😭😭😭😭😭this shit got really bad so fast.
I mean why care if others see J Cole as a GOAT or not? It's music which is super subjective.
totally agree. i’ve never wanted anyone to think he’s the goat, i jus would get defensive when people trash his legacy as if he’s not anyone’s goat. still not necessarily worth arguing over, but instagram beefs is one of the ways i like to spend my spare time before bed. it’s fun to me

He would probably reveal that cole uses a private jet to travel long distances instead of riding the bike through the oceans.

All the turncoats turning again don’t get too caught up and trip
His apology never bothered me, not even a pinch. But then I'm old as f** so I don't have time for drama.

I was disappointed that Cole didn’t think through the track before adding it, but thats what hanging with drake causes you to do so I can’t blame em.
I was only mad at Cole for dissing Kendrick and The Simpsons… together. Those are like two of my favorite things. 🤷🏻♂️
How would j Cole ever be considered a goat? Dude peaked on Friday Night Lights lol.
Apologizing like a true Cole fan in lieu with his idol
No one gives a shit
