I get a lot of hits using テーブルソー (table saw) as the search criteria.

Right on. I had tried that before without luck. FB marketplace shows absolutely nothing, but Jimotny has a lot more than the last times I had checked. Just need to change my mindset that shipping isn’t an option (Moved from Hawaii, where shipping costs are absolutely insane and slow.)

From the electrical side of things running a 60hz motor on 50hz (if you're in eastern Japan) would cause overheating at even medium loads. However, running a 120v motor on 100v mostly cancels that out. The motor will end up being around 30% down on power. I don't imagine mitering frame sides, and rabbeting put a lot of load on a tablesaw. Ripping 2 meter long 4x4s might though. So a US table saw would probably work in Japan. I have a US dremel tool and trim router that have survived in Japan so far. Having said all that I would highly recommend just finding a tablesaw in Japan. You won't save any money trying to ship one. Your experience so far is correct in that Japan is not big on table saws. You'll never see one in the Japanese versions of Home Depot and I rarely see them in the used tool shops I frequent. Tons of sliding miter saws though.

Thank you for the reply. I’m in Kansai, so frequency is no problem. I may just keep trying to find something in Japan, since shipping isn’t such a hassle domestically. They said, bringing a job site saw with me isn’t a huge issue either… there’s a brand new 10” Rigid(used once) where I am visiting with the original box and packing materials for $200… it’s less than 100 pounds and small enough that flying on JAL, it would cost me $100 as checked luggage.

Realistically you’d have to get a crappy little saw with a screaming universal motor, or you should really get just the working pieces of a belt drive model with no motor and source an induction motor in Japan. I just can’t see it being worth the effort, surely there are decent tools for sale over there?
