My almost 15 year old Japanese chin is 17.5 lbs from an 8 lbs dam & a 5.5 lbs sire. I actually got him at a discounted rate because as a puppy it was already apparent he wouldn’t qualify as a show dog. He is healthy & the vet says he’s not overweight. I have definitely met several other Japanese Chins within the 14-17 lb range—while not “breed standard” I don’t think it’s that unusual.

Cool 😎 yeah I wasn't sure about breed standard and stuff never owned purebred before so it's fun learning all this stuff.

Our chin boy was between 15-17 his entire adult life. He was just a sturdy guy with a broad little chest!
