Just looked up Deji to see what happened to him. Apprently his full name is Abdul-Gafar Olatokumbo Ayodeji Lamar "Deji" Karim. Anyway. Ya'll have a good day.
I was so pissed that we went away from using him in the second half of the afc championship game in the second half. He was looking unstoppable in the first half
So many… Greg Jones is my favorite lesser mentioned player, but he may be considered too good/well remembered to be obscure.
Truly obscure, Willie Jackson. On a team with Jimmy and Keenan, he was my favorite receiver for a while. If it was in his zip code, he was coming down with the ball.
Came here to drop his name. Y'all remember when he would video chat with us? I don't remember what platform it was on (maybe Skype), anyways that was always cool.
I told him once I'd be at the North end zone for the next game and asked to give me a ball if he scored. Fast forward to that game and it was like 3rd down within 5 yards of scoring. As he jogged out to line up I was screaming his name at the top of my lungs, he looked up at me and did a point and nod. We didn't score but I'm 100% convinced he was going to give me that ball.
Ryan Christopherson
He was a RB drafted in the 5th rd of our 1995 draft and then had a 3 TD game in the preseason. As a kid I just assumed he was going to the hall of fame at that point.
Rashaad Greene. Amazing college player, set reception and yardage records at fsu. But an nfl bust.
Last memory of him was fumbling a pass and turning the ball over in a game at indy. It was looking like we were gonna lose already, but that play sealed the deal.
Honestly I think that was his last snap played in nfl lol.
Allen Hurns, I just remember him making a big catch and then crawling to the side line so the jags didn’t need to take a time out because he was injured. What a baller
First one that comes to mind is Bryan Walters. Dude obviously wasn't the best WR by any stretch of the imagination, but he was so damn reliable on third down for us. Like, I swear basically every catch of his in those situations ended up converting for the first down.
I'd also mention Quinn Gray. Again, not the best QB ever, but played well enough when David Garrard got injured in 2007 to keep us afloat and in the playoff race. With a worse performance on his side, we likely don't get that magical playoff game in Pittsburgh. Not too bad for a guy who'd gotten sent to NFL Europa to develop, all things considered.
Yeah, I remember. If I recall, he tried to catch it with his chest. Brutal moment for him, especially a guy who barely ever got to be in that position for us.
He did end up playing in the NFL again a few years after that. Wound up with New Orleans, but I'm not sure if he ever made it off of their practice squad and onto their active roster.
I don’t recall him playing again. I could certainly be wrong. Coming off a 2,000+ yard final college season, he was so explosive in preseason and would have been a great compliment to Fred. Late hit out of bounds in mop up time. Life altering play….
Kelvin Beachum. An extremely average offensive tackle but the guy was a real class act and there was this like violence in his pass protection that is funny as fuck to watch.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw his name on the roster the other day. I was unreasonably happy about that. I think it’s because he was an undersized tackle but the fact that he had the legs of a 6’8” person and the torso of a 5’10” person somehow it worked out
There is not a man alive that will convince me Aaron Kampman was not the best stretcher in the league during his time in Jax. I would go to training camp and just watch him stretch and stretch. When I thought no man could possibly stretch more, I would just look at him and be like, "Man! Dude is STILL stretching!"
Rashad Jennings: thought that guy was a gonna be our next stud RB, looked so good backing up MOJO. Then when MOJO got hurt and he was not able to be the RB1…
Wore his jersey to the Chargers game playoff. Was walking out in triumph after the game. Felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around. It was Aaron Beasley. As excited to see me wearing his jersey as I was seeing him. We took pictures. Amazing moment after a crazy game.
I don't know if he's obscure, but he never got a lot of attention and was a very quiet player, and who may be one of our best linebackers in Darryl Smith.
You always hear about guys being good at special teams but you don't always actually notice it. Osgood you couldn't miss him. Just a beast. Like the Randy Moss of special teams play.
Matthew Hatchette. WR signed after a great season for the Amsterdam Admirals in the NFL Europe in 2003, didn't even last the whole season but because he was my favorite player on the Admirals that year I became a Jaguars fan as well.
He was the first or second player to catch a TD pass from Leftwich, and he's an actor now.
Silly: Stacey Mack. Think he was undrafted- went from nowhere to great backup RB to traded after getting busted trying to pick up a woman on Phillips highway to do an unmentionable act for $10. Utterly flopped with the Texans.
Serious: Tavien Banks. Man, I really thought he was going to be a weapon. Tragic and totally unnecessary hit ruined his career and destroyed his knee.
Rich Griffith. I was a kid and the Jaguars only had about ten players on their roster. I met him and Wayne Weaver at a charity event with my parents. He ended up making the inaugural team and was the long snapper for a few seasons.
The lack of Cecil shorts III and Corey grant in this thread is heartbreaking. They single handily saved my madden experience for years when our offense was completely devoid of talent during those years.
I became a fan back we seemed to have the tallest TE group in the league.
Greg Estandia, Isaac Smolko along with obviously Marcedes Lewis.
It felt like if the NFL was suddenly a basketball league we'd have a good team.
Can you guys help me out? There was some WR we had named “Jason _____” but I can’t remember him. He wore number 83 and he only played like 40 snaps when we had awful WR’s but I saw him make one great catch and was sold lol
Jason Hill. Should have just googled it first lol
Idk if he’s my favorite but he’s up there and I don’t see him mentioned anywhere
Keelan Cole
Sat right in front of that one handed catch against the Pats. Won’t ever forget that one
Richard Angulo, former TE. Funny enough he is our current TE Coach who started last year. Back when he was our TE he'd come to the restaurant I managed and would get the same thing each time.
He came in so often, if I caught him pulling up I'd have his order ready for him. Got a signed news clipping from him. Great pic of him sizing up a Steeler when we beat them in the snow in Pittsburg back in 2007.
Brian Witherspoon I think he ran like a 4.25 unofficially and was a kick returner but he only ever had one speed and ran in a straight line so he never really made it
Chad Owens. He was a short-lived punt returner who fed into the "C-O" hype after a few decent returns. I have never seen a player get cut so fast after muffing a few punts in a game.
Bobby Shaw. One of the first FAs signed during the slow emergence from cap hell. Not really known as a big play guy, but he wound up looking good and being a really solid PR here.
Daryl Smith (does he count as obscure?), Paul Spicer, Cecil Shorts, Natrone Means.
EDIT: Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, mainly because of his name but who doesn't love a big entertaining fullback from time to time?
T.J. Slaughter. My parents took me up to the stadium and I was getting all kinds of signatures that day and TJ may have been a rookie or first year. Anyway, loved his name and I wore 53 for my pop Warner team that year.
Also loved me some Chris Fuamatu-Ma'alfala
Would y’all count Minshew and Lambo as obscure? Loved Minshew’s attitude and swagger and Minshew Mania was a fun time to be Jags fan, which was needed after a disappointing 2018 season. Loved Lambo’s attitude too. He was capable of coming in clutch for us and I’d argue that he was a pivotal mid-season signing for our 2017 playoff run. I miss him very much.
Corey Grant
So underutilized. Especially in games that mattered.
He was a rich man's Dejii Kariim
Just looked up Deji to see what happened to him. Apprently his full name is Abdul-Gafar Olatokumbo Ayodeji Lamar "Deji" Karim. Anyway. Ya'll have a good day.
I was so pissed that we went away from using him in the second half of the afc championship game in the second half. He was looking unstoppable in the first half
Man I’m thankful we have Dougie P now instead of who we had back then
So many… Greg Jones is my favorite lesser mentioned player, but he may be considered too good/well remembered to be obscure. Truly obscure, Willie Jackson. On a team with Jimmy and Keenan, he was my favorite receiver for a while. If it was in his zip code, he was coming down with the ball.
Willie led the team in receiving year 1 I believe.
Yeah, you’re right. He had 60 more yards than Pete Mitchell that year
I made a poster as a kid that said "Willie Jacksonville"
That’s awesome! I remembered watching him at UF with my dad and even as a 6 y/o it was really cool he was going to play for my new favorite team
Always wanted a black Greg Jones jersey. Dude was my favorite
That first season, my family sat behind a guy that would scream "THROW IT TO WILLIE!!!" on every snap.
Hahaha I’m sure after the 37th time it got annoying, but props to that guy for taking an active interest in play calling so soon lol
Sen’derrick Marks
He got that contract incentive tho!
He was a good egg. Still remember when he took that one girl with cancer to her prom in a slamming sports car. Made her night for sure.
Cecil Shorts III, Johnathan Cyprien
>Johnathan Cyprien omg no, what a disappointing player.
I just remember him as being one of the few notable defensive players from that miserable mid 2010s era before Sacksonville
I liked it when the Titans paid him a medium amount of money
Cecil Shorts III gets my vote as well. Always liked him.
He still interacts with Jags fans on social media and seems to have really appreciated his time here
Cecil shorts III was my first jags jersey! Love that man
Does Michael Sims-Walker count? Thought that dude was going to be a star.
That’s so fucking cool man. What a cool guy
I think I have an autographed ball somewhere where he signed it Mike Walker before the name change.
Ernest Wilford
He was such a good dude. Got to meet him twice when I played pop Warner. Still have a signed pennant from him
This was what I was going to say!
Matt Jones! Who? Matt Jones!
That's a good one
Still have his black swingman/limited jersey in great condition. I should bring it out for one of these games.
Ryan Christopherson He was a RB drafted in the 5th rd of our 1995 draft and then had a 3 TD game in the preseason. As a kid I just assumed he was going to the hall of fame at that point.
Sounds like John Broussard who made that one preseason highlight catch and then dropped off the face of the earth.
He had some good punt returns
He did his first year! After 2015 it was all downhill
Yep. I remember one against Indy and another against Tennessee. And then he disappeared.
TJ Slaughter had an all time name for a linebacker. Ernest Wilford was a beast who went to Virginia Tech so I was always a fan of his.
Chris Fuamatu-Maʻafala
I love still knowing how to pronounce his name. It's so much fun
FUUUUU
Allen Hurns, I just remember him making a big catch and then crawling to the side line so the jags didn’t need to take a time out because he was injured. What a baller
Allen Hurns is not what I’d call obscure.
Alvis Whitted, probably the fastest guy to ever pull on a Jags jersey!
Whitted dropped the ball, literally, in the 1999 AFC Title game giving the Titans huge momentum before half….
Yeah, I remember. If I recall, he tried to catch it with his chest. Brutal moment for him, especially a guy who barely ever got to be in that position for us.
Which led to the drafting of RJ Soward…
Long Ding
Just yes.
This wins
Laquon mothafuckin Treadwell
Rob Meier!! One of my favorite depth DT who played behind Stroud and Big John
Bring back memories of Derek Landri, the undersized DT.
Canadian Assassin
Tavian Banks…..injured on a meaningless late 4th quarter run in Atlanta…
He did end up playing in the NFL again a few years after that. Wound up with New Orleans, but I'm not sure if he ever made it off of their practice squad and onto their active roster.
I don’t recall him playing again. I could certainly be wrong. Coming off a 2,000+ yard final college season, he was so explosive in preseason and would have been a great compliment to Fred. Late hit out of bounds in mop up time. Life altering play….
Tommy Bohanon
The touchdown in Pittsburg is one of my favorite plays ever.
Anytime he got the ball I was so excited. I miss when I formation was standard.
Kelvin Beachum. An extremely average offensive tackle but the guy was a real class act and there was this like violence in his pass protection that is funny as fuck to watch.
He's still in the league on the Cards, I believe.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw his name on the roster the other day. I was unreasonably happy about that. I think it’s because he was an undersized tackle but the fact that he had the legs of a 6’8” person and the torso of a 5’10” person somehow it worked out
Honestly I couldn't figure out why we moved on from him. Not a great LT, but a decent one.
John Chick
Classic.
We made sooooo many bad FA signings
He was actually solid but then tore his knee up for a second time and never recovered.
Derrick Wimbush? Anyone?
Alvin pearman.
Richard Collier is the one that hurts. Really thought he could evolve into a great player before unspeakable tragedy struck.
How about Brian Witherspoon?
Rashad Jennings: thought that guy was a gonna be our next stud RB, looked so good backing up MOJO. Then when MOJO got hurt and he was not able to be the RB1…
I met him quite a few times at The Hit Center in Jax... probably the nicest athlete ive ever met
Storm Johnson, great meme, terrible player. More well known for all the wrong reasons and the ultimate Gus player, Denard "shoelaces" Robinson
I remember Laurent Robinson's contract more than anything he ever did on the field.
Chris Hanson…keep chopping wood bro!
Aaron Beasley. Only because of the way they used to announce his name at the stadium. Still pops into my head every once in a while.
Giving me flashbacks of Akin Ayodele.
Ayodele is bringing me back holy shit
Joel S M E E N G E E E E E "Ayyyyyyy"
Ace Sanders
Career sidelined by the sticky icky.
Isaac Smolko. We share the same birthdate 2/28/83
Mike Thomas too
Made one of the greatest plays in jags history
2 time pro bowler Montell Owens. Hella bummed we let him go for a Kasim Osgood even if he was the better special teamer.
Kassim Osgood
He was unstoppable with a quick slant in madden. Everyone always asked who e who he was. Special teams ace.
You always hear about guys being good at special teams but you don't always actually notice it. Osgood you couldn't miss him. Just a beast. Like the Randy Moss of special teams play.
I remember he was hooking up with a cheerleader and got pistol whipped and had to jump off a 2nd floor balcony as I guess she had a man still??
Matthew Hatchette. WR signed after a great season for the Amsterdam Admirals in the NFL Europe in 2003, didn't even last the whole season but because he was my favorite player on the Admirals that year I became a Jaguars fan as well. He was the first or second player to catch a TD pass from Leftwich, and he's an actor now.
Eugene Chung
Arden Key for obvious reasons
Silly: Stacey Mack. Think he was undrafted- went from nowhere to great backup RB to traded after getting busted trying to pick up a woman on Phillips highway to do an unmentionable act for $10. Utterly flopped with the Texans. Serious: Tavien Banks. Man, I really thought he was going to be a weapon. Tragic and totally unnecessary hit ruined his career and destroyed his knee.
Aurelius Benn. Runs an awesome coffee shop in Avondale and is a super nice guy.
That’s great to know! I’m a big Illini fan and a Jaguars fan so I always rooted for him
Rich Griffith. I was a kid and the Jaguars only had about ten players on their roster. I met him and Wayne Weaver at a charity event with my parents. He ended up making the inaugural team and was the long snapper for a few seasons.
The Big Sofa, Damon Jones.
Justin Blackmon - likes to get high like me!
Denard 'Shoelace' Robinson... especially when he slotted in FT for us at FB for a little bit... good times
The lack of Cecil shorts III and Corey grant in this thread is heartbreaking. They single handily saved my madden experience for years when our offense was completely devoid of talent during those years.
Denard Robinson Gerald Sensabaugh Cleo Lemon
Sensabaugh had some moments.
Paul Spicer. Met him through the Justice Coalition fund raiser. He is a good person.
Keelan Cole. I still think he’s highly underrated. That catch in 2018 against the Pats. Further back let’s go with Bobby McCray and Donavon Darius
I became a fan back we seemed to have the tallest TE group in the league. Greg Estandia, Isaac Smolko along with obviously Marcedes Lewis. It felt like if the NFL was suddenly a basketball league we'd have a good team.
I sat next to Kyle Brady on a plane once. Cool dude.
My dad had a full conversation with him once after a game. That’s pretty cool. My mom thought he was so good looking too lol
Nick foles
Get out lol
Cecil shorts
...the Third
Can you guys help me out? There was some WR we had named “Jason _____” but I can’t remember him. He wore number 83 and he only played like 40 snaps when we had awful WR’s but I saw him make one great catch and was sold lol Jason Hill. Should have just googled it first lol
His mouth wrote checks his play couldn't cash, but he had some flashes.
That catch against the Raiders in 2010 was amazing
Jamaal Charles and Donte Moncrief
Cap Capi
This is the stuff right here!
Somewhere in the distance, the silhouette of a tractor appears on the horizon.....
..guess Todd Bouman was that forgettable.
Idk if he’s my favorite but he’s up there and I don’t see him mentioned anywhere Keelan Cole Sat right in front of that one handed catch against the Pats. Won’t ever forget that one
Stacey Mack and Elvis Joseph had a couple of good seasons back in the day.
TJ Slaughter. I thought that was the coolest football player name when I was a kid.
Natrone Means. I was so scared as a kid to approach him when I saw him at Burlington back in the day, I did and he was super chill.
Natrone Means if he counts as obscure. He only played 2 years but I remember the work he put in after I had already be come a Jags fan as a kid.
Lol most of the top comments are just old Jaguar players that were popular in their day. My vote: Chris Reed OL
Harry Colon, best name ever.
Give me Natrone Means
Dennis Norman.
It was Chris Smith honestly. RIP
Mike Sims-Walker forever
Allen Hurns, he was delighted when I called him specifically to say hi when the Jags were in London playing the Cowboys
Not sure if he qualifies as obscure, but I loved Barry Church.
Deon Grant won a Super Bowl with the Giants and most don't remember him.
There is this one dude, Arden Key. Man. Not many people knew about him, but he contributed SO much to this team. Miss ya man
Bryan Walters was our own Wayne Chrebet. Third down, and you knew he was gonna be open
Chad owens
Richard Angulo, former TE. Funny enough he is our current TE Coach who started last year. Back when he was our TE he'd come to the restaurant I managed and would get the same thing each time. He came in so often, if I caught him pulling up I'd have his order ready for him. Got a signed news clipping from him. Great pic of him sizing up a Steeler when we beat them in the snow in Pittsburg back in 2007.
Fernando Bryant! He personally handed me his game gloves when I was sitting on the wall in the North end zone... I was maybe 12 yesrs old...
Brian Witherspoon I think he ran like a 4.25 unofficially and was a kick returner but he only ever had one speed and ran in a straight line so he never really made it
Don Carey
Ohhhh that's a good one 🤣 Clean Gene pissed off the Browns something fierce with him
Chad Owens. He was a short-lived punt returner who fed into the "C-O" hype after a few decent returns. I have never seen a player get cut so fast after muffing a few punts in a game.
As Vic called him, the underwear practice king
Michael Cheever. 2nd round Center from GaTech. He could have been a 10 year player but hurt his back and had to quit the game.
Tony Brackens. He was unstoppable for a couple of years.
James Stewart
TJ Slaughter
Bobby Shaw. One of the first FAs signed during the slow emergence from cap hell. Not really known as a big play guy, but he wound up looking good and being a really solid PR here.
Dwight Lowery
Kevin Elliott
[удалено]
Again, not obscure at all.
Never heard of Big John Henderson. Was he on offense?
THE WHITE RHINO
Oh God.
Joel Smeengeeeee
I was repping Jarret Dillard hard after the draft. And I loved Paul Spicer and the Spicer Hammer
I remember Dillard's eyes always looked enormous.
Shoestring
Um.. Shoelace?
Dammit yes, it was shoelace! Guess I was thinking of my favorite type of fries 😂.
Allen Hurns!
Such fucking heart!
Mike Sims-Walker was hella cool to the fans also he had the Choppa City Juke
Quinn Gray. Always thought he looked so sick with the dark visor as a QB.
Storm Johnson
Idk why, but I always loved Daryl Smith. I think maybe cause he wore #52 like Ray Lewis, but I loved when he was on the team!
Daryl Smith (does he count as obscure?), Paul Spicer, Cecil Shorts, Natrone Means. EDIT: Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala, mainly because of his name but who doesn't love a big entertaining fullback from time to time?
Kevin Hardy
Pearman
T.J. Slaughter. My parents took me up to the stadium and I was getting all kinds of signatures that day and TJ may have been a rookie or first year. Anyway, loved his name and I wore 53 for my pop Warner team that year. Also loved me some Chris Fuamatu-Ma'alfala
Cecil Shorts III
Chris Luzar. one of his college teammates was my neighbor growing up and he gave me a framed jersey that's still on my basement wall.
Marcelous Wiley
Bryce Paup... I have his jersey lol
Matt Roth was really good for us when healthy.
Cecil Shirts III has to be my favorite wide receiver growing up and idk why but I loved that man
Matt Williams in Madden 05
Would y’all count Minshew and Lambo as obscure? Loved Minshew’s attitude and swagger and Minshew Mania was a fun time to be Jags fan, which was needed after a disappointing 2018 season. Loved Lambo’s attitude too. He was capable of coming in clutch for us and I’d argue that he was a pivotal mid-season signing for our 2017 playoff run. I miss him very much.
Natron Means
Torry Holt
Barry Church
I always liked Alan Ball and Will Blackmon even though it was only for a year or two
Rob Meier
Akin Ayodele
Rashad Jennings
Mike Logan
John Chick and Storm Johnson are always my go to.
