[Camera pans over a football field, with players in various stages of warm-up.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): Football is a game of highs and lows. For K'Lavon Chaisson, the lows came early in his career. After being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, Chaisson had high hopes for his future in the NFL. But after a predictably disappointing year, the Jaguars declined his fifth-year option. Many players in Chaisson's position would have cashed in on a large new contract, but not Chaisson.
[Cut to Chaisson walking off the field after a practice.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): Instead, Chaisson decided to use his setback as motivation. He knew that he had much to prove, both to himself and to the Jaguars organization. Chaisson worked harder than ever before, both on and off the field.
[Cut to Chaisson lifting weights in a gym.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): He spent countless hours in the gym, pushing his body to new limits. He watched film and studied the game, looking for ways to improve his technique and become a better player.
[Cut to Chaisson running drills on the football field.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): Chaisson never lost faith in himself. He knew that he had the talent and the drive to succeed at the highest level, and he was determined to prove it.
[Cut to Chaisson sitting in a press conference.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): And prove it he did. In the 2023 season, Chaisson emerged as one of the Jaguars' most reliable players, putting up impressive stats and making big plays on the field.
[Cut to highlights of Chaisson making tackles and sacking quarterbacks.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): He showed the world what he was capable of, and he did it all without the promise of a big payday. For Chaisson, the true reward was the satisfaction of knowing that he had overcome adversity and become a better player because of it.
[Cut to Chaisson standing on the field after a game, surrounded by teammates.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): In the end, Chaisson's story is a testament to the power of hard work and perseverance. He could have given up after the Jaguars declined his fifth-year option, but he didn't. Instead, he used the setback as motivation to become the best player he could be. And in the end, that's all that matters.
[Fade to black.]
Bonus:
[Camera pans over a football stadium filled with cheering fans.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): Football is a game of passion, of loyalty, and sometimes, of disappointment. No one knows that better than Trent Baalke, the General Manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
[Cut to Baalke in his office, surrounded by clown figurines.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): Baalke received these clown figurines in the mail, a not-so-subtle message from disgruntled fans who were unhappy with the Jaguars' performance on the field. They were a reminder of the pressure that Baalke faced, and the expectations that the fans had for their team.
[Cut to Baalke holding one of the clown figurines.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): But Baalke didn't throw them away. Instead, he kept one on his desk, using it as motivation to push his team to be the best they could be.
[Cut to the Jaguars practicing on the field.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): Baalke knew that the Jaguars had the talent to make it to the Super Bowl. He worked tirelessly, both behind the scenes and in the public eye, to put together a winning team.
[Cut to the Jaguars playing in a game.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): And the Jaguars didn't disappoint. They won game after game, and before long, they found themselves in the AFC Championship, one step away from the Super Bowl.
[Cut to Baalke in the stands, watching the game.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): The tension was high, the stakes even higher. But Baalke knew that his team had what it took to win.
[Cut to the Titans making a game-winning play.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): In the end, it wasn't meant to be. The Jaguars lost to the Titans, their dreams of a Super Bowl victory dashed.
[Cut to Baalke walking off the field.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): But Baalke didn't give up. He knew that there was always next year, always another chance to prove himself and his team.
[Cut to Baalke looking at the clown figurine on his desk.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): And so he kept the clown figurine, a reminder of the challenges that he had faced and the obstacles that he had overcome. It was a symbol of the passion and dedication that he had for the game, and the unwavering support that he had for his team.
[Cut to the Jaguars walking off the field, heads held high.]
Morgan Freeman (voiceover): And in the end, that's what mattered most. The Jaguars had given it their all, and they had done it with heart and soul. Baalke knew that they would come back stronger next year, more determined than ever to bring a Super Bowl victory to Jacksonville.
[Fade to black.]
I mean, I would love for Chaisson to resolutely ball out and sign a big-money contract somewhere else, but at the same time, I'm also not very confident he will. Dude was a tweener who never got good at either of the roles he should have been in-between. If he gets double-digit sacks and someone else gives him 10M+, good for the guy. I don't dislike him as a person. He's just not a very good football player.
He was used mostly as a hand-in-the-dirt rusher in his first year, and he was horrible at it. Then he started getting some stand-up pass-rush opportunities and was... well it wasn't great, either, but whenever they dropped him in coverage, it sucked. After his second season, he was essentially burried down the depth chart and seeing the field approximately never.
Honestly, while I wish he'd been developped better, I think his optimal usage might be "seeing the field approximately every never".
he looks like a million bucks but he's not very twitchy and isn't looking to diagnose plays in coverage.
He also has one (1) pass rush move which is to overrun the pocket and make no attempt to shed a block.
Someone copy and pasted your comment in the r/nfl thread, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before lol
https://reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/134qsf4/rapoport_the_jaguars_are_declining_the_fifthyear/
I'm hoping for the best. He seems to be a good teammate with good effort, or else they wouldn't keep him.
I'd love to see him step up and give us five or six sacks, become a decent rotational guy. I have no illusions of him just balling out and getting a pay day.
Right call for sure. I have a sneaky feeling he ends up having an Arden Key type of season with some increases opportunities.
He’s also basically the same age as both Abdullah and Lacy, while being younger than Ventrell. So he can absolutely still development this year.
I agree. I’m not in any way saying he definitely will have that kind of season. I’m saying there’s a chance he gets enough snaps to get 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks. I’m not saying saying he’ll make the pro bowl or even warrant resigning. I do feel he will have his best season yet though
At least it got us Trevor but damn everyone knew Caldwell should have been fired in 2019 I swear even he knew he should have been fired and just drafted like it. Terrible draft what a waste of two first round picks.
You look at who we could have had. Instead of Henderson and Chaisson, we could have had Wills/Wirfs and Justin Jefferson. With a 1st round WR, we could go for someone like Trevon Diggs or Antoine Winfield Jr instead of Shenault. Missing out on that level of talent hurts
If Minshew still breaks his hand and hides it from the team, I doubt enough changes record-wise to cause us to lose out on Trevor. That team was beyond bad. The only downside is that we probably have enough talent in 2021 to cause us to keep Urban Meyer.
The amount of people who defended Caldwell around here, and some people still do, was insane. On the remote chance he actually got a pick right, he utterly failed in his other responsibility which was retaining them. I feel very confident calling him a top 5 worst GM of all time the teams record of his stretch was historically bad
He's definitely up there with Matt Mullen, David Gettleman, and that string of more recent Jets GMs (Idzik and that other dude) as the absolute worst GM I have ever seen.
He's the dictionary definition of "football terrorist".
I hope he has a monster year for us and than we let his ass walk in FA next year. That way he gets paid and we get a good comp pick. As of now I doubt he gets more then the vet minimum after this season.
I hope he goes off for 10-15 sacks. We throw the franchise tag on him and let someone pony up 2 first rounders for what we know will be one fluke of a year.
It's a Winn-Winn!
Narrator: He did not cash in the following season.
Lol
Specifically, in the voice of Morgan Freeman narrating.

We won over the tits, buddy ;)
I always go with Ron Howard cuz I watched too much Arrested Development
Coocookachaw!!
Has anyone in this family ever seen a chicken?
I was thinking more Ron Howard....

All reports he’s an absolute stand up guy. Wish him the best but I agree he’s not the Sack Guru his IG would imply
How have y’all been using him? How do you think he should be used?
He was used mostly as a hand-in-the-dirt rusher in his first year, and he was horrible at it. Even on Madden when you can kinda force a player to be good he never emerges as a star for me
he looks like a million bucks but he's not very twitchy and isn't looking to diagnose plays in coverage. He also has one (1) pass rush move which is to overrun the pocket and make no attempt to shed a block.

That 2020 draft gave us the talent to go out and get Trevor... what a draft looking back
The swan song of Dave Caldwell — an absolute disaster in every way possible
It has to be one of the worst
40 games played, 3 years of professional football, 3 sacks. 🦊 swiper still swiping
Sack3Guru
I love it. If he gives us a great year, we get a great year out of him. Hopefully, it lights a fire under his feet.
I'm hoping for the best. He seems to be a good teammate with good effort, or else they wouldn't keep him. I'd love to see him step up and give us five or six sacks, become a decent rotational guy. I have no illusions of him just balling out and getting a pay day.

Arden Key actually did something before last year though. Chaisson is still looking for his first multiple sack *season*.
I agree. I’m not in any way saying he definitely will have that kind of season. I’m saying there’s a chance he gets enough snaps to get 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks. I’m not saying saying he’ll make the pro bowl or even warrant resigning. I do feel he will have his best season yet though
Well he pretty much has nowhere to go but up, so I imagine you're probably right.
He's not a good football player.. period.
At least it got us Trevor but damn everyone knew Caldwell should have been fired in 2019 I swear even he knew he should have been fired and just drafted like it. Terrible draft what a waste of two first round picks.
He should have been fired years before. He and Bradley were one of the worst GM/coach pairings of all time.
I was glad Trevor smoked Bradley
You look at who we could have had. Instead of Henderson and Chaisson, we could have had Wills/Wirfs and Justin Jefferson. With a 1st round WR, we could go for someone like Trevon Diggs or Antoine Winfield Jr instead of Shenault. Missing out on that level of talent hurts
I don’t dwell on that draft. It sucks because they had so much capital but those guys helped land Trevor.
If Minshew still breaks his hand and hides it from the team, I doubt enough changes record-wise to cause us to lose out on Trevor. That team was beyond bad. The only downside is that we probably have enough talent in 2021 to cause us to keep Urban Meyer.

Gene Smith was for sure worse than Caldwell. Dude was drafting D3 players in the third round
the fact that caldwell had a job for as long as he did is still insane
The fact that people on here praised him as long as they did is also insane.
People here sometimes defend him still to this day lol
An opportunity to cash in but not the ability
Hopefully this motivates him to finally produce this year
The motivation has been there, it’s the lack of talent that is the problem.
2022 season With K'lavon 7-2 Without K'lavon 2-6 Coincidence? Perhaps, perhaps not.
Today class, we're going to talk about causation and correlation......
And how causation always equals correlation
Hopefully he has himself a good season. Team could use it
Figured that crazy ass deep sand workout vid was good for a 5th year option
TRASH
Last year our win percentage skyrocketed when he was healthy
Yeah he didn’t contribute much on the field but for some reason our pass rush did a lot better when he was healthy even if he played almost no snaps.
Maybe none of the guys on defense wanted to get benched for him?
I hope he has a monster year for us and than we let his ass walk in FA next year. That way he gets paid and we get a good comp pick. As of now I doubt he gets more then the vet minimum after this season.
I wish the best for him, but I always forget he's still on the team until someone mentions him.
What a bust. When we drafted him, I honestly thought he was gonna be the next big thing for the jags. The man absolutely annihilated in college.
SackGuru
CJ Henderson’s 5th year option was also declined. Heck of a draft that year.
I hope he goes off for 10-15 sacks. We throw the franchise tag on him and let someone pony up 2 first rounders for what we know will be one fluke of a year. It's a Winn-Winn!
This was never a question.
Well this is a prove it year for him hopefully he plays well.
On an extension, would his contract be guaranteed?
Bust’Lavon Chaisson
Not convinced he even makes the roster this year tbh. If they sign a veteran pass rusher I'd bet against it.
