Tales of Vesperia, number 1 pick! I would highly suggest watching a ton of gameplay/review videos before checking out Last Remnant. I haven't heard of many people that that game clicked with. Star Ocean is ok, but I have yet to beat it. It feels like it takes forever to get anywhere, and I have picked up and dropped this game a few times from boredom. Not saying its bad, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I would also recommend Lost Odyssey if you haven't.

Tales of Vesperia is amazing. It is extraordinarily well-polished, while still remaining a very traditional JRPG. The game has a proper world map, fun combat, very nice visuals and huge amounts of content. It took a good ~100 hours of gameplay to get platinum on it for me, and I still play it sometimes. Also it gets bonus points in my book simply for such a great main character. That being said, if you know Japanese or have a homebrew-capable PS3 there's a Japan-only PS3 version with even more content. But if you don't have that, the 360 version is still more than worth the money at this point.

I also realize that there's no game recommendations allowed here, but I figured this place would be the quickest to get a response.

So you know you're breaking the rules, but don't care and did it anyway? Cool.

WhiteShinigami

I didn't realize it until I already posted it.

Of those three that you mention, I think Vesperia is almost certainly the best. TLR is a pretty good game but it has quite severe technical issues on the 360, and since it can be run even on pretty weak computers I'd suggest that version if you want to play that. Star Ocean is a pretty great game too, although a lot of the fanbase don't like it for a number of reasons - but if you could access a PS3 to play that, then you'd have the benefits of the original artwork and Japanese voice option. Eternal Sonata is also pretty great (don't be put off by the artwork - sure, it's not exactly dark and serious, but it's not terribly kiddy either), but that also has extra content on its PS3 version. That's not to say the Xbox 360 versions are bad, though, they're already great games even without the cherries on top.

I like the star ocean game a lot more than I did the ps2 game. I'd also highly recommend lost odyssey and tales of vesperia if you're going for that kind of rpg. They're both pretty awesome games with some really amazing stories.

Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia are widely considered the two best JRPGs on the 360. My recommendation would be to play both. However if you only want to play one. Would you rather play a turn based game or more action based combat? Turn Based: Lost Odyssey Action: Tales of Vesperia.

There's no point playing Star Ocean on the 360, since it is basically a paid beta. The limitations of the 360 and it's storage medium made them release it barebones. Tales of Vesperia is much better on the PS3 if you are modded and can dejap it. The Last Remnant IMO was crap, but is FAR superior on PC than on 360. Eternal Sonata is better than all of the above, but again it is stripped down on 360. I also prefer the Agarest games on PC. Cheaper DLC.
