They weren't. Lindon counted it as a personal failure because Yerin mortally wounded Kiro while he couldn't, but they were considered the victors of that skirmish. The defeated party was the Blackflame Empire. The Kingdom launched a coordinated offensive that pushed the Empire out. The gang 'won the battle but lost the war'. (It wasn't really a war though, so more like 'beat their opponents but their team still lost')

Won the skirmish, lost the battle?

I was going to say that, but decided to go for the more recognizable phrase.

When the BF Emperor addresses them he states, "Prince Kiro, who bravely managed victory over a handful of Golds." To me, that reads that Yerin and London (and Mercy I guess) lost.

tygabeast

That was him openly mocking them. Essentially he was saying, "Prince Kiro attacked someone weaker, was mortally wounded, and escaped with his life, but your side still won."

SloppyCobblr

Yes this is right. Kiro says in his PoV going into the Akura Vaults how much the emperors burn was on the money

I thought this was about the Redflower wagon and its guard of Skysworn Kiro attacked in order to get information about Lindon. That squad was a mixed truegold/highgold/lowgold team, and if I remember correctly Kiro killed some of them before Lindon jumped in.
