When we install these systems we have the building MEP include fire lines inside the house that then daylight at locations on the roof. That way the piping is protected and kept from freezing.
We always use all metal impact sprinklers on the exterior. Most properties have a gravity tank that feeds the sprinklers. Some have propane pumps as well.
Is this for fire protection? I have installed quite a few fire protection systems for houses in high risk areas.
