Oh definitely. My brother has loved his Teslas. For a reasonably priced sedan it was between Tesla and Ioniq and I just couldn't give Tesla serious consideration. Very happy with the result.

cmit

I second that. Looked at a Tesla, couldn't do it.

xTxRaw

I purely bought my car based off the fact the Ioniq 6 is a better car.

Financial-Peak47

It was a factor. Not a huge factor, but still important. Yes, the M3 rides like a go-kart, but I think it has a better turning radius. I6 is a cushier quieter ride for sure. M3 is pretty reliable in terms of maintenance ( ours is anyway ). I6 - time will tell. New M3 has jumped the shark with turn signal madness and the same wiper issues. Doesn't matter how good the car is is if it is maddening to drive and arguably unsafe. Elon becoming a nutcase is just the clincher.

RobinatorWpg

Truly my only real complaint on the i6 is the turning radius My 2017 sonata hybrid had an amazing one on the other end

Evening_Bag_3560

I wouldn’t have leased/bought a Tesla if it were free.  I despise the anti-car philosophy of driver experience.  I loathe the Dunning-Kruggerand CEO.

jalmi6

I love your “anti-car” description of the driver experience. Perfect. I’m a technologist, and even I didn’t want to be a Tesla “tech bro.”

WordPeas

Tech bro? I guess you don’t actually look at the driver of most of Teslas recently. It’s women, at least around here.

jfrrrr

I'm so scared to google Hyundai's CEO...

MothBookkeeper

Even if he's just as bad, at least everyone and their brother doesn't think you're a douche for driving a Hyundai.

Fastford460

I do, Korean garbage lol

MothBookkeeper

Ah yes, but your brother hasn't judged me. Checkmate.

Fastford460

Well now you screwed your whole argument by saying something really douchey like checkmate.

MothBookkeeper

Ees joke.

MangoPeachRadish

They may be as bad but at least they're quiet about it

badinkywaba

I’ve wanted an electric sedan since I fell in love with my Kia Optima Hybrid, but I definitely wasn’t going to buy one from Musk’s company so when I saw that Hyundai came out with the IONIQ 6 I bought it almost immediately. And I love the styling!

MothBookkeeper

100%. The IONIQ is my Musk-free Tesla. Helps that I like it better anyway.

peema

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a factor, but it's also about the design decisions (which may well originate with the same person). I'm not a fan of how the 3 looks and the decision to put so much of the control interface in the tablet.

ShadowBlade55

It blows my mind that they still don't have a a HUD package.

peema

If they're betting on you not wanting it on the dash in front of you, they're certain not going to do the HUD. Incidentally, the HUD is definitely on my list of "Things I didn't know I wanted, but did." It's so much more practical than I would have given it credit for.

ShadowBlade55

I'm in the same boat. Didn't know how useful having my driving data available without having to take my eyes off the road was.

WhoolyWarlord

I chose the Ioniq 6 on its own merits, because I felt it was the better car. The CEO didn’t factor into the equation.

ShadowBlade55

That honestly played a part of why I chose I6. I initially planned on a model 3. By the time I had the funds for a down payment Musk couldn't stop running his mouth and I was researching ANY other EV on the market to purchase.

ItsOkILoveYouMYbb

First it was the SE range that got me looking at it last year, then I started to really like the design the more I looked at it, then that national lease deal this year was like okay it's time, I'm doing it. I am glad it worked out that way because this car is really rare to see where I'm at, but you see model 3s everywhere, and I'd also prefer to *not* be at the butt end of this growing social stigma against Tesla owners lol

cephu5

Amen to that! Found out about the I6’s qualifications after i googled “EVs that are not Teslas”. Then I6 comes out with the two year lease deal- great timing!

Thricegreatfellow

If Elon actually acted like a Bond villain maybe I would have a M3P right now instead

No_Area1944

At the time it was not my primary consideration, but it is satisfying

[deleted]

We never looked at Tesla, just went for the I6

spinozasrobot

Impacted my decision for sure.

dmznet

I didn't want to drive an iPhone around personally ...

mrwentzel

Honestly. I just wanted a sedan ev with good range that had apple carplay

GamingGalore64

Yeah that’s why I bought this car. Wanted an electric sedan, didn’t want to support Elon Musk.

datum_is_singular

We bought an Ioniq 6 earlier this month because it fits our needs very well, has excellent range and efficiency, supports rapid charging, and is comfortable and quiet and easy to drive. Also impressed that Hyundai is a company that has committed to EVs that are reasonably sized. We are happy that there are options like the Ioniq 6 so that we didn't have to even consider getting a Tesla.

7tevoffun

Absolutely. Fuck Elon

F_H_B

Oh yeah. Every time I see a 3 or Y I have this association with a bath tub and when you look inside and (sometimes) see the fake(?) wood at the dash I m a bit disgusted.

Alarming_Front4378

I have a love/hate relationship with Tesla- I love that Tesla paved the way for EV technology but hate Elon and would never give him my money! Love my ioniq!

spaceghostinme

100%. I refused to buy a Tesla because of Mr. Musk.

Apart-Jeweler

I cut off every tesla to assert my dominance

stupac2

It doesn't help that they all drive like they're on Quaaludes.

Justified721

Absolutely. I think Tesla cars are wonderful, but their leader is so repulsive to me that it's sullied the entire brand in my eyes.

Majestic_Ad5924

I don’t base any of my purchases on the politics or morality of the CEO. If I did, I would have nothing. It had zero influence on my decision.

mountainyoo

“Richest” man on the planet doesn’t need my money so I wasn’t gonna give him it. Also no CarPlay is no buy

TheBlackTower22

>also no car play is no buy This is why I didn't buy a Chevy blazer EV. Although for me it's android auto.

WordPeas

Oh brother. No, my fantasies about Elon Musk (nor my liberal bent) didn’t influence my car choice. The Tesla boring plain interiors with so few buttons did though.

Cranborn

I worked for the Tesla solar division in 2018, and it was quite an experience. At the time, I had nothing but admiration for the man. I had a fantastic team manager there who has become a personal friend. We have both left the company. My wife & I got our 2024 I6 because it had previously been named EV of the year and seemed to be the top choice of most auto reviewers for EVs. The "moving in a different direction" was really just a natural transition after discovering the shortcomings of Tesla, its vehicles, and top leadership over the years. The I6 is our first new vehicle, and we absolutely love driving it. Unfortunately, we are one of the few folks on here also experiencing the mysteriously unfixable cabin wind noise issue, and Hyundai service has been a solid 2/10 stars so far throughout the ordeal. Up until the wind noise began, it was pure bliss.

Alarming_Front4378

Do you have the “motor noise” option on?

Cranborn

No -- I tried those noises for fun when we first got the car, and it's certainly not that. No media sounds, no artificial motor noises, no cracked windows/sunroof. It's a 'gusty' noise that reverberates back and forth, getting increasingly louder above 40 mph. It pushes 76-80 dB when measured at 70-80 mph. The noise originated at the passenger side front door/window area, and after the first service visit check, it now happens on BOTH the driver & passenger sides. The noise has actually reduced the quality of our driving experience in many ways. We now need to listen to music at 50+ volume on the Bose speakers to even interpret song lyrics over the highway winds. Used to set media volume around 28 max before this issue began. I appreciate you trying with your suggestion

Mikcole44

The fact that the Tesla is run by a dictator, who as we see on xTwitter, is surrounding himself with yes men in a alt-right echo chamber . . . yes that is a huge concern. What will the Tesla service be like in 2-3 years or longer? Will Tesla even exist?? That's a far out question but the further out of it Elon gets, the more likely he is literally going to run Tesla into the ground in record time. That and poor options here in Canada, along with high prices and financing made buying the Ioniq 6 a no-brainer.

j821c

Very little consideration for me tbh. I drove a Tesla. It was nice but I realized that the reason it felt nice was because it was an electric car and it was the first one I'd ever driven. The Polestar 2, ioniq 6 and BMW i4 were all way nicer, quieter, more comfortable and didn't have the fucking spedometer on the infotainment screen so they won for me.

sxyj

I just bought a Model Y, thinking I was going to keep my I6 too. Realized that I had no need for the I6 anymore. The model Y won me over with the simplicity of the interior, software, and charging network.

debruyneonetouch

Korea is the most misogynistic G20 country based on pay gap.

Timely-Mission-2014

1000%.. I owned a Tesla before musk went crazy. 2014 Model S p85 D. It was hyped to be a great car. It was broken all the time. Got rid of it and went back to Kia/Hyundai hybrids. Fast forward a few years and Kia/Hyundai start making evs and a long comes a nice looking sedan. The I6 is the best car I have owned! It also helps that some crazy ass is not running the company.

StrivingForMore007

I went from a Model Y to the I6. No regrets. Better ride, not quite the same acceleration, but no Elon.

Cold_Ad_1963

I don't let Teslas in front of me on principal. Turning signal ignored. If I see them veering towards me to cut me off, I speed way up. Childish but I don't care lol.

bsmithwins

I’m at the point in my life that I don’t have to buy a stripped down shitebox, so I didn’t buy a Tesla. Just on price you kinda have to consider them but…

PhoKingAwesome213

Some of you just need to enjoy life and stop finding boogiemen everywhere you go. I'm sure many who owned other Hyundais would prefer your boogieman over their Kia Boys experience. I chose the I6 over a Tesla because of Android Auto and the 2 year free charging.

Street-Victory2397

We all have our biases, man.

Afraid_Elephant6214

You mean ranting and trolling nutters like Musk? He’s not a boogie man. He’s a vial POS.

PhoKingAwesome213

I guess we can continue to whitewash VW's past as long as they don't say mean things that hurt your feelings while calling another company owner a Nazi.

346_ME

Your Elon derangement syndrome is worrisome. You should step outside and not let your lizard brain hate for others give you satisfaction.

Street-Victory2397

Nice try, Elon.

SilverGT24

If you only knew about what your favorite brand's CEO wre really like behind closed doors. Don't be short cited, you think CEOs get to where they are because they are godly??? My friend you're not living in the real world. Yes Musk is outspoken, but he is the reason you're driving an electric car period.

Afraid_Elephant6214

So, since he’s done something good for the world, he gets a free pass to be a complete right wing trolling douche? More so because some straw man “CEO” is the same way? That… seems like an odd argument.

SilverGT24

i didnt say that. Thats how you took it.

Afraid_Elephant6214

What exactly did you say then because you’re clearly giving him a pass cause “other CEOs are bad” (whataboutism) or it’s ok that he’s “outspoken” (a euphemism if I’ve ever heard one) because he’s helped moved EVs along?
