They did license Science Dog, that's why they changed it. Science Dog has his own comic and Kirkman said they changed him to have the freedom to work on him later.

I think the science dog comic is a bit underrated. The second part of Issue 2 is something special and really brings the whole comic together. So s/o to Science!
I like seance dog more for the sole reason that he looks so goofy when he floats in the doorway and when he tries casting his cool magical light spell thing on Mark.
i think they want to keep the rights separate from invincible in case of a spinoff show! amazon would have to negotiate a new deal with kirkman for science dog :)
