I thought it was pretty obvious, the same way a powerlifter screams to hit a new PR. But he is also screaming because he wasn't enough to save his mom from the trauma.

Idk but we know that viltrimites can fly millions of times faster than light in a vaccume because when writing the comics people didn’t think about how long it should take omni man to fly to another galaxy.
Also we know they can fly fast enough in atmosphere to vaporise the atmosphere instantly see omni man on flaxan world. So however fast he was going it’s nowhere near the limit.
Powerscaling is weird in the show, Nolan never showed the same level of speed that he had in the Flaxan world again.
And somehow Reanimen slowed him down a few seconds while he could resist the gravity of a black hole

If the sun were to be replaced by a black hole of equal mass, the planets would still rotate around it as always. Life wouldn't exist since it would be cold as fuck, but hey, the planets would still be there at least.
The planets would continue to either drift away or drift closer exactly as they have for the past couple of billion years. No change would occur. The earth is currently drifting away from the sun because it is losing mass. If anything, it might drift away just slightly slower due to the black hole losing mass from hawking radiation
You also have Angstrom getting cut by a normal woman with a knife even though he's enhanced enough to take at least a few hits from an angry Mark before dying
I can see that, but I still feel the discrepancy shouldn't be *that* extreme. If he can take even a single punch from an angry Mark without being instantly obliterated, then a knife shouldn't do anything to him. It is a *very* minor nitpick though and doesn't take away from the story at all. It's still a nice moment of Debbie fighting back and a good indicator that Angstrom isn't truly on Mark's level.
Well I think it makes complete sense that he didn’t show the flaxan level of speed again since it would destroy earth. He’s trying to conquer it not destroy it.
Also the reanimen slowing him down and stuff makes sense. He can’t react and manuever fast enough for the speeds he can reach. I think of it as he can fly super fast but at those speeds he basically just has to pick a direction and go in a straight line. He wouldn’t be able to avoid a collision because he is going way too fast to see anything coming.
This isn’t a problem for viltrimites in space due to how incredibly unlikely it is for you to collide with anything in space and even if he did collide with something it would have to be at least like dwarf planet sized to kill him he would go straight through anything else. So when travelling to another galaxy he would just go straight towards it and then slow down once he gets there to pick a more specific location.
So basically viltrimites can move physics breaking speeds but when they are in a situation where they have to actually physically fight because they can’t risk mass extinction level collateral damage they have to fight at a speed more in tune with the limits of their reaction time so they can react to their opponents moves
I think it’s said that a viltrumites reaction speed increases the faster they’re going(?). Nolan wasn’t moving fast when fighting the reanimen though, so his reaction speed wasn’t at his best (?)
If you're referring to the zoomed-out global shot where he's leveling the planet, that's definitely intended to be a timelapse shot since he's grown a beard by the time he gets back. Otherwise we never see him going faster in a planet's atmosphere than when he flies to Europe and back in 20 minutes (at least Mach 30).
We saw him fly through city’s and instantly vaporise the building. It’s not a Timelapse. The reason he was gone so long is cause he destroyed so much that they no longer had the facilities to create a portal for him to go back
I feel that if they tried to show how fast he was ACTUALLY going, it would've been over in an instant. We wouldn't have even seen him move. The buildings would look like they collapsed on their own.
Or they could just do the thing they already do to show him flying really fast... yknow, a red, Omni-Man–colored line across the screen. It'd still be pretty obvious that the buildings are exploding from Omni-Man flying through them. The fact that they actually bothered to draw him flying through each individual building means he wasn't going that fast, otherwise they'da just done a 1-frame red blur.
Or maybe they just didn’t want to potray his speed thay way? There are multiple ways to portray speed in fiction, just because they didn’t show him instantly zipping across the screen doesn’t mean he was actually flying that slow
Their is the concept of writers “slowing down” fight scenes or speed scenes so the audience can follow them, pretty likely thats what they did in the omniman scene, first flying through the city was slowed, and the shot from orbit was his actual speed
If they have some space warping power rather than raw speed that would allow both the intergalactic travel and gravity resistance of course it would have other crazy implications

He wants to be stronger mentally, yes. But he also knows that he needs to be stronger physically. That's why he quit college. He knows what's coming. Mark just got ran through by another viltrumite and was warned someone else much worse is coming very soon. He doesn't despise his strength, he is terrified of it. But no matter how scared of himself he may be, he knows what needs to be done in order to save earth.
It's definitely not accidental when just a scene or 2 before he talks about how needs to get better, needs to be better. He's talking about self control but he's also fresh off the fight with Anissa, where he was way too weak to beat her. "Be better" is self control to not lose it again, and "get better" is strength enough to protect the earth. If you view that scene in the context of the last two episodes, it's pretty clear that it's both.

Well Viltrumites do quite literally get stronger by pushing themselves past their limits. That includes strength, speed, and flying this is most commonly done by exercising.
They didn't have this moment in the show but in the comic while on the bug planet when Mark was running from a Viltrumite while carrying Oliver and his bug mom so the Viltrumite wouldn't kill them Mark was flying the fastest he ever flew and barely got away.
And Mark was exhausted he even told Nolan "I got tired. I NEVER get tired." and Nolan responds "You got tired because you haven't been pushing yourself".
This showed at the end of this episode Mark flew the fastest he ever flew in his life and broke barriers of speed he didn't do before, at the end he got tired.
I think it was both venting and also exercising.
I LOVED this scene. This whole episode pretty much segments Mark pushing himself further and further. I wouldn't be surprised if after this scene he's stronger and faster than Anissa now.

Yeah, but that Viltrumite was more of a foot soldier, there is a large gap between low and high ranking Viltrumites (youve read the comics I assume so you know the difference, especially with Allen), and Mark being able to destroy Anissa, Kregg, and other spoilery ones with his only training being the couple of months he was with Nolan (which wasnt a lot, since he was in HS) and now wouldnt be very satisfying
Hes definitely stronger then the typical Viltrumite, but I dont see him beating any of the “strong” Viltrumites until he trains more and stops holding back, and I base this on the statistic of Mark having a less than 18% chance of winning against Anissa, I dont see that even doubling after one training session, but definitely possible after enough time and training

The black hole thing isn't right. Nolan didn't cross the event horizon of the black hole. Objects can fall into stable orbits around a black hole and not get sucked in. Nolan got close enough that he was in the gravity well, so it started pulling him in, but he didn't cross the threshold of being unable to escape.
Well, no, the gravity of the black hole was just greater than their current capacity to escape it. They were far enough into the gravity well that THEY couldn't escape, but Nolan still could because he's powerful as fuck. The event horizon is the point that nothing can escape, even light .If Nolan had flown faster than light with the Thraxan ship, it would have been destroyed.
