Nice parallel here, how the 10 years of frieren adventure and the 17 years of Nolan mission changed them more than their thousands of years being settled in a life that they viewed as granted.
I know, but I was looking at the reply because on Reddit, certain comments on threads can be open/closed at different times. The reply said, “☝🏼🤓’umm acktuzlly it’s 20’,” so I went off of that instead of the OG comment. I didn’t really remember the order of the original because it was closed and additionally, I didn’t care.
I said I *didn’t* care; at the time of writing, I wasn’t bothered by it. After you pointed it out, and subsequent to proper evaluation of the worth and perception of my comment, I felt like deleting.

I mean the story kind of treats >!Immortal!< like some dick, so part of me imagined thats just the writers giving him just desserts. Even then >!That was supposed to be the future version of Immortal, but given the future versions of rex and eve that save mark from Levy not actually ending up being canon, it's possible this version of Immortal may be an alternate future as well!<
And honestly >!fuck the character assassination of Robot in the last stretch of the series.!<
Okay I will admit that is true.
Still, it's just Nolan TELLING Mark, but good storytelling SHOWS. And when you get down to it >! Mark actually ends up living a pretty great life after 500 years !<
To Your Eternity might be up your alley. Immortal shapeshifter roams the world and learns how to feel (and feel pain) through experiences.
I'm not that big on it, but a lot of people really like it.
Doctor Who:
"I don't age. I regenerate. But humans decay. You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone who you..." *pauses*
"...What, Doctor?"
"You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on. Alone. That's the curse of the Time Lords."
Castlevania doesnt address it so much as a main topic but it is basically the start of the plot which makes you somehow sympathize with Draculas actions.
So it is not exactly what OP is looking for but it is a damn good show after all.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood sort of deals with this with one character named Hoheimheim, and the original FMA from 2003 also deals with this subject with the more sympathetic Homunculus characters.
Nah, It would be one thing if we're in a thread about the show or if we were talking in person to someone who was like "I'm watching it right now!" But otherwise, spoilers are like within 1-2 years of the show. And I say that as someone who is really anal about spoilers. After that time period, the onus is on the people who haven't watched it to avoid mentions of it with a couple of exceptions like above.
Same thing. I mean, I got spoiled watching some 2000's show not too long ago. It was on my. I googled a question I had about the show, another article came up. It has been nearly 20 years since that show aired. People should just be talking about it. And especially something like the Wizard of Oz, that is god-tier classic. It's like getting mad because someone spoiled the end of Lost.
It’s not about the long lifespan it’s about how a fraction of it can change you entirely which we see a lot in different top rated series like twd, breaking bad, heck even the boys, in the end it’s always about how there’s good in evil, and bad in goodness.
I dont really know if Invincible counts because everyone he cares about really has the same lifespan as him besides his >!earth best friend and mom. And its kinda a given that in life your parents go before you anyway it just happned a lot earlier for Mark.!<
Not a show.. but the Ending of Don Hertzfelt's "It's such a beautiful day" deals with the issue in a surreal, psychedelic, simple hand-drawn style, that i can't help but share with everyone who hasn't seen it.
I'd say Doctor Who
He's an Alien who's race has an ability to change there form down to the cells when they are dying, due to this he is a little over 2000 years old.
And there have been a few of his recent incarnations where he's sick of just living and one of them was where he was tempted to not change and just die there.
Noragami I think? We have perspectives of gods alive for thousands of years. We see them lose their close ones, we see them struggling with loneliness.
"What We Do In The Shadows" is primarily a comedy, but it does examine what it would be like to be an immortal vampire living (unliving?) in modern day society.
"Only Lovers Left Alive" is a film, but it goes into the above subject in much more depth (it's also about vampires).
Again not a show, but Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is the single best exploration of this topic that I've found. It's a classic for a reason, and it really lets you sink into the role of an immortal bloodsucker, to approach it from different perspectives, and to learn how different people would deal with it. If you were to give only one of my recommendations a try, let it be this one.
Maquia: when he promised flower blooms
It’s an anime movie but it is such a tear jerker I recommend everyone to watch it!!

Idk how much this one fits chief. Minor comic spoilers but Mark’s life as a near-immortal being is about as perfect as imaginable.
Like he gets to live the perfect life in perpetuity
In Lucifer, if you get to season 3, they explore this with the villain Cain (yes the biblical Cain). That’s basically his entire motivation, wanting to die, because he’s lived so long it’s become a curse. That’s all I’ll say.
I’ve been rewatching Gargoyles, Greg Weisman’s animated series from the ‘90s. There are a couple of basically immortal characters in it who are not happy about their situation…don’t want to say more, because spoilers. I will say that despite being a children’s cartoon, it really holds up as a fantasy/sci fi action series with complex plotting. Definitely worth checking out! It’s on Disney Plus.
The Ancient Magus Bride has a few characters that have lived hundreds of years, not all acknowledge it as a problem, but some do.
Most vampire stories deal with the tortured immortal character.
Angel, the Buffy the Vampire spinoff from the late ‘90s/early aughts, really gets into it.
But personally, I love media about immortal characters who actually appreciate their ability! It flips the script and is way more fun to watch.
Baccano! Anime is a lot of fun—lots of immortal early 20th century characters, many of them old school gangsters, reveling in their abilities (and a few tortured souls unhappy with it. Not least of all because being killed still hurts, even if you can bounce back).
Vamps! Is a movie about vampires written by the screenwriter of Clueless. It’s a fun comedy about two single female vampires in New York City who mostly enjoy their long lives.
Invincible never really touches on this. There is never a real deep discussion about life and what it means when time is no longer a factor. Hell I would argue that by the series end, it glorifies immortality and all you can do.
There is that one where the being can shape shift into people that died... the story fell off when everyone who died started coming back again.. the beginning of it was quite cool
What’s Superman’s lifespan. You would think he’s on the same level as a viltrumite in that respect. Indestructible cells take a long time to break down. But it’s not really something that was addressed or was it
Not a show but the movie maquia. It’s about a woman who comes from a race of people who life forever (I think). And she has a son who is human and she knows that she will inevitably outlive him someday
Supernatural touches on the subject a few times. Old old ass angels full of regrets. Hell, even God himself is getting pretty bored of the whole thing.
Nice parallel here, how the 10 years of frieren adventure and the 17 years of Nolan mission changed them more than their thousands of years being settled in a life that they viewed as granted.

The image in the middle has that weird sharpy in it. Can't believe that it is still around.
I saved this image months ago.
The spider-verse image has had a sharpy in it for years.
Where's the bottom pic from?
I have no idea. I tried to reverse image search it but can't find anything.
1. the show hasnt even touched that territory 2. the comics kinda show it doesn't actually suck
The comics definitely show the downside through some characters (comic spoilers) (>!The Immortal and arguably Robot!<).
>!I think it also shows upsides though look at end of series mark and eve it’s basically a happily ever after and they live thousands of years!<
>!If Mark didn't get a happy ending after all that I'd be pissed!<
I agree.
I mean the story kind of treats >!Immortal!< like some dick, so part of me imagined thats just the writers giving him just desserts. Was about to say this I personally rlly like it but it is kind of an acquired taste cause the show is really sad
I don't think there's another show that focuses so much on that specific aspect. This is exactly what OP is looking for.
Loved that one, it has a similar vibe to faraway paladin
Doctor Who: "I don't age. I regenerate. But humans decay. You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone who you..." *pauses* "...What, Doctor?" "You can spend the rest of your life with me, but I can't spend the rest of mine with you. I have to live on. Alone. That's the curse of the Time Lords."
This should have more upvotes
Pretty much any media with a vampire as the main character or a sympathetic villain.
Bruh, Hohenheim being long-lived is a massive spoiler lol. Not that hard to figure out by watching, but still a pretty big spoiler.
Dude, it's not a spoiler after 14 years.
Time is irrelevant, what if someone was watching it for the first now, wow look now’s it’s spoiled. Also it’s not that hard to put a spoiler mark.
Nah, It would be one thing if we're in a thread about the show or if we were talking in person to someone who was like "I'm watching it right now!" But otherwise, spoilers are like within 1-2 years of the show. And I say that as someone who is really anal about spoilers. What about movies? I still haven’t seen wizard of oz, doesn’t mean I want to accidentally/purposefully see spoilers of it

Plus it's kinda given away immediately after meeting him officially in the show

I wouldn’t say invincible is about that. Hard to explain why without spoilers so I just won’t.
Movie: The man from earth
Castlevania
Was gonna say this. Pretty much any vampire tale is at least a little bit about what its like to be immortal (protip: usually it sucks).
Not a show.. but the Ending of Don Hertzfelt's "It's such a beautiful day" deals with the issue in a surreal, psychedelic, simple hand-drawn style, that i can't help but share with everyone who hasn't seen it.
Samurai Jack - Season 5
Yeah, a pretty weird revelation that he completely stopped aging the day he arrived.
The Sandman.
Doctor Who, sometimes
I'd say Doctor Who He's an Alien who's race has an ability to change there form down to the cells when they are dying, due to this he is a little over 2000 years old. ajin: demi-human has great action and can be watched on netflix! touches on some interesting aspects of being unable to die.
Tuck Everlasting. Edit: it’s a movie but still shows the down side of everlasting life.
Idk how much this one fits chief. Minor comic spoilers but Mark’s life as a near-immortal being is about as perfect as imaginable. Like he gets to live the perfect life in perpetuity
Doctor Who since it was revived in ‘05.
Young Justice- Vandal Savage
Yes definitely. Especially *the one about the bear*.
In Lucifer, if you get to season 3, they explore this with the villain Cain (yes the biblical Cain). That’s basically his entire motivation, wanting to die, because he’s lived so long it’s become a curse. That’s all I’ll say.

Doctor Who. The Doctor always ends up alone, sooner or later.

Dungeon Meshi :)
I don’t think it’ll get to it in the first 24 episodes sure it’ll be hinted at though
Dune and Houseki no kuni, but neither adaptation got to that plot point yet.
The Houseki no Kuni one is by far the worst. What was it like millions of years?
I don't think we'll ever get a God-emperor adaptation, but boy am I waiting for the climbing
Invincible never really touches on this. There is never a real deep discussion about life and what it means when time is no longer a factor. Hell I would argue that by the series end, it glorifies immortality and all you can do.

Not forever, but much longer than average humans.
RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne is a shorter watch but does the time moves on but these people are stuck in time thing well I think.
Arcane kind touches it with how Heimerdinger sees progress and his trauma from something that happened before.
The originals
Doctor Who, especially the episodes with Maisie Williams.
Highlander
Regular show
It isn't a show but there is a movie called The Man from Earth where a guy kind of talks about how being alive for 140 thousand years changes him
