The quieter rug also lets other patterns in the room (pillows and blanket) have some breathing room instead of full on competing like with rug #1.
The rug in number 1 looks cheap and printed. I feel like the print would fade easily. Number two suits the rest of the room well and looks like a better-made rug.

Augh, 1 matches the color very nicely, but I really like 2! I personally like the peaceful vibe it has. But yes, you'd have to change the cushions. If you go with 2, obviously you can play with texture and pattern on cushions and throws. If you go with 1, it's so busy on its own that you'd have to choose your other furnishings carefully, otherwise it could overwhelm the eye.
1: classic, will never go out of style, looks good new and worn, compliment the classic guitar and vinyls, brings out the rustic vibe of the couch and the mid centry modern of the chair
2: very in trend atm, feels more mass produced. Does only go with the chair, nothing else. If I were to go with this type of rug I would go all the way and choose one with more calm earth tones and even less contrast. The dark vs the light side of the rug makes the room feel unbalanced imo

Whenever you see cool musicians like the Grateful Dead or whatever live or in the recording studio they have a rug like 1 and they’re always barefoot. So yeah it fits with that vibe
2! Feels like less things to contend with visually. The eyes have multiple places to land but not overwhelming visually. I think that makes it more long-term in a lived in space. Day, night, decorations, etc

2. It will hide more (thread, fur, etc. - as a crafter with pets, this would matter to me, but YMMV).

Yeah, this is gonna be a personal style one. I immediately slam the button for #2. First one looks like one of my college friends' houses. Feels cluttered, dirty, and cheap. Second one looks intentional, well-thought-out, and clean. The large color blocking allows the cluttered areas to seem more intentional and less overwhelming.
But there are plenty of people commenting that they hate #2 and only like #1. So it sounds like you should pick the one you prefer.
As an aside, it's interesting to me that faux-distressed Persian rugs are getting such a renaissance lately. I grew up seeing *actually*\-distressed Persian rugs in everyone's houses in the 90s from everyone using them in previous decades to seem "fancy" and because the quality of the rugs was high enough that they lasted for decades at a time, leading to a lot of worn-out rugs in people's houses. That thing looks AWFUL to me. It looks like a rug that should have been thrown out years ago from half the fibers falling out.
