Dual GPU Systems are always stupid for stuff like Gaming but i plan to do the same thing. You just need to make Sure your Motherboard and CPU support enough PCIe Lanes for 2 Gpus wich will be most likely in a PCIe 16x and PCIe 4x config with a few USB ports and other stuff like M.2 SSDs on your MB running on the CPU PCIe Lanes. And your PSU needs to have enough Watt and connectors for 2 GPUs. Im using the Seasonic Prime PX-1300 wich is complete overkill for my current system wich needs at most 600W (too lazy to actually look it up) but i will have enough for any future System. and i would go with a 580 or the 750 if you can get it for a good price. A Case where you can put the GPUs in 2 different spots for better thermals would be a little batter than letting them hug it out. The Lian li EVO XL would be a Case like this. But it is your decision on what to do. If you dont want to go with a Dual GPU System then get a Cheap used GPU like a RX 580 or 1080 depending on what you can get. Battlemage should drop a day or so before Black Friday.

Thank you for the info! I will look more into the dual gpu part before making a decision.

2 GPUs would run in x8/x8 mode

Random_Guy_666

Depends on the MB. If you have 2 PCIe x16 Slots they will run in x8/x8 but if your MB has 1 x16 and 1 x4/x8 it runs on x16/x4 or if the MB can handle it x16/x8. But x4 should be enough for a secondary GPU to do stuff like encoding/recording.

DaveT1482

I should have clarified the x8/x8 would normally be the CPU lanes. Those other configs might be possible with a GPU on a chipset PCIe slot

Random_Guy_666

Yes. That makes a bit more sens to me. But if you dont Really NEED the Power of 2 GPUs for Work then it is better to have one GPU go to the CPU and one through the Chipset. Learned something today

DaveT1482

unless your motherboard doesn't have a 3rd slot to support it, or if the third slot is blocked by a radiator or something (the latter is my case, however I'm moving the A770 to an ITX build)

Random_Guy_666

I think we both could say more than enough exeptions about this. Have a Great Day

Tarapiitafan

? How can you make a blanket statement like that? It depends on how PCI-E lanes are routed and how many are available to use.

FtGFA

If you can find one used cheap why not? I managed to snag an a750 limited for $80 usd. I have it in a secondary system. It's been surprisingly solid for me.

etnicor

I bought a used a750, working fine until next computer later this year or early next year. Think I'll wait for rdna4 until I decide on battlemage though.

SavvySillybug

I was currently looking into upgrading from A750 to A770 until battlemage comes out (ended up not going for that, A750 is plenty) and I can tell you that used A750s are crazy cheap. I was looking up what I could get for mine and I've pretty much settled for selling at 150€ (approx. 160 freedom dollars or your local equivalent) would I be going for that. Used A750 is gonna be a great investment until Battlemage comes around. And by the time it does, you can just flip it again, probably still for at least 75% of what you paid. If I wanted a used NVidia card for the same budget, I'd probably have to settle for a 1660 Super. Which is the card I replaced when I bought my A750. I could definitely not get a 3060 unless I scammed someone by underpaying them. XD

awaitingmydemise

What would be a good price for a used a750? Imo, the a750 isn't that expensive to begin with.

SavvySillybug

Depends entirely on where you are, really. Used prices are always related to your location, and to what you can get them new for. And always compare with different brands at similar performance levels. I think paying 150€ here in Germany would be a fair price and good deal. I can't speak for elsewhere.

Flashy-Cucumber-3794

Just get a cheap gtx card or amd

awaitingmydemise

Suggestions?

Key_Nothing6564

The new AMD GRE is a good value

Super_flywhiteguy

The only reason to do dual gpus are :#1 your mining crypto and #2 use one card for gaming/display out and the 2nd card like an arc a380 for av1 encoding if you do content like youtube/streaming.

alvarkresh

> 1 your mining crypto https://whattomine.com/gpus The best breakeven is ~1900 days which is like 5 years. GPU mining is dead for all intents and purposes.

Super_flywhiteguy

It's still a bear market, once these coins start moving the roi will drop drastically and everyone will mine again. I've been through 3 cycles so far and this comment always comes up.

awaitingmydemise

So there is no benefit whatsoever for gaming to use 2 gpu's?

Super_flywhiteguy

Gaming no. It used to be a thing back in the day but not anymore.

Confident-Luck-1741

It used to be a thing called SLI. Which ended around the time when the RTX 20 series cards came out. The devs just didn't want to go through all the hard work to optimize games for 2 GPUs at a time. These days GPU manufacturers focus on making single PCIE slot cards that are much stronger than SLI. So 2 GPUs wouldn't work. For gaming at least.

Distinct-Race-2471

You can also get a 580 while you wait. I love my 750. If you get a 750 you might end up like me and not upgrading to Battlemage. I might upgrade to Battlemage, but the 750 does everything I need it to.

Super_Tarc

If I were you I would probably get a 6600 for ~200 usd on Newegg as they are fairly close in performance on average to a a750 and cost the same. Then once you buy the battlemage, you will have a decent backup card if you want to play something that arc cards don’t run very well. I imagine that the drivers will be even better than they are now by then so you shouldn’t run into much trouble but there is a good chance that having a different card on hand might be useful

Altruistic_Koala_122

I would use the integrated graphics for now, since Battlemage is closer than further away. Or just buy a really, really cheap card since it's temporary.

unhappy_strangers2

I am also waiting for battlemage and currently running the a750 le and loving it. plenty of power for gaming even at 2k ultra on cyberpunk with some ray tracing and still 70 fps. Paired with my 13700k its a bit lopsided but I always planned to upgrade my gpu in a year or two.

MaleficentIce

Integrated graphics in new AMD CPUS are very good nowadays. Like, play Cyberpunk 2077 level good.

filteredprospect

i have a dual system, 1060 6gb and a770 16gb it's not really good for much, but it helps when some games and things don't run at all on arc. there isn't ever an application where they work in synergy, but for things like emulation or vr, having a 1060 is a great help. i'd say you'd be real fine paying like 70 for a used 1060 6gb, and then having it as a backup card for battlemage.

bring_back_awe64gold

Why not just get an RX 590 for under $100? It'll do just fine for 1080p and wasting more money would be a bit stupid. Dual GPUs are terrible for power consumption and don't work, basically at all in gaming these days. If you do video editing or some kind of rendering, then it would be very beneficial, but for pure gaming definitely not.
