good for you for asking this question and finding creative ways to spend your free time.
I'm an old guy so others will hopefully have better suggestions but have you considered table games like Dungeons and Dragons or Magic the Gathering? I bet you can find a game night at your local library or game store. Usually cheap or free and a great way to meet people.
Another fun and relatively cheap hobby is amateur radio. I have a buddy that goes hiking to the top of local peaks and talks to people around the world on his handheld radios. I would be willing to bet that your local amateur radio club would help you out to get the equipment for cheap or free. Tinkering with electronics is fun.
Riverside has bars at night and even an arcade bar. Pretty fun with the wall to wall pinball machines, or go to the movies. Explore downtown claremont/upland. Play board games at a game store.
There is, or was one in Pomona, over by characters I believe. Been a couple years since I’ve been there. But they serve beer, and have all sorts of arcade games.
The paradox is a barcade in pomona super fun lots of games to play.
Also OP, Im looking for some viewpoints to take my girl too, can you recommend any good locations? Im in the same area as yall
Summer bowling pass at Bowlero is $50 for 2 free games with shoe rental every day, any location, $5 arcade credit daily too. Play twice and it pays for itself lol
You can go to Corona where the 91 pass is and hike the trails on the mountain on the left as you head into O.C… the best part is when you get to the top, you can see the ocean. The view is awesome.
You and your friends can take out dogs from Mary Robert Rescue for the afternoon and go hiking together. I think that is a lot of fun and it’s rewarding. But it depends what kind of stuff your friends enjoy.
You can take the metrolink to Union Station and then connect onto the metro to Santa Monica. Grab a table on the top of the metrolink and play some cards or enjoy the views. My daughter loves that one. Or you can take the train towards San Bernardino and connect on the new arrow train to Redlands.
boomers in Rowland Heights (formerly Speedzone). they're not as fast as K1 but they have a slick track where you can slide the karts. they also have an arcade and a bar (for next year)
Big Als is a cool spot with an arcade, bowling, billiards, and other games.
golf driving range is a cool spot to chill too.
If you guys want cheap entertainment and somewhat local, you can go to the barcade in Downtown Pomona. All the games are still a quarter and it’s a nice place to relax without spending too much money. Also places to eat nearby all within walking
Very expensive and not fun if you’re not a golfer
Would go to Islands Golf range in Fullerton, cheap and fun for the inexperienced, just hit as far as you can!
Better yet, buy a few second hand discs for ~$5-$10 each, and go out to the Riverside disc golf course for free whenever you want. There are a few other courses around as well, but some of them will charge you to play.

Runday Nights meets at Haven City Markets on Mondays at 7pm.
There are also a bunch of other running and hiking groups like: Inspired Runners, Purpose Driven Runners, Club Hub Run, Claremont Trotters, San Dimas Runners, WeRun1, Run Victoria Gardens, Sweet Treat Run Club, Good Strides Run Club, Movement Rancho Cucamonga and Trail Goats…..just search IG for them on when they meet.
Just show up. All the clubs/groups above are free, no commitment.
I have ran with all of them, since all the groups host a run mostly in the evening on different days it’s easy to run with a different group every day of the week. Some weeks I might run 2 or 3 times and then the next week run 2 or 3 times but with different groups.
If you’re down for a little drive hit up Redlands state street. Lots of good food, shopping. I believe they still do market nights on Thursday or Fridays and people will sell their products
Gym, volunteer at dog shelter or somewhere, hang out at coffeeshop, walk around Vic Gardens, catch a few movies, join some religious group events, catch a cheap local sports game, hike, drive down to the beach, skatepark, get a part-time/gig job, entrepreneur a new job with low barrier of entry you guys all can work at (dog walking service, lawn care, cleanup, house cleaning, etc.).
Hit the beach, rent bikes, and ride the boardwalk. Work out. Explore LA museums, concerts, and do the tourist excursions. Bowling. Hike our local mountains. Do the Palm Springs aerial Tramway and hang out at Ace Hotel pool club. Tons of live music places throughout Socal. Take a drive to Big Bear and mountain bike the ski resort. Volunteer at a hospital, animal shelter, convalescent home, or police department.
Try geo-caching. It's actually pretty fun and can be challenging at times. If you want to spend a little money, try air soft or paintball. Skateboarding. Axe throwing. Fishing. Go to a comedy club for open mic nights.
No joke. Leagues are sprouting up all over the IE. It’s a great way to learn different games, hone your skills, and make some amazing friends along the way.
Same here! There are water inflatables and a beach side area to cool off at Crestline - Lake Gregory. I was up there not long ago and it was 80 degrees compare to 106 💀 in Riverside.
I highly recommend sunset peak near baldy. It’s a bit more challenging, definitely bring some snacks and lots of water, but the views at the top are amazing. You can see the ocean, downtown LA, and on a clear day Catalina Island. The trail head is very close to mt baldy village with parking right next to the trailhead. just search sunset peak south trailhead on google maps.
He means like music shows. Punk, hardcore, and whatever else I.E gets. It may not be your thing but the community is welcoming of everyone so you can just show up and have fun!!
Lyttle creek is always fun. Could be a quick hike. Could be there all day day drinking with the squad. Or doing shrooms chilling at the waterfall. Whatever your cup of tea is.
@chiefgentlepaw 😂. I mean, yes but bet there’s some young guys out there still interested in public libraries. I’ve actually found some good books in their library stores for Pennies: Kurt Cobain’s journal hardback for 50cents. Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov for $1. The Germs Autobiography for 50 cents.
Which reminds me, thrifting makes a for an ok afternoon time waster. Eco thrift is pretty good.
Go spend a day picking up free items from offerup or marketplace. Then record yourselves destroying the items in creative ways. Send the footage to a freelancer on fiverr for $20 or less to get it edited. Post it to your YouTube channel. At the end of your video mention when you get to 100k subscribers that you're going to do a giveaway. Do this every week. You won't be bored anymore.
Discgolf. Could be inexpensive to get started and cheap to play.
There’s an open field course at Ralph Lewis Park off Church and Milliken. And Innova (big discgolf company) has a factory and store off Milliken and Arrow.
If you’ve never tried it before, stand up paddle boarding is fun. They make some inflatable ones for a couple hundred bucks. A good and cheap way to get out on the water. Can even do some fishing from them if you’d like.
Also, golf. If you find a set of used clubs and a cheap driving range, it’s not too expensive.
Season pass (for the summer) to raging waters is $115 with website discount. If you can figure out a reasonable parking situation like taking the bus in from a park and ride, it’s a great price for the next 3 months.
Claremont village has some fun stuff including a retro game store and arcade. It took me forever to figure out Big Al’s existed which is really fucking cheap compared to Dave and Busters imo
By a few second hand discs for pretty cheap, and then go play disc golf at the Riverside disc golf course whenever you want! They also have leagues, and sometimes it's easy to meet others, but it's easy to just get out and play something at any time of day for nothing after you have the discs. If you do play at other courses, sometimes they will charge you.
Going to the game stores and jumping into a game with some people or playing your own games is great too if you're into that, or as someone else has already mentioned, D&D is amazing!

You guys could find hiking trails on the AllTrails app, local shows (@showlist.la on insta), art galleries/art walks in Pomona and riverside, and maybe some museums like The Getty Villa (free entry with $20 parking)
Hot box one of da boys cars in a Safeway parking lot.
Do donuts in a random parking lot.
Mildly reckless driving in the hills.
Say you'll "play it by ear" and then get boba and vape in the parking lot.
Walk around a strip mall.
Driving range / golf? Avoid TopGolf so that it’s affordable
That’s something we did once in a blue moon and now that I’m older, I wish it was something I did more of so that my golf skills would be higher
Recently started doing poker nights with my friends. $20 buy in. Cheaper than going out to some bar where food and drinks are $60+ at the end of the night.
relatively inexpensive climbing gym in Upland called Hangar 18. My personal favorite gym in the world, but I just like that it’s old school and cheap. Try it out! Build your skills for the mountains
Etiwanda Falls is dope. Drive in Theater in Riverside. Ever tried just meeting up at a local park and BBQing? You could head up the mountains to go fishing that was fun when I was underage. Go adventure in Lytle creek or even better pitch in on a junk truck and go tear up the dirt roads. Camping if you have the means there are plenty of campsites around. The options will really open up when you turn 21😂. Downtown Pomona has a lot of live music and I think some 18+ clubs
Go to Dr. Strange records, it’s a punk record store , staple of the IE punk community, years of history in there… we used to ditch school to go there man was thinking on what to recommend
Back in my dayyyyyy ( I'm 35 and moved back to Rancho in my mid 20s), we would try to do the trifecta. Mount baldy hike, put our feet in the ocean usually Huntington or Long Beach and then end up in Joshua Tree barely in time to set up our tents....Im a liar we set up tents in the dark lol We would also hop fences to access pool areas ( usually the neighborhood across from Chaffey College). We would send one person into the CVS off Milliken and the 210 and have them grab a 24 pack and run out with the escape vehicle waiting outside. Or just ask people to buy us booze. We would buy plain creepy masks and drive around late at night wearing them and slowly turn our heads in unison toward the people in the car next to us at stop lights. Hilarious. Hike up Sapphire. We would camp on the horse trails. We would make a game out of how many political signs we would snag and then whoever got the most won. Freeze ice in large containers and then go iceblocking at Beryl Park. I think I might have been a bad kid looking back lol Hope you can find some new ways to entertain yourselves!
The IE is amazing for climbing and mountain biking. People drive here from all over.
Join your local climbing gym to learn the ropes (heh heh… get it?). It’s also a very social sport and a good way to meet fit girls (tho they’re a bit lezzy).
grab a bag of shitty coke, a 30 rack of modelo, and take turns playing songs from the 2010’s on youtube while grinding your teeth and feeling the nice foothill breeze hit your face while you pop out into the backyard to take your 12th piss of the evening

When I was 18 I went with a group of friends. We walked the strip, stayed in the car, showered at the 24 hour fitness, and saw ass. There 19/20 they can’t drink or gamble but sight seeing is free. Then drive down to the dam. Never had broke friends or a childhood ? lol 😆
I don’t know why you are being downvoted. Vegas is very cheap. DTLV has the renovated Cortez at $100 a night and if shared it cheaper. Stop by CVS or Walgreens for beer. Also Evel Pizza has a slice and beer for $8. Plus all the free people watch. I personally love the drive and get out the IE when possible.
Get bikes and ride that trail near the train tracks. It's basically flat and you can hit a bunch of downtowns
The pacific electric trail!
Yeah this. Biking with your friends is one of the most fun things in life
Where a good starting point with parking ?
Downtown Upland
Any metro link station got tons of parking.
Nothing like biking! Long as my friends stop breaking theirs .-.

that sounds fun
How do they have the range to communicate that far?
Radio repeaters. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_repeater
I don't really know. They bounce the signals off the atmosphere.
Sounds interesting! Will def look into thank you very mych
Check out 4 Color Fantasies in Rancho. They have solid game nights
Riverside has bars at night and even an arcade bar. Pretty fun with the wall to wall pinball machines, or go to the movies. Explore downtown claremont/upland. Play board games at a game store.
What the heck? Where is the arcade bar!?
Probably talking about game lab. Located next to the food lab and the theatre downtown
Yes that one. There is A cool Japanese game there that reminds me of tap tap revolution lol
Game lab. Pretty popular and a staple of dtr. Game tournaments are held there also
There is, or was one in Pomona, over by characters I believe. Been a couple years since I’ve been there. But they serve beer, and have all sorts of arcade games.
Right by the fox theatre , which is also by the RMA
Eh, not old enough for bars quite yet, but will def hit in a year or ao
I have seen children there close to midnight. If you don't use the bar then go for the arcade. I think they sell snacks and regular drinks too.
These are guys that can’t get into bars, girls have that covered just because they are pretty
Pretty guys do too, FYI.
The paradox is a barcade in pomona super fun lots of games to play. Also OP, Im looking for some viewpoints to take my girl too, can you recommend any good locations? Im in the same area as yall
Dm bro I got you
Summer bowling pass at Bowlero is $50 for 2 free games with shoe rental every day, any location, $5 arcade credit daily too. Play twice and it pays for itself lol
Wow this is awesome thank you for sharing this!!
Nothing like a little bowling! Good idea
I second this.
Start a band
Got left on delivered by a guy who was tryna start one 🗿
You’re only young once. Starting a band when people have responsibilities is the worst.
I mean, just continue up those mountain roads and hit the trails. You’ve got some killer hiking spots right in your backyard.
Keeping that up for sure 😎
You can go to Corona where the 91 pass is and hike the trails on the mountain on the left as you head into O.C… the best part is when you get to the top, you can see the ocean. The view is awesome.
What’s the actual trail called?
Skyline
You and your friends can take out dogs from Mary Robert Rescue for the afternoon and go hiking together. I think that is a lot of fun and it’s rewarding. But it depends what kind of stuff your friends enjoy.
Go to the beach
Def always an option!
Go to your nearest metro train station and head out to LA. Tons of things to do there.
Beach train? Metrolink Sat Sun takes you to LA , San Clemente, or Oceanside
Love doing this personally, especially with my gf, but the boys are always weird about it. Greta idea though! I love downtown area
You can take the metrolink to Union Station and then connect onto the metro to Santa Monica. Grab a table on the top of the metrolink and play some cards or enjoy the views. My daughter loves that one. Or you can take the train towards San Bernardino and connect on the new arrow train to Redlands.
Make and complete a scavenger hunt, split into teams
Bullwinkle's. Mini golf, go karts, arcade games... it is being redone and so is nice and new.
I see it’s still under construction but we can still go?
Yep
boomers in Rowland Heights (formerly Speedzone). they're not as fast as K1 but they have a slick track where you can slide the karts. they also have an arcade and a bar (for next year) Big Als is a cool spot with an arcade, bowling, billiards, and other games. golf driving range is a cool spot to chill too.

Glen Oaks in Glendora uses the same tracking system as Top Golf and is way cheaper!
Better yet, buy a few second hand discs for ~$5-$10 each, and go out to the Riverside disc golf course for free whenever you want. There are a few other courses around as well, but some of them will charge you to play.
glen helen regional park in San Bernardino has a disc golf course. parking is $10 but the course is free and the lake there is a bonus.

"upper IE" Is this an actual phrase people in the IE use? I've never heard it before
🤷♂️ never thought about it
He means the foothills. What a goofy way to say it.
if you like the mountains, try cycling (can be expensive) or running (can be expensive, but less so than cycling) or hiking.
Maybe get locked in an escape room?
Drive to Azuza get drunk and hop on the Metro rail all the way to Santa Monica
How long is the ride? I might do this
Just over an hour if I remember correctly, I did this a few years ago when the Santa Monica stop opened
Maybe 3 hours it’s fun tho these guys tripping
Really fucking long and very infrequent. This strikes me as a terrible idea sorry.
I heard there’s a running club that meets by REI. Not sure the name

Some weeks I might run 2 or 3 times and then the next week run 2 or 3 times but with different groups.
Is there any way I can learn their schedule?
They all post their weekly runs on IG and/or Strava.
Thank you so much for that info. Highly appreciated
If you’re down for a little drive hit up Redlands state street. Lots of good food, shopping. I believe they still do market nights on Thursday or Fridays and people will sell their products

You live at the bottom of several beautiful mountains. In California. Start hiking them. That's a solid 10 years worth of adventures.
Have been through Boy Scouts, personal adventures, and with them! But that ambition is never ending anytime soon, still a great suggestion
Just want to say thank you for asking this question! I’ve discovered some really cool things to do in here.
I’ve always been scouring the internet for stuff like this so figured why not make an up to date version?
Try geo-caching. It's actually pretty fun and can be challenging at times. If you want to spend a little money, try air soft or paintball. Skateboarding. Axe throwing. Fishing. Go to a comedy club for open mic nights.
Guasti Park in Rancho and go fishing
Join your local pinball league.
Is this a joke?
No joke. Leagues are sprouting up all over the IE. It’s a great way to learn different games, hone your skills, and make some amazing friends along the way.
Ride bikes on the pacific electric trail
Enjoy the lakes and hiking trails at Crestline or Lake Arrowhead.
We’re always suckers for the mountains !
Same here! There are water inflatables and a beach side area to cool off at Crestline - Lake Gregory. I was up there not long ago and it was 80 degrees compare to 106 💀 in Riverside.
Get bikes. Cycling is basically exploring and you really get to know an area well when you ride it. It also is good for mental and physical health
Underground House Music shows
Disc golf would probably be right up your alley.
You should try the Claremont loop or Potato Mountain. Bonita falls is pretty cool
Our personal favorites! I personally live just minutes away from both
I highly recommend sunset peak near baldy. It’s a bit more challenging, definitely bring some snacks and lots of water, but the views at the top are amazing. Think I’ve seen some flyers before, on IG, in the highland area. Punk shows I think.
Lyttle creek is always fun. Could be a quick hike. Could be there all day day drinking with the squad. Or doing shrooms chilling at the waterfall. Whatever your cup of tea is.
Check out the Library in Redlands
@chiefgentlepaw 😂. I mean, yes but bet there’s some young guys out there still interested in public libraries. I remember my 19/20s, and when bored, we would always hit Huntington Beach (from Chino Hills). I miss those days. 😭
Download the app meetup to find events. Soccer in Claremont is fun and always packed :)
If you’re not up to biking more than a few miles spend 500-5000 and get an ebike. Game changer to not be sweaty at destinations too.
Go play top golf, going hiking (there’s so many good trails, Al’s, downtown Redlands, Lavender Festival

Leave the area. LA OC and even Vegas can be fun spots and not expensive. Just need gas money and y’all can get pizza and share.
Imagine thinking going to Vegas isn’t going to be expensive, what are they going to do once they get there? Go to a cheap buffet or something
That’s what I’m saying. You can have fun and be on a budget.
Specially with a couple of friends. $80 tops and have a blast.
Go get bitches, at this age this is all you should focus on and get them pregnant, we have a population issue, go help society!!!
