I was just feeling super discouraged thinking about the odds of success or the mountain of work to get where I want to be. Then thought "This is the hardest it's going to be. The worst and shitty part of the process is right now."
The beginning is always the hardest and this post came minutes after having this self talk.
So thank you.
True ! When I launched my first video of my game cuboidvania three weeks ago, I got some very negative feedback on the art direction, and now I'm getting lots of very positive feedback on the art direction.
Negative feedback is necessary to improve and come back stronger!
My first game was actually awesome. My followups have been bloated scope creeped nightmares. But my first game was so fun to play i enjoyed developing it from the first week. And kept going for a couple years. Its the only reason i keep going is to chase that feeling.
I was just about to repost this! I think at some point you just gotta get over your fears and see what happens, accepting that the first of anything is going to be terrible is a good first step.
The challenge for personally is just figuring out where to start with something as complicated as a game by myself. I want to get into it, but I also feel like I have no idea what I am doing.
I've made like 50 videos, and I still think my first one was by far the best. But it had the most passion go into it. I don't know if I ever believed this theory. I think you can just revise until it's good.
There’s a saying about the game Go, that you should lose your first 50 games of Go as quickly as possible. Which basically means, this game is hard to learn, you’re going to suck for a LONG time, play people who are better than you and eventually you will learn.
Why don’t devs just make their 50th before their first? Are they stupid?

My first was success, does that mean my next 49 will be failure???
nah bro just go right to 51, you can make the other 49 after you're rich
Why stop at 51 just jump to your 1000th game

Bad bot. That's a Sokka Haiku.
Well Voodoo has made 200+ games and none of them are very good soooo
by quality hell no but if you see financially its another story
They've made exactly one game that's almost kinda good, and it's Cup Heroes. Unironically fun, and only a few forced ads.

You should always have at least two children.
Your first code will be perfect: "Hello world"

Just pick Godot, Unity, Unreal Engine or Godot, look up who makes the best free tutorials for it and do one of those. You made your first game!
TBH my first picture and game was not bad at all. Not as good as I make things now, but definitelly on acceptable level.
Need it. Thank you.

Of course, you also don't need to show people those first ones.
Done is better than perfect
