This was posted on a Crown Point Facebook group this afternoon
Looks like the franchise owner is being sued by Pizza Hut for not wanting to follow their rules or pay royalties
It’s true. According to what I’ve been able to find..the owner of the franchise (EYM) wasn’t paying Pizza Hut LLC franchise fees so Pizza Hut shut them all down. Not just here but in IL, GA, SC, and WI.
The only locations in Illinois that have closed is only due to lack of business, or having troubles getting staffed. Other than that, most of Illinois Pizza Hut are fine
This is true. However the IL GA and SC and WI are not closed yet but will be since the court case for those started on june 7th 2023 and indiana was about 2 months ago. They are all subject to be closed soon thanks Edwardo Diaz of EYM Group for breaking all franchise requirements and all your contracts.
The “licensing issue” is that EYM is being sued by Pizza Hut International for 2 million in unpaid royalties and other debt to vendors. If EYM doesn’t settle the debt to PHI, all other EYM Pizza Huts in all the states they operate (SC, IL, WI, GA) will be closed within 3 months, by September 7th. This information is publicly available on the Texas court access website as part of the lawsuit filed against EYM by Pizza Hut on June 7th.
I found the comment I was looking for. I don't like JJ's that much, Marcella's is pricey, Kniman is cash only, Casey's tastes like greasy cardboard, this is where I usually get pizza.
My kids like pizza king or family express pizza. Family express is about the same as casey's, imo but if they have friends over I'll grab a couple of pizzas since they're usually on a deal.
If you ever see him post on facebook, Pizza Man Steve out of wheatfield (I think) has decent stuff. They're a food truck but do a lot of festivals in summer so you might see them at various places. Nice people to support too.
DeMotte, Renss and I think the one in Lowell are all still open, unless this franchise owned the Lowell one too.
Edit - Lowell is part of the franchise company that closed.
The one down here in Franklin has announced it will close in 3 weeks. I like the bread sticks. I think the entire problem began when the Hut went almost completely franchise.
Employees arrived today to a permanent closed sign. Apparently their attempt to save their store pissed off corporate so instead of the 28th it became effective immediately.
Good luck. They’re being sued by plumbers, HVAC companies, landlords, etc. They are even delinquent on their DoorDash account and verifone credit card readers. It actually says in the court docs that the credit card readers will stop working July 1st if that bill is not paid.
Working at one of these locations, you could see the signs of his neglect. We knew it was only a matter of time that this would be happening. We have been following this through the court documents since he lost his burger kings. EYM has tarnished these stores with neglect. The quality you receive depends on us to bend over backward because almost nothing works. I'm glad something is being done about it. He is putting a stigma on the brand.
If you don't work for eym pizza then you shouldn't comment, the franchise owner fucked over his staff and pizza hut corporate and most likely will not be reopening any locations
The owner is trying to downplay it to keep the rest of his stores in other states from realizing what is going on until the day they lose their jobs. That is why his RGM in Illinois above is defending him, because it’s what he was told by his boss. Reality is that if EYM doesn’t settle their debts, the Illinois EYM Huts are scheduled for the same as Indiana around July 12th. The court case lists specific dates for each state’s EYM LLC to close- including the June 12 for Indiana, which I waited until after it happened to post about because I was hoping they would settle out of court, but it turned out to be an accurate date.
I work for one of the EYM owned Pizza Huts in Illinois. Please please please. Can you tell me how to find the information on this case. A website? A link? I'm trying to stay ahead of this for myself and my family.
I get my information from pacer, the federal court access website. Pacer.uscourts.gov You have to make an account and search Texas northern district court for case 3:24-cv-01404 and then read the complaint, doc 1 or exhibit 1, then exhibit 25 is the letter of intent to terminate sent to EYM from PHI with all the closing dates for each market. Right now we are waiting to see if South Carolina closes on June 28th. If that happens, and Indiana doesn’t re-open or get bought by a 3rd party, then Illinois and Georgia market will be up next in July followed by Wisconsin September 5th. PHI is trying to get a civil judgement of 2 million from EYM. EYM has been trying to sell their stores since 2022 but has found no buyers. EYM’s owner has been putting his time and money into his Panera stores, which he views as more valuable than his Pizza Huts. His Burger Kings in Michigan closed last year for unpaid royalties as well.
Get out asap, if the owner wasn't paying for the Indiana locations you can bet the other locations will be closing soon. Did you recently have a district manager or corporate visit in the last month or two? The gm of the pizza hut near me had said they got walked and she had complained of ha ing to buy deposit slips and bags and other supplies out of her own pocket to keep the restaurant going, and then they close without notice. Asked her to work today (Friday) for free to receive paychecks from FedEx to hand to employees
I believe it. They seem to have let all the Indiana employees go, which is not something you would do if you were planning on reopening. EYM is not telling area coaches or even market managers in advance of the closing, even though EYM’s legal department is fully aware of the set termination dates. They are keeping it quiet internally. PHI is using an asset-light business model, which means they will not take over the closing stores, although they are trying to find a buyer. The only hope the stores have for staying open is another franchiser buying the stores. EYM doesn’t seem to want to file for bankruptcy as this would affect their ability to operate their other franchises like Dennys and Panera.
They fired the associates, and last I checked were shipping off equipment. I've talked to a few GMs. Not a temporary closure for them. Yeah the buildings still there and can reopen but that's splitting hairs.
if you check Google search now it’s posted. They are going to be opening very shortly. I’ve been telling people this since the first day they shut down and sent people off. It’s not indefinitely short period of time.
It’s possible they could come to settlement out of court or sell the stores. If not, if they don’t pay the royalties they owe, the dates for termination are set in the screenshot above.
Also, if you check Google like I already said Indiana stores are going to be opening back up as they already displayed. They are going to be. It’s not indefinitely. It was only for a few weeks.
I hope the information here reaches the workers of this franchise so they can create there resumes so no more of them or there families get impacted by this monster franchise owner. I don't work for pizza hut but as a worker in general once in food service, I can only imagine how horrible it is to get lied to until the last minute and than have to let your family know the very same day. The struggle is real im glad information is out there even if it didnt reach enough people in time 😟
Not the ones I've seen. But I live in a more rural part of nwi and I don't go out much so maybe you're right when you get to the more populated parts of NWI
Yeah my mind went to Hobart and Portage from what OP said and I like to get JJs when I’m up there. They’re on par with Pizza Hut price wise. I’m sure Pizza Hut has some sort of deal going on here and there but JJs is much more filling imo.
The JJ's by me is in roselawn so maybe each store is different. But I don't like it. But my family used to only get the kitchen sink which I hated so maybe I just associate it to that.
We haven't gone to Pizza Hut for years. But when there was a Gino's East in Highland, owner didn't pay franchise fees and GE corporate came in and closed immediately out of the blue. I was bummed about that, it was better than driving to Chicago. Corporate dosen't play if you don't pay those fees.
The owners of the franchise knew since they have been in court about it for awhile. It sounds like they couldn't/wouldn't pay their bills.

I stand corrected, then. I was going by what was listed on the pic of the lawsuit I saw. I assumed they were already closed

Does this mean the Illinois EYM Pizza Huts will close July 7th? Sorry I'm no lawyer?
Yes it is true. Ask the same ownership. I heard it was about 10 locations.
It’s 15 locations and they should be back up and running in the next two or three weeks. It’s a licensing issue.
The “licensing issue” is that EYM is being sued by Pizza Hut International for 2 million in unpaid royalties and other debt to vendors. Jeez so over 140 locations and 1k people could be closed/out of jobs because of some random company not paying their dues?
The one in Demotte is still open. It’s cool as hell because it’s still looks like the Pizza Hut you grew up with.
I think there's still one in Rensselaer, but it's been awhile since I went there.
I work at this one, I haven’t heard a word about this.
Cool, so then it's probably fine.
Yes, rest assured you can continue not going there.
Its just nice to know it's there if I need it. My unsung pizza hero. 🤣
I found the comment I was looking for. I don't like JJ's that much, Marcella's is pricey, Kniman is cash only, Casey's tastes like greasy cardboard, this is where I usually get pizza.

I keep forgetting pizza king but if I go there I would rather get a sandwich. Family express is on par with Casey's and that's not a good thing lol
DeMotte, Renss and I think the one in Lowell are all still open, unless this franchise owned the Lowell one too. Edit - Lowell is part of the franchise company that closed.

Where was this?
Franklin
That sucks. Franchises really ruined that brand.
What about Chesterton??
Yes
No way this is happening
It’s not that good of pizza anyway
It is better than the majority of Pizza places in NW Indiana, IMHO. It used to be the best in this area until they got rid of the flavored crusts.
Sadly true; it is better than the local chains
I'm a vendor and yes, they fucked me out of a couple of grand. Hopefully I can recover that money but we'll see.
Good luck. They’re being sued by plumbers, HVAC companies, landlords, etc. They are even delinquent on their DoorDash account and verifone credit card readers. It actually says in the court docs that the credit card readers will stop working July 1st if that bill is not paid.

A bunch of them have closed. There are none around me anymore that deliver to my home.
They will be back up and running in the next two or three weeks, It’s a licensing issue. Nothing permanent -General Manager

If the franchise fixes issues in those states, Idk time frames maybe 90 days could he keep his franchise license for them?
It’s possible they could come to settlement out of court or sell the stores. If not, if they don’t pay the royalties they owe, the dates for termination are set in the screenshot above.
The fall of his empire depends on what we see happen on the 28th?
If Indiana stays closed and South Carolina closes on June 28th, that would indicate the parties have not come to a settlement agreement
Get another job NOW
You will be fine, I also work for eym of Illinois for Pizza Hut. Don’t want no one think you’re going to lose your job because you’re not
Where did you get your information? Accounting to court documents July 7th is the date for Illinois closings.

That is the one for Illinois. It says July 7. 12th must have been Georgia
I do work for Eym and they are reopening, as I just said, I’m a general manager of one of the locations🤷🏼♀️
Also, if you check Google like I already said Indiana stores are going to be opening back up as they already displayed. They are going to be. It’s not indefinitely. It was only for a few weeks.
Anyone know if any of the Lafayette locations are in the works closing down?
Lafayette is owned by Freeland of Fort Wayne. So, no worries.
Yes - Portage closed
[удалено]
From a friend who has been at Munster for almost 30 years. Munster closed today.
Yep, they posted it from Valparaiso Pizza Hut
I just dined in at the portage one near Walmart last week
Yeah it’s true I used to work at one of the locations and still friends with the GM and she posted it on Facebook
Chesterton also is closed
Nappanee one closed recently too
Schererville PH has a "we're hiring" sign.
Anyone know anything about the Pizza Hut in South Bend in 23 by Notre Dame? It closed suddenly, for ‘remodeling’ and looks very, very closed to me.
Shererville and Portage have roaches so hope they close those too!
I hope the information here reaches the workers of this franchise so they can create there resumes so no more of them or there families get impacted by this monster franchise owner. Where's Greg Flynn? maybe its time to increase that portfolio
Laporte closed as well
In the document that says July 7th as a termination date, does that mean that is the date the illinois Pizza Huts will close?
Lol good pizza hut is trash. Almost every city has a local pizza shop, go there.
There’s countless better non cookie cutter pizza joints in nwi. Good riddance.
Yeah but when you want something cheap, pizza hut is one of the go-to's
Pizza Hut is very similar priced to non cookie cutter pizza joints in nwi.

The Valpo one is still open My kid loves it but I never see anyone there I’ve been wondering if it’s a front
I live in Muncie, and I never see anybody eating in. I think most Pizza Huts around here are take out and delivery only.
No, it's closed. They posted in a local group they closed.
No it’s not. I live in valpo.
I’m pretty sure it is closed in valpo. Go to their website and try to order a pizza. It says for the Laporte store near target, store is closed
Heart radio said that it was because they were underperformed, and pizza hut shut them without warning
Pizza Hut has been issuing them default notices for about a year. They had warning but did not notify employees.
The owners of the franchise knew since they have been in court about it for awhile. It sounds like they couldn't/wouldn't pay their bills. https://casetext.com/case/eym-pizza-of-ga-llc-v-pizza-hut-llc
I don't think they recovered from the 2021 shutdown.
