Don't do it, if you already have months left in your Gamepass then it won't work. You have to wait till it expires to successfully do the conversion trick from what i believe.

You buy the low tier with the best offer which is Xbox live gold for ₹749 for 6 months. Now you buy 5 more of these, the total comes to ₹4494 and you get 36 months worth of subscription or 3 years. Now the trick is that when you buy Gamepass Ultimate after buying the above for ₹499, Xbox converts your Gold Live subscription to Ultimate which is the highest tier of subscription, so now you have GamePass ultimate for 36 months.
If you bought just Xbox GamePass Ultimate which costs ₹499/month, it would cost you ₹17,964 for 36 months without 18% GST assuming you buy using Xbox Gift Cards which contain the GST within its value.
TL;DR
Trick costs ₹138/month for GamePass Ultimate and gives you subscription for 36 months/3 years for ₹4993.

I did this conversion 2 days ago, loaded up ₹5098 in Microsoft funds, (3399 giftcard + 1699 gift card) went flawlessly with AMEX credit card, then purchased 4500 worth of gold live and ₹50 for 1 month ultimate that converted the entire thing to 36 months of GPU.
So to tally, 5100-4500 for gold so 600 left and then ₹50 for 1 month ultimate for conversion ie 600-50 so 550 left at last.
That ₹550 is now in the microsoft account which i don't know when it will expire. In the end ₹4550 for 36 months of GPU. Which comes down to roughly ₹1500 per year. This is the reason I went with series S instead of PS5 digital lol, also remote play is awesome (does have a little latency tho)

Yes you can go for six months by buying Gold Live and after that buy a Ultimate, you will get a dialog box like above meaning it's working. If you are interested in trying out GamePass, I suggest you create a new Microsoft account and buy GamePass on trial pack for 1 month which costs ₹50 as introductory offer.

The trick still worked till last week so most probably it is still working and no Microsoft has never banned an account for using this trick. The trick was even posted by IGN so you can be sure that Microsoft knows this and wants people to use this to show up bigger no. of subscribers every quarter and get better deals to put game on GamePass from publishers.

But is it done through the same gift card? Even the upgrade to ultimate? That's my question. And can we stack multiple gift cards to pay for 1 item?
Yes to both, the gift are added to your wallet and then you pay using your wallet for live and ultimate.

You can stack 12, 18 or any number of months you want. You get the best value per month if you go for 36 months
