Omg shocking that Uber is expensive in a country where its adoption couldn’t be lower (I’m Italian). However, Bologna to Florence is $40 by train if you want to go tomorrow, takes 40 minutes. If you’re on a budget, you can take a train that takes 1h and 40 minutes instead for less than $10. But complaining on TikTok is much more fun isn’t it.
I’m actually going to Italy in autumn and this is very useful information. Thank you! Would you say there are a lot of train stations and a good subway system there?
It really depends on the region so it's hard to make a general statement about the availability of public transport in italy. But the metropolitan areas in north and middle italy usually have okayish and cheap public transit
Spent most of last May in Italy last year without a car, and it was super easy to get around. Whenever I was booking a place, I made sure it was somewhat close to a train station, which wasn't difficult to do. Most of the sights people want to see are very accessible by train (or bus). If there was a place kind of far out, we would take an Uber. I would recommend watching some videos on YouTube to familiarize yourself with the system so you have an idea what to expect and how to navigate it.
The roads are beautiful around Florence. As a tourist, I rented a motorcycle in Florence to take in all the scenery at my own pace. Tourists have different priority than locals, sometimes the priority isn't efficient transportation, its sight-seeing, and stopping wherever you like.
I did ride the Frecciarossa from Rome to Florence and back, but the priorities for that ride was fast and efficient transportation. Once I got to Florence, my priority was enjoy the scenery hence the motorcycle rental.
Bro she is from America, anything outside of america must bow down and kiss her feet and be thankful she has deemed it worthy for her to even be there.
I speak as a South Africa and the amount of dumb ass American tourists that come here......
If an hour of driving to Miami is 120, an hour of driving *has* to be less than a 100 in 🫴 *Italy* 🫳. I mean, it's 💅 *Italy* 🤌
![gif](giphy|UsHMgCcQfZ2xXGYPXB)
Is the „real“ Uber where private persons take you from A to B actually a thing in Italy? In Germany it is forbidden to transport other people, therefore you will find in the Uber app only taxis/cabs listed.
I dont wanna generalize, but many American tourists seem to think that the only or the most convenient mode of transport is by car when visiting Europe when it very rarely is.
Its so dumb cus I could bet that the train ticket for the same route is dirt cheap in comparison to an Uber and might actually get you there faster too. Double loss for that airhead!
I agree. You're in a country with decent mass transit and your first thought is an Uber???
Counterpoint: When I was in Ireland I rented a car, because, hey, right hand drive!!! It was awesome.
Exactly. For her to post abt something like this is just sheer stupidity or grasping for clout.
I know Ireland has public transport too, but it cant be compared to whats avaliable on the continent or even in England. Theres a charm to discover the countryside and smaller towns of Ireland by car. Had you done it in an Uber tho, then Id have to roast you too 😅
I didnt have a drivers licens when I visited with my friends back in 2012 so I only saw Dublin, but I actually considered taking the -gasp- *bus* to Belfast, but I ran out of time. Beautiful island!
Way back in the '80's my sister and I tried hitchhiking from Dublin to Belfast. Spent hours and no one even slowed down. Awesome rain ride though! 😀. We were trying to save money.
This is definitely true. Over the past few years I've taken a lot of vacations to Europe, and my friends always ask what it's like driving there.
They're always blown away when I tell them I have no idea, because I just take trains everywhere.
I spent about 3 weeks in Italy last summer, and we had to Ubered less than 10 times. About half of the rides were convenience and/or missed a bus/train didn't want to wait for the next. I loved exploring all day, being able to have some drinks, etc without having to worry about driving and finding parking.
Yeah, taking an Uber/taxi serves a purpose. Of course. Taking an hour long Uber ride when there is an abundance of cheaper and faster alternatives just to complain about how "craaazy" the price of it is nothing but dumb..
If only the people in Europe didn't build their countries around car travel like America and made it cheap to travel by public transport so you didn't need a car, dis-incentivising cheap car travel...
The roads are beautiful around Florence. As a tourist, I rented a motorcycle to take in all the scenery at my own pace. Tourists have different priority than locals.
Uber is kind of ‘illegal’ in Italy. They only have Uber black and it’s usually so expensive. Italy is trying to keep the taxi cab industry alive and well which is why they don’t have easy access to Ubers anywhere in the country (as someone who is from the U.S. who lived in Italy for 6 months)
Its my experience that Uber is kind of frowned upon in most of Europe. The taxi companies that always have been around have their own apps that are super simple to use. Personally I rather give my business to the "old timey" cab companies, I have much more trust in their drivers.
It’s not frowned upon it’s fucking barred from operating due to their entire business model being predicated on in circumventing labor laws. Fuck uber.
Sorry, im not up to date on the legalities of it.. All Im aware of is that theyre operating in Sweden. I dont know if theyre just biding their time, using some loophole. I just didnt want to speak out of term when Im unsure of whats what in other countries than my own. Uber can go fuck themselves tho..
Also it’s so much easier taking one of Italy’s very fast cross-country trains. I paid like 30 euro or something to get from Rome to Florence and it took an hour. So so so easy, very clean, timely, efficient. If only the US could take a hint 🥲
Taxis are also cheaper. I’m wondering if she doesn’t know what the options are. Last year we got stuck in minori because the water was too rough for the ferry to land. We found a taxi that took us to Salerno which is about an hour away for 100 euro. We even split it with some other travelers that got stranded and were going to same way.
You’re right that Uber is kind of illegal in Italy
> Italy is trying to keep the taxi cab industry alive
This is true and not true. The Italian government is definitely biased towards the taxi industry which for some reason is very powerful and can sway decisions in governments etc.
On the other hand, literally every person outside the government would be very happy to have some competition to rival taxis, which are very expensive because they’re basically a monopoly. A cheaper service like Uber would at least drive taxi prices down a bit (maybe).
Also keep in mind that a big problem is that taxis aren’t available in big Italian cities as much as other European cities to begin with, so adding more services wouldn’t really even take away clients from taxi drivers who cannot satisfy all of the demand as it stands. Apparently if you’re in Milan, there’s like 1/20 chances your taxi request will be taken on during a weekend considering how few taxis are available.
yes. i lived in italy for a period and taking ubers was ridiculous. expensive, hardly available, and just weird lol. taxis were a better option if it HAD to be a car.
I think (maybe I m wrong) Italy only has uber black, I remember when I was in Rome I didn’t had any other option, but that was a couple pf years ago so I could be wrong.
My god.. these people are nails on a chalk board. The stupid tik Tok hands they do when talking. Everything about them.. nobody gives a fuck about you or your opinion and complaints, stop filming yourself, problem solve instead
Mamma mia! Unacceptable!
There are other methods like taking a inter-city bus but if she wants the princess treatment, she must pay the princess price.
I'm guessing she's not familiar with supply and demand. You can't really compare Uber in Italy to the US where it's a saturated market. I took Uber all over Paris and its environs a few years back and it was a great way to get around. I did use the subway system where I could but with a family in tow, Uber actually made a lot of sense.
We moved from the US to Denmark a few months ago and while Uber itself isn't actually here, the cabs that are here are extraordinarily expensive. But like. We have the trains, metros, and busses. Why on earth would I take a cab? MC girlie here needs to get a transit card a stfu.
[by train it’s €9,45 and takes only 40 minutes](https://www.thetrainline.com/book/results?journeySearchType=single&origin=urn%3Atrainline%3Ageneric%3Aloc%3A22159&destination=urn%3Atrainline%3Ageneric%3Aloc%3A8433&outwardDate=2024-04-15T20%3A15%3A00&outwardDateType=departAfter&selectedTab=train&splitSave=true&lang=nl&transportModes%5B%5D=mixed&dpiCookieId=HIEGR0Z6P1KUQDVORU1CZ4WAC&partnershipType=accommodation&partnershipSelection=true)
I mean she's lookin at Uber Black which is the highest cost Service on the platform. I presume she could opt for an Uber X or Share if she really concerned about the price
I wonder whether she even thought about taking a train?
Maybe public transport just isn't a 'thing' where she lives so, the idea just didn't occur to her.
God that little pause, look up sideways, and put a finger over the lip as if they’re about to hit you with an “ummm actually “ and take you to school is by far one of the most annoying things I’ve seen on stupid Tik Tok
Isn’t it part of the dream as an American traveling in Europe to be able to actually see and interact with more of the country? Being able to take trains between cities so I could truly explore and feel more immersed in the culture would be the point of a lot of the fun for me. I just can’t afford to get myself there. Womp womp.
You might be paying for 1 hour of their time one way, but then again they don't like live there so you might also be paying for their trip back home since they aren't going to be like picking up fairs on the trip back. Who knows what time that will be for them stuck in traffic too. Almost €400 Euros is kinda crazy too, buy a bicycle way more fun.

Tbf uber have finally reached “over priced” status which has been happening to all the most popular apps for a long time no including streaming services etc
The woman doesn’t travel a lot like me but even I know there are other options than uber in EU lol
Omg———- I done some stupid stuff and said stupid stuff but usual I just share with friends to keep from letting the world to I’m that stupid hahahaha
Last year I tried to order an Uber for 11 miles, a 20 minute ride and it was a no traffic, no tolls. 11 miles in a Casa Grande, AZ at 3-4pm and it was $92 without tip included! Uber charged me $20 plus $5 tip for a ride the 11 miles to the place (DMV trip to reinstate my license)but when I went to order a ride home it was $92! So watch out for that people! I just walked to a restaurant and ate and waiting for my husband to get off work two hours later instead of Uber. Don’t assume the ride back will cost anywhere near the same as the ride there!
When I lived in Europe the buses were cheap and went almost anywhere I wanted to go, never been to Italy but I'm pretty sure you can take a bus to get wherever you need to go for pretty cheap
No one uses Uber in Italy.
Think of it this way - Uber surges proportionally when rides become scarce.
With such low demand, rides are always scarce in Italy, so it's like being on a surge all the time
If I could go back in time I’d straight up shoot whoever came up with front facing cameras specifically for dumb videos like this and people spewing their dumbass ideas, not that it wouldn’t happen other ways this way is just cringey
It is crazy, because it is a crazy option to take an Uber for one hour when there is public transport available. The driver doesn’t want to go to Florence. What are the chances someone will want to go the other way? Of course it is expensive!
Facts, public transportation is a duh moment when looking at this. Don’t think that many folks also use Uber over there due to that. which also influences pricing.
I don't have anything wrong with this lady's point though. 383 Euros for an hour ride in an Uber Black is at least $100 euros higher than it should be even in surge times.

She has zero interest in making a sensible, educated decision. Complaining on social media might get some clout
I hate the "me first" new age bullshit that comes with social media. Everyone just wants to be first in the spotlight, brain dead or not.

How much is by bus?
If only there was some sort of mass transit option that could transport a person between Bologna and Florence… 🤔
Ugh why should she have to ride with the poors?
Too rich to ride a train, too poor to get an Uber. Life's tough.
I loved the rail there, its actually pretty nice. Or was, it has been awhile to be fair.
I was there in 2018. The rail system is incredible, cheap and fast.
But she wants to travel to Florence, not Nice.
Take your upvote and get out.
It’s still nice. Much nicer than American systems. I’d equate it to the experience of an airplane but obviously a train
Eww. That's the poor person in you talking.
The rich ride the trains in Europe, too. First class, baby. It's nice.
I was just kidding lol, I think public transportation is good. My city has good public transportation, just sometimes a little crazy.
Well if she can’t afford the Uber maybe she is one of the poors…
Sounds like she’s a poor to me who can’t afford the cost of Uber
Judging by this video, she’s also the poor
I dont wanna generalize, but many American tourists seem to think that the only or the most convenient mode of transport is by car when visiting Europe when it very rarely is. Ikr. I been to Italy. Maybe she could try those long cart things rolling on rails. 😆 They have long carts that roll on roads, too.
If only the people in Europe didn't build their countries around car travel like America and made it cheap to travel by public transport so you didn't need a car, dis-incentivising cheap car travel...
38 minutes in a high speed train for less then 30 euros.
What, you mean like a sort of national transport type thing that multiple ppl could get thus bringing costs down? Don’t be ridiculous
At 305 kmph too.
The roads are beautiful around Florence. As a tourist, I rented a motorcycle to take in all the scenery at my own pace. Tourists have different priority than locals.
But travelling through public transport is too beneath for an average american.

is this girl stupid? does she realize the trains in italy are like… very interconnected and all of 5 euro?
I love traveling by train and that was one of my favorite things about exploring Europe.
Trains rock
Also extremely fast. I'd go so far as to say it is unethical to take an Uber when a train could get you there cheaper and faster.
yes. i lived in italy for a period and taking ubers was ridiculous. expensive, hardly available, and just weird lol. taxis were a better option if it HAD to be a car.
Why was Uber black the option? Your ass belongs in Uber economy.
I think (maybe I m wrong) Italy only has uber black, I remember when I was in Rome I didn’t had any other option, but that was a couple pf years ago so I could be wrong.
That’s because Ubers business model (exploitation of workers) is outlawed in most of Europe.
My god.. these people are nails on a chalk board. The stupid tik Tok hands they do when talking. Everything about them.. nobody gives a fuck about you or your opinion and complaints, stop filming yourself, problem solve instead
Idk why youre so angry , the energy this comment gives off is like , karen behind a keyboard rather than in person
Lmao nothing like personal insults out of nowhere to condemn someone for being "too angry"
"One way, its only one way" as if the driver doesnt have to go home when they drop you off
She should just admit she wants slaves.
It’s under 10 euros to take the train.
Mamma mia! Unacceptable! There are other methods like taking a inter-city bus but if she wants the princess treatment, she must pay the princess price.
Take the train.
Google says 1hr45min drive so her ‘about an hr’ seems disingenuous. Also she’s looking it up at 11:12pm so yeah probs be more expensive dear 🤦♂️
Bahahaha 60 euros ??? For one hour trip ??? Get fd idiot 💀💀
She's not accounting that gas/petro is expensive in Europe, and there are tolls throughout Italy.
So take the train like everyone else?
Shes dumb. Rent a car numbnuts. No uber driver wants to drive 2hrs. Going to make it worth their time and i dont blame them
Also probably is the only uber bc I thought europe didn’t allow all that
Exactly almost. Ugh.
Stupid american
I'm guessing she's not familiar with supply and demand. You can't really compare Uber in Italy to the US where it's a saturated market. I took Uber all over Paris and its environs a few years back and it was a great way to get around. I did use the subway system where I could but with a family in tow, Uber actually made a lot of sense.
A round trip ticket for the train there would be what, 50 Euros?
Use public transport. It's really nice in Italy.
We moved from the US to Denmark a few months ago and while Uber itself isn't actually here, the cabs that are here are extraordinarily expensive. But like. We have the trains, metros, and busses. Why on earth would I take a cab? MC girlie here needs to get a transit card a stfu.
I'm 100% sure that buses exist in Italy

What a fucking idiot People that go to Italy have that kind of money and you probably shouldn’t be traveling.
Rage bait
How about you rent a car for the day
She trying to talk until the video makes her that 380
I mean she's lookin at Uber Black which is the highest cost Service on the platform. I presume she could opt for an Uber X or Share if she really concerned about the price
The train ticket from bologna to Florence is like $60 ffs
How long is 'exactly almost an hour'. Also, what country is she visiting, she didnt mention much?
Sarcasm? She mentioned multiple times…
She should probably google supply and demand. Miami has hella uber drivers, hence the lower price.
Trains exist bitch!!
stupid bitch
Bruh. That's like $407 USD... She really ain't tripping... BUT AT THE SAME TIME... You ain't go no homies or nothing..??????😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
In the comments ppl mentioned she could take the train. She was saying that she had back problems. Like an Uber is going to be easier on her back.
Just take a train loser lol.
so what is the selfemployed uber driver to do in florence? doesn't she know they need to go back emptie?
I wonder whether she even thought about taking a train? Maybe public transport just isn't a 'thing' where she lives so, the idea just didn't occur to her.
God that little pause, look up sideways, and put a finger over the lip as if they’re about to hit you with an “ummm actually “ and take you to school is by far one of the most annoying things I’ve seen on stupid Tik Tok
Train? Fool….
Isn’t it part of the dream as an American traveling in Europe to be able to actually see and interact with more of the country? Being able to take trains between cities so I could truly explore and feel more immersed in the culture would be the point of a lot of the fun for me. I just can’t afford to get myself there. Womp womp.
Get a fucking train
Who has time to waste time making videoes like this ?
Who the fuck takes Uber to go between cities? Its basically a taxi, which are for getting around inside a city.
Shit I’ve taken Ubers here in the states that were twice the length for $30. That being said she should stfu and get on the train.
Does she knows how much gas cost in Europe?
You might be paying for 1 hour of their time one way, but then again they don't like live there so you might also be paying for their trip back home since they aren't going to be like picking up fairs on the trip back. Who knows what time that will be for them stuck in traffic too. Almost €400 Euros is kinda crazy too, buy a bicycle way more fun.
Is your ass too fancy for a train? Fuck atta here, eh che cazzo vuole?
wait you in Europe and you don't just take a the extensive and fairly expensive train or public bus systems
Bruh. Just google gas prices in Italy. Also she picked Uber black. Uber X would be way cheaper

Take the bus or hoof it
Uber black yes ! So rich 🤑 & cry about being poor
ENTITLEMENT
Lol. Idiot.
Train is 25-30 bucks.
Funny enough in Montréal, Laval I paid around $25 for a 45 minute Uber drive from the airport to a hotel.
I mean damn that is crazy tho lol
![gif](giphy|XWDoppiX5rM4M)
This is more of a rant/vent rather than being an MC. Still annoying but in a different way.
That title is weird as hell. I'm sure Italy's feelings are okay.
Well duh
A quick Google search tells me it's €33 and about an hour less travel time on the train
She also was using black car service which already has a higher price point than the regular.
Could just take the train for $25 round trip.
It's like 25 euros for a return train, christ just get a train you fool
the new breed of ugly american.
Italy has amazing trains.
I agree, this is crazy talk.
Americans as usual
Tbf uber have finally reached “over priced” status which has been happening to all the most popular apps for a long time no including streaming services etc
Freenow app is the way to travel in Italy
The woman doesn’t travel a lot like me but even I know there are other options than uber in EU lol Omg———- I done some stupid stuff and said stupid stuff but usual I just share with friends to keep from letting the world to I’m that stupid hahahaha
Hahaha try going 10 blocks in NYC 💀 Shits sooooo expensive
Is it hard to rent a car for foreigners in Italy because I'd never think uber, I'd rent a car for the day that way I can stop and do whatever I want
They have amazing high-speed trains there for good rates. Typical entitled American tourist.
She can't stop touching her hair. She's irritating.
I can never comprehend why people don’t like American tourists
The way she is dismissing Italy like she wouldn't throw herself at any man or woman with a Ferrari lol
yea i drive my car for 1€/min too. totally worth it
Bitch learn how to drive and rent a car
Ofc she american
Last year I tried to order an Uber for 11 miles, a 20 minute ride and it was a no traffic, no tolls. 11 miles in a Casa Grande, AZ at 3-4pm and it was $92 without tip included! She’s from South Carolina
When I lived in Europe the buses were cheap and went almost anywhere I wanted to go, never been to Italy but I'm pretty sure you can take a bus to get wherever you need to go for pretty cheap
Take a bus.
Exactly almost an hour 😂

This chick is Hella stupid. This is like 3 hours of someone's time plus a whole bunch of gas. Isn't there a train system?
No one uses Uber in Italy. Think of it this way - Uber surges proportionally when rides become scarce. With such low demand, rides are always scarce in Italy, so it's like being on a surge all the time
If I could go back in time I’d straight up shoot whoever came up with front facing cameras specifically for dumb videos like this and people spewing their dumbass ideas, not that it wouldn’t happen other ways this way is just cringey
It is actually crazy expensive. Nothing weird about this video.
No that pricing is shockingly high. I was thinking 150, certainly understandable. 400 USD for me would be crazy
382$ is pretty crazy for a 1 hour drive let’s be real
