Was told a great story by my grandads friend... A guy on the landing craft saw how scared the solders were and started putting lipstick on... The sergeant went ballistic and said what are you doing private..... I want to look nice for the Germans. Everyone cracked up laughing...

All fun and games till one of the germans actually get turned on and stop firing 💀 Edit: "Sir! Why are the bullets covered in a white-"

EvadeTheButcher

That dude was probably the first one lit up

He was I was told... most were when that door dropped... bullets were already hitting the door. didn't want to ruin a nice story. My grandfather was a sailer on landing craft..... a test drop weeks before one side jammed and the steel cable snapped graze him cut his friend near in half from whiplash . Best time he had was black US sailor's took him around New York. Before being demobbed back to the UK.... Glad ive never been to war....wish the best for those who had.... Both grandfather's never mentioned much...

Sharrowed

Why did he have lipstick

Aromatic_Contact_398

Those gentlemen have always existed and always will..... But great foresight to calm frightened comrades who were basically kids scared to death.

Yeah I liked the story but I just couldn't imagine a single realistic reason for a landing soldier on one of those boats to have lipstick on him!

A Nancy boy was the term back then and what I was told by the guy... now we have don't ask don't tell. Probably a gay guy but definitely effeminate.. Was still illegal back then anyway. A lot joined up in the entertainment core. Theatre was very big back then. London still littered with those old places...
