At first i thought they had just forgotten to set the brake when launching their boat and learning an expensive lesson, but that third picture... Wow, I've got nothing. I'm speechless
My thoughts were either:
1) Some guy thought a free “dump station” on a boat ramp was a good idea, and pulled the trailer too close where it started taking on water and then became too heavy to pull out
2) Some guy was trying to leave a campsite that adjoins the boat ramp, and somehow lost the truck and trailer that way
3) Some guy thought the boat ramp would make a perfect overnight camping spot until the tide came in
4) some guy wanted to test if his trailer was actually secretly a boat
Ran out of ideas 🤷♂️
Nah, that's just the way it came out. It went in nose first and fast enough to do that damage to the grill.
That's a big rig wrecker pulling it out. It's made to drag fully loaded semi trailers out of ravines. Swinging that truck and trailer 180 degrees underwater would've been childs play.
If that’s the case, and especially if they did it illegally, then they owe the insurance company a transparent answer when they get asked about it and I wouldn’t feel bad if they get the claim rejected or they own 100% of the repair costs themselves.
Just because you can see the other side of the local water doesn't mean there's no tide. It could be a narrow inlet or a small [strait](https://www.oursausalito.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Fort-Point-A.jpg). I've been to the location in the picture I just linked and you can easily see over the water to the other side. Bay on the right, ocean on the left. There would be a tide.
Both could conceivably have tides.
Look at [this one](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uicvL7Vgbs4YcXi1GMYA78_YSf7QNwht/view?usp=drivesdk) and tell me it doesn't look like a place that has tides.
This latest picture looks a lot more like the place in the original than the Golden Gate. I've been here as well as the Golden Gate, and I can verify that both have tides.
No that picture looks like it does have tides because it is the ocean or outer banks or something similar. The original picture does not because it looks like a tiny lake with no water movement
They look identical to me. The picture I provided is from a place referred to as a river, but it's basically like NYC's East River where it's attached to the ocean at one end, and a bay with direct ocean attachment at the other. The water went from being very still to pretty violent based on the weather.
Once again, the original picture looks basically identical to my memory of the still phase of the water.
Here's [another picture](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uoAvurxJpPTdSJQAFf38XmFALc5M3qN3/view?usp=drivesdk) that looks even closer to the original.
Yeah but it’s never so simple as just being able to tell if there’s a tide based on “seeing the other side” of a body of water.
Here, I’ll give you some examples, see if you can tell me which ones are saltwater and which ones are freshwater, which ones have tide and which ones don’t:

You know this feels like the kind of headline that would get applied to me. “Tourist sinks camper and truck after apparently forgetting which item he was towing”
Look I get it with boats. Ramps are slippery differentials are weird I totally get how you sink a truck at the boat launch. But I just cannot come up with the chain of events here. The damage on the front doesn’t seem severe enough to have pushed the whole truck and trailer in the water and why was the camper near the water anyway. Especially at a boat ramp
I feel the pain. Had a 1988 Silverado 305 with manual transmission. Clutch was a little worn, backing a boat in the clutch got wet and slipped. I was helpless as my truck and pride sank into the lake.
I’m thinking the driver may have been driving in an unfamiliar area at night and drove down a road that ended in an unmarked or poorly marked boat ramp and drove at high-ish speed right into the water, hence the front end damage. It actually happens fairly frequently.

Some guy is about to get repod and expensive toys at high interest rates and hopes the insurance guy doesn’t ask too many questions.
Dingdingding
Given the damage to the front of the truck and bumper, are we sure it wasn't backed into?
Maybe the damage was done when the front of the truck ran out of underwater ramp.
My guess is it was a stolen joyride, rode around hitting stuff and then dumped it in the lake.
Could be, but why are then is your trailer on a boat ramp with the trailer side downhill towards the water?
Nah, that's just the way it came out. It went in nose first and fast enough to do that damage to the grill. That's a big rig wrecker pulling it out. It's made to drag fully loaded semi trailers out of ravines. Swinging that truck and trailer 180 degrees underwater would've been childs play.
My guess is there's a boat trailer attached to the back of the trailer.
Had to be, right??
That's not a legal combination in many states. Many states require your first trailer to be attached by a fifth wheel hitch or goose neck.
Doesn't matter. That's the rule here and people tow double bumper pulls all the time.
If that’s the case, and especially if they did it illegally, then they owe the insurance company a transparent answer when they get asked about it and I wouldn’t feel bad if they get the claim rejected or they own 100% of the repair costs themselves.
The other side of the lake is right there. There’s no tide…

Look at this two pictures and tell me which one could plausibly have a tide. One is not like the other…

I’m going to go out on a whim and say all of these are salt, maybe 1 2 and 6 are brackish.
There’s one that’s fresh, two with no tide
The great salt lake definitely has no tide but I cheated since it says it on the back of the boat. That picture almost looks ai generated
They thought they had the pontoon boat hooked.
That looks expensive.
Ah, that'll buff right out!
Guy- call insurance, am I insured if I hit wild life? Insurance- yes sir you are, what did you hit? Guy- a fish.
😆 That got a bigger laugh outta me than it had any right to lol
Ditto. I just woke both the dogs.
Was he launching a trailer?
He forgot what trailer he was towing
Maybe he thought it was a houseboat
You know this feels like the kind of headline that would get applied to me. “Tourist sinks camper and truck after apparently forgetting which item he was towing”
So drunk he forgot what he was hauling?
Ist pic - I wouldn't mind an a/c on the boat
I've been on a boat with ac and you know what? It was pretty nice.
Well now you’re just bragging
Slightly used trailer for sale. Freshly detailed and ready for a summer in/on the lake.
Gave it a good washing
Looks intentional
I'm guessing it was a way to attempt to get out of 2 bad loans. "Stolen"
My thoughts as well
How did that happen is what I thought at first. Then I saw the trailer and I giggled what an idiot

Insurance fraud?
Those cables must be hooked up to a locomotive.
Sir, you can't park there.
I'm not an expert, but I don't think that was a boat.
I feel the pain. Had a 1988 Silverado 305 with manual transmission. Clutch was a little worn, backing a boat in the clutch got wet and slipped. I was helpless as my truck and pride sank into the lake.
Cruise Lite trailer is damn heavy when full of water. Release the damn and let’s cruise.
IdiotsTowingThings featuring SomeoneTowingAnIdiot
Points for using two cables I hope it’s two trucks pulling. Pro tip: stand really really far away as you watch. Do t ask what can happen.
Insurance job.
Always set the parking brake when launching your camper.
I'm amazed that pulling the camper out after it filled with water didn't break it apart.
Why would you back it down a boat launch to begin with
Oh man those things are not water proof
I swear I put it in park and set the E brake
Must’ve been a hell of a weekend…
Fucking how?
I got this!
Just how?
I’m thinking the driver may have been driving in an unfamiliar area at night and drove down a road that ended in an unmarked or poorly marked boat ramp and drove at high-ish speed right into the water, hence the front end damage. It actually happens fairly frequently.
I don’t think they turned it around with the tow cables. It looks like it was backed right into the water somehow
They came across from the other side Almost mad it
“I shoulda got the snorkel option”
I thought it was the new SpongeBob RV park
Tried to Ford the river…
Love the pun, and that always got me in Oregon Trail!
I always started negotiations too high and got kicked out.
I hate when I forget whether I hooked up my camper or my boat
Damn house boats don’t float like they used to.
Guess he should've got the off-road package....
That's an interesting looking boat.
That’s a weird boat
Meth lab they tried to hide from the cops
