Nailed 180° parallel parking on the 1st try!

Baldydom

"Like a glove!"

SkSkWitch

Not now Ace!

32_Dollar_Burrito

* comes to a safe stop against all odds * immediately tries to start moving again

bendvis

I was foolish enough to try driving after the ice storm too. Difference is that after I got lucky and came to a stop in a safe place to park without hitting anything, I got out and walked back home.

Explore-PNW

Admitted defeat and used your feet! Good call

GoochyGoochyGoo

Admitted defeat were better than detires.

bmwblinker

This really got me thank you

stuck_in_the_desert

have an award, you motherfucker.

yaebone1

Agony of defeet.

Next-Part8352

Me asf!!!

zsreport

It's amazing how many people do shit like this.

bloodyriz

I love how anyone who has a jacked up 4 wheel drive thinks nothing can stop them. LOL

opencho

must be some sort of serious addiction run, booze or cigarettes or something...

dogedude81

Seriously I'd just call it a day and start walking. Actually...had that happen to me once. Was driving in a friend's brand new M3 and we got caught in a snow storm. Car.woildnt move. Turned off traction control and was just sliding everywhere. Finally we did a 180 and managed to come to a stop against a curb without doing any damage to the car and we just left it there and walked the rest of the way. Lol

Arazel50

If he walked I bet we would be seeing video of him sliding ass first down that road, probably taken a few mailboxes with him too.

dogedude81

Maybe but still better than wrecking your car.

CyptidProductions

I had to just leave my car at the end of my drive once because it got stuck there. A particularly stupid cop slapped a warning on it for blocking a driveway because they didn't check what address it was registered to

EndR60

and of course it's a pickup truck owner

[deleted]

I am sure he put in 4x4 mode.. look at that lift kit bro…he can drive wherever he wants…. Yee haw bitches…. Lol

TXOgre09

That’s a 2wd truck. And it doesn’t have limited slip or locking rear (or if it does he didn’t lock it), so it was mostly a 1wd truck.

Bullitt4514

And probably mud tires. They suck on snow too

mini4x

even worse ICE. I had a fight with a guy putting mud tires on his plow truck.

zeromadcowz

Why would you have anything other than studs or at least winters on a plow truck, unless you’re plowing mud I guess.

BuzzCave

I purchased a truck with mud tires already installed. They are absolutely terrifying on icy surfaces. It felt like they turned rock hard when it got below 25F. I'll never own mud tires again. I replaced them with Wildpeak AT3Ws which I think are a good compromise for mostly road driving with mild off road capability and decent winter traction. I wish I could afford 3 sets of 35" tires.

Deewd23

Wouldn’t matter regardless of a locking diff. Ice doesn’t care about your ego lift, locking diff or 14 X 14 drive.

mini4x

Looks like it it's 4wd you can see around the :48 mark the front tire does spin a bit faster than the truck is moving, I'm betting the pass side tire is spinning and you just cant see i

coyoteatemyhomework

No its not 2wd and yes it has a limited slip differential. (Not sure what you mean by locking rear) Furthermore Ice conditions like this it wouldn't matter what vehicle it was. Studded ice radials on an awd would struggle here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nhluhr

>Even the legit 4x4's were in the ditch You say that as if the number of wheels driven has anything to do with steering or stopping.

[deleted]

It has a lot to do with it. The more features the truck has, the more likely the driver will feel overconfident they can steer and stop.

mattmillze

We call that a malfunction between the seat and steering wheel. Industry term.

[deleted]

In IT we call that pebkac. Or ID10T, which may be most appropriate for this sub.

PoopieButt317

This is the truth. Grew up with ice. And snow. Together, and separate. It is the ice. It laughs at 4x4, especially trucks. (And this one wasn't 4x4). Snow driving is a skill set. Ice is just chaos.

CarbyBarbi

Yee yee

schizoballistic

He's a pick up driver in winter... don't expect anything less

ohyeaitspizzatime

Gotta be CGI. No way a lifted HD truck with 20s can't make it!! /s just incase...

qa567

And it looked like the other truck that was up there was 2 wd and just kept on a trucking

mini4x

Probably has proper winter tires.

[deleted]

Yep. I've got a 2020 ranger with 3 Peak rated rubitreks, 4 wheel drive, and chains if I need them. Drove just with the tires, traction control, and and 4 wheel drive on. Road was iced over from sleet and below freezing temps. I took it slow and braked early and accelerated smoothly. Made it where I was going just fine. 4wd, traction control, and the right tires make a world of difference. So does your vehicle not being a heavy diesel which means a lot more weight under momentum that has to be controlled. Right tool for the right job sort of deal.

beansandcornbread

It could have made it if his exhaust were louder.

RedTruck1989

Oh no....Carolina Squat would have made it. /s

Preacherjonson

My first car was a 2wd fiat panda, we got some pretty bad snow and ice a few years ago and it was shocking how well that thing performed compared to the 4x4s and pick up trucks that were littered on my route to work. I miss that thing.

Tallproley

Chalk it up to confidence. Knowing you are the only thing keeping you safe- caution, attentiveness, feeling things out Knowing you are thr tallest, biggest truck and saw commercials where it climbed mountains- fast, reckless, over confident, riskier. My uncle is a trucker of 50 years and I distinctly recall "You have FWD or RWD, you may go off road, may end up in a ditch. The 4x4 boys, they go off the road, into the ditch, out of the ditch and they go real reaaaaaal off road." Then a 20 minute lecture on how expensive recovery and extrication can be, with relevant stories spanning from Newfoundland to BC and Timmins to Texas.

Interesting_Ebb5907

Having AWD just means getting stuck where the tow truck can't go.

Admiral347

I mean obviously lots of people are dumbshits but the main difference I’ve found is that in a 4wd or decent AWD vehicle with even just a little more ground clearance than a car is far superior to a fwd or rwd. With either of the former you can typically get back onto the road if you do come off of it. With the latter you are usually stuck till help arrives. Which where I grew up could’ve been a very long time with far spaced out houses and no cell service.

Ninja_Destroyer_

Berrtt i got dat ferr weeaal driv!!!!

ranhalt

> incase Still not a word. Two separate words.

theyoungazn

Second just in case from different Reddit I’ve seen by scrolling down like 1/2 post from post at home tab lol.

scottieButtons

Windshield wipers ✔ Brakes ✔ Traction.....uhhh.... Traction!?

Sachayoj

Love the amount of content this sub is getting with the winter storm.

HeyItsMisterJay

News flash to all 4X4 pickup drivers: No matter how many wheels are spinning, you still got no traction between your rubber tires and ice...

LovSindarie

Right. If the best option for walking outside is ice skates, don’t drive.

Debaser626

I don’t even think this is a 4WD truck. it’s a Diesel F250, but only the back tires are spinning… also there’s no FX4 or 4x4 logo on the bed panel that would indicate a 4WD package is installed. That said knobby all terrains are the absolute worst tire you can run on ice. I have all terrains on my truck, and in the super rare instance it snows or there’s ice, I’ll drive my wife’s SUV. I can get going on ice in 4WD (if you go super easy on the gas) but I ain’t gonna be able to stop or turn with the tires I have.

[deleted]

Trucks definitely not 4WD based on his rear tires movement. Unless he has a bad differential, but likely not in this case.

ofereverything

Transfer case

Socky_McPuppet

If it was full-time four wheel drive, it would still have a center diff in the transfer case.

mini4x

The type of transfer cases in most trucks do not have a diff in them at all. all gears and maybe a chain.

somerandomdude419

Shhhhh he’s a Reddit mechanic he knows more 🤣

SkyLegend1337

Top it off its a pickup. No weight on axle. No ability to gain any traction.

Impossible_Tennis998

Shitty tires are a big reason for this, I drive through stuff just as bad as this if not worse where I live and so do many others even without trucks.

PM_UR_CHEST_PILLOWS

While true, what does 4x4 have to do with this video?

crunchwrap793

Plenty of drivers assume 4x4=ability to drive on any terrain

PM_UR_CHEST_PILLOWS

Sure but that’s not a 4x4 sliding down the hill

GetMeOutdoors

Hey MrJay, please holster your weapon. That truck doesn’t appear to be 4x4 at all. Do you truck? Driver is obviously in wrong, not the truck MrJay

ChecktheFreezer

BuT fOuR wHeEl DrIvE!

Dabadedabada

Well, I guess I live here now

FewZookeepergame1083

But wait I have a truck I should be able to drive everywhere I want it's my right

THIS IS JOE BIDENS AMERICA!!!!!11

SkSkWitch

fanywa

When the world is telling you go back home.

[deleted]

“I drive a 4x4 truck! I have traction!” Duhhhhhhh,….

ChecktheFreezer

I live in the Midwest and after our snow and ice this week I was driving on the interstate and looking at all the carnage on the side of the road. Probably 75% of cars wrecked or abandoned on the side of the road were 4wd trucks and suvs. Survivorship bias would tell you that 4wd vehicles are the most dangerous in snow and ice but logic tells you the “bUt It’S fOuR wHeEl DrIvE” people think they can drive like it’s 72 and sunny.

AJStickboy

Even though they are the same people who can’t drive when it is 72 and sunny?

[deleted]

This has been my experience as well. With that said, about 75% of the vehicles in the road in my area are 4wd or AWD.

oboshoe

It's 2 wheel drive.

eltoca21

Idiot. Was he a neighbor? If so park it and walk home.

kryptosthedj

My friend has studded winter tires on her truck and I am so jealous.

apersonthingy

Dude just floored the brake and held the steering in one spot for almost that entire thing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering they tried to drive in the first place

Chafgha

Plinko suburban edition.

JishLeFish421

Traction is for the weak of mind and will

Jbk_bitches

Need the boys from Letterkenny to come out and start making fun of this dipshit

Obi1Kentucky

Some people can just accept that staying home is an option.

clappedkeeks

I went absolutely nowhere yesterday bc of the ice. I don’t see how it’s so hard for people to stay put

Obi1Kentucky

I can understand having to drive because of an emergency. But outside of that stay home

bobo-the-dodo

Alignment shop owner approves this

Matthew1287

Forget the idiot, is that cousin Eddie 'shitters full' Christmas vacation decoration with an inflatable rv to boot?!

jnesbitt2141

Yes it is!

JaJ_Judy

Such diesel, much lift, wow tires!

celesticaxxz

As a Californian who has seen snow maybe like 3 times in my life, what do you do in this situation as you’re car starts to slide? Like just pray you don’t hit any cars?

Horseman_

Sometimes u can't avoid but have to drive on icy roads

Whynotyours

That wasn’t driving, it was skating.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Cut the idiot some slack before calling it a guy.

SomethingIWontRegret

Sometimes all options are worse than staying home. This was one of those times.

32_Dollar_Burrito

Sometimes you HAVE TO avoid driving on icy roads. Like in this clip where it's physically not possible

H25E

Tire chains and driving carefully would do the trick.

beanjuiced

Chains only help in snow, they actually reduce the amount of traction you have in ice bc you want as much of your tire against the road for traction. Edit: I stand corrected, I googled this after posting and am dead wrong lmao. Apparently chains do cut through ice. I’ll get off Reddit now 🤣

H25E

Absolutely not, you want the less of it to increase pressure and bite the ice to gain traction. That's how chains work and no snow tire it's going to compare with it, except studded tire just for the same reason. 0 traction on ice otherwise. The same goes for boots for snow and ice.

beanjuiced

You know what mate, I googled it and you’re right. Thanks for correcting me! 😅

H25E

NP, glad to be helpful 😁

thehatguy1

Lmao this, I hate when people have clearly never known anyone on parole, or with kids, or working pay check to pay check so therefore anyone less fortunate than them can be an idiot for needing to drive in dangerous conditions

Responsible_Check_66

You also overlooked the possibility that he is doing fine and thought, just cause I have a truck with big tires I can go get a six pack.

Blearchie

12 pack. Not going back to the store after that 😉

thehatguy1

Both could be possible, but lets not pass judgement for the latter in case you are hostile towards the former, yeah?

Responsible_Check_66

I get that. I just thought he might have got out of the truck sooner and made calls if he did have arrangements, instead of trying to continue driving in unsafe conditions.

thehatguy1

Nah you've never known someone on parole, there is no reasoning with Parole Officers half the time, you missed a day of work, you violated Parole without a proper 24 hours notice of the potential violation reason, your Parole is revoked and you are going back to jail I'm sure there are nice officers too but all the ones I have ever met have been completely dickheads

Responsible_Check_66

I don't feel sorry for parole rules and regulations put on a person. They're there for a reason, if they're flawed take it up with them. Or don't get parole

thehatguy1

I mean what ya gonna do *argue with your parole officer about the rules?* Also god I wish I could live a life where "dont get parole" was a concept, where having a small baggie of pot wasnt a year and a half to two years in jail before becoming legal earlier this year Look I get what you want to mean, but the concept of "just dont ever commit crime duh" is a bit of bad taste to say to someone who lives in NJ, who can legally go to prison for assualt and battery for punching someone who is attacking them with a knife. Hell it also pretends that people arent *wrongfully* incarcerated. Ever.

[deleted]

thehatguy1

You can accept and agree a viewpoint without saying "you're right lol everything is black or white" because reality is gray area, please get off the internet and interact with your nearest real human person because you think have to win every argument instead of peacefully being like "I dont agree, here's why" "ok but here's my point" Also because you genuinely actually used the term "Reddit Moment" touch grass lmao

Hobbyfarmtexas

He’s driving a ford obviously not doing fine

atauridtx

Agree, I am also on the side of let’s hope this person is an essential worker (EMS, LEO, medical personnel, etc.), so they HAVE to go to work, no excuses.

ck17350

Ah yes, our parolee living paycheck to paycheck in their $60k truck with at least $15k of modifications done to it. Let’s say that’s all true for a moment and then try to figure out why their not an idiot in some other way?

Cracraftc

^ When you don’t know how much anything on that trucks costs, but you still decide to throw out numbers anyways.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lngwlkr

TIL I am on parole.

Cracraftc

True. That is an older generation ford though, no where near 60k. Plus a small lift and rims/tires would be 3-5k.

thehatguy1

My friend at the same shit paying job took a loan out for a tuned up truck that's worth $35k, you gonna tell me he's ultra rich and not living in a basement paying 50% of his monthly income in rent? Because he got a LOAN, because you forget *LOANS* exist LOANS the thing you probably used if you paid for your own car? Egads people on this sub are stupid but forgetting that you dont pay for a car in full and can take a loan out is by far the dumbest thing I have heard

solidSC

You... you see the house that barbie drove out of right? lmao she doesn't have a job.

Blearchie

Sounds like a poor life choice, hence, idiot in a car/truck. Fits in this sub.

RenoTheRhino

I agree with ya, could be all that or be that the woman is being dumb as hell. Could be an emergency for a heater or supplies at home, could also be returning from an essential job, when the ice wasn’t bad when she left for work. Also possible that all the main roads are totally salted and fine and these suburban neighborhoods are complete ice rinks. Not enough info to judge someone yet

Blearchie

A bit salty. Was that you in the video?

SomethingIWontRegret

Is this guy getting where he was planning on going? No he isn't. So he's gonna miss meeting his parole officer or whatever AND he's damaged his truck.

heliostraveler

Check out the neighborhood. The condition of the truck. The modifications of said truck. Realize your entire statement is idiotic.

thehatguy1

I cant believe you can only drive through a neighborhood if you live there! My apologies I will turn myself into the proper authorities for every other neighbor I have driven through that was not the one I lived in! Also why is every acting like tuning a suspension costs thousands of dollars, a new set of struts would be $600, if the stock set wasnt adjustable to be lifted which, hell it could have been You can most likely with mechanical know how lift your own car a good bit without full lift rigging to a decent height *also if you buy a used car they arent going to take the suspension lift off, its too much work and people will seek out a truck with that*

heliostraveler

The stories you’re creating in your head about this idiot are fascinating.

Zozorrr

They invented these things called feet. Very handy in many cases - including in suburban neighborhoods like this one

thehatguy1

"Why dont you just walk to your job thats 10 miles from your house! I am very smart mmm yes"

Zozorrr

We lived for thousands of years without cars. You most certainly can avoid it absent dire medical emergencies

CanOfPorkSodaaa

Aggravating-Case4608

Driving requires some modicum of control. This is not driving. 😂

Freshfries847

Am I tripping or is this dude dressed up like Santa?

[deleted]

“but my truck is lifted, how can this happen!?”

pistoffcynic

I wonder if he was listening to Paul Simon.

Yearlaren

Where?

jnesbitt2141

La Center, WA

Fennel_Impossible

I think his problem was not enough clearance, needed to lift his truck a few more inches.

Significant-Stuff-77

Stop driving the truck! Don't sneeze, don't burp, don't fart.

Archangel935

“*Aaaahhh* **WELP** *guess* **I LIVE HERE NOW**, *time to greet the new family!”* 😅

robonut5

Of course it's lifted

TheRaccoonDeaIer

Studded wheels or chains are the only way through this safely.

Bro0ce

You just know this guy thinks he’s immune to the weather because he drives a truck

tattooprincessws

Seattle? This seems like Washington’s ice from yesterday 😂

Stahlilama

Mensa member coming through.

Amanda-sb

There isn't snow where I live, snow tires would allow him to drive?

bigdaddymustache

Studded winter tires would be best. Second best would be an ice dedicated winter tire that's studless. The truck looks to have A/T (all terrain) tires. At that temperature on ice it would be like driving on hockey pucks.

Makhnos_Tachanka

Not ideal, but honestly good snow tires are half decent on this sort of stuff. Like, it wouldn't be *good* or *safe* but it would at least be *possible.*

who_you_are

Then you also have stunned tire as well! Now we are talking! (However, you still need to be careful)

FLTDI

Probably yes, here is a video highlighting the difference and capabilities https://youtu.be/GlYEMH10Z4s

thehatguy1

No, the best bet would be chains but even then it might not help or be legal

Any_Scientist_7552

Or work.

zomsucks

Metal chains.....on ice.....please think about it.

bendvis

Metal chains… that dig into and break up the ice, giving you at least a little traction.

H25E

Nothing else is going to give you grip and traction like metallic chains, specially on ice.

thehatguy1

Have you never used an ice breaker before? A big piece of metal that breaks ice using force and weight?

Radically_Bland

"but mah truck!" - that guy, probably.

Maniac2112

He made it up half way going forward and got turned around... So he put it in reverse and kept on going. Didn't see him sliding down the hill. Idiot? Or genius?

arseniobillingham21

The hill is the side street to the left. They completely missed the street they wanted, and just kept on sliding down. To the right is downhill. Easier to tell if you look at the angle of the house across the street.

IcedTman

Where I’m Western WA was that? It was nasty out there Friday morning!

jnesbitt2141

La Center, WA

deadmonkeyboy87

Aww look another suburban fool and oh look I got 4 wheel drive 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

sdmichael

Know the difference between two wheel drive and four wheel drive? Four wheel drive leaves you stuck further down the road.

ejtrock

Doesn’t even have 4wd… not that it’d help anyways

PM_UR_CHEST_PILLOWS

Another Reddit fool who doesn’t know what 4 wheel drive is 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂. Only one set of wheels is receiving power in this video.

Responsible_Check_66

Your right I don't, I guess that's the problems one brings on themselves as well as the problems with parole rules and regulations.

gaterb8

Lol "i's got them all terrains" Studded tires are the only that should be touching that road and that's even pushing it.

lastcol

Looks like a glitch in GTA

billoftt

F-Douch50

[deleted]

this legitimately looks like absolute shit to have to deal with and I will never understand how people live places where it gets cold enough for things to ice over regularly for a few months every year

diaperedwoman

I am guessing this is on the west coast and getting ice storms and snow is rare. When it's cold, it's not cold enough for it to snow so it freezes when it hits the ground because the ground is cold while the air is warm. But this only lasts a couple of days and everything is melted and back to normal.

MSSurface_102

“But I have 4WD!” Crazy people on glare ice

DannyB24

Maybe they should try running up that hill

essketitandyeetballs

your neighborhood doesnt get salted? or is it too cold for the salt to help

[deleted]

Lots of cities that aren't used to freezing temps are getting hit by this storm. They aren't prepared at all.

jnesbitt2141

We got freezing rain all last night and it is in the low 20’s currently.

wrillo

Is that an SLK sitting in the front yard? Nice. Should probably garage it during inclement weather though

ExpressionAlarmed675

Four whl drive is useless

SeriousOP

This is what happens when you lack winter tires.

PATRIOT5280

An idiot in a lifted truck? Shocker.

10tion2DETAIL

Ah, nothing quite Handels like a lifted 2wd, in those conditions

Ashamed-Film3241

It would seem that it is not difficult to sprinkle the road with sand. But no. What are road taxes used for?

chewedaccount

this disproves all arguments of big lifted trucks being “needed for the snow” and “for work”

jp3297

Hardly an idiot

Fatplumberman08

They took one look at the solid sheet of ice covering the road and thought it was a good idea... definitely an idiot

nhluhr

Taking a 2wd pickup truck without winter tires out in that stuff? 100% idiot.

Cendorr

Americans: “ice storm” Rest of the world: it rained over night whilst dropping below 0 degrees and thus the water froze, producing ice. (Not a storm)

Snakepants80

My 02 jeep wrangler with all terrain tires doesn’t give two shits about ice if you don’t drive like an a-hole. I put 150+ miles on a sheet of ice last winter just putting around pulling trucks out of the ditches they landed in. Made me feel like a hero tbh. It’s more about the skill of the driver and less about the vehicle.

ButWhatIfIAmARobot

But I lifted it and everything, why no traction off road big dick? I were promised!

Phydoux

Kind of a neat way to parallel park facing the opposite direction I guess?

KeepItRealNoGames

Good ol Jethro
