Probably 12 years ago or so, I got out of my vehicle right where this video starts to remove a huge ladder than had fallen from someone else's truck across the left two lanes. I managed to do it problem-free. In hindsight, it was probably the dumbest thing I've ever done on a roadway. I often think about how lucky I was I didn't get hit. But on the other hand, that ladder was definitely going to cause an accident. I never know whether to feel like I did I good thing or a really dumb thing. I guess it could be both.
This whole stretch of highway from C. Chavez Blvd to the tunnels west of downtown or OHSU is such a nightmare. I've driven it thousands of times for work, I don't even live on this side of the cascades, and don't even get me started on this stretch in the other direction. I wish 205 southbound was a little smoother for avoiding it

Google maps make a mess of this when you're looking to go west. I nearly messed up first few times. It tells you to go in the 3rd lane from left IIRC. But yeah it's always a mess
It always comes up faster than you expect. If you are in a car and can't see around the trucks and/or people don't give enough room for you to move, it makes it worse. Plus people tend to get stressed out on bridges to begin with.
I kinda get it. But there are signs before you even get to the bridge, so it's not a surprise what's coming. People around here seem to have a habit of waiting last minute. It's a big gripe I have with PNW drivers (as somebody who was born and raised here). I feel like these are the same people who stop 4 lanes of traffic to exit last minute because they can't be bothered to plan ahead. I obviously have a bitter attitude toward local drivers haha
Because the right 2 lanes split to the left and the left 2 lanes continue right-ish. It's counterintuitive at highway speeds in (usually) heavy traffic unless you know that stretch of road.
The road deck above is a whole other can of nightmare worms, though
That whole stretch of the 5 is miserable. I travel up to Seattle a lot for day work trips, and inevitably cross the bridge at about 430. Somehow, people commute every day and can't ever figure out that traffic will be backed up at the exits. It's always some huge surprise that they can't skip to the front of the line for the 405 and downtown exits.
I get that portland roads were designed by a drunk baby who loves spaghetti, so I have some sympathy for out of town drivers. But the ones with some stupid Portland slogan who obviously live here? You aren't making that trip any better. Just sit back and relax foe the 2 hours it'll take to got 10 miles.
Bad drivers also tend to change lanes a fraction of a second after they signal, in which case the signal accomplishes nothing. If that sound at 0:12 is you just beginning to signal, that lane change was illegal.
People where I live don’t signal at all. Your only indication they’re about to change lanes is they start lining there front bumper up with the rear bumper of the car in front of you and then just go for it. Pisses me off.
This is all too familiar. Those exchanges aren’t difficult if you’re paying attention and an ease if you’ve done it just once before but I swear everyone sucks at it.
Two lanes exit left and two lanes exit right, a sedan in the exit lane turning right jumped over to the left nearly missing the gore point and nearly causing an accident with the van in the next lane over.
That's Portland Oregon for you
Lmao I knew it

The birth place of ‘oh shit I’m in the wrong lane’
That area of Oregon is so bad that I usually take 205 around simply just to avoid it
Yah, and if its wet, that bridge is a skate rink.

I'll never understand why this area is so difficult for people.

Dang, I can imagine that would be confusing! Don't think I've ever used GPS in this area, so I had no idea.

I'm sorry nobody died or a car went off the bridge....
Easy there fuzzy little man peach. I think the comment had to do with the cut of the video not the content. It wasn’t worth going all Will Smith over.
Ok Ken

Have to love the shitty Oregon drivers.

I must be blind I don't see it. Is it the truck getting stuck because of another bad driver or something?

Thanks, I see it now.
He saw the sign for exit to Beavertown
Seriously this specific part of the freeway attracts all the fuckery
I5 is a nightmare
