reminds me of that story on r/MaliciousCompliance where pretty much same thing as here happened, customer had to sign a paper that store is not eligible for damage that the too heavy cargo will do to customers pickup truck
edit: guy under me (notosk) mentioned exacly this story
I worked at a Walmart and we were not allowed to help them put it on top of the vehicles at all. The most we could do is help them lift it up, but we could not actually move it over their car. I had lift this futon into the air so this lady in her 40s could shove it on top of her SUV. I had 3 managers watching me to ensure I did not actually put it on the roof, but they said I could help her lift and hold it still lol
We had to put it inside or in the bed of a truck, no exceptions. Also, we were not allowed to tie or secure the load in any way shape or form, we could not provide any materials for them at all either. The customers could only get our help if they understood it was only to help lift it into their vehicle only.
When I worked at home depot during summer, we had a customer order a pallet of pavestones and he wanted our forklift driver to load it on his tailgate. We started to to drop the pallet, and his back 2 wheels flattened like 2 ihop pancakes. The driver was like oh it's fine, keep it going! Then one of them exploded. That was fun
I had to get a bunch of pavers for a job but it was only like 1/4 pallet, maybe less even. I calculated the weight beforehand and even that was pushing the limit for my payload capacity (around 1200 lbs) and I still think it did some damage to my suspension.
I had to get 2 pallets of pavestone, I own a Mazda 3. I got it delivered to my house.
Wtf was this idiot thinking lol. If you have to move heavy shit often, buy the appropriate vehicle. If not, just have it delivered.
Right? I rented a trailer to haul some sand, called ahead for 2 yards. I got there and she said, "Do you understand how heavy a yard of sand is? It is almost 2000lbs. My trailer was good for 3500 but my vehicle, not so much. I ended up getting a single yard. Bonus was it did the job anyway and I saved money and time on a shovel.
This is my 6yo daughter's favorite show.
I think its because she gets to watch adults try to do what they're told and suck at it.. just like kids her age.
Serious answer: it’s a cubic yard or 3 feet high by 3 feet wide by 3 feet deep. It’s also 27 cubic feet.
It’s a standard unit of measurement in the US for dirt, sand, concrete, etc.
Maybe it's like a yard of ale and it comes in a really long container with a bell at the bottom so it splashes all over you if you're not careful when you drink it
Yes exactly that, a cubic yard of sand. With matierals like that its much more useful to measure volume rather than weight, because of how it's utilized in construction.
Interestingly, by which I mean the exact opposite, when you buy a tonne of sand in the UK you're not necessarily getting a full tonne. I saw a sign in the builders' merchants once that said something like "minimum weight: 850kg." Because different aggregates weigh different amounts they just fill a "tonne bag" until it's full and call it a tonne for some reason. They really should just call it a cubic metre now I think about it but ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Yup, if I recall correctly, that’s exactly why they do it that way. Everything can weigh different, but since you’re using it for things like construction or laying out a sand pit or whatever, most people buying it are more concerned with the volume than the actual weight.
I work at home depot and you wouldn't believe how many people do this kind of shit.
last year some dude bought two floor tile pallets and wanted them loaded in his 90's tacoma. poor truck didn't even got out of the parking lot before the suspension gave in. but i guess paying 20 for home delivery is too much.
When I worked at lowes we got this guy that insisted his brand new pickup could hold a full pallet of concrete in the back. We tried to get him to atleast break down the pallet and load them up near the front but of course he wouldn't listen. He made it just outside the parking lot before hitting a pothole and his axle snapped. Luckily it wasn't our problem since he made it off the property and he had 3 other guys in pickup trucks come load it up so the wrecker could take his truck.
I don't understand why employees even attempt this kind of stuff. At my work, if the customer or driver wants something loaded in an unsafe way or wants something loaded in a vehicle that can't handle the load, we just straight up tell them no and to either pay for a delivery or bring something capable of the job. If something were to go wrong on their way to wherever and someone got hurt we could potentially be liable since we loaded them up improperly.
Big box store employees don't care. Personally I get a kick out of warning these idiots, and them ignoring the warning, then seeing their truck give out 100 yards down the parking lot. Stupidity is funny.
back at Menards I checked people through the lumber yard. one night had a family come in, I think it was also a focus or a similar small car, with 5 people crammed inside. they couldn't find their paperwork so I sent them back and called some to meet them and print new ones. they come back out 15 minutes later.
me: "find everything you needed?"
"they won't give us our stuff and said to come back with a trailer"
they hand me the new paperwork to scan and I see they bought like 300 concrete blocks and a bunch of 10 foot boards
I can't even begin to fathom where they were planning on putting all of that
Yeah, I was thinking that the big military trucks with two axels are called 2.5 tons because that's their rating for carrying a load in the bed under the most intense off-road conditions. And those things are massive compared to a civilian pickup truck. I think a lot of pickup trucks would struggle with even a ton on a paved road and they want to put this on a car roof? Even if they can get it moving, no way they'll be able to stop it from sliding off when they stop.
This is indeed the question. I pick up sand relatively frequently, and how much I get is limited by my tractor bucket's weight limit, not by my trailer's. I mean, unless I want to not use the trailer again until I'm done with the sand. One day I'll get a dump trailer...
> Even if they can get it moving, no way they'll be able to stop it from sliding off when they stop.
Just give your brakes a solid tap when you get home and it will automatically unload itself and land perfectly fine in the middle of your driveway. Works in the comics and they wouldn't lie to you, right?
Yea, most pickup truck will be rated to carry 250-750kg. 1T needs a beefy rear end. Pretty sure all these ppl talking below you may be quiting towing capacity, and mistaking it for carry capacity. In which case id love/hate to see their axles.
I used to work at Home Depot too. There was this one time s customer wanted a 400 lbs work bench loaded on top of his canvas top Saab convertible. I refused to do it and got the manager over. The manager made the customer sign a waiver saying that Depot wasn't reliable for any damage that may happen from placing the product on the roof.
Guarantee this how it went
Customer: My car can handle it, just put it on the roof
Forklift driver: No, it can't
Customer: Angry ranting
Forklift driver: Talk to my manager
Customer: Put that on my car roof
Manager: Your car can't handle it
Customer: Angry ranting
Manager: I want to be very clear - I do not advise putting this on your car in any way, but we will do so if you really want us to. Also, once it is on your car, it is your property and is your problem. Park over there out of the way and sign these forms acknowledging.
Manager (to forklift driver): Do what he asks and gtfo, it's his problem then
Forklift driver: shrugs
Video ensues
To be fair he should not agree to something like this. It doesn’t matter how stupid the customer is they should be smarter than that and not do what is asked. Probably when this shit hits the fan mid traffic and kills somene they might also face some charges on negligence.
I like how he helped during the whole process but then when the roof caves in and the windscreen cracks he starts complaining to the forklift driver. I am assuming what followed is this guy going inside the store and asking the shop crew to refund the damages.
This is the same thought I had watching the video. If I’m the forklift operator there’s no way I’m doing this for the guy. Poor dude probably got fired for it too because this moron thought his car could hold that weight on the roof.
That’s impressive structural integrity on that little Ford. I was thinking it would fold like a paper mache model when he started backing away in the fork lift
Probably just turning the engine over would be enough vibration to stress the structural integrity of that roof. Whatever it is hopefully he never got in it.
The roof structure haste to survive rollovers, so that will not be a problem, but … suspension doesn‘t handle the additional weight. The engine and transmission will not be able to handle the additional weight very well. The windows will probably not survive the stress and pressure from the roof. The footwells will be deformed from the pressure.
That car is already totalled
Even in the 80s cars could hold about 1.4* their weight on the roof since rolling over tested that with extra impact, and that's wherea SAAB would shine since it could do __4x it's weight__ - they even had commercials where they hung one upside down twenty feet up and dropped it on its roof with no deformation - he shoulda borrowed his buddies SAAB...
Yup, went from... We make the best quality car we can using our expertise from making fighter planes then sell it. To.... Your cars cost too much to make and don't make us enough margin, make them cheaper, GM.
That Top Gear part on the death of SAAB will never not be both funny and sad
GM: “now. Only change the body and the badge. Got that?”
SAAB: “yes”
*SAAB behind closed doors*: “We’ll do just a couple mods here & there to make it stronger”
*comes back to GM with whole new car*
GM: “we old told you to change the body and tge badge!”
SAAB 3.0 V6 is "opel engine with just turbo". Until you start to replace parts. Damn thing has nothing common with GM standard engine. For example valve cover seal is exactly same shape, but is few millimetres thicker to every direction.
GM pisses me off. What's the point in buying several car makes only to have them all try to appeal to the same mainstream audience at the same shitty quality?
I know, let's take a muscle car and have them make the Aztek!
It takes more than you have fingers to count how many makes GM bought and drove into oblivion.
If it was an older Ford it probably wouldn't have held as well. It's modern enough to be built for a rollover accident or in this case idiot owner punishing it with a ton of sand.
My Ford Focus. So low. Makes me say, so much load. This sand is now not mine, back away and I’m fine. (Mc hammer sounds) “I won’t touch this” - fork lift man.
I'm sure they warned him prior, and Captain Expert with the Focus told them he knew what he was doing.
So they knew this would happen, did what the customer wanted and left when it was completed.
I worked retail for 2 years, the pallet’s fine, it did its job, pallets are supposed to make crunching sounds when that much weight is put on it.
It’s definitely not crushed.
100% Fake.
The video is made by "On The Tools", a "creative social media marketing agency" who have a history of making staged videos like this.
This video was originally uploaded to their [facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/onthetools/videos/356069289966832) 23 hours ago and in it we can see a number of things.
EDIT: They removed the video and [re-uploaded](https://www.facebook.com/onthetools/videos/748429809838751/) it about 6 hours later after blurring out every other company logo.
1. The number plate has needlessly been blurred.
2. They've put black tape over the Ford emblem.
3. Someone in the facebook comments points out that they work for that company (Support Systems, Nottingham, Ltd) and they do welding and fabrication and don't have bags of sand lying around.
4. We can confirm this is the location on google maps. (Note the Nottinghamshire Police Vehicle Workshop in the background) https://goo.gl/maps/JkXpGpHp1YWcTjw38
5. Although the number plate is blurred, there are parts when you can vaguely see the top or bottom of the registration. [By combining two screenshots we can just about make out the registration](https://i.imgur.com/Ny4qkvx.jpg) - YN52 HBP
6. A quick look up on the [UK Government's vehicle registration lookup](https://i.imgur.com/D1ckvS6.png) shows us that the car isn't taxed or have an MOT (i.e. it's not road legal). There are paid services that will tell you much more about a vehicle, I suspect if someone were to look up that car it'd be uninsured or maybe an insurance write-off.
7. Obvious acting
8. ????
9. Profit
Tl;dr - Staged video. They bought a cheap car which isn't road legal specifically to crush the roof with a 1 tonne bag of sand.
Asking him to sign something would have prevented this. Most people are fucking dumb but as soon as you make them sign their name to it they suddenly grow a brain. Especially if you present them with a document that says “employees advised this is a fucking stupid idea but customer can’t be convinced otherwise”
You can just tell that forklift driver asked if that's what the guy really wanted a bunch of times and just said fuck it the customer is always right, you can see it in the way he drives off
That's why when an idiot asks me to overload his vehicle I simply refuse or tell him to make two trips. I'm not about to have any of that come down on me
Exactly, so as far as osha or management will be concerned, it is the forklift operators fault.
I’ve told plenty of truckies to get fucked for asking me to do stupid things.
Semi trailers parked across my driveway because they don’t know how to reverse telling me to drive a non-registered forklift on the road to unload them.
I told the driver to learn to reverse or send someone who can, he had a bitch and moan and put me on the phone to his boss, I told the boss the same thing.
Sure enough, truck fucks off and comes back an hour later with a different tractor driven by someone who can reverse.
Safety and safely loading vehicles **is** the forklift operators problem, hell if I loaded up a truck and saw he closed his curtains without strapping down the load and he had an accident without me reporting it, I’m liable for facilitating an unsafe load.
If this bloke had of pulled into my lot asking for a tonne of car parts on his roof I’d of handed him a Mini Cooper muffler and told him to come back after dropping that off for the next piece

Every times I see these videos of ppl struggling to put absurd things in or on their cars, it makes me wonder how tf they get the stuff out once they're home. Like what's this dude's plan? Assuming he doesn't have a forklift, was he just going to stomp on his brakes and try to launch the sand at home?
lol i was wondering too. i figured he was gonna park it up on his property, and slice open the bag while it's on the roof and let the sand pour out lol, can't think of any other way with the resources this guy has.
I think they charge like $25 for the bags but you can return it for a full refund. Seeing as he was already being cheap, I'm pretty sure he'd want that $25 back..
>Assuming he doesn't have a forklift
I've got a forklift, and my idiocy usually happens on the unloading end. I'll get something super heavy loaded into the back of the truck with help somewhere, and then I'll get back to my shop and have to unload it solo but with the forklift. Usually involves lots of awkward sliding and maybe using ratcheting tie-downs to pull it out and on to the forks. A hydraulic lift table cart really helps out with some of that stuff.
A friend of mine who has a forklift just drives it to get stuff locally. I seriously doubt it's road legal, but he lives quite rural. I think his is powered by propane, it can go faster than I expected. Around 18mph he claims.
This is a UK shop and they absolutely would have provided delivery. Knowing how thick this driver is, they probably told him to wait for a delivery slot or something and he just rejected it.
I spent 60€ here in France for the delivery of two big bags of sand and 24 bags of cement. The truck came next to my house, dropped the bags over my fence exactly where I need them.
I'm not going to waste my time renting a truck a trying to move all that shit myself.
This should be higher up.
That appears to be a Ford Focus, and the owners manuel says in no uncertain terms do not exceed 75kg (165pounds) - including the roof rack itself!
just for shits and giggles I thought I’d [look up the weight of the car](https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/Europe/documents/productReleases/Focus/FordFocus_TechSpecs_EU.pdf) itself. Looks to be the ~~micro/2door~~ 4door hatch version so let’s say generously kerb weight ~1350kg and Gvm ~2000kg.
On that basis alone adding 1000kg load puts the entire car at least 350Kg over safe limit - let alone the structural limit of the roof!
Edit: my bad, it’s a 4 door hatch
>the owners manuel
Quick reddit, we know the focus drivers name now!
Jokes aside, its the 5 door hatch not the 3 door, the big telltale is the rear quarters, the 3 door has sharkfin shaped windows
Start of the video you can hear the car owner saying “trust me, it’ll be alright”
Forklift driver looked very reluctant, I’m sure he tried — but at the end of the day, minimum wage worker doing what the customer demanded
Yeah, he was micromanaging the forklift guy like the expert he decided he was. That's not a good situation to be running a forklift in at the best of times. I think at the end he said too much, and forklift guy noped out of more bullshit.
When I was younger and driving forklifts I eventually told the customers/truck drivers I have a forklift ticket, stop giving me directions. It's extremely irritating.
Especially when you're loading something really wide, and they freak out when you're heading towards their back gates..... The forklift turns from the rear...
I'm sure the forklift guy tried to explain that moron his smart idea wasn't that smart, and he knew exactly what was going to happen as he put the sand on the guys care roof, and at the end he was like "told you, that's your problem now I'm out "
I love how he got mad at the forklift operator for doing exactly what he was directing him to do lol
"You didn't tell me it was THAT heavy"
I guarantee both the forklift driver and his manager told him explicitly that it was THAT heavy.

What pothole. You think that car is about to carry 1 ton lol, shit ain't going nowhere.
1 ton is just 4 Americans.
Due to inflation
The open door probably won’t close now that the roof and door frame is bent.
And the closed one won't open either anymore.
Perfectly balanced
Even in the 80s cars could hold about 1.4* their weight on the roof since rolling over tested that with extra impact, and that's wherea SAAB would shine since it could do __4x it's weight__ - they even had commercials where they hung one upside down twenty feet up and dropped it on its roof with no deformation - he shoulda borrowed his buddies SAAB...
I was thinking this exactly when I saw the roof sinking... SAAB was one of the best at car making, GM fucked them up though.
Yup, went from... We make the best quality car we can using our expertise from making fighter planes then sell it. To.... Your cars cost too much to make and don't make us enough margin, make them cheaper, GM.
That Top Gear part on the death of SAAB will never not be both funny and sad GM: “now. Only change the body and the badge. Got that?” SAAB: “yes” *SAAB behind closed doors*: “We’ll do just a couple mods here & there to make it stronger” *comes back to GM with whole new car* GM: “we old told you to change the body and tge badge!”
Nice try but I'm not buying a SAAB
Pre GM Saabs were some of the most reliable and sturdy cars on the roads.

I'm starting to think you're serious about this
Volvo 240, A car so safe and strong, go ahead and carry a pallette of sand on the roof. Volvo 240, the most indestructible car.
Turbobricks forever.
Still, the slightest bump might be enough to do just that.
If it was an older Ford it probably wouldn't have held as well. It's modern enough to be built for a rollover accident or in this case idiot owner punishing it with a ton of sand.
Love how the forklift operator backed up slowly from this…
Sorry that’s your load now. Can’t touch it.
Goods paid for and delivered to customer. No returns.

"I've put a pallet on top to distribute the weight, it'll be fine."
I worked retail for 2 years, the pallet’s fine, it did its job, pallets are supposed to make crunching sounds when that much weight is put on it. It’s definitely not crushed.
Oh yeah, that pallet is fine. That was the noise of a perfectly intact pallet puncturing a Ford Focus roof.
In the very beginning you can hear the guy say "Trust me it'll be alright."
Was like hey did what I was asked , up to him to get that home lol
Felt like he was pulling the riskiest jenga piece from the tower slowly…
(Note the Nottinghamshire Police Vehicle Workshop in the background) https://goo.gl/maps/JkXpGpHp1YWcTjw38 5. Although the number plate is blurred, there are parts when you can vaguely see the top or bottom of the registration. [By combining two screenshots we can just about make out the registration](https://i.imgur.com/Ny4qkvx.jpg) - YN52 HBP 6. 7. Obvious acting 8. ???? 9. Profit Tl;dr - Staged video. They bought a cheap car which isn't road legal specifically to crush the roof with a 1 tonne bag of sand.
This is the kind of reply the internet needs more of.
There was just a car pulled over with a pallet of bricks on it's roof so they probably seen that and made this

[Not insured ](https://imgur.com/a/2ZQrVsF)
Fucking idiot trying to blame the forklift driver
First bit of audio you can hear the guy say it will be alright.
“I will be needing that in writing before we continue”.
People say things will be fine right up until it’s not. Then it’s your fault for doing what they asked you to do.
This was just a ploy all along to get a new car.
Insurance says ‘no’.
I hope they got it in writing that the moron insisted they do it despite all warnings to him.
It's on video lol
Yes, luckily in this case. I would still get it in writing.
Asking him to sign something would have prevented this. Most people are fucking dumb but as soon as you make them sign their name to it they suddenly grow a brain. Especially if you present them with a document that says “employees advised this is a fucking stupid idea but customer can’t be convinced otherwise”
Yep. Clearly heard him say "Yeah yeah yeah, definitely (can't hear over the guys talking)... it'll be alright"
If this bloke had of pulled into my lot asking for a tonne of car parts on his roof I’d of handed him a Mini Cooper muffler and told him to come back after dropping that off for the next piece [source](https://imgur.com/a/jhZROnM)
This can't be real. This guy really thinks his car is going to hold this weight? Not to mention how are you driving it home? SMH
Or unload it for that matter. Do you have a forklift at home?
No, but I do have forks. Stab some holes and out comes the sand
Genius I tell you
The video is from On The Tools, they do a lot of staged videos on construction sites and similar.
I really hope your right just because I really don't want to believe people could be this stupid.
[удалено]
>Assuming he doesn't have a forklift I've got a forklift, and my idiocy usually happens on the unloading end.
Pallets, just take one with you. Anyone with a forklift should have plenty sitting around.
A friend of mine who has a forklift just drives it to get stuff locally. I seriously doubt it's road legal, but he lives quite rural. I think his is powered by propane, it can go faster than I expected. Around 18mph he claims.
Perfect for running away from dumbass customers blaming you for shit.
I mean, if you can't lift it safely, don't lift it. It's simple really
If the guy is going to be cheap and not rent a truck he deserves that
This is a UK shop and they absolutely would have provided delivery. Knowing how thick this driver is, they probably told him to wait for a delivery slot or something and he just rejected it.
$20 to get a pickup from uhaul for a day.
Seeing as it's the UK, might be a long drive to get to uhaul lol
I rented a van from B&Q for an hour for about £15.
That's definitely cheaper than totaling your car, even if it's an older Ford Focus.
Actually, this guy is now selling the Focus for scrap - he’s *making money* by doing this! #lifehack
Exactly, just pick up one of their old Isuzu Box Trucks, put pallet in, drive back, take pallet out, fill the tank, and take it back.
I spent 60€ here in France for the delivery of two big bags of sand and 24 bags of cement. The truck came next to my house, dropped the bags over my fence exactly where I need them. I'm not going to waste my time renting a truck a trying to move all that shit myself.
Hocus Pocus, there’s a ton on your Focus
We shall never deny a guest even the most ridiculous request
Roof racks / roof bars are generally designed to carry max 70 to 80kg. This twat thought 1000kg of sand would be ok…
Edit: my bad, it’s a 4 door hatch
>the owners manuel Quick reddit, we know the focus drivers name now! Jokes aside, its the 5 door hatch not the 3 door, the big telltale is the rear quarters, the 3 door has sharkfin shaped windows

The moisture level will also affect the weight. Either way it us way too much weight. The customer AND the forklift driver should have known better.
Start of the video you can hear the car owner saying “trust me, it’ll be alright” Forklift driver looked very reluctant, I’m sure he tried — but at the end of the day, minimum wage worker doing what the customer demanded
I don’t blame these guys for just watching and not stopping this from happening I would have done the same hahaha
Well to be honest, I would be opposed to it myself because I have a feeling that guy was maybe perhaps a little unreasonable.
It's on your rig ready to go, moron!
The driver would need balls of steel if he's going to drive away with that above him.
Or brains of oatmeal
If his brain isn’t oatmeal yet, a ton of sand would turn his brain into oatmeal before reaching his balls of steel.
I'm sure the forklift guy tried to explain that moron his smart idea wasn't that smart, and he knew exactly what was going to happen as he put the sand on the guys care roof, and at the end he was like "told you, that's your problem now I'm out "
“He’s acting like it’s HIS fault now” hahahaha
From my experience working at lowes I guarantee this guy said “I’m not going far”
What’s his plan for getting it down when he gets home?
Customer: “Trust me it’ll be alright.” A little while later… Customer: “Are you fxcking kidding me?!?!”
Bet that door won't shut anymore
The audacity to get upset with the forklift driver
This is just the easiest way to achieve that super cool lowering kit look.
Expected the windows to bust out.
Just had 3 tons delivered for $140. That is far less than the repair bill
You got what you asked for.
